Reviews for Berghotel Schwarzwaldblick

Review 1:indoor pool was broken, sauna cost extra. we weren't informed that the card machine was broken until we were about to pay upon leaving, we had just enough cash on us to the euro, the only cash machine being a 20min walk away. Could have been better communicated.

Review 2:room was very nice and big with a lot of floor space, nice view, bathtub. good breakfast with attentive staff. wifi was working well. Close to town centre if you don't mind a bit of uphill walking. Quiet area.

Review 3:Very outdated and poorly maintained rooms. The decor was pretty disgusting to say the least. The fridge in the room didn't work and nor did the tap (we later discovered the plumbing leaked and their resolution was to turn off the water supply rather than fix it). The shower head was also broken, and the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable. These issues combined meant the value for money was fairly poor. It was a long walk up a relatively steep hill, which did little to soothe our dissatisfaction! There was no laundry service despite this being listed on booking.com as a facility and no-one around when we came puffing up the hill with our luggage to check-in, except the cute little furry dog. Regrettable he was unable to assist us. Overall, poor value for money, and we wouldn't recommend staying here.

Review 4:Good breakfast - though the staff were a little hard to catch, they were still friendly. Despite previous reviews, our wi-fi worked reasonably well and didn't cause troubles. Pretty view and fresh air, plus a cute dog greeted us on reception!

Review 5:The heat was not working. They tried to fix it but could not. We slept with no heat. Internet did not work in our room and the refrigerator also did not work. We were told when we got there that credit card would not be accepted even though it clearly says on the booking that they were. I would not recommend for the price!

Review 6:Great space, large two floor room. Adequate German breakfast. Great location to Triberg

Review 7:Restaurant was closed for dinner...every night. Front desk claims the kitchen staff quit recently. Would have been nice to know at booking since restaurant availability played largely into hotel decision. The free (although a billed item upon checkout) breakfast was very good though. The property also had a pool and sauna which we learned were closed when we arrived. Further, the WiFi connectivity was non-existent and the kids swing set is literally falling apart. It's obvious this property suffering from neglect.

Review 8:Very quiet at night lending to peaceful rest.

Review 9:Specifically requested twin room which Booking.com showed were available. Owner said they only had doubles and offered a family room for 30 euros more. Eventually got a very uncomfortable sofa bed for no extra. Restaurant closed. Owner said staff were either on holiday, sick or lazy. Very hot and no aircon or even a fan. Bad or non-existent facilities for disabled or partially disabled.

Review 10:View from the room

Review 11:Very old facilities, filthy dirty carpet, mouldy shower curtain, old bread in cupboard from previous guests! This hotel needs a serious refit! Absolutely no value for money!

Review 12:WiFi didn't work well..but manageable at some areas of hotel.

Review 13:Location is just at foot steps of hill and near to market. Staff is very helpful specially Mr. Jack. Room was quite big with balcony facing the valley.

Review 14:We were quite looking forward to the views from the room, having read the reviews on booking.com, but we got a room that faced the back side of the property and didnt offer any views of the blackforest. The bed was really uncomfortable to sleep on. Wifi was okay, poor connection in between. Breakfast was okay. There is a 2.5% charge if you pay by credit card, which we didnt know at the time of booking.

Review 15:The hotel is located just 900m from the waterfalls. The rooms were spacious, although a bit dark and dull.

Review 16:It was a lovely place but I was lil unhappy with the pillows.. They were lumpy.. Another thing was cleanliness.. The hotel was very well kept but it was our room that i was not happy with..it was given to us very neat but obviously we used it and made it a lil messy.. The manager did mention that they were short of staff but I still expect them to clean my room when I am away..

Review 17:Great view from our balcony.. staff was very helpful and welcoming.. It was a bery short stay for 2 nights But overall I would rate it as 7/10

Review 18:Staff were very accommodating with extra bed provided when we arrived with one more person in our party. Breakfast was generous, fresh, and who could beat those views?!

Review 19:Great hotel in an excellent location. We stayed two families with teenage children. The staff was very good and the service was excellent. Very good breakfast including Freshly baked hot rolls. Quiet and charming hotel, Highly recommended.

Review 20:Although clean and perfectly ok,the decor was outdated and dark , with a seventies-styled tiled bathroom and kitchenette. Restaurant service was very slow.

Review 21:Great location, a short walk/drive out of town in a quite spot with lovely views. Very helpful staff, especially the manager , Jack and the poor waiter who was rushed off his feet both nights in the restaurant . We had a west facing balcony (ask for a room on higher floor if you can) which was lovely in the evening.

Review 22:It was unfortunate that the sauna/pool wasn't operational. Also, I would have preferred to be able to do my own laundry (they have put everything in the dryer).

Review 23:The view from our room was great and the breakfast was good.

Review 24:The wifi was terrible. But, who needs Internet in the Black Forest?

Review 25:We were given a 2 level apartment with 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. Full size living room and partial kitchenette. The beds were very comfy. Family of 5, each child had their own bed. Very clean! Staff was super nice.

Review 26:Having to pay the bill in cash without prior notification.

Review 27:The staff was helpful, polite, and pleasant. Loved the two-story flat with balconies on both floors. Really, really appreciated having an elevator.

Review 28:Dinner was adequate quality. Fee for using credit card. Purpose that business pay for this service is to provide convenience and attract customers, not to turn and require the guest to pay for it. Balcony faced the forest 40 meters away. Would've preferred a view of the valley. No fridge.

Review 29:The location was the best part of the stay. Most of the staff was friendly.

Review 30:As wonderful as the location is, the hotel is quite dated - 1970's shag carpeting and such. The door to the outside patio was difficult to use.

Review 31:This is a nice hotel tucked away up the road from the main street, and it is very quiet and secluded. It must be wonderful in the wintertime. We stayed one night.

Review 32:We booked this motel because of the pool and the excellent reviews. We were informed that the pool was not working and the owner didn't want to spend any money to fix it. Then, a few days into our stay the balcony door broke. We were told that we were violent with the door and we would be responsible for it. Our group consisted of 3 siblings, all over the age of 55, and our 90 year old mother. How "violent" can we be? Wi fi was random. None in our rooms but was able to hook up in the dining room

Review 33:The view and the food was very good

Review 34:The mini fridge smelled like sewage ans stunk up the whole room when we opened it up. Room was dirty and the beds were uncomfortable.

Review 35:The view was beautiful.

Review 36:The room was a bit dated. And while the front deal was quite efficient, we missed the welcoming smile that we had become used to on this trip everywhere.

Review 37:The Berghotel is situated at the end of a lane going into the forest. Very scenic, however a slightly long walk to town. For us, location is a big plus because of the views. The room was quite comfortable.

Review 38:The suit was very spacious, but lacked in usefulness. There was lots of mismatched furniture that just took up space. Though the bedroom did have a full size bed and wardrobe. That was absolutely all that would fit. You could not open the door completely. Though it seemed very clean, my daughter dropped a toy behind the bed and when we moved it to get the toy it had absolutely not been cleaned behind since being put there. At least an inch of dust stacked on the carpet. Also, we were in the second building and though it is advertised as having wifi and the desk person assured us it should work it did not. He just shrugged his shoulders at us when we explained it wasn't working unless we came to the main building.

Review 39:The size was great because we have a toddler and like to have a separate room for her to nap while we relax in the other room. Also, the bathroom had a full tub which is rare in most European hotels. The staff was generally very nice even though we had a toddler who was not always happy.

Review 40:This hotel has the initial appearance of a Bavarian ski lodge, but in reality it is just bad German decor from the 70's. While very clean, it could use a total overhaul. Breakfast was the typical European Buffet with bread, cheese, jams, and granola... Nothing fresh. Dinner at the restaurant was decent, but overpriced. It was very slow, even by German standards... 2.5 hours to feed 3 people with no one else in the restaurant.

Review 41:Our room was well appointed with plenty of space. It worked well because there were two sleeping areas, allowing us to put our kids in the "living room" area, and my husband and I in the bedroom. Nice location close to town, but you will need a car if you are not able to walk up and down a steep hill.

Review 42:Old scratchy towels! No extra bedding for the pull out couch. I gave my child my bedding so she wouldn't freeze at night. No one was around the first night to ask for blankets. They should have already had those in the room. Loud rooms, could hear doors slamming and people talking at night. The restaurant service is really really slow. I think there is only one/two people working there. Old rooms, plenty of empty storage space.

Review 43:The location to the town and a decent morning breakfast. Felt safe and the view was pretty.

Review 44:At first the staff seemed friendly by offering additional services, but were only trying to get additional money. Free parking was advertised, but they offered me garage and tried to charge. No bath robes provided, but when asked they provided and only informed about cost on check-out.

Review 45:Location was good. The suite was a very good size.

Review 46:We were housed in a separate building and wifi was only available at the main building with the restaurant. Check in strictly after 3pm, reception was not opened when we arrived at 12nn.

Review 47:Great view from the balcony

Review 48:The room wax out dated snd needs done renovations

Review 49:The view from our room was wonderful. The edit staff was accommodating ad we got to the hotel ( min before the kitchen closed. The good was wonderful.

Review 50:1) room was not cleaned or even aired out. When sitting on the couch there was puffs of dust that came off of it when we sat down! Disgusting!!! 2) room stayed freezing cold even though heat was all of the way up. 3) bathroom toilet is only for short people because it is directly under roof eaves, towels are like 20grit sandpaper! 4) no toiletries or phone 5) gentleman yelled at us when we came at 11am because check in was not until 3pm. I explained that some places allow for early check in. He rudely said absolutely not! There was another family behind us who also tried to check in. He was a little nicer to them - they were from Belgium. He still turned them away! 6) We went down and enjoyed the village and came back at 3pm. the door was locked until 3:10pm even tho the sign said they would open at 3pm! 7) during check in (with a female) we asked what time the pool closed - at 9pm. Restaurant closed at 9pm even tho the sign said 1030pm! pool opened at 8am - 1300 & then again from 1700-2100! same with sauna. 8) they wouldn't let anyone park in the garage 9) they closed their front doors and locked them at 9pm. We asked for a key and she gave us one. We were there for the festivities at the waterfall and the fireworks didn't even start till 9pm and we still had to walk all the way back! we didn't get back till almost 10pm! 10) check out was no earlier than 8:30am. I waited till 8:45am before I asked other staff to find the front desk receptionist. Same lady came down. I checked out and left. 11) wifi says it's free and everywhere. it is NOT! the only place you can access any internet is in the restaurant. ......only open during certain times......and even then it barely works. Everyone was getting frustrated!

Review 51:nothing

Review 52:The rooms looked like they hadn't been updated in decades, and the pool was not open because the hotel was just re-opening after a holiday. There were little things, like burnt out light bulbs, that just made it feel long unused.

Review 53:The hotel is within walking distance to the waterfall, not too far from town, and included a nice breakfast.

Review 54:Poor lighting outside - many lights didn't work and it was difficult to walk back and forth from car. No English TV channels and wifi was very weak. Front desk wasn't really maintained during evening to ask questions. Had a pool & sauna, but no lights were on and nobody offered it upon arrival, which was disappointing. I think this hotel would be better in the summer - but seemed to be lacking good qualities during the off-season. Far from down-town area.

Review 55:One person on staff spoke great English and was given entrance into Waterfalls with check-in. Room was very spacious and very clean! Great breakfast served.

Review 56:The bed was not very comfortable. Plus it had seen a few better days..

Review 57:We enjoyed our stay and the staff where very friendly. The pool was very nice. The views where pretty.. The hotel restaurant was very nice and friendly.. Plus the food was not to bad..

Review 58:Heater was not working well.

Review 59:Beautiful view from the balcony. Spacious and clean room for both triple and twin sharing. Five minutes drive to town. Simple breakfast.

Review 60:- There was no wi-fi connection at all at the "suite confort" building (which is normally more expensive than standard room). So if you want to stay disconnected from the virtual world, you have the possibility to. If not, you will have to go to the reception/restaurant building for wifi connection. - The room is not very bright. - The staff (we met a gentleman and two women) are correct. They are not very warm nor cold. They just do their job correctly.

Review 61:After staying 2 nights at the "suite confort": - The duplex room is spacious - The restaurant decoration is friendly, there are big angle-table for big familly

Review 62:Had to get ahold of some help in night.. Wasn't able to contact any hotel staff.. All worked out okay though

Review 63:Jack at front desk was wonderful and very friendly, dinner was awesome!

Review 64:Jake at the front desk was very helpful and nice. The location is wonderful. Very nice indoor pool area. Great views from our room. Only thing was the wifi didn't wuite reacher our room but we didn't really need it. I would stay here again!

Review 65:Was a bit of a maze to find your way around. Games room not functioning. WiFi signal only worked in reception. Our room smelt like stale cigarettes.

Review 66:Location was great. Easy access to Black Forest walks and town. Hotel restaurant- great food and service. Large room and balcony Indoor pool Parking

Review 67:The rooms are rather dated but a good night's sleep was had by all and everything worked as it should

Review 68:The prompt attention to any problem such as a beeping fire alarm in the bedroom. The swimming pool was great. The weather was dreadful but we still enjoyed ourselves. If the weather had been sunnier it would have been fantastic place to stay

Review 69:Not searching for information about what a vegan eats and therefor the lack of vegan food options for breakfast. But the gluten free breat was well apreciated.

Review 70:The location The room The staff The effort to accomodate my special needs request The sweet little dog playfull dog they have there

Review 71:WiFi does is only available in restaurant area and not all over as suggested, also the signal is weak at best. We were given the wrong code by a member of staff and they wouldn't recheck it for us, our suspicions were later confirmed by a fellow traveller who gave us the right code!

Review 72:Peaceful location , check in before going to the waterfalls as you will be given a card to get in the waterfalls for free.

Review 73:Beds were uncomfortable and pillows were wafer thin.

Review 74:The onsite restaurant had good food and the breakfast was normalEuropean style (bread, meat, cheese).

Review 75:WiFi available only in the main building.

Review 76:At reception Jack was very friendly and helpful. The waitress in the restaurant gave us very good tips for the meal. The scenery is fantastic. All around it was a wonderful stay.

Review 77:Carpet from 70s needs to go, it feels like stiff cardboard under your feed and it smells gross. Breakfast on the second day wasn't enough for the guests...

Review 78:Great base for triberg. Food is awesome. Beds were comfortable and lots of space! Very quiet.

Review 79:Manager of hotel is not the friendliest guy in the world. Need to work on his attitude towards guests.

Review 80:Very good location and rooms are clean. Restaurant staff (except manager) is very friendly and helpful.

Review 81:Slightly tired burnt orange shag carpet - but it was clean! And the wi-fi was completely non-existant. The front desk clerk continued to insist that the wi-fi was working for him just fine when multiple guests we saw were unsuccessful at connecting from their room, from the front porch, from the lobby where the front desk was. Just tell yourself there is no wi-fi and you will be far less frustrated!

Review 82:The photos lead you to believe that the hotel is in the countryside - it is actually on a dead end street behind a few apartment buildings, but it is quite close to downtown. The proprietor is a nice man who went out of his way to accomodate us even though Booking.com had not actually informed him of our reservation, and he also subbed a box lunch for breakfast when our plans changed and we had to leave before the breakfast was served. The rooms are HUGE - lots of space which would be nice for a stay of a few days - you would not be claustrophobic in this room! There was also a very nice balcony with a pretty view.

Review 83:The hotel layout is very inconvenient (lots of stairs, two story room with one bathroom upstairs, children's' sleeping area in room with TV, one trash can (upstairs), slanted roof made it impossible to stand up straight in shower if you are above medium height, etc. The hotel seems to skimp on basic things: no light bulb in main area of room, issue never fixed; fire alarms in halls beeping due to low batteries; no shower curtain, so water all over the bathroom floor; hall ways dark, you had to search for light switches, and sometimes the lights would go out in mid transit of the hall; towels reminiscent of coarse grit sand paper; a poopy-diaper smell on occasion from the bathroom. There were so many long halls, poorly lit areas, and motion sensor lights turning off prematurely it seemed to be a creepy, out-of-date, gloomy place. As my husband put it, "kind of like that hotel from The Shining, but not as nice." Also, there is no wifi. The person behind the desk has it, and that's it. You've been warned.

Review 84:The room was spacious and clean. The location was close to the main area of Triberg. The breakfast was typical German continental.

Review 85:The setup of the shower head. It spays water on to the flood even with shower curtain usage.

Review 86:wi fi did not work in our building. It work out great since we were there to relax. we needed to be unplugged from net.

Review 87:Walking distance through forest is optimal for arriving at the Wassefalle and going into town. Beautiful surroundings and decent pool. Jack is attentive and professional. Restaurant was ok.

Review 88:Wi-fi did not work in the building we were in. A bit of a hike into town. We walked once and drove in the rest of the time. Parking might be a problem in town during high tourist season.

Review 89:Very quiet. Nice breakfast. Room was much larger than expected.

Review 90:The owner of the hotel should repair or upgrade the rooms. The bathroomseems like an ugly room from the early 80´S. Disgusting eqiupment. Verypoor breakfast. Boring staff. The whole hotel smells like a cheap pubYou should demolish. The dustbin wasn´t cleaned. The fluid soap case wasempty while we was staying there. We have got toiletpaper only byrequest. Why does the owner save money with small mindedthings??Horrible price compared with the weak service. Please never takethis hotel!

Review 91:The only thing was to leave back the key. By the way the forest and thesmall city with the nature was nice.

Review 92:Upstairs bathroom.

Review 93:Great service, friendly staff. Good parking. Would have been better if we had been able to stay longer (overnight stay for us) to utilise the full facilities available, (pool/suana etc).

Review 94:Spacious room for family.

Review 95:This hotel is wonderful, the location is beautiful and not far from the town. A must stay!

Review 96:Hidden fees. Dirty and dated furniture. Many dirty tables not cleared at breakfast. Worst unusable internet.

Review 97:Not much

Review 98:No elevator, no minibar

Review 100:Additioneel Creditcard cost 2.5% charged to the customer

The Fine Print

Please note that WiFi is available in most of the hotel building. Due to the design of the building, WiFi is not available everywhere.
