Reviews for Pensión Mari Carmen
Review 1:Excellent location, best in town. Views from balconies are stunning. Colorfully decorated place. Nice owner - she only speaks Spanish, but we communicated without any problem. Will stay there again.
Review 2:Despite booking a week ahead our arrival seemed a surprise. After two nights we discovered that they could have provided coffee which would have been a great thing as a walk down and up a steep hill with take away first thing in the morning was a pain.
Review 3:Clean. Great views. Use of washing machine a bonus when travelling.
Review 4:Personally I'm not a fan of the furry toilet seat covers.
Review 5:Greeted us with a tray of cold beer, jamon, cheese and various snacks which were all complimentary. Great location. Good value for money.
Review 6:Nothing.
Review 7:This pension has an amazing view! It's so nice to wake up seeing snow on one side of your balcony (Sierra Nevada) and the warm ocean on the other side.
Review 8:We liked everything about Hostel Mari Carmen. Booked for one night and stayed three nights. If you are infirm, elderly or unfit then the location would be challenging for you as the hostel is situated half way up the steep hill upon which Salobrena old town sits. However, the welcome from Mari Carmen and her family was the friendliest we received over the whole 14 day road trip. 10 minute walk to the beach which is small stones as opposed to sand so take protective footwear.
Review 9:When we arrived, it seemed we took the owners by surprise. We were told to go upstairs to find our room, but the lady wasn't very friendly at first. The bathroom was OK, but there was no soap or shampoo provided. The remote control didn't work, and the room isn't very well isolated. Our room was next to the staircase, and we could hear everything. Also, we never properly checked in, even though I asked about it several times. It felt quite amateuristic, although the pension does have a certain charm.
Review 10:The room is simple, and the bathroom as well. But for €45 a night during the summer season, it's not too bad. Keep in mind that this pension is located up a very steep street. It's about a 15-minute walk to the beach. However, also close by are some nice restaurants and cafes.
Review 11:Everything :)

Review 20:No parking.
Review 21:View from the terrace. Friendly service. Free WiFi. Interesting location in Stra part of the city.
Review 22:There was s problem with the wifi connection on our floor, but the staff helped with the issue promptly.
Review 23:Very clean. Great value and views. The location is good. staff are courteous and very friendly. Highly recommended.
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:Very friendly greeting with very large tapas and cold beer. Very unobtrusive but helpful staff. Breakfast is huge certainly sets you up for the day and at 4 Euros each well worth having. Great terrace and views.
Review 26:No soap and no floor mat. Very noisy due to echo from the hall, we were in room 100. The acoustics of the building not friendly although guest were not making alot of noise. It just seemed that every one was passing through our room. So only fair for comfort. No dedicated parking.
Review 27:Small and friendly, the owner greeted us with a drink and tapas once we had settled in. Generally very clean. Good central spot so no need to use the car.
Review 28:Absolutely nothing.
Review 29:Mari Carmen was so welcoming and good fun. Her dad is a real asset. The optional breakfast was wonderful. We got a real sense of Andalucian hospitality at its best.
Review 30:Mari Carmen and her family welcoming and helpful beyond the ordinary, wonderful sea and Sierra Nevada views from the terraces, good location close to old town, shops and sea, perfectly clean, good standard of the rooms and beds, rich breakfast, generous atmosphere...we were really satisfied and will return:-)
Review 31:Mattress sagged in middle and blankets were too heavy and uncomfortable ( where was the duvet ? and who uses blankets now a days ? ) Room would benefit with tea / coffee facilities and perhaps a mini fridge. Patio area was nice but not on windy nights as the ceramic plates on wall kept rattling and the shutter dooors clattered all night.
Review 32:Very clean and staff friendly. In the heart of the little town so easy for walking and access to shops restaurants and bars ( not so easy for parking or driving in )
Review 33:Having to leave.
Review 34:Lovely clean room with modern en suit and a shared terrace above. Mari Carmen herself is a lovely, helpful, humouros, genuine lady, a ten star hotellier!
Review 35:The Pension was convenient as a stop on our journey from Malaga to Alpujarras. It is situated in the old quarter on a narrow steep street which was difficult to find. There are views of mountains and sea from the balcony which was equiped with table and chairs for relaxing and dining. Parking was one street away and perfectly safe.
Review 36:You have to be aware of the parking, hotel gives information that the private parking is available, it is not true, only public parking, which is in that kind of the city terrible, to find a place close to the hotel, impossible..WiFi does not work well, in the first floor only in the half of the room, on the second only on the balcony sometimes. Never again.
Review 37:Nothing really, the only good thing about the hotel is that is perfectly clean.
Review 38:Very hospitable and friendly hostess, she treated us to ice cold beersand home-made fish snacks on arrival. Cosy and comfortable rooms.Driving on narrow Solbrerena streets and finding parking was not easy, but the hostess son Alberto stepped in as a great guide - helped to findparking and transfer luggage to the pension.
Review 39:Not much to dislike, but if I was being very picky: they didn't provide shower gel or shampoo and the WiFi signal was weak on the 2nd floor.
Review 40:This hotel is certainly the best I've stayed at in its price range in Spain. The whole place was immaculately clean, the room was spacious and comfortable and the terrace was lovely. The owner was so friendly and helpful and even brought us a plate of cheese and anchovies and beer after a day at the beach. Highly recommended!
Review 41:Parking! We were lucky as you have to take luggage up a steep hill. need to understand basic Spanish as English is limited
Review 42:Excellent beautiful friendly hosts. Offered beer and tapas on arrival very welcome after drive. Parking not easy we were lucky found a space nearby. Situated on a hill so not really suitable for anyone who is not quite mobile. Otherwise a real gem loved it very comfortable at a really good price. We had room with terrace and fab views! As others have said need to locate on map as it is not easy to find in saying that we had no problem using Google maps.
Review 43:marble floors need some scatter rugs as they are very cold in the early months, but not a big deal.
Review 44:Maria and Family made us very welcome, gave us the use of their kitchen, and the pension was spotlessly clean.
Review 45:Difficult to find parking in town as many of the roads were closed toparking due to passing easter processions.
Review 46:Extremely nice, friendly staff, well-equiped kitchen, quiet - eventhough in the middle of a small town. A defenite recommendation.
Review 47:We found the bed was a little hard but thats not a problem thatspersonal preference, there was handwash but no soap, we would haveexpected some soap or shower gel, but other than that perfect. These arenot complaints
Review 48:The friendlyness of the staff, nice room with balcony and good viewsreally warm welcome with a drink and snacks, the ease of being able tocome and go as we pleased. We live in Spain we were there to celebrateour wedding anniversary and enjoyed every minute. Thanks
Review 49:The most friendly hostal ever stayed in! Family Ubeda is great in hospitality. The hostal and the rooms are the cleanest in the world! We do come here already for two years (six times) and we were not once disappointed! A little secret in Spain!
Review 50:All good.
Review 51:Friendly arrival. Beautiful rooms. Roof terrace for views.
