Reviews for Globales Reina Cristina
Review 1:No coffee in the room, only descafeinado! No basic information in the room: about use of the telephone, hotel facilities (where breakfast is served), history of this historic hotel. No safety handle to hold on to when getting in and out of the shower. Poor English in note from chambermaid which read "it is a pleasure for me to take of your room". This is gibberish. Por favor, sí no sabe inglés ponga castellano.
Review 2:Comfortable room, well located hotel.
Review 3:Neighboring area doesn't have good points of interest.
Review 4:Parking space included for free, quiet area, all rooms have a balcony, outside garden surrounding all of the hotel, big room. Ideal hotel if you also want to take a ferry to Ceuta or Tanger.
Review 5:It was an amazing find for the price we paid! Plus, it was only a 5 minute taxi to the ferry terminal the next morning. The property is amazing, as is the rest of the hotel.
Review 6:room a bit noisy from the hotel ventilation system. Also no provision in bathroom to hang a robe or other clothing (room 341)
Review 7:the vintage building style and the gardens
Review 8:Proper Victorian/Edwardian hotel with large bedrooms, high ceilings and nostalgic good old fashioned atmosphere and service. We both look forward to returning one day and staying for longer.
Review 9:The hotel should improve on the following points: (a) The food in the cafeteria. The soup was too salty, the vegetables were overcooked, and the steamed fish was not at its best, and (b) It would be a strong gesture of care to customers if the safe are free of charge.
Review 10:The following are the notable strengths of the hotel: (a) The landscape. Gardens and pool made the visit more relaxing; a complete escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life, and (b) The personnel of the hotel were accommodating and proficient in English language. More power to this awesome hotel.
Review 11:The furniture is very old. Very beautiful, for the time, but old. Occasionally, noise could be heard from the woodworm of the wood...
Review 12:The breakfast was perfect, rich, great variety. The location of the hotel is ideal and the car parking very comfortable. The restaurant is very good. Variety and quality of food. Large comfortable rooms and spacious public areas. The staff very helpful. However, they could have some extra staff at the reception desk...
Review 13:A 10-15 min walk from town if you don't want to eat in hotel restaurant in the evening (expensive). Not that far really but means no quick and cheap meal after a tiring day sightseeing
Review 14:Great breakfast buffet, very extensive. Nice to have a fridge. Clean standard hotel rooms in lovely garden setting.
Review 15:Location is a bit off city centre, but we were staying for 1 night only hence did not mind it at all.
Review 16:Classy hotel with nice, wooden and spacious interiors. We booked it a night before heading to Gibraltar.
Review 17:The full board option was great value. The breakfast was good and the evening buffet excellent. The location is quiet and I slept well. The WiFi was strong and fast. No complaints and will stay again.
Review 18:This hotel is beautiful. I was alone on business, but would like to return with my family. The food was great particularly the evening buffet. And the WiFi was strong and fast which was important for work.
Review 19:Algeciras very limited with shops and restaurants
Review 20:The location and facility is very good recommend if go as tourist for Gibraltar Also cheap with taxi and buss if go to Gibraltar
Review 21:Beds bit hard and they should just do Spanish food not try to keep Brits happy with Brit food which they are not good at.
Review 22:The salads were so fresh and plenty variety to choose from. The building inside and out was beautiful don't change a thing. I have heard some say needs refurb no no no it's is beautiful as it is and so so clean!!!
Review 23:When the hotel advertice in Booking.com as a 4 star staying you should not get a room in a cottage in a dark part of the garden.
Review 24:False marketing. 4 stars for a room in apart small building away from the hotel main building
Review 25:We didn't found Algeciras town is much to look forward to. It has a beach area with boulevard 3 km to the south of the hotel.
Review 26:The hotel in total, the aristocratic feel the architecture of the building, big garden and the swimming pool area. nice terraces. The food is not extensive in variation but very good. To us a place to come for rest for 3-4 days.
Review 27:Smell from AirCon in room. Heavy security from Police Conference, armed Police. Loud and heavy-base music all night until 6 am on first night.
Review 28:Gardens and style of Hotel in general.
Review 29:Beds are incredibly hard. Had to leave after two days of no sleep. Accommodation very old, tired and in need of renovation. Staff were fine. Given poolside room which maybe are not used much but not really up to the standard claimed. Certainly not worth the star rating sadly as I had paid in advance and had to find another hotel! If you are going to charge people in advance you need to be truthful about your facilities.
Review 30:Level access. Lots of parking.
Review 31:The hotel had been in a wonderful position when built in the 1930s but the town around it has become quite industrial, so don't expect to see much in the town.
Review 32:The hotel has a lot of really nice old features and was a relaxing place to stay. It was also easy to go to Gibraltar and Tarifa by bus.
Review 33:Buffet breakfast was not good at all. choice not very varied and slow to replenish. Staff in bar area not very attentive
Review 34:Beautiful old building, well preserved. Buffet supper excellent value for money Room well equipped
Review 35:We were very taken aback when we had to walk through a wedding reception to get to our room. We also had to walk through the wedding in our swimwear as the pool was next to the wedding reception . Our room had cracked tiles and the air con was so noisey we could not sleep. Not a Nice experience staying at this hotel!
Review 36:We had much higher expectations of a four star hotel. Very impersonal service. Staff seemed grumpy and unhappy.
Review 37:Good value for money. We only paid EUR55 for a double room with buffet breakfast.
Review 38:We had half board and would have preferred less volume for more quality. We don't have current GPS and hence had to ask directions to find hotel. Streets do have signage advising that you are close.
Review 39:Wonderful old hotel, beautifully kept, lovely big grounds with pool and fantastic location. Free parking is a big bonus. Close to port and buses for travel to Gibraltar and Tangier, Morocco.
Review 40:We asked for an early check-in but when we got to the hotel at approx 12.45pm was told it would be half an hour before the room was ready. We were also asked if we wanted to have a credit card swiped so any additional charges could be charged on check-out, we advised we would like to pay cash (the exchange rate is much better than using a credit card) at which point we were asked to pay for the room in full (we went full-board) before we were even given the key-card! I've never been asked this before, anywhere!?! Anyway we went for a drink on the patio and went back 40 mins later, to be told it would be another 10 minutes!! As we were full board, we decided to go for lunch - whilst still waiting to check-in. When we did finally get checked in the room we were given was on the 'ground' floor - room 10. There was no balcony - we had an outside area that led directly out onto the grounds, with a wall around it! No privacy at all! There was a safe in the room but required a deposit with reception for a key - this is antiquated as most hotels now have the automatic coded safes! The room was ok, although very dated - the doors looked like they were from the 70's and had been re-painted, badly, giving an overall impression of a place that needs bringing up to date. The hotel looks nice and the grounds are well kept but again there are areas that are very dated. The worst thing about this hotel though was, we decided to have a few hours in the pool in the afternoon (which was pretty dirty, but I figured it was late in the day and being used a lot) and had to endure horrific "music" from the bar, which was constant base & drum - not very conducive to relaxing! When I got out of the pool I was itching all over, so we decided to go to the indoor pool (this was one of the reasons we had booked here int he first place) and there was sign on the door saying 'out of order'. There was no mention of this when booking or checking in!!
Review 41:The food was good, however if you are not a fan of seafood, limited choice otherwise. Wi-Fi was ok in our room but when moving about it went on and off! Good towels and room was clean.
Review 42:Downtown is about 20 minutes walk and the city itself not very exciting/interesting. Not the hotel's fault but something to consider.
Review 43:Beautiful Gardena surrounding the hotel, very spacious outside area, terrace and lobby. Nice pool with bar. Nice beach in 10 minutes drive, nicer batches at about 25.
Review 44:AC did not work in our room and we had to ask them to bring in a pedestal fan! It was really hot in the room. They offered to move us, but a bathroom light did not work in the alternative room and the room had the funky smell of wet towels. The second night, they did tinker with the AC and it was better than before but we still needed the fan and it was still extremely uncomfortable in the room without it. In fact it was cooler outside than inside the room. staff are also very unhelpful.
Review 45:the location is fabulous, and the property is grand, but it needs a lot of upkeep.
Review 46:Nice grounds, free car park ,free wifi, staff all friendly and helpfull,Bar and dining room staff all dressed , waist coats and bow tie, looked the part.Thank you.
Review 47:We were waiting half an hour in a line to check in and then 15 minutes because room wasn't clean. Deposit box in a room didn't have key, breakfast was quite poor.
Review 48:WiFi was usually very good in main building but do not expect strong signal near pool.
Review 49:My 4th visit and always enjoy. This time in summer made use of pool and room next to poolside. Was staying mid week so less busy so more relaxed. The hotel keeps getting better.
Review 50:What a beautiful place, Stayed only 1 night In a spacious room with separate toilet. Ideal place for longer stay. There is an outdoor swimming pool, fabulous terrace with beautiful view . To add to this excellent service from staff. We had a buffet dinner at hotel (16 euro per person) ,very good choice of food and value for money. Good buffet breakfast as well. No problem with Wi-Fi
Review 51:The dinner was not particularly good. We dined a la carte rather than the buffet so expected to be better.
Review 52:The pool area The beautiful gardens Staff were smart
Review 53:The beds were from the 50s, not exactly the most comfortable.
Review 54:The staff was very helpful, the breakfast buffet was tasty, the hotel itself is beautiful.
Review 55:Every simple request was met with a grimace. How dare I ask a staff member to go out of his or her way? I called room service at 11:15 to ask for ice cream, and they said they were closed. After a moment's thought, I called to ask what time they closed, and they said 11:15. I said that I only wanted ice cream...nothing that required cooking. They asked which flavors I wanted and I said strawberry and chocolate. They brought the ice cream (the wrong flavors). At 6 AM I woke up itching. The side table was swarming with ants, and some were in my bed. I called downstairs. They didn't seem concerned. After an hour I called again. The lady came and told me that I shouldn't be eating in the room! I told her the food was from room service! She acted as if the ants were my fault! I'd lost several hours of sleep, and they insisted on charging me money when I asked to stay an extra hour. Everytime I asked a question I was sent to a different employee who acted extremely confused as to why I was bothering him. Stay away from this hotel!!!
Review 56:The room was beautiful, despite the ant problem. The gazpacho soup was delicious.
Review 57:Limited dinner options, Buffet a bit tired. Some steps to be travelled with suitcases.
Review 58:Comfortable and good value for money. Good location for ferry terminal.
Review 59:Location near the port water front can result in certain undesirable smells at times.
Review 60:Beautiful old hotel of the 1900s - 1960s, renovated for long stay guests. Beautiful gardens with out-door and in-door pools. Staff helpful, but could do with some enhanced serve training. Good buffet breakfast. Value for the money.
Review 63:We arrived to hotel without reservation. We were with our motorbike clothes and were very tired. The lady at reception claimed that they have no room. As I mentioned about booking.com, she changed her words and started to say that there's a room but it may be small. I didn't asked a large room (the room she gave us later was huge though). So I booked from booking.com. Judging someone with physical appearance is unacceptable.
Review 64:It is a little outside of the center, but in walking distance to a great Moroccan restaurant.
Review 65:We got a very big room with view on the pool. The bathroom was big with complementary toiletries. The pool area is nice, the breakfast was great. The stuff was very helpful and solved all our request.
Review 66:Two twin beds pushed together do not constitute a double bed. I hate lying on the crack and the remote kept falling between the beds. The air conditioning was either too cold or had no warm I never managed to get the temperature right. We had a problem getting into the hotel car park. There were coaches blocking the entrance and cars coming in all directions. We were told repeatedly by unhelpful people that we couldn't go in. Finally after 25 minutes we just pushed out way in. Nobody from the hotel was taking responsibility and when I complained at check in I got very unhelpful and unsympathetic responses
Review 67:The room was big, the hotel is located conveniently for the port. The swimming pool and the gardens are nice. Breakfast was varied and good.
Review 68:Breakfast designed for British tourists - not typically Spanish. No butter - something we found necessary. We don't eat margarine!
Review 69:The building and gardens are memorable and the room and bathroom comfortable and well-equipped.
Review 70:Not in the most desirable part of town, but that is more of a function of the city growing around the hotel. Check out procedure was slow as a tour bus arrived when we were checking out. Parking could be an issue. Could use a bit of a upgrade on some of the carpets.
Review 71:Old charm and interesting historic building. Buffet breakfast was excellent. 30 minutes from Gibralter which was away from the hustle and bustle of the rock.
Review 72:This was a wonderful hotel set in beautiful gardens with so many plus points. We accepted that we had to pay for the rooms on arrival but could not understand why when we had an a la carte meal with it had to be paid for in the restaurant but when we had the buffet with wine we had to pay for the wine after the meal in the restaurant but then had to go to reception to pay for the meal. We felt there was a lack of trust. It is a shame the hotel does not have a policy for preventing patrons from leaving their towels on sun beds for hours without using then and tying bags to parasols so that some of us were left with nowhere to sit and no shade.
Review 73:The elegance of the hotel. The A la carte meal was well presented and served but could have been improved with more choice. The house wine was good and excellent value for money.
Review 74:The Deluxe room was in a new wing and was very comfortable. However, the lovely balcony was not usable and the window needed to remain closed. We made the error of opening them and woke up to the worse sewage stench we have ever known. It made us feel very sick and the Mosquitos were unbearable. So either heat or stench in the new rooms!
Review 75:The building is very beautiful, it is a shame the port has grown up so close to such a lovely place.
Review 76:Beds and pillows were not very comfortable. The rooms definitely need updating.
Review 77:The grounds are amazing, Paco the bar man was amazing. Pool was lovely and relaxing.
Review 78:Initial experience at Check-in not very welcoming or helpful but then another female staff member came to provide very helpful assistance to us....
Review 79:Glorious shower....
Review 80:None.
Review 81:Rooms were big and comfortable, staff very solicitous, grounds of hotel beautiful. It was nice having a small patio off our ground floor room. Hotel within walking distance of port, bus and train stations (about 10-15 minutes). Because we made our reservations just a couple days before arriving, we received a steep discount on our rooms so it felt like an excellent value for the money. We were able to stay in a luxury 4 star hotel for 2 star prices!
Review 82:Lack of a courtesy bus from and to Gibraltar Airport If too costly for all guests maybe transfers at cost for regular visitors could be considered It would be a nice touch!
Review 83:Thought the large jugs of iced water and plentiful supply of fresh washed fruit always available at reception was a great idea Really appreciated the spacious quiet clean and comfortable bedrooms Nothing was too much trouble for the staff Alice in the dining room and Manuel on reception were particularly helpful Hotel spotless and gardens beautiful !
Review 84:Main restaurant a bit expensive. Not enough staff so those that were on duty were overworked. Location near docks not great - the smell from the oil refinery wasn't pleasant at times.
Review 85:Nice hotel, well maintained, comfortable bed, excellent toilet & bathroom facilities. Breakfast very generous. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 86:This time there was a cooking smell early in the morning and before dinner time. Don't know whether it was bad oil or something else.
Review 87:This hotel has beautiful gardens, very nice luxury rooms. This was our second stay and we will be back
Review 88:you need a car as the location is near the docks and not very attractive- the beach is a drive away the indoor pool is very small
Review 89:we stayed just one night half board the food was excellent - the hotel itself has great characterand history Very nice helpful staff
Review 90:The room should have had a wastebasket, other than in the bathroom and i wish that there was a guide letting me know which channels were in English. Don't speak Spanish.
Review 91:It was very cold during the past couple of days. i went to turn on the heat and the a/c came on. i called the front desk and they said that they were going to send an engineer in to check the heat. they then called me back to say that the heat is turned off at the start of spring. i told them that i was cold and they said they would bring me a couple of blankets. the engineer showed up with a space heater! The room became nice and toasty thanks to the space heater. That is customer service! I stayed at many other hotels during the week, and they all had the same situation, no heat, but they didn't offer anything. Americans are more concerned with customer service than anything. This hotel gave great customer service. That is what counts. The buffet alone was worth every penny! The wifi was great! When I called my family they said that it was like I was in the next room. I stayed at other hotels and the wifi connection was horrible
Review 92:The breakfast was very bad, running out of food all the time and cold not good at all.wouln not eat in this hotel food very poor.
Review 93:Liked the hotel old style was verynice.
Review 94:The area has a run down feel and whilst trees break the views you cannot get away from the port. Large cranes break into every view and smells from local chemical plants occasionally drift by
Review 95:Lovely garden setting with indoor and outdoor pools. Nice sitting and bar areas with truly Spanish feel without over the top fittings
Review 96:Beautiful hotel. I thought the breakfast was expensive at 14 euros. But It is well worth the bus to Gibralter at 2.40 euros and not have to worry about parking.
Review 97:Night mosquita bite!!
Review 98:Excellent location, service, parking, breakfast. Very pleasant pre dinner drinks in bar. Good evening restaurant dining. Fantastic value for money.
Review 99:I travel a lot and my previous trip to Algeciras was not good. This hotel more than made up for it. It was lovely. A charming old building in a real Spanish style set in quiet gardens. Great staff, big comfortable room. The WiFi was brilliant. Had a great buffet breakfast before setting off to work. And really good value. I will be back.
Review 100:Change the music for the breakfast room - even the most stoic English tourists might not enjoy the Stones in such an ambience and that early... Outdoor facilities only seem to work in late spring
Review 101:Atmosphere, room, grandeur of old times. Good food, drinks at the bar affordable! Great, professional service. A good reason to come back to Algeciras, otherwise the city is nothing but a hub to nicer pastures...
Review 102:Buffet meal unimpressive and breakfast buffet could have been hotter
Review 103:Lovely old building and well maintained. We first visited the Reina Christina in 1970, sad that times have changed
Review 104:Buffett was very reasonably priced but a bit lacking in quality in some dishes.
Review 105:Hotel full of old world charm but with up to minute service in the bedroom and bathroom.
Review 106:The food was very poor especially when one remembers this is a 4 star hotel.
Review 107:The hotel has a charm of days gone by and we have returned to it again and again over the years. Good as a touring base or as a get away from it all bolt hole.
Review 108:TO VISIT GIBRALTAR AND TARIFA,IT IS THE BEST PLACE TO STAY AND RELAX. BEACH OF TARIFA IS FANTASITC,GIBRALTAR IS A MUST VIST PLACE. HOTEL IS BETWEEN THE TWO LOCATIONS. HOTEL IS REALLY GOOD.IT IS.EASY TO FIND WITH GPS.
Review 109:Staff for checking in terribly slow. Waited on hold for 15 minutes to order room service before giving up.
Review 110:They had a tea kettle! Big spacious room. Staff were prompt to fix problem with key card.
Review 111:Tired decor , old cheap carpet in bedroom area, peeling paint on bathroom door, some staff not particularly friendly or helpful not very welcoming.Avoid external motel type bedrooms around the back of the pool unless you like late disco noise, staff kindly changed our room for this reason
Review 112:The history of the hotel, open fires, faded grandeur, conviniant touring base but not a destination in it's own right.
Review 113:- we were required to pay in advance, which is insulting - the rooms are quite small for such huge hotel - it's quite away from the downtown
Review 114:- great looks - great breakfast options - very nice place to stay during the summer - wonderful surrounding space
Review 115:Didn't appreciate that our 'credit' was no good & our dinner could not be added to the room bill..........honestly, we weren't going any where.........except to bed for the night.
Review 116:Lovely warm arrival, helped by warm roaring wood burning fire going in reception. Ideal location for all modes of transport & good to have restaurant open for late arrivals.
Review 117:The hotel is old and decor is outdated. Could do with a makeover.
Review 118:This hotel was very different from the contemporary hotels we stayed at previouly. The hotel is old, but I loved the gardens, different public spaces, and terrace in our room. I liked that the hotel was easy to find and parking was accessible and free. They had live music the night we were there, which was great. Breakfast was included in the price and was very good, almost anything you could want for breakfast was available.
Review 119:The usual chef was not there when we stayed and to be honest the food wasn't great - however, after speaking with other guests they did say it was the first time this had happened.
Review 120:The grounds of the hotel were spacious and relaxing. The log fire was welcoming. The hotel itself was to die for - absolutely stunning. I want to go and stay again! Everything was amazing
Review 121:Very dark room with only one wall light. I found the restaurant atmosphere unfriendly and frankly I thought my waiter verged on being rude. To me a 'buffet' is a display of food from which you help yourself. Here it actually means 'set menu'. I wanted a starter from the 'buffet' but did not like any of the mains so wanted an 'a la carte' selection for my main. Even though the stater food was available I wasn't able to have it unless I had the entire 'buffet' option. It is not my fault that there was some confusion. There was no need for me to be treated like some sort of trouble-maker! I wanted a glass of red wine and suggested that Ribera would be nice. Again the waiter went off on a little strop about how I could only have house wine and I needed to order a bottle I wanted to choose the type. No big problem but this waiter seemed to forget who the customer was and expected me to fit in with some system that was never clear to start with. I suggest some young blood and a bit of life and sparkle in the bar and restaurant department. People do not want stuffy, formal staff and 'attitude' from middle aged men.
Review 122:Lovely large comfortable room, fantastic grounds, friendly and helpful reception and other staff. Great location for ferries and train/bus station. Great value for money. Would stay again and use as a centre to tour from.
Review 123:No complaints at all
Review 124:Fantastic hotel, our rooms fantastic in size, comfort and relaxation location, friendly helpful staff, good restaurant facilities, Breakfast a delight.
Review 125:Travelling round the world it is a real treat when you find the place you booked months ago is such a lovely hotel, nice history and situated in peaceful grounds. No noisy street noises yet only a 10 min walk to the local train & bus stations for our day trip to Gibraltar. Arrived by car and left by taxi (luggage purposes)to nearby train.clean spacious rooms. Old world charm but not showing its age. Food is average.
Review 126:Bit of a walk in to town. Building needs a little tender loving care.
Review 127:Friendly and helpful staff. Interesting old property that was no doubt once very grand. Had plenty of character. Good selection at breakfast and spacious room for 3.
Review 128:Located near the port, so not an interesting area. No litter bin in the room.
Review 129:Nice old fashioned hotel with pleasant design standing on it's own grounds. Free parking, breakfast and wifi included in the price.
Review 130:Shame that the port growing up in front of the hotel spoils the view and when the wind is in the wrong direction, the smell from the refinery is terrible.
Review 131:Beautiful Colonial style hotel in lovely gardens
Review 132:Didn't like the feeling that the bed linen had not been changed from the previous guests, except for a small blood stain on the sheet no proof, just a feeling and the sheet was changed promptly. One female reception person was icy.
Review 133:Lovely big room with lots of windows and a balcony. Comfortable beds, good bed coverings. Good big bathroom with over bath shower, reasonable towels. User friendly TV with a few language choices.
Review 134:I had been there 1 year ago with a totally different experience. The staff this time, were not attentive. A wedding reception was taking place and a gang of children 8-12 years old were roaming around the lobby being disruptive and noisy. Later at dinner a lot of noise from the reception ruined my dining experience. I am glad my first stay was nice, or I would not take a chance and possibly return.
Review 135:Building is a return to elegance of yesteryear. Great view of Gibraltar. Close to Ferry and buses.
Review 136:20 minutes wait at reception to book in. Noise from downstairs convention center. Well overcooked bacon at breakfast. Distance from Gibraltar stated as 6 Kms, this is obviously in a straight line, the real distance is over 24 Kms. Parts of the hotel are a little tired, curtain hanging off of the rail in room. Lift needs updating badly.
Review 137:Meals were very good. The choice for breakfast was unbelievable. The grounds of the hotel were very good and well kept. Room was immaculate although a little tired in decor. Fantastic price for the room and meals. Would stay again when I get to visit Gibraltar for pleasure.
