Reviews for Cuevas Pedro Antonio de Alarcon

Review 1:The heat was not turned on until 6PM - and once we had to ask for it at 7PM - it was COLD. The food in the restaurant was not good. The shower was broken. The staff didn't seem to care if anything was good or not. Very disappointing. I realize it was off season, but perhaps they should not open if they are not prepared for guests.

Review 2:The room itself was nice. There was free parking. Guadix was an interesting town in a beautiful setting.

Review 3:Water in bathroom.wasted as it takes so long for hot to run through. Restaurant offers basic Spanish breakfast and daily meals...OK but not varied or to international tastes for most.

Review 4:Delightful cave houses...rustic but really cosy. Easy to find and staff helpful. Very different and a pleasant change from usual B&Bs.

Review 5:Had a problem finding it - need more details on the website please.

Review 6:The wonderful experience of staying in a cave! We had used this as a one night stopover, so location (just off motorway outside Granada) was perfect. Lounge and kitchen area were a nice surprise.

Review 7:The hill up to our cave!! Lol!

Review 8:Novel way to spend the night!! No English spoken but staff willing to listen to our very poor efforts at Spanish!! Good fun. Restaurant was good, both food & staff! Excellent value all round.

Review 9:Lots of flies in the room. Fortunately I'd packed some fly spray so gave them all a dose! Bathroom was a little smelly and took an awfully long time before hot water started to flow through. You need to leave the taps running for quite some time. Not particularly easy to find but OK if you use Google maps. Out of town.

Review 10:It really was a great experience staying in a cave house. Bit like The Flinstones! My 'house' (no.23) had a living room, twin bedded room, kitchen complete with fridge/freezer, cooker and microwave, double bedded bedroom and large bathroom. Excellent value at €45 for dinner, bed and breakfast. Dinner was nothing to shout about but perfectly edible. Staff were very helpful, though none could speak English at all. Thank goodness for Google Translate! Hostess even said I could park my motorcycle in the room if I wanted! Rooms were cool but warm enough at night. I wasn't aware of any traffic noise at all. Slept like a baby! Would go back...

Review 11:Nothing.

Review 12:This is an amazing experience, staying in your own cave. But this is a luxury cave. It was huge with bathroom, kitchen, living room and two bedrooms! Its a few kms outside of Guadix but well signposted and easy to find. Not much happening on site when I was there but you can pop into Guadix for bars/restaurants etc. Evening meal and breakfast was included in the price.

Review 13:Moisty in the rooms and moist smell. Very close to the highway with a lot of traffic noise. Food was of poor quality. Old-fashioned interior and ready for renovation.

Review 14:Original and authentic

Review 15:Evn thought i had made a reservation my room on arrival did not have any heating turned on. I had to ask for this. The shoer did not function and the hot water was very limited. Even had a notice in the bathroom aplogizing for any delay in hot water supply?? I went to the resaurant at 0905am only to find it closed and also the reception was still closed at that hour in spite of the horario stating that both would be open at 0900. I left my key in the door to my cave??

Review 16:The restaurant was ok with friendly staff and very good value evening meal.

Review 17:Would have liked clean towels using the same towels for 3 days not ideal.

Review 18:A unique experience caves better than we expected. Nicely set out. Halfboard excellent value, quality and choice of food very good.

Review 19:The dining area was not quite as nice as it could have been

Review 20:Many, if not all, of the rooms of this hotel are built into the side of a hill and thus into a cave. There a few if any windows. A very interesting way to spend a night!

Review 21:It's so close to the highway, very noisy.

Review 22:The cave is really nice, with own small yard in front of it. Traditional Spanish accessories in the apartment add to the atmosphere. It's really cold inside which is perfect in the middle of the summer. Big swimming pool. Tasty food in the restaurant.

Review 23:Our cave was overcrowded by using too large furniture.Of the 5 lights in our bedroom, only 2 had bulbs, only one of which worked. Outside furniture and clothes dryer needed replacing. The office was closed when we arrived and no-one answered the telephone which should have been manned when the office was closed. We were then asked for payment in advance. Restaurant for dinner, which was included in the price, was supposed to open at 8.00pm but staff did not arrive until 8.45pm. It was also still closed at 10.00am the following morning for breakfast, which should have been available from 9.00am.

Review 24:This is a quirky hotel, with reasonable facilities but spoiled by the attitude of the staff.

Review 25:We had a fantastic time at the caves, the staff were friendly and couldn't do any more for you, it was a fantastic experience. Rooms and facilities were clean and decor was in keeping with the type of accommodation booked.

Review 26:No wifi in bar as stated

Review 27:Cave was very clean. Nice bed and excellent facilities in cave

Review 28:Hotel located just next to highway. Staff speaking only Spanish is a trouble when you need to fix any problem.

Review 29:interesting accomodation

Review 30:Loved the quirky rooms and plenty of space in ours. Great value half-board option with fairly basic but good quality food.

Review 31:Nothing to say interesting excursion

Review 32:The rooms and the pool

Review 33:The actual cave. 3rd time we have visited, always good.

Review 34:The cave motel was very comfortable. It was clean, roomy, a perfect temperature, and despite being adjacent to a busy highway, it was very quiet.

Review 35:only Wifi at reception

Review 36:great people , excellent experince to sleep in a cave accomodation , great hospitality and fanstic value for money

Review 37:Lack of a kettle!

Review 38:Staff in the restaurant absolutely superb. Views to die for. Whole experience

Review 39:trafic from highroad traditionel spanish restaurant

Review 40:original, appartements build in the mountins grill outside traditionel spanish restaurant

Review 41:Enjoyed the experience of staying in a cave house.

Review 42:too close to main highway , a little isolated from the town

Review 43:the novelty of the cave dwellings

Review 44:got lost getting there

Review 45:Cave and meal good vaue

Review 46:We liked everything about it - a really magical place to stay - my 6th visit!

Review 47:The swimming pool was closed for no other reason then that there were not enough guests. We had dinner but did not like the quality of the food.

Review 48:Close to the motorway we slept in out own cave, an appartment. However hot it is outside, it is cool inside. Close to Guadix, a nice little town.

Review 49:We were freezing as the heating was not on ,we had a party of youngsters next door who played music so load we couldn't sleep. It went on until 4.30 am so no fun there

Review 50:We loved the location

Review 51:We are very early birds and like to eat breakfast at seven in the morning, that was not possible, which was a shame! Also the restaurant is a little basic, but the red organic wine with Shiraz and there other grapes, is stunning!!! Heating basic but warm enough the following days! Peter, Manchester

Review 52:It was a unique experience to find our bedrooms, bathroom and dining room facilities in a cave! Just fantastic! Be aware, should you be afraid for compled darkness at night, the place is maybe not for you!

Review 53:Kitchen utensils almost non-existent. No kettle so had to boil water in a saucepan for tea and coffee. Microwave at a stupidly high level and in a silly place. No tv channels other than Spoanish. Fridge not cleaned properly after other people had used it. Hot water supply ludicrous. We had to run off enough water (cold) to fill a small swimming pool before any warm/hot water came through. This was most inconvenient for bathing/showering/washing up. We were told by the staff to do this. We live in Spain and know how precious water is. Central heating didn`t come on until we went to the Reception and asked to have it put on.

Review 54:The bedding was nice and comfortable. The idea of living in a cave for 3 nights was good.

Review 55:Sign-posting to the establishment is poor (my SatNav could not find the address either). So finding the place was a bit of a problem.

Review 56:The rooms were clean, comfortable and just right for weary travellers. The setting is first rate -- historical cave dwellings up-dated by clever revamping. The on-site restaurant was friendly, and had a good menu.

Review 57:Staff let us choose which cave we wanted (No5 was fantastic) Logs for open fire provided, restaurant at the end of the road was fabulous. Cave much lighter than would have expected.

Review 58:All a bit dated.

Review 59:Guadix is famous for its cave houses; at Pedro Antonio de Alarcon, you can stay in your very own cave!

Review 60:hot water bit erratic

Review 61:the uniqueness of a cave

Review 62:The pool had been left to deteriorate

Review 63:The experience of sleeping in a cave

Review 64:very cold but would be OK in the summer.A lot of road noise all of the time

Review 65:Cave clean

Review 66:Two of the 3 rooms did not have any hot water. Many lights didn'twork. When mentioned to reception there was no interest.

Review 67:Hotel Restaurant was very basic - would not use it again. Having to pay 10 euros for a bag of wood !

Review 68:Cave was very spacious and very cosy.
