Reviews for El Cobijo de Vejer
Review 1:Wonderful views, fabulous hosts, excellent breakfast. Refreshing, quirky, well cared for by the hosts, maintains its roots as an Spanish town house of some age.
Review 2:Lots of steps and hills in Vezer. Need map to find it and don't try to do so at night! The property is compact with even more steps so difficult for the frail or disabled. Small dark superior bedroom. Tight spiral staircase to a dining area and roof space tricky for me with a wonky knee. Prepare for cool nights in November. Shops shut on Sundays.
Review 3:Warm welcome, exceptionally helpful staff who even rose at 5am for our departure breakfast. The breakfasts were lovingly prepared with homemade fare. Street parking not too far away.
Review 4:Difficult to find and limited afternoon check-in times though we were able to finagle our way in without too much of a wait. Not much to see in town.
Review 5:Accomodating staff, great views from our window, good breakfast.
Review 6:Rain, and a bit of a walk from our car, as is necessary to stay within the old town.
Review 7:Great imaginative layout, comfortable and unique rooms. Ours had two balconies, one covered, with great views. Great location for walking around, nice feeling of being a part of the town. The staff goes out of their way to help--they were eager to mail a hat I left !
Review 8:We loved everything about our stay at El Cobijo De Vejer. What a beautiful, historic mountain top town and we were so glad we chose to stay two nights. We drove there and parked in the free public parking and walked up to the town and El Cobijo. The walk wasn't bad (you can take either steps or a ramp) and we are healthy 64 and 73 years of age. Our apartment was lovely and our view from our deck was amazing-we could see all the way to the Atlantic, as well as a great view of the oldest part of Vejer. Our proprietors were so friendly, spoke a little English and provided delicious breakfasts
Review 9:Very small and narrow room with big but hard beds, not easy to reach with a car and a lot of luggage carrying to reach the hotel
Review 10:Wonderful, small hotel with in a very Spanish stile, very nice and helpful owners, delicious breakfast with a lot of homemade specialities
Review 11:Just about everything. Merche and Jesus very helpful. Jesus even ran us to Barca Vejer for our bus to Malaga. View from our terrace wonderful. Fantastic breakfasts.
Review 12:Amazing balconies of the Tarifa room, for which we paid extra. Good value for the panoramic views.Owners really helpful. Nothing too much trouble. Bedroom quaint but fun. Super breakfast and free parking a few minutes walk away.
Review 13:The couple who ran the hotel were very accommodating even through broken English/ Spanish they were able to provide everything we needed to know. Homemade Breakfast was very nice. Great location to visit Vejer even with a buggy and small dogs, up and down the cobbled streets keep you fit! Beautiful place to stay for a few days.
Review 14:Getting there can be tricky but once we sorted it able to park close by and access the place without stairs!
Review 15:We were welcomed and nothing was too much trouble. Very kind hosts! Our view from our terrace was fabulous! We even ate in one night! The breakfasts were delicious and homemade... A great start to the day! The town is a delight !
Review 16:The bed was a little uncomfortable, the mattress needs to be a sprung one on the hard base.
Review 17:Friendly owner, good location, a charming room full of character and a fabulous terrace. Homemade additions at breakfast were also a nice idea
Review 18:This village and property are one of the most beautiful places where my wife and I have stayed. The owners are part of this top quality. Bob and Sandra Seeley, Flemington, NJ, USA
Review 19:It is very difficult to find the hotel and impossible to get to by car. You need to carry all luggages over many stairs. So be prepared. It is a hilly little town.
Review 20:the breakfast, very helpful personnel and the view from the room
Review 21:Nothing not to like
Review 22:Fabulous hosts who run this like the best sort of home away from home. The care of preparation of the breakfasts is a joy and the home made cakes to die for. Beautiful and simple hospitality - just perfect in the setting
Review 23:Traditional Spanish building only accessed by foot. Breakfast varied each day with local and home made produce. Hosts are delightful and very helpful.
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:Everything, lovely room, great breakfast, mostly homemade, open air communal space. Owners were lovely and very helpful, suggested were to go ,what was happening while we were there.
Review 26:Hosts were excellent and very accommodating. Breakfast was excellent everyday. Lovely courtyard setting for relaxing in. Good location. A short set of stairs away from lovely Tapas bars and cafe/restaurants.
Review 27:Vejer is like a white maze, it takes a while to get your bearings. As long as you come into the town by the Tourist Information/Taxi rank it should be easy to find the accommodation - unfortunately we didnt - but well worth finding. Lovely - thank you
Review 28:The welcome - beer and water to refresh weary travellers, the gorgeous rooms and superb breakfast.
Review 29:No bad experiences. If I have to name something it would only be the hest in the middle of thr day....but then the Spanish deal with that perfectly.
Review 30:Initially the steepness was challenging, but it is hilly in Vejer. Our hosts, Jesus snd Mercedes were delightful, happy and generous. We loved the location looking down the valley from our 2 private balconies. Breakfast each day was delicious and more than generous. Thoroughly loved our holiday there. The band and fireworks were a special treat. Thank you for making our holiday perfect Jesus and Mercedes.
Review 31:There was nothing that I found negative. However, visitors should be aware that not every room has air conditioning. Ours did not. When we visited in early May that was not really an issue but it might be in July or August.
Review 32:Great location, great breakfast and excellent staff. Quaint/unique facility.
Review 33:There is no vehicle access to the hotel so it is necessary carry or trundle luggage a hundred metres or so. This did not matter to us.
Review 34:A period village building high in Vejer. Beautiful courtyard garden. Quirky rooms as a result of the architecture but all the more charming for that. The proprietors were delightful and the breafasts, mostly home cooked, were extremely good. The village is lovely and within easy driving distance of Cadiz and Tarifa for whale and dolphin watching.
Review 35:Character property tucked away up windy cobbled street felt like experiencing authentic Andalusia. Excellent hospitality. Wow what a breakfast. Lovely courtyard
Review 36:Hard to share a full size bed after being used to a queen... so I used the upper bunk - could use an upgraded mattress. But I would stay there again even so. The town was delightful and the views were so extraordinary!
Review 37:The balconies overlooking the town. Views were stunning! Character of the hotel was very charming. Fernando was extremely nice and very helpful.
Review 38:This is a very good hotel. The service was perfect, breakfast was hand made, nice/helpfull staf, at a perfect location and very nice/causy rooms. We were by car. in the neighburhood there were free parking spaces. A good recommendation!
Review 39:Very kind and helpfull hosts, excellent breakfast, and we had a cosy apartment with a magnificent view of the town and the sea. We will recommend El Cibijo any time.
Review 40:Vejer is a lovely place and this hotel fits nice in the whole area. the service personal was super friendly, every day a delishious breakfast, a very nice and clean appartment with an incredible view....i would love to go there as soon as possible back
Review 41:We had to park the car some distance away, taking our luggage up the steps and narrow streets. Not a good property for older people or those with young children.
Review 42:It quaintness and the wonderful views from the roof. The breakfasts were excellent and the proprietor very helpful.
Review 43:Because the weather was poor for part of our stay we were unable to use the outdoor terrace. This meant that it felt claustrophobic at times. Realise the weather is out of the host's control!!
Review 44:Charming hosts, excellent breakfasts, position hidden away in the old town
Review 45:This is a unique place, full of character and charm. Wonderful welcome, views of the rooftops of Vejer, and THE MOST amazing home made breakfasts! We would certainly stay again.
Review 46:Not a thing
Review 47:From the moment of arrival, you are drawn into the ambience of this well run little hotel. All rooms vary, I was in Tarifa with views over the village, the water and north Africa in the distance. Excellent breakfast! Wish I could have stayed another day.
Review 48:Bathroom was small and had to put all paper in a bin instead of down toilet. The spiral staircase to upstairs would not be suitable for children or people with restricted mobility.
Review 49:Lovely views from private terrace, super little kitchenette, good central location, charming decor, very friendly and helpful owners and delicious breakfast with different home made jams and pates every morning.
Review 50:The bed was way too small for two (felt like 1,2 meters)
Review 51:Best breakfast ever (!) and very friendly owners & staff, combined with great views from private terrace and an excellent location
Review 52:Thought the church clock chiming would interrupt sleep but chimes stop through the night. No problem
Review 53:Warm welcome by Mecedes. Delicious Artisan home made foods at breakfast. Beautifully artistically decorated apartment with breathtaking views from balcony. A gem find in a picturesque hilltop town. Definitely will return soon & recommend to all
Review 54:Quaint Spanish house with courtyard. Jesus the owner is very friendly and hospitable. The breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Most homemade. Definitely recommend.
Review 55:Nothing.
Review 56:We loved everything about this small hotel. It had a wonderful view and excellent breakfast. The hosts couldn't have been better! I hope to return here someday.
Review 57:Small beds
Review 58:Vejer is beautiful and an excellent base for visiting the gorgeous beaches of the costa la Luz. Cobija's staff were super helpful, breakfast delicious, and the charming rooms and terraces like no other.
Review 59:No washing machine in kitchen, but probably not enough space. You won't get your car anywhere near the front door - don't even try - unless your are coming by taxi.
Review 60:Great location for town, but be prepared for a few steps. Our room was upgraded (no charge) had a fabulous terrace with view over the town a coast. Owner was very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Breakfast was lovely, all local produce.
Review 61:The bed is enclosed on top so it's quite romantic but also a bit hot! Not a big thing though & terrace more than made up for it.
Review 62:Loved the terrace for the Tarifa room - so special! Great breakfast Lovely people
Review 63:- WIFI signal in rooms can be weak - Access to the property requires climbing some steps
Review 64:- Hospitality - Quiet location near old town - Relaxing internal patio - Spacious apartment - Cleanliness - Attention to detail - Very good breakfast selection
Review 65:The hotel does not provide parking. Some will find it inconvenient to park in the nearby lot and then have to carry their luggage up the hill to their room. However; if you call the hotel the caretaker will meet you at the bottom of the hill and guide you to the hotel.
Review 66:The El Cobijo is a small cozy hotel close to the center of Vejer. It offers a great location with an awesome view. The staff was also very welcoming. And like other reviewers have mentioned the breakfast was very good. They brought out an assortment of homemade and locally sourced items. The El Cobijo was a great place to stay for an intimate friendly experience that you won't find at larger properties.
Review 67:Nothing -- book here without hesitation.
Review 68:Jesus was extremely welcoming, attentive and kind, making us feel even better than home. The Tarifa suite has a beautiful terrace with a postcard view of Vejer and out to Africa. It was immaculate, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was abundant and made with a lot of care. The B&B has a lovely patio inside. Gracias Jesus!
Review 69:Nothing. Everything was excellent.

Review 71:Nothing. Everything was terrific.
Review 72:Loved the hotel, the amenities, the location (the view from the terrace was breathtaking). Jesus was so hospitable - helped to buy bus tickets, took us to the bus when we left, restaurant recommendations, provided a beautiful breakfast, allowed use of a computer, etc. It was definitely a highlight of our Spain trip. Vejer is a lovely place not to be missed. We will return.

Review 78:Outstanding room and rooftop, beautiful hosts and delicious complimentary breakfast! Could not recommend highly enough.
Review 79:Amazing breakfast and no distance to some great, quiet beaches. Jesus and merche are the perfect hosts - lovely people.
Review 80:Jésus and his wife are so welcoming and its such a small, pretty property. Typically Spanish and breakfasts were to die for! Spotlessly clean.
Review 81:Small Bed was not comfortable
Review 82:Location of accommodation and host was wonderful. Breakfast was outstanding and we felt at home.
Review 83:The owner could not do enough for us. Our daughter had a lovely room with two outdoor terrace areas overlooking the town - beautiful!
Review 84:Very Kind host, handmade delecious morning buffe, best location, nice view. I would like to recommend this hotel!

Review 87:Amazing breakfast
Review 88:Jesus is the absolute best, and the view is amazing (as is the price)
Review 89:Wish we'd picked a bigger room, but it was very comfortable all the same.
Review 90:The breakfast, the view, the kind and lovely couple running the place, the town, the nearby seaside. All amazing!
Review 91:There was nothing to complain about! If they want to add anything to their excellent little hotel, they might consider providing some beach towels and umbrellas for guests. Other than that, they were just terrific!
Review 92:What a wonderful place to stay! The young couple who runs the hotel/ B&B is just lovely! They provide hands-down the best breakfast in Spain and made great recommendations for beaches and restaurants. The little suite we had was just perfect- a nice bedroom with lovely view overlooking the town, a little sitting room with fridge and microwave, and a bathroom with shower. Beautiful lobby. A real Vejer kind of location, up a winding street. We phoned our host once w arrived in town and met him at the Tourist Office. He helped us find parkind and escorted us directly to the hotel. This was probably one of our favorite places we stayed in Spain on this trip.
Review 93:Some what difficult to find, but call Jesus, the manager, and he will escort you in.
Review 94:Lovely small B &B. Managers were very helpful and always ready to please. Breakfast was wonderful.
Review 95:Very, very nice owners - great place to stay. Will stay again if in the area! One thing people need to realize is that the house can only reach by foot - so try to park the car on the street near by!
Review 96:Some people may find the uphill route on foot to El Cobijo a bit tiring, but it's worth it for those views!
Review 97:Lovely, quirky rooms using every inch of space in renovated old house with spectacular views over this wonderful old town. Excellent breakfast using quality local produce. Friendly and very helpful host. Lots of free parking lower down in Vejer.
Review 98:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 99:We loved the hospitality of the owners. We loved their attention to detail. Everything about this place has the pure enjoyment of the guests in mind! We had an absolutely beautiful stay there and now we are dreaming of going back!
Review 100:We arrived by bus and were picked up and delivered as well as delivered back to the bus stop. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our place was clean and pleasant. The town is interesting.
Review 101:OK for us but less mobile (or large) people could find spiral staircase a problem. Parking is on main road so luggage has to be carried quite a distance - Jesus will collect this for you if you need him to.
Review 102:Jesus, the owner, is very friendly and efficient. Small hotel situated at top of town so very quiet position. We stayed in Xaieun suite on 2 levels with wonderful murals around bed area, incredible views from terrace. Well equipped kitchen area. Excellent breakfast with fresh fruit + juice, cold meats, cheese, various breads, pastries and homemade butter, pork spread & jams.
Review 103:We could have used more room in the bathroom but we were not put out at all. You do have to walk uphill to get to the place so if you are not fit you might find that difficult.
Review 104:I liked the quaintness of the place and the fact that it was right in the heart of Vejer. It was also very quiet and had a comfortable bed.The breakfast was lovely with homemade jams and salsas etc. It was very personable. It is not a 5 star hotel; it is a B and B run by a very nice couple.
Review 105:Just that you can not park outside the hotel, but have to walk a short distance and some steps:)
Review 106:A fantastic hotel, so clean, spacious, petoresk, hilltop view, silent, wonderful homemade breakfast. Everything good and the owner is only perfect!
