Reviews for Parador de Benavente

Review 1:The glass lampshade in the bathroom fell down and smashed, narrowly missing my head. This could have caused serious injury, luckily only one splinter of glass stuck in my foot. This incident was treated dismissively by staff. I wasn't offered an apology or an upgrade and had to insist on being moved to another room. The attitude of the person at reception was high-handed and arrogant.

Review 2:The breakfast was excellent and the woman in charge of the breakfast room was extremely helpful and pleasant.

Review 5:They had only one person on the Reception Desk who was at times overwhelmed by the number of guests.

Review 6:Beautiful building and grounds. Large rooms. An easy walk into town.

Review 7:Even though the hotel was lovely we didn't like Benavente it was very shabby and was virtually impossible to find a decent restaurant, but for a one night stop over the hotel was perfect.

Review 8:Lovely big rooms, hotels position, nice balcony with good view. Pleasant and helpful receptionist, gardens very pretty. Wifi good, enjoyed our one nights stay.

Review 9:The bathroom was a bit jaded.

Review 10:The staff were friendly and courteous. Not a lot of the original building remains but what does is impressive. A short walk into the old town brings you to a good shopping centre with bars and restaurants. This is our first Parador and we were a little disappointed but who knows next time.

Review 11:Breakfast could be improved.

Review 12:Restaurant service was very good. Welcome drinks were a nice detail. The staff at the reception was welcome and helpful.

Review 13:The town of Benavente has little to offer in the way of eateries except for the Parador (which was very good).

Review 14:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good regional cuisine, well cooked and pleasingly presented.

Review 15:Can be difficult to find as some satnavs do not work very well for the Parador. Better to print the detailed directions in advance!

Review 16:Had a room with balcony which was great for watching the sunset and listening to the birdsong. Really enjoyed the experience. Bar great and the waitress amiable and helpful. Reception staff good with information.

Review 17:Leaving!

Review 18:The balcony overlooking the pool and terrace and the medieval tower. Inside the tower was the most amazing bar, and the wine was great and reasonable. Our room was spacious, and we were only a block into the cute little town.

Review 19:We stopped here for one night on our way to San Sebastián. It was just what we wanted. The staff were very efficient and helpful. The dinner was fantastic and breakfast very nice. Would stay here again. Also quiet.

Review 20:There was only a small section on 1 brochure on the hotel & tourist information that had english translation.

Review 21:Historically beautiful & surrounds interesting.

Review 22:Convenient stop on the way to Portugal. Comfortable room, lovely views across the surrounding countryside.

Review 23:I couldn't get the air conditioning to work

Review 24:Ideal location for me. Very clean and comfortable. Good service.

Review 25:the air conditioning was not effective and we did not get requested ground floor accommodation

Review 26:a lovely environment to stay in

Review 27:great location and staff

Review 28:A cama poderia oferecer mais conforto.

Review 29:A vista da varanda, para um amplo vale verde.

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:Good bathroom

Review 32:we did not have a double and were in single beds.

Review 33:Good comfortable rooms with lots of space.

Review 34:Nothing to dislike

Review 35:Location and ambience

Review 36:A bit expensive.

Review 37:Very good hotel easy walk in to village ,good pool area

Review 38:snobbish staff, half the pool closed because tiles missing on the surround, breakfast expensive. Wifi not working properly when we were there.

Review 39:great location, just a short walk into the town, we booked early and got a great deal.

Review 40:Our dinners were rather disappointing, we opted for the traditional Spanish choices and found the food very bland, however other guests chose the lamb and said it was excellent. The lady who checked us out was surly but I she was not the main front desk person.

Review 41:The location is fantastic with great views down into the valley. The hotel itself is lovely and the rooms spacious and sufficiently well appointed. We were lucky to visit in June when the rose garden outside was in full bloom - delightful. Only a short walk into town.

Review 42:Logrono was a bit dead to be honest only managed to find one decent bar for a drink in the centre - had to go back to the Parador for an evening meal but, glad we did.

Review 43:Stunning location.... beautiful ambiance, short walk into the town. Really nice place to stay. Had a great evening meal in the restaurant. Kind and attentive mature staff - can't go wrong here.

Review 44:It was a boiling hot day but the swimming pool wasn't in use. We booked this hotel because the online brochure said it had a pool.

Review 45:The building, rooms, bar and location.

Review 46:poolo closed ( arrived May 1st) as not yet warm enough. Would have loved a swim as would several others! Poorly signed as you enterr town, thank god for sat nav

Review 47:Lovely hotel ...great room and bar/dining room. Food good, service bit "Spanish"!

Review 48:Wifi was not 100 percent reliable and most expensive meal of our trip here in the restaurant. It was very good but not value for money

Review 49:The staff went the extra mile for us and the location - castle- was wonderful

Review 50:Good stopover when traveling from Galicia to Madrid. Parador including medieval tower, large rooms, beautiful view, 5 minute walk away from historic Benavente

Review 51:Breakfast far too expensive at nearly 17 euros. Would not have been able to do it justice after a large meal the night before. Difficult to find, need clearer directions.

Review 52:Lovely room, staff very friendly. Had a very nice meal in the restaurant.Aathough a beautiful dining room lacked atmosphere as only 1 other couple eating tin there.

Review 53:Reception staff was somewhat cool.

Review 54:Enjoyed the value for the money spent (got a great rate through booking.com); lovely rooms, spacious, great views, lots of amenities, gardens very pretty for strolling. Proximity to town for meals, sights was good, nice walkway into the old town.

Review 55:A rather disappointing and expensive evening meal in their restaurant

Review 56:the comfort and history of building. View from balcony was good and our room spacious and well appointed

Review 57:The parador needed to be redecorated - a bit disappointing. We were expecting luxury, pristine decor, etc. Nice but no nicer than your average hotel.

Review 58:Personnel très sympathique.

Review 59:Expensive restaurant so ate in the town which was a short walk from the hotel.

Review 60:Really liked having a balcony off the bedroom which had lovely view and nice comfortable seating and also the outside swimming pool.

Review 61:Service in the bar was very slow and we were unable to get a snack in the afternoon when we arrived. The evening restaurant menu really needs updating. No vegetables served with the main courses. Very expensive for what it delivered and very slow service.

Review 62:The pool was a welcome relief after travelling all day and there was a nice area to sunbathe. Room clean and lovely balcony overlooking the pool.

Review 63:This Parador seems to have seen better days, especially the bathroom. Needs updating.

Review 64:The lovely balcony overlooking the pool area was nice, the promenade into town right outside the parador was really wonderful for an afternoon walk, take a seat at the cafe by the park and watch the sun set. Beutiful.

Review 65:Carpets were dangerous because worn and uneven. Furniture old (not antique) like from a jumble sale. Staff unhelpful. Definitely not worth the money for a Parador

Review 66:The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. They food in the restaurant was very nice. Staff friendly and helpful. More could of been made of the building itself eg information in English and other languages, so we could have gained a greater appreciation of the history and signifance of the building

Review 67:Dinner menu was uninspiring and over-priced. Despite being an oldbuilding, some noise could be heard from adjacent rooms, particularlyhigh heels click-clacking on tiled floors.

Review 68:Location was convenient - 200 Km (around 2 hours) from Gijon ferry to StNazaire. Room was spacious and quiet at this time of year (earlyDecember). Building was warm despite freezing outside temperature. Onlya short walk through gardens into town.

Review 69:The solid walls still do not stop the sound of voices from adjacent rooms but it is muffled enough to be spared the context of the conversation.

Review 70:Very comfortably furnished with a lot of atmosphere and brilliantly situated for a stopover from/to Santander.

Review 71:The wifi did not work in the room. Everything was a bit oldfashion andvery used. The pool was only open in the afternoon. The area and townare nothing special and the view from the hotel in many directions arefarmland and old factories. The hotel might benefit from somerefunishing and updated design

Review 72:A nice balcony. Good breakfast

Review 73:Good standard as per most Paradors. Location was nothing exciting but it was chosen as a stop in between. Swimming pool was not open even when the weather was nice and worm on 23rd. June 2012.

Review 74:While the location of the hotel provides a good base for touring thearea the town itself is very disappointing.

Review 75:A beautful hotel with lots of character. Spacious, clean, comfortableroom with lovely spacious balcony.

Review 76:Disappointing evening meal, not up to usual Parador standards. The immediate surrounds, a garden square are attractive, but on our visit there was a "do" on nearby and so there was a lot of litter which spoiled the outlook, but not any fault of the Parador.

Review 77:Typical old-style Parador in castle on top of a hill on the outskirts of the town. Rooms clean and comfortable with good view, not toward the town ! For us it was a stopover visit and as such it was fine, a bit more character than ordinary hotels.

Review 78:Our room was large and comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic. It waseasy to walk into the town. A convenient stop over from Santander on ourway to PortugAl.

Review 79:The staff were formal and polite but not much more..we really were frustrated that when we went for a drink in the bar at 7 pm, we could not get tapas or anything besides cake/and we did get some crisps and nuts but were not able to have anything until 8:30. This became too late for us, and we were frustrated that as residents we could not get some savoury food before 8:30. The town itself had very little to offer.

Review 80:we really liked the facilities, the comfort and the position. The breakfast was exceptional

Review 81:Disappointed that the pool was not open (and very dirty)

Review 82:Perfect location with a very friendly and professional staff

Review 83:Good location with helpfull staff.

Review 84:Food & drink expensive

Review 85:Location

Review 86:nothing

Review 87:room, cleanliness

Review 88:Food was average. Wifi inconsistent. Hotel hard to find.

Review 89:Service was tremendous. Hotel was beautiful. Room was perfect

Review 90:The staff were outstanding, particularly Anabell and other front desk staff.

Review 91:It would have been nice to have breakfast included in the price.

Review 92:Beautiful building, but unfortunately the town was not spectacular!

Review 93:Just a minor point re bathroom which adequate and clean, but update should be considered.

Review 94:Excellent location, yet close to town centre.

Review 95:Room, location , staff, food

Review 96:State run.

Review 97:You can still feel the spirit of chivalry at this hotel; food for the soul. Absolutely beautiful decor and ambiance.

Review 98:Pleasant and friendly staff and historic architecture of hotel.

Review 99:The lack of tea making facilities in the room.

Review 100:Friendly staff, luxurious bed, swimming pool & gardens, castle

Review 101:food

Review 102:location and facilities

Review 103:Restaurant menu is too limited with few healthy or light options such as salads, grilled fish etc.

Review 104:we got thee so late too tired to enjoy it properly

Review 105:its a castle!!

Review 106:Electricity devices, internet access

Review 107:Calm

Review 108:Unfortunately not disabled/wheelchair friendly.No room tea/coffee facilities.

Review 109:The uniqueness of staying in a castle.

Review 110:Tea /Coffee making facilities in room and iron would have been convenient

Review 111:Nice room and helpful staff. Very good breakfast.

Review 112:Location, history, the castle it was built on, nice restaurant
