Reviews for El Bahía

Review 1:The hotel could be perfect just with little investment in cleanliness and room equipments, sound proofing for example, window shutters, hungers...etc one person manages the reception and the bar serving external customers

Review 2:The hotel is located right at the beach which is nice even though we could hear the noise coming from the port

Review 3:do not pay! for breakfast its just disaster means nearly nothing to eat, and room more then simple ,no aircond.,bathroom we couldnt stand the shower

Review 4:nothing

Review 5:The Receptionist/ bartender/ waiter was the most delightful and friendly person ever. Sitting out front having a drink and overlooking the beach, the water and Gibraltar is one of the things I will remember most about my stay at El Bahia. We had a car so it was centrally located between Tarifa (For a trip to Tanger) and Gibraltar. The rooms were clean and quaint. IF you are looking for luxury you won't find it here but if you are looking for value and a view then you have found the right spot.

Review 6:The breakfast was really basic. Also the view from the beach on the industrial area is not very nice if you want to relax. It depends on your expectation - we expected nice beach with nice view :-( We did not have the room with sea view, what made also our feeling from the accomodation worse.

Review 7:Very friendly staff, very nice surroundings in the hotel - the relax area and the terrace.

Review 8:Everything with this place is so wrong. Not acually the hotel but the place.... its in a harbour and with big tankers in the water very close to the beach so we didn't want to enter the water. Thank god for the showers on the beach. El Bahía outside Algeciras is really a bad place. Don´t go there! But, it gives you a real reality check on how the world looks today... Im so sorry for the hotel and the surounding restaurants (los chiringuitos with very good food), the beach was good itself with guards, showers and places to buy drinks and icecream, but this is not a nice place to stay. I think they should put up some real photos on the web page where you can see how its really is with all the horrible tankers.

Review 9:Very nice and helpfull staff.

Review 10:A fan without a timer would have been ideal as we had to keep resetting the time during the night every 50 minutes as the room got very hot which caused us to wake up.

Review 11:Photos are taken from all the best possible angles but made it very disappointing. No parking within a km as beach is so busy, view is of a container port and there was no food available even though the hotel houses a beautiful restaurant . Breakfast was appalling and unfriendly. Towels were damp too. Compared to other places we were traveling round to it was the worst value for money for 1 room.

Review 12:If you like quirky or unusual this is great

Review 13:Needed to change rooms as the original room was too small for four of us and it did not face the sea. the changover to a larger room with sea views was effected without any problems.

Review 14:Proximity to the beach.

Review 15:The Place is to far away everything. The Beach is overcrowded by local people, from 10 am to 10/11 pm...

Review 16:The manager is ok, but the service is bad.

Review 17:A band was booked to play on the roof top patio across from our room. They played loud music until after 12 midnight. There was no air conditioning in the room with the windows open we could not sleep.

Review 18:There was free parking. It was right on the beach, but the pictures don't show the barges and Port facilities just offshore

Review 19:No air conditioning, stained sheets, noises and pollution from the harbours, and very old facilities in the room. Specially the bed was very uncomfortable.

Review 20:Proximity to the beach and free parking.

Review 21:No food options. Not easy to access city centre (had to call taxi every time). Beds very uncomfortable. Lots of bugs. Small rooms.

Review 22:They replaced our fan immediately once we let them know it was broken. Easy to get a cab.

Review 23:It was over 40 degrees and there is NO Air Conditioning, the plug in fans just made the room even more hot. Please note this is a hostel not a hotel Beach VERY busy.

Review 24:We had a sea view so location on the beach was excellent, although it is a port so you also get a view of the cranes and container ships.

Review 25:Too far away from city centre

Review 26:Close to the sea, exit from reception is directly to the beach, great personnel, lady on reception very kind, nice and helpful, nice spicy scent in the lobby

Review 27:I liked everything about my 3 night stay and I would certainly go again .

Review 28:The hotel is a wonderful location right of the beach with a magnificent view over the Bay . .

Review 29:public parking difficult to find if a sunny public holiday due to beach goers No lift Local surrounding area in poor presentation

Review 30:Location on the beach Free parking Cooperative staff Still acceptable just be prepared for short comings

Review 31:Breakfast quite limited and no hotel restaurant facilities for other meals. However, there are other restaurants near by.

Review 32:Great location on the beach. Rooms were bright and clean and comfortable, slept like a dream.

Review 33:Very clean, right on the beach, great breakfast, all staff were very hospitable and helped us plan what to see and where to eat, given our time frame.good price, too. And there was parking available!

Review 34:We walked into town once. Don't do it. There is a regular bus L3 and taxis cost 7euros or so.

Review 35:This is a hostal, but the decor and services are excellent value. Our towels and sheets changed daily. The managers and staff are very welcoming. The beach is superb, quiet, with lifeguards, and clean blond sand with safe swimming. There is an amazing view of Gibraltar. The 4 km beach ends in sand dunes with fantastic wild flowers. NB, this an urban beach with a major port at one end and refineries beyond the dunes. But if you like ship watching, and appreciate Spanish locals with few other Europeans, this is a great place. There are several beach restaurants and La Esquinita is one of the best fish restaurants I have ever eaten in. Unbelievably fresh and not expensive! Paradise.

Review 36:Excellent view of Gibraltar, large and very clean beach, good breakfast, friendly staff. Rooms dated but clean. There is some noise from the port near by but nothing too disturbing. Better to have a car as it is long distance from the center. Nice restaurants along the beach.

Review 37:Trek to the third floor. Once again, no lift. The wifi was good but I could only get a signal on the ground floor. To be fair, they do say 'in public areas'.

Review 38:Great location, right next to the beach, with views across to Gib and Algeciras port. Interesting pallet furniture in public areas. Cafe/bar on site. Clean, comfortable room. Free parking.

Review 39:As a tourists, we did not know that the bay of Algeciras is full of heavy industry - oil refinery, 24/7 harbor, etc. and the beach is contaminated according to the local press. The hotel is an old vacation building, and I think the owners do their best to keep it clean and decorated for this location, BUT it is a old building, not isolated, not soundproof (thin walls and same thing whether the window is open or closed) and high humidity with the respective smell. It is nothing for sensitive people and light sleepers. Mosquitos even though the staff provided us with electric raid; high humidity, not isolated windows and extremely loud the whole night because of the harbor. I could not sleep at all and left as early as possible. I mean you do not have endless holidays and as a tourist you rely on pictures and reviews. I think it should be fair indicated that the whole beach is located in an industrial area. Maybe the locals and Spanish people do not mind it, but it is important information for tourists who want to rest and avoid polluted areas.

Review 40:Very friendly staff, decoration, view of Gibraltar, good for one day trip to Gibraltar

Review 41:Maybe a wider variety of breakfast options. .

Review 42:I've been to this place twice now and I completely love it here. It is a hostel is not a luxury hotel but it's fantastic. .great location and super clean would stay again and again. .

Review 43:Hotel is very near the docks noise 24/7 and hotel only has single glazing.

Review 44:Welcoming staff and clean environment . Breakfast continental - not bad. Good coffee .

Review 45:Very poor breakfast (no ham, no cheese, no vegetables, only oranges, yougurt, limited bread), but it is a hostel (not hotel)

Review 46:Location absolutely top. Very nice English speaking owner with good tips on what to visit. No charge for another night 3 days later although my late cancellation! Free public parking. Enough speed of WiFi Nice patio.

Review 47:Needed a restaurant. ( we went end of April, may be we went before the summer season started. ) €30 taxi to Gib. Booking.com said it was approx 5 km from Gib...across the water is 5km!!! Not the hotel's fault...

Review 48:Helpful and friendly staff. Quiet rooms. Location is perfect, Hotel was almost on the beach. Looks straight out to Gibraltar. Will definitly stay again for a chillout, relaxing break.

Review 49:On the beach, could be nice when hot weather, however tankers anchored as neas as can due the fact that this hostel is so near harbour. Not inviting to dip into the sea Also, only one restaurant near and 10mins drive away to the town. Literally nothing to do in the hostel area at the evenings.

Review 50:Suitable for someone who only needs bed to sleep over night, arrive late and leave early.

Review 51:staff in reception didn't speak English breakfast starts at 8:00 AM - too late! only few places for car on parking in front of the hostel

Review 52:location at the beach with great view to Gibraltar

Review 53:Breakfast is very modest, we definitely expected a greater variety of food for that price. Not enough space in family rooms. There is a constant noise (not very loud though) from the harbour nearby.

Review 54:The city itself is not worth visiting it, but the hotel has an excellent location directly on the beach making it a good option to relax after a long day wandering around Gibraltar. Gibraltar is easy to access with a car. Free parking space beside hotel. The hotel is very modest, but still nice, easy going, clean. Good mojito in the caffeteria.

Review 55:Far from food, few facilities, shower tiny tiny and not hot, tv not working, no hairdryer available, no spare blankets, no light in hallway, had to kick all the doors to open them, overpriced.

Review 56:Staff were nice and the view of Gibralter

Review 57:Very small rooms, very basic. Poor quality beds.

Review 58:Good location and friendly staff. Such a nice location, on the beach, but a pity it hasn't been upgraded.

Review 59:If you want to go sightseeing you might be better of with a car. Also when your plane lands in Malaga. This because taxis or very expensive. You can take the bus to go sightseeing but remember buses don't except pets, only in a bench. To Tarifa, Estepona and Malaga it is too far to take a bus.

Review 60:Petfriendly, wonderful views, hotel on the beach. We had Wifi in the room. Clear see water, you can even see some fishes swimming :-)

Review 61:Skimpy breakfast Noisy as hell (bring earplugs to sleep) By midday the beach is full By the end of the day the beach is full of garbage

Review 62:Lovely hotel Beautiful view Paradise for the morning lovers

Review 63:We booked our room the night before arriving and got a fairly small room for four. It worked fine but next time I will be sure to book ahead to get a bigger room.

Review 64:I really enjoyed my stay at El Bahia. It's a lovely little hotel, right on the beach. I would recommend it if you are looking for a place to stay in the area and will surly stay there again. Agreed it's not the most luxury of places but clean and cosy and the staff is really kind and service minded! The beach was full of holidaying Spanish families, not as 'touristy' as the rest of the Costa. The fact that the area caters to a mostly Spanish crowd was something we enjoyed since it's a lovely break from the "McD" and "English breakfast served all day" experience you get in other places along the coast. But it helps to know rudimentary Spanish to avoid surprises for dinner :-D

Review 65:Litlle bit noisy, but ok. Weekends on the beach to busy.

Review 66:Access to the beach is a dream. Newly reconstrated, has ikea feel to it.coffy was superb, the restaurant just infront of it was excellent.

Review 67:Overpriced for the quite basic rooms, beds uncomfortable, no fan in room

Review 68:Great location right on the beach, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, rooms keep quite cool A/C not really needed

Review 69:The mattress was like a rock and the shower room was in desperate need of refurbishment. It was extremely noisy in the plaza outside until 1.30 am which made sleep impossible before that time. Breakfast was very basic but adequate.

Review 70:The Bahia is a good, basic hostal located right on the beach. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There was a splendid view of the Bay of Algeciras from the balcony.

Review 71:Owner. Unfriendly.

Review 72:Location

Review 73:Very poor breakfast. Ugly and noisy industrial surroundings.

Review 74:Good Wifi.

Review 75:Bed was uncomfortable and squeaky.

Review 76:Right on the beach. Could hear the waves lapping in the mornings and evenings.

Review 77:Very noisy beds.

Review 78:Nice view from the hotel to Gibraltar. Fine Beach.

Review 79:Lack of lift to 3rd floor

Review 80:Excellent location right on beach

Review 81:No AC in the room, just a fan Very noisy

Review 82:The view Balcony of the room with table and chairs Nice staff Parking

Review 83:No aircon!

Review 84:Staff and location!

Review 85:NO AIRCODNITION, terrible hot in the room.

Review 86:On the very nice beach.

Review 87:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Recommended great places to eat & visit.

Review 88:no aircon, but it was OK with the windows open all night.

Review 89:right on the sandy beach, and the staff were really helpful

Review 90:No airconditioning, breakfast very simple

Review 91:Location was very good, view from the room, room was clean, atmosphere relaxed

Review 92:small bathroom

Review 93:Gibraltar view

Review 94:Location! Lovely beach and stunning view!

Review 95:L'hotel est situe sur le bord de la mer dans un port. C'est deprimant a l'extreme.

Review 96:The beds were not comfortable.

Review 97:We liked the beach, deck over looking the ocean and the court yard.

Review 98:Beautiful view. Clean airy room with balcony. Friendly staff and management. Not many restaurants in the area.

Review 99:It was clean and comfortable. On the water and relaxing!!

Review 100:Good location, nice and helpful staff. Jó elhelyezkedés, kedves és segítőkész személyzet.

Review 101:mosquitos

Review 102:clean, staff is friendly and very helpful, just feet from the beach

Review 103:Nowhere nearby within walking distance. So not advisable without a car

Review 104:Location on the beach and comfortable bed

Review 105:It was a little too far outside of the main city to walk. But a nice spot anyway.

Review 106:Small and quiet. On the beach. Simple, tidy rooms.

Review 107:Perfect stay Right at the beach Comfortable clean room

Review 108:Friendly staff and good breakfast

Review 109:good parking, great staff

Review 110:too many large ships too close to feel like a holiday setting

Review 111:the staff and local people were friendly, especially helpful were the police

Review 112:Nothing

Review 113:Staff. Rooms location. Pool. Service

Review 114:location

Review 115:Terrible pillows. Old Windows let us hear all the noise in the street..

Review 116:Excellent location!!!!

Review 117:Parking is a bit difficult.

Review 118:Friendly staff. Located directly at the beach. Sunloungers included. Room with nice balcony.

Review 119:no air condition, lots of ants in the room

Review 120:free parking, view, close to the beach

Review 121:The cafe, the whole house

Review 122:Really nice people - the owner especially was very obliging.

Review 123:Room was not that clean - dusty ground, location a bit too far from the city.

Review 124:Pet friendly place, nice location - right at the beach and with a good view to the Gibraltar, also free parking very close.

Review 125:My credit card was debited a day before my cancellation deadline. When i arrived at the hotel to check in, I was asked for full payment for my whole stay, I queried this and they were very insistent. Then I was handed 2 pages of rules and regulations in very officious language about all the extra costs that may be incurred, late arrival, lost key etc. Very poor customer service.

Review 126:Location. Really can't complain for the price. Fantastic wifi.

Review 127:No soaps in the bathroom. Other than that, great!

Review 128:Right on the beach. Great location and fine staff. Very helpful and willing to make our stay comfortable.

Review 129:There was a bad smell in the room, right before we enter they were using a spray to hide a little the smell. The rooms are not at all isolated, you can hear noise from other rooms or from outside, or when people talk in the hall. We couldn't sleep so well, but we can't complain. For the value we paid it is ok.

Review 130:We spend 2 days at El Bahia, the beach right in front of the hotel is great, gold sand and nice view of Gibraltar. The location of the hotel is one positive aspect, as well as the amability of the staff. The room was clean and the hotel is clean also. In general is ok, for a few days only...

Review 131:THE WIND - AND NOISE FROM CONTAINER PORT

Review 132:Friendliness of staff, very basic hotel but pleasant atmosphere and good views of the Rock. Car park next to hotel, as well as restaurant/bar.
