Reviews for Cuevas Abuelo Ventura

Review 1:Could be very hard to find after dark, luckily we made it in daytime

Review 2:Unique facikities (caves), and wonderful welcome from the staff. We were pleasantly surprised how warm the caves are naturally.

Review 3:The place was almost impossible to find! We were using GPS, but all we found at the given address was a sign telling that the hotel was supposed to be somewhere in the neighbourhood! A sign showing which direction to drive would have been most helpful.

Review 4:Nothing. Would go again.

Review 5:Unique experience, fabulous views from several terraces of this amazing landscape. Marie Carmen is a very welcoming host and brilliant cook. Evening meal was delicious, accompanied by excellent wine. Brilliant value.

Review 6:The mini fridge did not work and although the staff said it would be replaced it was not. This was a minor inconvenience and would certainly not prevent a repeat visit.

Review 7:Staying in the caves was a unique experience. Maria Carmen, the owner and chef was so accommodating and a great cook. Some of the best food during our entire trip through Spain was at the Cuevas. Highly recommend Cuevas Abuelo Ventura for those who want to experience something a bit different from the usual hotel/location.

Review 8:Could do with some new furnishings but beds are very good. Swimming pool is out of order and needs repair. We guess they don't have much money to do repairs but then it is very cheap to stay there.

Review 9:It is very different and you are made so welcome. Our second visit and we love the place.

Review 10:There are loose tiles in the pool and I cut my big toe, Matxelan cleaned it for me and then took me to the local hospital where they again cleaned it and gave me a tetanus jab.

Review 11:The caves are fantastic, very cool inside and set in an idyllic spot. The manager Matxelan was so charming and helpful.

Review 12:We're do we start !!!! Directions to hotel appalling. Pool & pool shower very dirty discusting possible dangerous. Dogs a nuisance, dinner OK but nothing special. Cave room clean but very basic, no lighting in evening or sun loungers to lay out , seats made of pallets. Will never return.

Review 13:Not much, but white wine & gin & tonic good. The lady at reception was very helpful & attentive.

Review 14:Everythings. The owners are very friendly and she cooked a nice dinner for us as well as breakfast . We will recommand to our friends and will stay there again.

Review 15:small problem with navigation system which said we were there when we were not. One sign would cure the problem

Review 16:We liked the whole idea of sleeping in a cave, almost isolated but still close to the town. Owners helpfull and breakfast good. Go on, try it out !

Review 17:Make sure the water heater in the bathroom is plugged in when you arrive, otherwise you could be in for a cold shower.

Review 18:Off the beaten track and real Spain. Don't go if you want 5 star luxury, but if you want an experience that will take your breath away then this is the one. Unbelievable value for money, great staff and authentic food and then there's the views. The whole experience is surreal.

Review 19:GPS could not find the location but staff came to collect us

Review 20:The uniqueness, something a little different yet very comfortable. Breakfast Lovely friendly staff who could not do,enough for you

Review 21:This is a little bit off the beaten track.

Review 22:I loved this place and I was really well looked after. It was the end of the season so very quiet, but the staff were helpful and attentive. I was on a cycling tour and was able to park my bike securely in my room. Fantastic views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range from the front door.

Review 23:The caves are nicely decorated and easily fits a family with snall children (1-2 years). The staff/owners were extremly hospital. There is also a small "zoo" at the hotel. Really good value for money.

Review 24:The hotel is very difficult to find we had to ask about five different people for directions and it took us about one hour after our arrival in Gaudix to find it and then we were too far away from the town so had to get back in the car to go and look around and get something to eat and promptly got lost again!!! We had to go into the bar or reception area to use our I pad as of course we had no wi fi in a cave.

Review 25:The room we stayed in was set up above the main part of the hotel and as we had our dog with us it was very good as he was not distracted by noise as the setting was very quiet and peaceful. Although the room was basically furnished the beds were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was continental but enough choice. We enjoyed our stay there. The town is worth looking around, you can get a little map in the hotel.

Review 26:I came to Guadix by bus so therefore I needed to walk to the hotel and it was a bit far without many signs or markings. However after some walking I did find it. The only other thing I can think of was that the tv didn't work but that isn't why I went on the trip anyways so I didn't really mind.

Review 27:Loved the views from the hotel, the room was nice and quiet. It was a comfortable temperature and the hot water for the shower was a bonus. The staff was really nice as well and the included breakfast was much more than I expected. Plus having a covered pool never hurts.

Review 28:not easy to find, at least for me, but with a little help of locals I found it

Review 29:Very helpful and hospitable staff helped me to feel truly welcome. Location of the place is fantastic - very quiet with beautiful view on nature around, only 15 minutes walk from city center. Unique accommodation in comfortable cave. Diversified and tasty breakfast. Very good value for money. Regret, it was only one night.

Review 30:We arranged breakfast for 9.00, but the hotel reception and dining room were locked with no staff on site. Waited until 9.30 but than had to leave without breakfast.

Review 31:Fabulous views. Evening meal very good.

Review 32:Difficult to find, co-ordinates would help.

Review 33:Excellent food, friendly and cooperative staff, the pool, the view, how peaceful it was and within a 10 minute drive of Guadix

Review 34:The general impression was that it was all a bit run down and needed updating. The breakfast was not wonderful, very basic

Review 35:The position and views were great and the cave was very comfortable and spacious.

Review 36:Excellent and friendly staff, beautiful towns around. Country side hotel, a nice place to bring children.

Review 37:This cave hotel is a for real. Still very clean and comfortable with friendly staff. The restaurant is good too. Good value for money

Review 38:The qwerkiness of the location/accommodation. The fabulous owners.

Review 39:Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food.

Review 40:Menu.

Review 41:Captures a rural flintstone kind of atmosphere.

Review 42:No wifi in the rooms, but very good in common areas

Review 43:The service was exceptional, the accommodation was a unique experience

Review 44:Can't think of anything.

Review 45:Location. Views. Unique experience. Friendly staff. Comfort. Value for money.

Review 46:Staff just lovely. Very spoilt with meals and service. We will stay again. gracias.

Review 47:Hotel was very poorly signposted.

Review 48:Food was, excellent value. Beautiful spot.

Review 49:The caves are cold and humid. Location a bit hard to find, specially if you don't speak spanish. Locals are willing to guide you, they all know the hotel location.

Review 50:The staff very helpful. If you like something different stay there.

Review 51:What a great place once you FIND it. Garmin GPS was a total fail on this one. Entering the given street name and number will take you around in circles. If you enter TORREMOLINOS 44 you will have better luck. You will be on a narrow, winding, two lane road and it will appear that you have left town. Do NOT turn back. You will see the tall iron entrance gate a little further ahead on your right. I had Cave 7 on the upper level and it was amazing! There is a small sitting room with TV which leads into a good sized twin bedded room. Bed was very comfortable and I slept like a ROCK. Bathroom is narrow, but long. Shower worked well, and there was plenty of hot water. There are portable electric heaters in both the bedroom and the bath. If you are like me, you will take lots of pictures of both the inside and the outside of your cave! The two hotel dogs were very friendly and came right into my room with me. The cave district with its visitor center is very interesting to wander about. Don't miss the nearby hermitage which has an amazing display of manger scenes, many with a cave theme.

Review 52:It is the first time we have stayed in a cave house; the bedroom was dark and not suitable for us. This is not to say that it would not suit other people. I think young families would enjoy the cave houses and there was an indoor pool for children to enjoy.

Review 53:The staff were friendly and helpful. We had two meals whilst there and both were of good quality and tasty. Pets are allowed and we took our dog, this was the main reason we stayed here. The was a nice family friendly atmosophere and we sat on the terrace in the evening and enjoyed the views of the snow caped mountains whilst eating our meal.

Review 54:It is not in the main cave and if you haven't the navigator is a bitof a challenge to find. There is always (see other reviews) some work inprogress in the cave: when we went there there were two excavators andsome mountains of sand and gravel. But nothing could ruin this magicexperience.

Review 55:It's very relaxing and beatiful place. Is, as all the caves in theareas, a little bit outhside the city (Guadix) I loved to stay there! Some reviews are too strict!! Extremely strict for what we find! Therooms are clean and comfortamble. The have 2 floors (the best one is theupper one for the view of the sierra nevada). If you find it on sale isan experience that you can't loose! Between the various caves in theareas is surely the cheapest and you have not to pretend too much, buteverything was ok form us!! Awesome view from the rooms inside themountain. The dining is very simple and not pretentious but good andcheap! The same for the breakfast. You wont find any tipical spanishplate, but everything is really ok!!

Review 56:Futher nothing was good. I was there for several years ago, we did had agreat time then, but nothing is the same any more. New owner..i can notsay it is an hotel, but only a disco-restaurant. -Although thehotelfotos are nice, you realy wil be very disappointed. We did not feelwelcom. -The rooms very foul smell, stuffy. Al lot of flies in therooms. We saw many rooms. We got at last an other room. -Swimmingpooldirty. You have to pay if you are not a guest, but no one did. You cannot control this. We where the only guests but the pool was full. WholeGuadix game to swim..the pool was in a bad state. The foto gives you thewrong idee. -The male owner has compleet, totaly not the feeling how torun a hotel, how to welcom his guests. He only is very bussy how to getmoney in a very easy way and short time. How? To put big partytents atjumpingmattress in the yard and loud music upon late at night! This isvery bad if you want to sleep. At 9 pm suddenly there is notelevisionsignal any more every night, so you have to go outside forentertainment and drinks. Very clever! But not clever enough.. -If youmade a complaint to the male-owner brushed it aside with insignificantexcusses. -The male-owner has a boy child who is very unplessant, awkward to the guests and animals who are in the hotelyard. -In themorning we want to check out there was no one there. I had to call thehotel ! allthough he came quickly he did not ask anything about ourstay. No interest at all. -I think this hotel will no last one year. Wewill never, ever go there again.

Review 57:The view is nice, you see the mountains, but this time the owner didfound it apparently necessary to put upon 5 meter of the appartment 6big partytents and a jumping mattress. Perhaps to earn more moneybecause of problems in spain at the moment. Very noicy until 2 am !! -the female-owner is nice but you see her not much unfortunately.

Review 58:Cave smelly and damp.place needed maintenance.eg pool notavailable, needed cleaning.gardens had been left to get very untidyand weedy.
