Reviews for Hotel Mesón del Cid

Review 1:A little bit out of date TV set and bathrooms Noisy but very reasonable given the age of the building. No boiler nor coffee maker in the room.

Review 2:Location for sure but also the quality of the staff. Breakfast quality. WiFi with good bandwidth.

Review 3:Expensive car parking at 15 euros a day. We were hoping for a room overlooking the cathedral, but we overlooked the rear of the hotel.

Review 4:Located opposite the cathedral. Good location for exploring the historic centre, with its many shops and restaurants.

Review 5:Although its super awesome that you're in what appears to be a historic building, better insulation would be nice. I was a little cold.

Review 6:Literally right next to the Cathedral which is super nice. I also digged the historic feel of the building. Like you're a part of history.

Review 7:Nothing.

Review 8:Perfect possition right opposite the cathedral and a short walk to the centre of the town. Beautiful old building, very comfortable, good wi-fi and helpful staff.

Review 9:Parking is awkward on arrival. Rather basic for a prolonged stay.

Review 10:Fabulous location, easy check-in and out. Very comfortable room for a short overnight stay. View of the Cathedral. Stayed before. Shall stay again.

Review 11:We felt that the bed was a bit hard....seems a common thing in Europe...but "firmness" of beds is a personal thing. What suits one person doesn't necessarily suit others.

Review 12:We loved the unique furnishings of the hotel, the proximity to everything and the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. Having a bird's eye view of the cathedral from our room certainly gave this hotel the "Wow!"factor.

Review 13:The only thing I could say is that the beds were quite squeaky.

Review 14:The view! It makes you feel rich being able to afford that view at a reasonable price! Worth paying a bit extra for a room with a view. The best breakfast for our whole trip (2 weeks in Spain & Portugal), including cava, which is what one would expect of a 4 or 5 star hotel. It made our trip to Burgos & our last night in Spain! Thanks.

Review 15:The parking is rather expensive (15 €). We were very lucky and could find a parking place close to the hotel, but this is unusual.

Review 16:Everything was fine, but the location is excellent.

Review 17:The location and staff were excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a view room facing the cathedral which was incredible. There was access to a balcony at the end of the hall with a grand view of the city. We actually enjoyed the older building and interior. It really had character. The price was very good.

Review 18:I did find the underground car park a little difficult. This could be improved with a few notices to give instructions about how to open the doors.

Review 19:I love the location and the atmosphere at this hotel. I felt welcome and enjoyed my stay.

Review 20:Tricky to find by car. Lots of steps to haul your luggage from carpark to reception.

Review 21:Location right in the heart of the action, fantastic architecture, bars, restaurants shops.

Review 22:Mini bar fridge didn't work and central heating a bit noisy.

Review 23:Good size room with fantastic view of Burgos cathedral, in the centre of the historic area and close to cafes etc.

Review 24:PLEASE NOTE Our accommodation was in an annexe and did not have the same feel as the hotel.itself. Having only been in the reception which looked charming we would have preferred to stay in the hotel itself.

Review 25:The Hotel was next to the wonderful cathedral and had a car park. Good wifi.

Review 26:No dislikes

Review 27:The Location was outstanding, staff super helpful and the restaurant a gastronomic delight, the room was spacious with a stunning view of the Cathedral And this hotel has parking

Review 28:Air conditioning not very effective.

Review 29:Best possible location for seeing cathedral and old city. Comfortable room. Very helpful and accommodating staff. Excellent breakfast.

Review 30:There was no bar in the hotel. We didn't get the stunning view but we accept everyone can't have "the view".

Review 31:Price for excellent location

Review 32:We got trapped between garage doors trying to exit the garage. I suspect that this has happened to other guests.

Review 33:We were in the annexe rather than the main hotel - a room with a great view of the cathedral. The furniture was a bit rustic, but the staff were helpful. Good secure parking.

Review 34:Perfect location next to the Cathedral, but on a back side so not in the midst of tourist traffic. Short walk to all sights. Quiet. Many restaurants close by.

Review 35:Garage access is rather awkward. Some of the staff really helpful; others, less so.

Review 36:The location. The room was traditional, spacious with a stunning view of the cathedral.

Review 37:My only minor niggle is that the car park is completely separate from the hotel so there's no way to avoid carrying your luggage.

Review 38:The location is fantastic, the building has plenty of character and the staff are very helpful. The city is fantastic.

Review 39:It is the cathedral that is the great attraction of Burgos and you could not be closer to it than in this establishment. Rooms on one side look straight across at its fine facade and a one minute walk will take you the entrance portal. The rooms themselves with their bathrooms are wholly satisfactory though not luxurious. The dining room for breakfast is a busy one but service is efficient and reception is helpful. Actually reaching the hotel is something of a challenge but their garaging facilities just across a narrow road are a real bonus.Their restaurant for supper is not on site though very close and they serve a good, well-priced dinner.

Review 40:The bathroom is looking a little tired, chipped tiles, rust on the radiator, etc. A loo brush wouldn't go amiss.

Review 41:Welcoming staff. Fantastic view of the cathedral from the bedroom. A gentle stroll to all the central amenities.

Review 42:You really need to park in a nearby public carpark, walk to the hotel on foot and then fix to bring the car to the hotel car park. But that's not the hotel's fault: its because it is in the middle of the narrow streets of the old town.

Review 43:Fabulous old hotel in prime location overlooking the cathedral. Couldn't be better.

Review 44:Annexe rooms were across the square from the main hotel necessitating a walk outdoors to breakfast - no problem when the weather is good.

Review 45:Superbly sited - you opened the door of the annexe to see the magnificent site of Burgos cathedral immediately before you.

Review 46:We requested a couple of times for a parking reservation with noresponse. There doesn't seem to be any reason why you shouldn'tbe able to book a space in advance as there are plenty of places and itwould give travellers ease of mind when they have cars full of luggage. The parking is actually excellent, very secure and the hotel shouldallow for bookings.

Review 47:Excellent position... Just by the cathedral and centre of town. Petfriendly although we wonder why they charge 11 euros for a non sheddingsmall pooch.

Review 48:Truly inspiring view of the cathedral. Burgos has a lot to do and the hotels central location allowed us not to waste time. Excellent tourist office is very close. Great breakfast. Although it looks like many of the rooms view the cathedral, we paid extra for a view and I do not regret it. Parking tight and expensive, but I do not regret that either. Overall, seemed expensive at the time, but now it feels like a bargain for the experience.

Review 49:Hotel difficult to find as it is in a pedestrian area. Sat nav sent us in circles!

Review 50:Great position close to all historical sites eg cathedral. Parking available. Many restaurants nearby.

Review 51:The room was very dirty. The bed had lots of hair on it by previous tenants, THERE WAS BLOOD ON THE TOILET SEAT (menstrual) by the location and the floor had lots of sand and bundles of hair! Told the check-out staff and didn't get an apology either.

Review 52:The location.

Review 53:It was all good, though being a large hotel is lacked a bit of character in the communal areas. I don't know what facilities hotel has as we just used the room as a base, and it was perfect for that.

Review 54:We had a large, comfortable and attractive 'family' room in the annexe part of the hotel. It had a spacious bathroom with a lovely deep bath. The room looked straight out onto Burgos Cathedral, which was wonderful, and hotel is perfectly placed for exploring the old town and lots of bars/ restaurants (further up the street, so no noise disturbance at all). The Camino goes literally right past the hotel.

Review 55:We really enjoyed staying at the Meson El Cid. Bathroom facilities were fine, clean and comfortable, getting a little worn.

Review 56:Beautiful cathedral view from window. Full of character. Helpful staff.

Review 57:The parking is narrow. Small room .with no space for luggage. Small bathroom.

Review 58:This hotel is very well located. The employees are courteous. They give a nice help to transfer luggage from parking to hotel. The night was quiet.

Review 59:The best location right opposite the cathedral, the hotel is very Spanish style which we really liked. Staff great, they opened up breakfast for us early as we were cycling and needed to leave early. This must be the best place to stay in the city, definitely recommend it.

Review 60:If you ever go to Burgos just don't miss it. The hotel represents a "visit" in itself, particularly if you are lucky enough to reserve a room with a view on the cathedral. The staff is kind and professional, breakfast is superb, the atmosphere is unique. What else?

Review 61:Some desk staff treated us wonderfully; others were aloof and acted as if we were bothering them when we had questions.

Review 62:We had a great room on the 5th floor with a breathtaking view of the cathedral. Close to shops, restaurants, and the tree-lined plaza area. Walking distance to the museum.

Review 63:We had 2 single beds pushed together to form a double, and this really did not work out, they were not exactly the same height and kept separating.

Review 64:The room was perfectly charming, well- appointed and maintained in spite of being in an old buidling, which is hard to do! The location can't be beat, and in spite of being right in front of the cathedral, our room was private and quiet. This is really one of my favorite hotels that I have ever stayed in !

Review 65:I used the hotel twice in summer 2015. The location (and view) is unparallelled. Make sure to book a room with a view (10 Euro extra), well worth it.The staff were very helpful, even and followed us to the parking house to indicate the place and procedure. Parking costs extra, but is very protected, thus reassuring when travelling long distances with children where one does not want to empty the car completely. The hotel is excellent in cleanliness, facilities and ambience too. I have no complaints whatsoever and recommend this hotel without hesitation. I will definitely use it again when in the area.

Review 66:Restaurant El Mesón no good value for one´s money.

Review 67:So close to the Cathedral that it is hard even to frame a photograph from the window. Quiet location. Large, airy rooms.

Review 68:- Hotel split in 4 buildings (restaurant, parking, reception/rooms, rest of the rooms) - Employees I had at my arrival were not nice and smily at all - Room and equipment are old fashion - Noise insulation between rooms is very bad - Prices are a bit too high compare to other hotel I did in Spain

Review 69:- Location in city center nearby the Cathedral

Review 70:We didn't eat there as dinner and breakfast were very expensive so can't comment on the food

Review 71:Value for room was very good. Location excellent. Our room looked right out on the Cathedral but was still quiet at night.

Review 72:Breakfast at 13 euros was quite steep.

Review 73:The location was superb. We were located within yards of the main Cathedral regarded as one of the Gothic masterpieces of the world. The spires loomed majestically overhead yet because of the elevation of the hotel it was as if you could almost reach out and touch them. Rarely will you be that close to such a massive architectural wonder that still manages to be close enough that you can appreciate its elevated wonders from close up.

Review 74:Our view was terrific (of the Cathedral plaza) and it happened to be a festival night so there were amazing fireworks visible from our room. The room personified "old Spain".

Review 75:Google maps comes up with confusing location, but 68 Calle de Fernan Gonzales takes you to outside their garage. Best to street park and check in on foot.

Review 76:The best location in Burgos, on a stair case facing the cathedral across a small square and on the pilgrimage route. Very helpful and friendly staff. The restaurant is a gourmet operation--spectacular. There is an excellent parking garage.

Review 77:Nothing really-- excellent!

Review 78:Really a great place. Medieval decor, clean, and a great staff. Easy tofind, easy to park, and you couldn't stay any closer to the action, less you wanted to sleep in the plaza!!! No issues with wifi oranything. Everything is within walking distance!!

Review 79:The breakfast was a little disappointing as when we went it wasn't busy, 6 or 7 tables full, but the restocking of food, plates and cutlery was a little slow. Worth the wait to have breakfast at the window seat overlooking the beautiful cathedral

Review 80:We stayed for one evening on route from Santander to Murcia. The hotel is perfectly placed next to cathedral, near the castle and lots of places to eat. Also it has secure underground parking so we didn't have to unload the whole car for our nights stay.

Review 81:the steps! If you arrive by bus (not taxi) and get to the cathedral square you are confronted by 2 sets of rather steep stone stairs up to the B&B. And it is a very long walk around to the upper access to the entrance, requiring only a few steps.

Review 82:Once in, location is fantastic. Rooms a little small but quite adequate.

Review 83:The rooms are a little outdated in terms in furnishings. The wifi is extremely slow when it gets a lot of use.

Review 84:What a great location --I had a room facing the cathedral -- what a view to wake up to! The price was very reasonable for my night's stay. The front desk staff was very helpful at all times.

Review 85:Separate pillows for the double bed, rather than one very long pillow for both sleepers, would be preferable!

Review 86:Hotel Mesón del Cid is perfectly situated directly in front of the Cathedral at Burgos, so people wishing to see the Cathedral and walk up to the castle on the hill will not be disappointed. The price was excellent and much cheaper than many of our other hotels in our trip around Spain. The area around the hotel is very quiet, but a walk past the cathedral through the city gates reveals that the esplanade (El Espolón) along the "river" is where the action is at. It was great to have a full size bathtub! Off-street parking is available for a fee, though we had no problems finding parking in the next street for free. Air-conditioning was good too.

Review 87:Quite expensive parking in a parkinghouse close to the hotel.

Review 88:Perfectly situated for visiting the cathedral and citycenter. Lovely walk to the river with the beautiful trees. Had breakfast at a cafe close to the hotel.

Review 89:The hotel was having issues with their wifi so it didn't work in the rooms. This was really the only negative thing I can say about the place.

Review 90:We loved this hotel and everything about it - from the extremely friendly and inviting staff, to the clean and uniquely designed rooms to the restaurant and outdoor patio area, which is great for small children! Though not a large menu, the dishes were unique and tasty.

Review 91:Nice old world feel, with modern comforts. We appreciated the cathedral view room in exchange for the 3 bed room originally booked, being the only one available at the time of booking.

Review 92:Listing stated free parking which was on the street and no guarantee of being close to the hotel. 15 Euro for secure parking, which wasn't a problem but would have been nice to know beforehand

Review 93:View of the cathedral from the room. Nice breakfast Helpful and friendly staff Lifts

Review 94:Having the garage was great. Seeing the cathedral out the window and the FIREWORKS as part of the city festival was amazing. The double windows shut our all street sound.

Review 95:Burgos is full of life, we were there in the festival season so there was entertainment on every street corner. The local food and wine was amazing.

Review 96:everything else... no smile or welcome of any description at reception, had to ask for assistance with my 80 year old father's bag, rooms were in a hotel annexe across the road, view from the rooms was a blank wall on the other side of a back street (not the cathedral, which we discovered the next day you can have for €10 extra..), decor is dark and oh so tired, noisy rooms (next door plumbing, chairs scrapping across floor of overhead rooms etc)...quite frankly we found it quite depressing. We didnt bother staying to see if breakfast was any better. It was clean, beds were comfortable and location was good. Other than that, there is pretty much nothing to recommend about this place. We are puzzled by all the wonderful reviews - perhaps for Camino walkers who have been staying in hostels it might seem lovely, or maybe the view of the cathedral from a bedroom window is so incredible it helps you forgive/overlook how awful the rooms are... unfortunately we didnt get to find out. We were 30 something sisters travelling with our 80 year old dad. We were recommended the hotel which is why we stayed there... we will be recommending others to avoid...

Review 97:location

Review 98:You will need a GPS to get to the correct location to unload baggage. You cannot drive fright up to the front of the hotel. The GPS should take you to the rear of the hotel where the garage is and the staff will open a back door to bring you baggage to your room. Not a problem just a little different.

Review 99:The location was great, the hotel is across from the cathedral and just steps away from the main square. The rooms facing the cathedral cost about 10 euros more but they are well worth it.

Review 100:Floor in room we were provided with was not properly cleaned (sticky residue on the floor). On second complaint staff arranged for transfer to another room.

Review 101:Location and availability of parking

Review 102:On arrival getting the car to the right parking area was complicated. Receptionist left my elderly parents standing outside in the cold waiting for us to park and bring the luggage. Restaurant was shut because Sunday night. Disappointing

Review 103:Location

Review 104:Staff were impatient on arrival. Our room was in another building and security system was not explained clearly. Parking for bicycles was difficult. Restaurant was was good but a plate for bread would have been nice rather than tossing it on the tablecloth.

Review 105:The staff was so friendly and helpful. I was injured from walking the Camino and needed to rest. They gave me a room where I could lay on the bed and look at the Cathedral! Fantastic!

Review 106:Guests need to be aware that getting to hotel parking is a bit hairy having to drive down narrow streets. A GPS is a must.

Review 107:Location meant that we could walk to historic centre of Burgos. The decor befitted the style of building. Secure parking.

Review 108:A taxi can't get you to the front, so you may have to carry bags up and down steps. However, if you're not solo, leave your bags where the taxi stops and one person can go to reception, as they have a "back door" entrance that's easier for bags.

Review 109:The hotel is next door to the cathedral, which is a magnificent collection of art and architecture. Most other things are walking distance or a cheap cab ride away. Hotel was "old- fashioned" Spanish style but with modern facilities.

Review 110:Noisy drunk teenagers congregated outside yelling their heads off between 1 and 3pm rendering sleep impossible. This was on a Thursday and rather then face less sleep on a Friday I checked out a day early and went up to Santander. Hint. A bucket of piss thrown from the judas balcony did seem to disperse them somewhat.

Review 111:Opposite cathedral

Review 112:I thought the breakfast at 13.20 Euros was extremely high for Spain and for a three star hotel. It was a buffet, but this is pretty pricey. Parking, as in most old city centers is a challenge.

Review 113:The location of the hotel is excellent. The rooms were comfortable and had the pleasant feel of an older, historic Spanish hotel. The hotel is fairly well signposted to aide in finding the location. You are right next to the Cathedral which is excellent and near loads of restaurants, shops and bars.

Review 114:The double bed was very small, with a one five foot pillow, between both of us. Also the blanket was a bit smelly.

Review 115:Location, parking, and view of cathedral

Review 116:The plug on the sink leaked so much that you couldn't keep a bowl of water of water. I had to shave under the tap. Nobody, anywhere, ever oils the hinges on hotel room doors. The bathroom door creaked particularly badly.

Review 117:The location

Review 118:Great location !!! Staying just face to face the cathedral is unique and exciting experience !!! People can go and visit almost all the historical places and monuments in Burgos by walking. There are several good tapas bars around the hotel. Free car parking is available near hotel in case if people can find the free places.

Review 119:tuvimos un problema con una de las tres habitaciones pero en seguida nos cambiaron y con amabilidad

Review 120:cama comoda y doble ventana para no sufrir mucho ruido

Review 121:Noisy. Can hear people talking in the corridor and next bathroom.

Review 122:Secure underground parking for our motorbike. Location. Good value but had to pay extra for parking.

Review 123:Nothing

Review 124:We stayed here on the second night of a drive from England to Central Portugal. We specifically wanted to see Burgos Cathedral, but did not quite appreciate exactly how close it is - excellent. We were placed in the annexe to the hotel which is a short climb up a few outside steps, and entry was by way of an intercom system, which seemed to work satisfactorily. The room was spacious and comfortable, and breakfast was very good, with traditional English ingredients offered. We did not eat dinner in the restaurant so we cannot comment on the standard but the prices did seem a little high based on our experience elsewhere in central Spain.

Review 125:The architecture was great and brought back many good memories from my previous trip to Burgos. Meson el Cid was a great location although getting into the car park was a bit troublesome especially for two mature people but the hotel itself was a pleasure.

Review 126:Pretty hotel in old castilian style in the very center of Burgos. Most of the city highlights are just a few minutes away on foot. Our room had a direct first line view of the cathedral's magnificent façade. The hotel staff is very friendly. The hotel service keeps the rooms clean and decoration/appliances are in perfect conditions.

Review 127:The street noise was a bit bothersome at night.

Review 128:The staff were wonderfully helpful, full of fun, and really made us feel welcome. Dinner was excellent perhaps because a glass of Sangria turned into a pitcher full on the house.

Review 129:Found the hotel very easy upon arrival the staff told us very clearly how and where to park our car, and how to find our room, my room faced onto the cathedral which was an amazing sight, it was very hot on arrival and took a while to cool it down but I was so happy with the room that I did,nt make a comment to the staff about it, the furniture was of a very high quality and the room was very clean, I had a very good night sleep and enjoyed a very nice meal in the hotel restaurant, I will definitely be returning, great value for money

Review 130:I woke about 5am but the staff were reluctant to make me a coffe and when they did it was disgusting. I wanted to go out for a walk but the hotel was locked and no staff or security system to let myself out.

Review 131:The location for the town is excellent. Breakfast was good.

Review 132:This hotel was well placed, right next to the cathedral, easy to stroll in the evening around the old town. There was a lovely view of the cathedral from the breakfast room. The staff were very helpful and the room was clean with some old world charm.
