Reviews for Best Western Plus Hôtel Des Puys
Review 1:The so called balcony was a narrow dirty space overlooking the square where a deranged man was ranting and raving. Every surface in the room was covered in dust.
Review 2:We had an excellent dinner in the restaurant. The hotel is within walking distance of the Romanesque Basilica of Notre-Dame du Port and the Gothic cathedral. The breakfast on panoramic rooftop was good.
Review 3:Nothing.
Review 4:Great location, room, restaurant, parking, breakfast, bathroom and overall design, but particularly in the room. Cleanliness and comfort excellent throughout - one of the best value hotels I have ever stayed in and could probably sell itself as a 4-Star. Staff were very good and both our pre-booking requests were met.
Review 5:Breakfast is too expensive compared with available choices (no croissant and we're in France, just orange juice). Garage height limited to 1.90m is a real weakness. We had to park in Cathedral parking (limited to 2.00m) that is around 1km away - not good when it's raining
Review 6:hotel is very modern with dedicated Nespresso machine in the room. Free bottle of water is always needed. position is very good for exploring the city center
Review 7:No customer service . . . there was no food when we arrived forbreakfast, we were ignored, the table was not set-up - I had to keepasking for cuttlery, plates, bowls, cups, glasses, food, etc. . . samething happened the night before when we went to the restaurant fordinner, so we left and found somewhere else to eat. Not good at all.
Review 8:Convenient location
Review 9:Parking was a real issue. Website states secure parking, which is ok if you can get into it. I drive a 4x4 with a roofbox on top for a family of 5 holiday to the south of France, so need the storage space, hence the 4x4 and roofbox. There was no mention of a height restriction, so went ahead and booked hotel. Only problem was we couldnt get into the car park, as height restriction is 1.9m, my car is 2.1m with roofbox. Being in the town centre we struggled to find parking, so had to park for the night in a tow away zone and had to keep fingers crossed and hope for the best. Luckily the car was still outside the hotel in the morning and we were able to continue our journey with no further problems.
Review 10:While we were there the lobby and reception areas were a mess because the hotel was installing a second elevator. Breakfast was too expensive, but that is becoming the trend throughout France -- the hotels price their breakfasts like everyone is staying on a company expense account. You can still find good hotels that charge 10€ or less for an adequate breakfast, but they are becoming few and far between.
Review 11:We stayed in the Clermont-Ferrand hotel for two night's and found everything about the hotel adequate, except for the condition of the lobby. On-site parking, although an extra charge, was appreciated. There was nothing special, however, about this hotel that would make me go out of my way to recommend it to fellow tourists. Reminded me of a typical businessman's lodging.
Review 12:Rundown side of old town. New lift being installed which meant foyer like building site but worst of all was dreadful evening meal in restaurant.
Review 13:Hotel very comfortable with good staff
Review 14:During our visit only one lift worked and the hotel was full! The wifi was inoperative and could not be fixed over the weekend. The phone in the room did not work making contact with others in our party difficult as they were two floors away and the restaurant was closed for the whole weekend we were at the hotel. Finally, despite saying they would not, reception took the money from the card we used for booking the reservation, which was not the one we wanted to use for payment. If all these issues were resolved I would go back but not unless this was the case.
Review 15:bed comfort n of hotel
Review 16:Without a doubt the scenic view from the breakfast room situated on the sixth floor of the hotel is spectacular! There was an excellent choice at breakfast time including scrambled egg and bacon, which is unusual in France. This hotel which is conveniently situated in the centre of the city is highly recommended.
Review 17:The wifi connection dropped all the time. As it was a business trip, this bothered me a lot.
Review 18:The breakfast area is very nice, comfortable rooms, good bed. Overall a very nice hotel
Review 19:The direct area the hotel is in, is not the greatest. The staff was aware the hotel would be going through construction work sometime in the a.m. They, however, didn't tell us. Drilling, hammering, and banging kicked off bright and early at 8 a.m., although checkout was not until 12. I complained to the front desk and they acted like it was nothing, although they said it usually starts at 9 a.m. I wound up getting my parking reimbursed. Unless you want to eat fast food or the relatively expensive hotel restaurant, there aren't many other options.
Review 20:It seems they went through a remodel not too long ago- rooms were modern and clean. The balcony overlooking the church in the distance was nice but had no chairs. Thanks for the free bottle of water, tea, and use of Nespresso machine- not often found in Europe!
Review 21:There is no wall between the bathroom and the bedroom (only a ridiculous curtain that you can pull down) which means that you do not have much privacy when taking a shower. The toilet was separate though. For the wi-fi you had to give a lot of personal details, so you wouldn't bother using it. The parking is very narrow so you easily scratch your car unless it's tiny.
Review 22:The location was great.
Review 23:small rooms, even the premium/superior ones (which are too expensive). I don't know who was the brain behind the idea of renovating the room and keeping the sink and the shower in the room (it is enough space to have it separated), without proper ventilation!!! The mini-bar didn't cool enough.
Review 24:good bed, very good pillows! Good location, close to the old town and the tram station.
Review 25:Have to get used to no hotel restaurants on Sundays, but no problem in this city.
Review 26:Very helpful reception with regard to early parking of the car and checking in.
Review 27:We had to take our top box off the car as it did not fit in the garage but the staff were most helpful and even helped us to carry it in to the hotel!
Review 28:It was Dog friendly!
Review 29:Nothing
Review 30:The location of the hotel was perfect, right in the centre if town. Rooms where big, clean and had a nice view if the town square. Parking was secure send there was a safe store room for our bikes, will deffinatly be staying here again
Review 31:It is in a very run down area. We didn,t feel safe outside the hotel. It is in a small square and outside the hotel seemed to be the gathering point for drunks and druggies. Food expensive for what you get. Renovation work still ongoing on roof terrace, workman always in lift, so had to use stairs quite a lot. On 5th floor. No replacement of coffee, toilet rolls etc. What seemed to be the caretaker, who we saw emptying bins one minute, was in the breakfast room arranging food. Very off putting.
Review 32:Friendly staff, lovely clean room. Recentlely refurbished to a very good standard. Great view from room of city and Puy de Dome in distance.
Review 33:Comfortable room. Quiet despite facing the main road. Nice facilities. Kettle and coffee machine in the room. Wifi excellent. Nice bed. Walking distance from city center/downtown/restaurants. Excellent for a short stay in this city. Parking underground, safe and reasonably priced. Breakfast available at the hotel or nearby coffee shops.
Review 34:The aircon was broken for three days during the visit. The staff did not apologise for the fact, offer a discount or any other remediation. When I complained I was moved to different room, which was a different type - I was effectively downgraded. When I left they still charge me for the superior room and tried to charge me for breakfast in did not have. This was my third time of staying at this hotel and my last.
Review 35:Good location. Good views. Nice food.
Review 36:very tight ramp in underground parking, avoid if you have a big car!
Review 37:Bar shut at 10pm
Review 38:Comfortable Hotel
Review 39:underground parking with elevator up into hotel lobby & room. adjacency of hotel to city square
Review 40:Not a city that we would normally visit, driving through but it turned out to be an excellent experience.
Review 41:What a superb hotel - quiet, comfortable, excellent breakfast, helpful staff, good location, fantastic view from roof terrace.
Review 42:Noisy location. Homeless in the courtyard in front of the hotel.
Review 43:Great location near downtown. Clean comfortable rooms
Review 44:Great location!
Review 45:the restaurant was dire
Review 46:fine hotel being restructured, but our room fine
Review 47:2nd visit & will be back.... Excellent hotel
Review 48:"Suite" consisted of small walk-in area, no bathtub, soft bed, poor internet connection; claustrophobic feel. Need to get new bed(s)!
Review 49:Staff
Review 50:The wifi was too slow
Review 51:I liked the location, the room was clean and nice
Review 52:Friendly staff. Modern decor. Free tea and coffee machine in rooms. Free wifi. Large, comfortable bed with extra pillows....
Review 53:Hotel was under renovations But there was no disturbances to the guests
Review 54:Cost of breakfast was very high.
Review 55:Convenience for a stop off.
Review 56:Hotel correct, avec un bon pris.
Review 57:Great location
Review 58:Restaurant was closed and not enough shelf space for clothes.
Review 59:Bed comfort and view.
Review 60:off-street parking coffee-making equipment quiet room on higher floor requested, and provided
Review 61:Comfortable room, good size, lovely view
Review 62:nothing
Review 63:room design, location, staff, breakfast on rooftop terrace with great view
Review 64:WC pretty small!
Review 65:The sight from the terrace! Rooms clean and confortable
Review 66:Breakfast room a little bit too small when all the guests arrive at the same time.
Review 67:Very open for young children. Breakfast was nice.
Review 68:Very stylish rooms with attention to detail and very comfortable. Well situated not far by foot from old town.
Review 69:No English t.v channels
Review 70:dirty and used lavatory on arrival
Review 71:good room with balcony on fourth floor with great views of the city from the roof terrace.
Review 72:Road noise meant too hot at night or too noisy with windows open
Review 73:Friendly staff. Very good food.
Review 74:Tiny room
Review 75:Not much
Review 76:Breakfast expensive.
Review 77:Coffee machine.
Review 78:Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.
Review 79:At the time of our visit the breakfast restaurant was out-of-bounds due to extensive restoration which precluded the rather promoted roof top views over Clermont-Ferrand.
Review 80:Our rooms were very comfortable and excellent sound-proofing considering location. Also coffee/tea facilities which can be rather rare in France. Staff extremely helpful and welcoming.
Review 81:Rooms a bit basic with some kitch decoration in bedrooms. The breakfast was good but should have been done in restaurant on ground floor and not at the back in a windowless area.
Review 82:Reasonably good location for on foot sight seeing
Review 83:The location was good and for the price we paid in an otherwise off the usual tourist trip 'map' place to visit we thought we got great value for money. The room was clean and of an acceptable size. If you want a short stay and don't plan to spend much time in the room itself then this is the hotel for you. No complaints at all even though we were there for a rugby game and many other fans stayed there too there was no noise at night and the staff were happy to help with taxi bookings and general travel advice.
Review 84:The hotel is comfortable, well maintained. Good location for those on car and is close to downtown on foot. The staff is very friendly. It was my second time there.
Review 85:None.
Review 86:The night staff who served us was very helpful. She speaks good English and pointed us to the town Xmas carnival and where we could find eateries. Overall friendly staff, with secured parking and nice clean place to stay
Review 87:Reception staff were ok. the bar/waitress wasn't, she was dealing with 3 tables but still managed to take time to take our drinks order, then forgot them, then decided to try and rush us and clearly made it know she wasn't happy....perhaps hospitality isn't for you?!
Review 88:onsite parking and good sized room.
Review 89:The Wi-Fi was off for a couple of days, then when it was working wasn't good in the room, although it was better in the lobby. It's very annoying to get the connection cut half way through an email, when you're travelling for work.
Review 90:The view from the breakfast room is stunning, and the breakfast's ok too. Room comfortable with coffee, safe, etc. Staff helpful and pleasant. Safe underground parking.
Review 91:The restaurant pricing for breakfast seems very steep. I booked 4 breakfasts then saw in the room that for 14 Euro each you get a coffee, Juice, a croissant, butter and jam... Cancelled this once i realised this.
Review 92:The Hotel is located right on the edge of the Old City and is very clean. It was especially good that there is an Underground car park on site to use. The Family Suite we stayed in was modern and well appointed. The staff were very friendly and easy to deal with.
Review 93:Drunks gather in the square outside the hotel.
Review 94:Great family room but if you have young children it's worth packing a bed rail to stop them falling out of bed. Good safe underground parking. Food OK in restaurant and a good option as Clermont-ferrand in general had a lot of people hanging around so with a young family we didn't feel comfortable and also felt that most of the places in the centre were for drinking with food secondary. Perfect mid point stop with family if travelling further south but personally I wouldn't leave the hotel.
Review 95:The on site parking was limited although it was easy to find a public parking space nearby.
Review 96:We enjoyed the value for money and the very helpful and friendly staff. Also the proximity of the hotel to many good restaurants and bars.
Review 97:No AC - No restaurant Water heater for hot beverages over complicated -no instructions. It was known that maintenance works would interfere extensively with the facilities - but we were not told this when we booked.
Review 98:Fine view over the city from the breakfast room.
Review 99:Central but in a rough area of the city New but shoddy fittings in the room. Air con didnt work. Room too hot but couldn't leave window open as too noisy outside.
Review 100:Underground car park for motorbikes Beautiful view from 6th floor Good breakfast
Review 101:Everything. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the terrace had beautiful views over the old town of Clermont Ferrand.
Review 102:Slight smell of smoking - ? on linen.
Review 103:We loved our stay at this hotel and hope to stay there again when en-route further south.Parking on-site is also an added bonus.
Review 104:Canal plus only showed matches involving French teams so I couldn't watch the Munster v Saracens game. More importantly, they didn't have Sky Sports.
Review 105:They had Canal plus for rugby. I was on a rugby trip. Superb panorama from the breakfast room. Vg breakfast.
Review 106:Checking in and out was very slow
Review 107:Great Location room ok a bit tired but overlooking the square. There was a lot of work going on on the 3rd floor so obviously they are updating.
Review 108:The wardrobe was very small with only enough room a couple of days clothes. My smart [medium length] dress trailed on the wardrobe's bottom.
Review 109:The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a locked garage with plenty of space for cars, attached to the hotel. The hotel is on the edge of the old part of Clermont-Ferrand so walking around the centre of the town is very easy. My room was spacious and the bed comfortable.
Review 110:We were informed that the room would be air-conditioned; it was not, but the window did open. There is a busy square in front of the hotel, take earplugs. The promised Nespresso machine was there, the capsules were not. Two sachets of instant hot chocolate aren't much of a substitute when making an early start and in need of caffeine.
Review 111:Room a decent size and adequately furnished, though a large mirror propped against a wall may not be a child-friendly option.
Review 112:nothing - if they refurbish all rooms (ours had not been but others nearby had) then this hotel could charge considerably more. I just hope it doesn't!
Review 113:very friendly and helpful staff. breakfast served on top floor with panoramic views was a delight and a real differentail from the normal French breakfast offering. beds far more comfortable than many hotels charging far higher prices - neither too hard nor too soft.
Review 114:No bath. Didn't try the breakfast so cannot comment on that
Review 115:A good quality hotel, comfy bed and hot shower. Location excellent. The city is a good stop off point between Barcelona and Calais. Over the other side of a small square at the front of the hotel it is only a short walk to the Cathedral and the old town with lovely shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Will spend longer in the City next time and will stay at this hotel.
Review 116:The room was in need of redecoration to to brighten it up.
Review 117:The views from the terrace were spectacular. Cheap on-site parking. Nice square in front of hotel. Attractive reception area.
Review 118:Air con not very effective and perfume to conceal smoke can be a put off for non smokers.
Review 119:Close to town center. Very nice reception (staff) and downstairs floor. Private parking a plus (although not free). Clean room and spacious enough to put a carry-cot.
Review 120:Staff was not well informed on several issues and local attractions, socheck their "information".
Review 121:This hotel really grows on you. The breakfast is held in a rooftopgarden with great views of the nearby mountains. The included breakfasthad orange juice which you made from oranges you squeezed yourself. Itwas plentiful and tasty. The city location is a moderate walk to gooddining, but not too far. Parking is very secure and convenient. Drivingto the Dom du Puy is not very far and worth the trip. Take the train tothe top for great views.
Review 122:Becoming slightly shabby and in need of some maintenance, decoration etc.
Review 123:Very convenient location for the historic centre. Convenient undergroundcar parking. Wonderful views from top-floor breakfast terrace.
Review 124:Family room advertised as follows: Composed by 2 rooms side by side RoomSize: 40 square metres Bed Size(s): 2 Single, 1 Large double. In reality tow separate rooms.....
Review 125:It was located in an area that didnot feel entirely safe due to the presence of beggars and alcoholics.
Review 126:The dinng room location on 6th floor and the view from our bedroom of the cathedral skyline on the 4th floor. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 127:Room was good, own garage is an advantage. reception staff friendly and helpfull.
Review 128:Nice room and friendly staff. Restaurant was already closed for 4 days, which was not mentioned. Wi-Fi poor, not stable at all.
