Reviews for Hotel Altamar

Review 1:Puerto Rico and the immediately surrounding area is a "tourist ghetto". Not all tourists are particularly well-behaved. This hotel, being somewhat upscale for the area, is a little oasis, though.

Review 2:Set on a perfectly southern slope, with a private terrace just at the entry, this place is perfect for basking in the winter sun. Unusually good swimming pools which allow...swimming.

Review 3:Apartment could do with a little TLC in the bathrooms. A kettle in the kitchen would have been good. Quality of towels let it down.

Review 4:It was an excellent location & value for money. The apartments were spacious and clean. Excellent terrace. Helpful & friendly staff. Great to have on site small supermarket.

Review 5:Thought aircon would come with the room rather than pay for it as gran canaria is extremely hot

Review 6:I liked pretty much everything about my stay in altamar, lovely place would happily stay there again.

Review 7:we were not all inclusive and had paid for breakfast every morning but one waiter was overly rude to myself and my partner one morning forcing us outta line to pay up front before we had even got a plate of food, every other waiter just dropped the bill when we were finished our meal

Review 8:The view was excellent and staff very friendly

Review 9:No bad experience

Review 10:The room was lovely and the facilities were excellent

Review 11:the new suites are really excellent

Review 12:Loved everything :-)

Review 13:huge balconies lots to do during the day thankd to the entertainment team who were fantastic

Review 14:The constant sound of drilling with work been done on the complex. Sharing the lift with the workmen carrying dusty equipment. Not able to have cot bed in bedroom for our granddaughter. More attention and more regular cleaning of the apartments required. Have stayed in Puerto Rico several times in the past first time in this complex. Would not have booked it if I had known about the on going work.

Review 15:Loved the views . Staff were very friendly to our grand daughter. Kids club was great and some of the nightly entertainment was enjoyable. Pools were great and lots of sun loungers. We were not staying all inclusive had some meals in the complex which were very good and offered a good variety.

Review 16:Anything extra was at a cost. ie. iron / television / safe box / pages were €2 per sheet who his ridiculus etc.... Not inclusive as per every other hotel, but not disclosed anywhere on there sites

Review 17:The place was spotless. Could have a bit more for young couples ie. not bingo. But otherwise very good.

Review 18:Very relaxing and excellent all round hotel. English tele at a cost of€15 for the week includes all sky sports and bbc & itv programmes.Couldn´t fault the place or location. Free bus to the beach and PuertoRico every hour.

Review 19:Charge of 2 Euros per page of any printout is extortionate

Review 20:Staff v friendly and helpful generally. Good views and a decent amount of space in the rooms / balony areas.

Review 21:As with most of Puerto Rico, this hotel is situated on the side of a steep hill, which makes for the beautiful views. There are two lifts to transport guests up and down but this requires a little patience. It is however preferable than the very steep steps. The beds are comfy but the sofa bed mattresses are quite hard. Ok for children but I struggled to sleep on them.

Review 22:Excellent value for money with fabulous sea views. Two great sized pools with plenty of sun loungers and parasols. There is entertainment on every eve but we enjoyed wandering along the beach and sitting on the balcony. Free Wifi in reception. S/C incl. microwave, hob & fridge but upgrades available (kettle, iron, lounger mattresses etc). Some newly refurbished rooms available for upgrade too that look lovely. Room had a balcony with patio table, chairs, loungers and parasol. Free courtesy bus, every hour, down the hill to Puerto Rico and €3.50 for a taxi down to beautiful Amadores beach, restaurants and bars. Supermarket in the hotel is well stocked and is good value for money.

Review 23:Residents ignoring a sign which clearly indicated the need to wear a top when using the restaurant areas during the day - and hotel staff just accepting this "breach" of a house rule

Review 24:All staff were courteous and friendly. Reception staff were particularly helpful in printing boarding passes for Ryan Air. Very impressed with protocols of restaurant staff when serving wine at the table. Free transport to beach and town centre was superb. An excellent hotel which we would definitely use again.

Review 25:Nothing really, just maybe it should be mentioned there is many steps in the hotel. It's split over 8 levels on the side of a mountain. There is a lift but more often than not, full. On the other hand, it was some welcomed light exercise after over indulgence.

Review 26:It's a nice, quiet area. Close to the Europa shopping centre, with many restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. Taxis down to the main town of Puerto Rico are only €3.50, where you will find even more shops and cafes, you'll need it to come back up. Was a good choice of foods in the hotel buffet. Nice pool area, 1.90m-1.55m. plenty of beds. Very good entertainment in the evenings and it doesn't go on too late, so you can go down town for more or relax in your apartment. Highly recommend this apartments/hotel to anyone.

Review 27:the entertainment at the hotel was very very loud and went on to midnight every night .then by the time all the drunk holidaymakers had left it was 2am in the morning!.we were glad to get home for some sleep.

Review 28:everything

Review 29:the hill down to the port

Review 30:everything about the Altamar- cleanliness was tops and the lady was lovely, the food, the staff, the entertainment all brilliant

Review 31:Having to rent a kettle for our studio apartment. Free Wifi only in lobby area.

Review 32:Hotel situated close enough to everything and yet in a nice quiet area. Walking distance from Amadores beach which is one of the nicest on the island. Europa shopping centre only 2 mins away and the main shopping centre in Puerto Rico only cost €3-4 in taxi which are waiting just outside the hotel.

Review 33:Staff were extremely friendly and helpful; apartment was spotlessly clean, a very good size and with stunning views of the sea and coast; the hotel was ideally situated within a stroll of Amadores - the best beach in the area...

Review 34:We stayed one week in Aparthotel Altamar. The hotel/appartment is clean, very well equiped and space is great enough even for 4 people. The food has a good variety. Staff and facilities are perfect. Although located on top of hill in Puerto Rico, taxis and bus is very close and convenient. Even walking down the stairs (700!) to the beach of Puerto Rico is easy. Shopping area is close to the Aparthotel also.

Review 35:The cocktails were pre-made, not fresh!! Also area very quiet- but great for beach and sun worshippers on the lookout for a budget sun holiday!

Review 36:The beach in amadores is fabulous- but a very steep downhill walk from the hotel. The buffet was excellent value and had plenty of choice for next to nothing. There are 2 big pools and lots of loungers, and plenty of activity in the area.

Review 37:It was too much of a maze and the elevator was very frustrating, the buffet wasnt great either

Review 38:Liked the hotel, beautiful views, lovely balcony and facilities were good, would definately stay again

Review 39:with having a good holiday comes the odd late night and morning room service came to early at 9 am food could have been hotter, hot food should not be served below 63f

Review 40:clean and tidy , staff were very friendly. night entertainment was fairly good . spectacular views and all rooms had balconies

Review 41:no umbrella on balcony and it is essential as the temperature was so high. food was very tasteless.most unappetising

Review 42:fans in rooms were effective unlimited hot water

Review 43:TV was exceedingly annoying and you had to pay weekly for a service which wasn't that great as signal quality was poor. We only used it first thing as were early risers & when we stayed in of an evening and ate in the apartment.

Review 44:The apartment was basic but clean. Much nicer than next door Blue Star which we stayed in last minute booking last year. We had took up the sea view apartment which was worth it as they are at the top of the blocks. We stayed in 154 which was near the top on B block the cheaper apartments will be below the restaurant/pool level is how I understood it. The view with sea view was literally that on cliff looking out over the sea. The pools were clean their were two. The A block pool seemed quieter as everyone seemed to be wanting to stay right next to the restaurant/bar area....not our cup of tea. Ideal with children or if your disabled as lifts in both block and everything seemed accessible to me easily. We had a deal that was on special so we got sea view and breakfast for two people for just 20 more. Well worth it. The reception has wifi and downloaded Viber on to our phones before we left so could contact home for free from there. It has free shuttle bus all day to Amadores Beach and Puerto Rico center. Small shop reasonably priced. Spa treatments by Pool A. Breakfast had wide selection Spanish omelette, boils eggs hard or soft, scrambled or fried eggs on alternate days, sausage, bacon, churros, beans, lots of choice of bread & rolls, croissants, various spreads, yogurts, fruits, cereals, dried fruits, cakes & biscuits, juices & coffees. We paid for one night of the evening buffet which u would have off menu just to see and it wasnt bad but we prefer to eat out...locally or jump in car and for 6euros the local sardines & salad was lovelly. Anyone moaning I found really annoying, maybe they should have paid 5 star prices for what ever they expected I for one was pleasantly surprised. Our apartment also had ceiling fans which were a godsend in 35 heat. All in all really happy and if I go back will book to stay again.

Review 45:The lift. My young daughter got stuck in it on her own for 10 minsand nobody came to help her. Also maintenance was carried out on thelift which meant people with buggies or disabled people could notleave the altamar.

Review 46:Love the entertainment and the cleanliness of Altamar. Also the locationis great for shopping & eating out.

Review 47:- Inconsistency in the standards of evening entertainment - Lack of stair rails in certain places

Review 48:- Food - Swimming Pools - Space, both in Apartment and overall within the hotel

Review 49:Too far from main stream puerto RICO, too many stairs and the lifts are a nightmare during busy periods. Food was not good at all,

Review 50:Nice comfy apartments, good pools and evening entertainment.

Review 51:Very clean and very friendly staff pools were very big and clean cant complain about this lovely hotel at all am looking to book it again next year me and my kids r looking forward to going bk

Review 52:I paid for Wifi, but it stopped working after 2 days. Receptionist gavemy money back admitting there were a problem, but no one fixed it and Ihad to connect from the free wifi in the hall. But from the 0 floor tothe 6th floor (which was the reception located) I had to take theslowest elevator I've ever seen. It stopped working after 5 days. Frommy room to my car it took about 15 minutes. No free air conditioning inthe rooms.

Review 53:Wonderful position near to Amadores Beach and Puerto Rico, free parkingaround, rooms are good and cute

Review 54:If you are driving, it's quite tricky to find Altamar even if you havea map. The entrance to the hotel is not even marked from the street. The hotel caters mostly to British package tours such as Thomas Cook,so if you are booking independently you might get left behind. Thebeaches Amadores and Puerto Rico close by are both small with importedsand and packed with burned tourists. For better beaches go to theDunes or Agaete

Review 55:Located high up on the hillside overlooking the ocean, the views fromthe terrace out front are dramatic. The apartment was fully equiped witha kitchen. Nightly entertainment at 22:00 features various local actssuch as jugglers.

Review 56:No Airco!! And paying Airco 50 euro -> 1 week (and believe me when its35 degrees you gonna need it! Paying tv 15 euro -> 1 week, payingparasol 14 euro -> 1 week), old furniture, waiting too long for thelift, only entertainment for Englisch people! Not nice for foreigners.

Review 57:Good service, good cleaning, nice pool and great see vieuw

Review 58:The walk up from the apartment to the reception area on the top floorand down to the pool which is located in the middle of the complex wasvery tiring, even for us! The fact that there was only one elevatormeant that there was a long wait for it, making it quicker to endure thehardship of the stairs. The pool area was full everyday so you had to besure to get up early to ensure your sunbed for the day. The staff at therestaurant weren't overly nice or welcoming, that being said we neverate there again after our first experience as we resorted to the verywelcoming and accommodating service of the nearby restaurants in theEuropa Center and in Peurto Rico itself.

Review 59:The reception staff were very friendly and were willing to answer andhelp you with any questions you may have. The shop located in thecomplex was extremely handy as it has all necessary requirements, whichsaved you from having to walk the five minutes to the Europa Centerevery time you wished to purchase goods. The views from the apartmentswere incredible and really added to the peaceful ambiance of theholiday. The rooms are very well kept and clean and contained all youressential requirements, including a safe for a reasonable €10 a week.Noise level was kept at a minimum throughout our stay despite the manyapartments and families. The Europa Center nearby contains manyrestaurants who offer delicious food at reasonable prices, saving youfrom having to pay a total of €6 for a taxi into the center of PeurtoRico and back each night. Both beaches are about a 15 minute walk downhill from the apartments which is doable in the morning when it isn'ttoo hot.The hotel rule of not permitting the reservation of sunbedsbefore 9am was very good as there wasn't enough sunbeds to accommodateeach resident so everyone got a fair chance at having a sunbed for theday, however this rule could be further imposed as some individualschose to ignore it. Overall our stay in Aparthotel Altamar was veryenjoyable, budget friendly and we couldn't be happier with our holiday.

Review 60:There was a manager in the bar who we found extremely rude and not veryhelpful when dealing with a minor issue. He was also ovvercharging fordrinks that were clearly priced on the menu and when questioned about ithe made it look like our fault. It forced us to not use the bar for therest of the week which is a shame as the rest of the staff were reallyfriendly and helpful

Review 61:Excellent staff in general. Lovely pool. Great atmosphere at the bararea. Very family friendly. The spar. The bar was very convenient

Review 62:The altamar is first class I stayed ther about 8 yrs ago when I wentback last week it was even better upgraded rooms, would certainly goback, would also recomend to anyone looking for a great holiday

Review 63:Amazing place, the view from our room was incredible, the staff was very friendly, two pools, playground, apartment regularly cleaned. Only positive things to say. Definitely recommended!!!

Review 64:the lift and the steps, but all the apartment are like that out there

Review 65:i liked the location, it was very near to everything, cause the taxi was very cheap, only a couple of euro to puerto rico and amadores beach, also there is great facilities for the kids.

Review 66:Lovely place, not for those with walking difficulties! Stunning views and fantastic value for money. Clean, tidy and friendly, would definitely recommend to all !

Review 67:Absolutely stunning sea views, lovely balconies with sun loungers, askedfor a room near the pool and they accomodated this. Stayed there twiceand love the place, you can really chill out, you don' have to leaveyour room to get the views. Will definitely go back and back and back.

Review 68:The location and seaview & sunny balcony were just perfect. The hotelwas also reasonable price --> great value for money! Also the staff wasvery friendly and helpful. Elevator could be more modern and quicker butI didnt mind using stairs as well. The more up the studio, the betterview. I had mine in 4th floor which was nice.

Review 69:This hotel is great, but every room has a private, is kept clean. From every room has a beautiful view of the sea. The beach is close, suitable for swimming. Ideal location for trips to the mountains and swimming

Review 70:i stay at the altamar every year anf fine the staff very welcoming i have stayed at other hotels in this area but they did not match the altamar in any way

Review 71:we have seen one or two roaches in the bathroom at night...cant blame the hotel, rooms were spotless!

Review 72:Fantastic view, good price, nice room, friendly staff..no complaints!

Review 73:Altamar is a beautiful hotel, at the top of a cliff, offering an amazingview on the ocean side, and just between the beaches of Puerto Rico andAmadores. There's a free tranport service to the city centre, a shop inthe hotel, 3 swimming pools,a restaurant with good food & drinks. Everyroom with a tarrace - perfect for a lie in in the sun. Excellent!

Review 74:full of brits

Review 83:lovely view from room + pool, nice food, value for money

Review 84:Mosquitos.

Review 85:Variety of food at buffet breakfast and dinner. Great views from the room and big terrace.

Review 86:No electric kettle in the apartment something I would consider as standard not as an extra.olso a sun umbrella on the patio

Review 87:location friendly staff

Review 88:The lifts to rooms hada mind of their own.

Review 89:They ran a bus down to beach at Amadores.Food and sevice at restaurant good

Review 90:the beach is about 1.5km from the hotel on foot, and in summer there is no public transport, only taxi
