Reviews for Hotel Rural los Caracoles

Review 1:Nothing

Review 2:This hotel is absolutely unique , amazing views, kind hosts and great food! They even have a book and DVD corner ! Breakfast was plentiful and we sat outside overlooking the mountains and sea

Review 3:2nd meal was poor . our room was in need of repairs many lights not working and heating very poor

Review 4:our 1st meal was very good views are stunning staff friendly

Review 5:The steps down to the bungalows get very slippery when it rains. Andwhen it rains, like it did when stayed, it really rains! Be preparedwith shoes with a good grip, or you'll end up going barefoot in thetorrential rain like I did ;) Also. Be aware that wi-fi is not availablein the rooms - it is however, freely available in the restaurant.

Review 6:Rural location, up in the hills. Quirky nature of accommodation, woodburner in suite, restaurant & wonderful evening meal.Exceptional value for the quality.

Review 7:used toilet paper goes in bin poor lighting very steep entrance (1:3) restaurant closes Mondays cold out of season our room leaked after heavy rain no self catering, even for tea and coffee

Review 8:great views large circular bubble-bath

Review 9:Only criticism is that you could do with a phone in the room, as it's a long steep walk to reception if you need anything

Review 10:Beautiful place, amazing views, quirky cool rooms

Review 11:Bit expensive. The personal couldn't tell much about the surroundings.

Review 12:Fantastic between the mountains and the sea, quiet and easy going. Friendly personal.

Review 13:If I had to pick fault the only 1 thing that the hotel lacked weretea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. We woke around 8 am andwent out onto our private terrace to see a spectacular view with mistrolling down the mountains down to the sea, and to be able to sit therewith a nice cup of coffee/tea would have just made the morning!Unfortunately you are unable to get a coffee/tea until breakfast isserved until 9.15am

Review 14:Stayed in individual suites and cannot fault them, they were clean, comfortable and very unique. With one a hell of a view from themountains down to the coast! The breakfast was superb with a choice offresh produce, different breads, cheese, ham, eggs, fruit, yoghurt etc.

Review 15:The bed wasn't the most comfortable. It was a bit warm to sleep without air conditioner

Review 16:The views from the hotel was fabulous! Quirky hotel. Good breakfast

Review 17:We stayed during August & there was no air-conditioning in the rooms which were rather hot! Fans were provided but just seemed to move the hot air around rather than cool you.

Review 18:This was a lovely little place. Fabulous views from the terrace & really quaint rooms. Breakfast was served until around 11am & was plentiful. The pool was lovely & check-out not until 12pm so we got plenty of time make use of it.The staff were welcoming & helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 19:We managed to get the last room which was not one of the independent small hobbit-style huts but inside the building that is divided into 6 or more small room. The other guests kept slamming the doors shut with their heads I assume, not closing them with the help of this fantastic tool that some call "hand". There was a lot of disturbance from the other guests, our room not being sound-proof at all. It was supposed to be a romantic experience but the noise ruined it all transforming it into a legal fiasco.

Review 20:Fantastic views of the valley, Frigiliana, Nerja and the sea. The location is amazing and the staff very helpful. There is a pool available.

Review 21:No kettle.

Review 22:Beautifully and uniquely designed and fitted out throughout. Tranquility, privacy, and one of the best views you could find anywhere laying in the pool. Friendly staff, okay to stay and use the facilities after checkout.

Review 23:If it had air con it would be perfect! The food in the restaurant was slightly over priced, but to a high standard.

Review 24:The location was amazing. Room bigger than we thought and comfortable. Breakfast was great and so peaceful there.

Review 25:We stayed 2 nights and even though the heat was on we didn't reach a level of temperature that was nice. I'm sure the place is much nicer in the summer-time. Our bungalow was in a very bad condition with fungus on the walls and a really bad and unhealthy smell in the rooms. Next day we were offered another bungalow which had no problems. We saw the painter working at the place so it seems like they are repairing the problem soon.

Review 26:Fantastic view! Clean rooms. Very smiling and welcoming owner/staff. Very good breakfast with several items to choose from.

Review 27:I know this is out of control of the people who manage the caracoles, but it is a haven for wasps, we ate at the restaurant and also had breakfast outside but it was spoiled a bit by the wasp threat. Also there are some ferel cats which are fed with biscuits around the site, I didn't like how the cats are allowed to go into the breakfast room, we saw cats on the table and then running out with slices of bread. this needs to be attended to for health reasons.

Review 28:The area is just beautiful, high up in the hills with distant views of the sea and of Frigilana. The rooms are very quirky , so restfull, decorated beautifully, very Arabic with tea lights al over the room , you can have a candle lit bath as they are also provided in the bathroom, they also provide matches. Our caracole was very private no one passed as it was high up, so the full length sun bed that is provided was well used for topless sunbathing. There is a great pool for cooling off, only small but well kept. Sleep wise you could here a pin drop, perfect night. A quirky unseen thing where is live is to see the 'neighbours' mountain goats being herded every night, with their little bells ringing. A lovely addition to an almost perfect stay.

Review 29:Had problems with room heating Bathroom in need of some maintenance Could do with some coffee/tea facilities

Review 30:Beautiful and tranquil location Very helpful hotel staff. Quirky Suite Privacy of the Suite

Review 31:Inedible steak, terrible lamb chops (the 'house special'), tasteless salad, freezer chips, dry cake-like tiramisu. An expensive mistake...there isn't an ounce of talent or care in the kitchen..truly shocking. Breakfast is ok...there's no cooking! But the coffee is dire.

Review 32:Breath-taking views, clean and spacious rooms, friendly staff. The drive up the mountain to the hotel is fun, if a little scary.

Review 33:It was just a pity the pool was too deep for my young child so she didn't get the benefit of the pool.

Review 34:Stunning location, quirky accomodation and lovely friendly staff.

Review 35:the rooms were very hot and the electrical fan didn't help much (noisy and ineffective). If leaving before 9 o'clock don't expect any breakfast (even if included in the price) Very scary drive up winding lanes to reach it.

Review 36:the location was amazing (breathtaking views), funky rooms, good pool with beautiful views. Very friendly staff.

Review 37:A kettle in the room would have been nice.

Review 38:My second stay here. It's a wonderful hotel. Ideal for a relaxing break in a stunning location. The mini fridge in the suite is a nice touch. The suites are the best option as opposed to the basic rooms. Like Hobbit houses - very quirky! Wonderful.

Review 39:The 'snail' shaped rooms were funky in style although could do with a bit of redecoration, (e.g. damp on ceiling)

Review 40:The views were beautiful The food was excellent and the cost was reasonable The breakfast setting

Review 41:I spend there just 1 night. Want much more.

Review 42:Fantastic location! Nice cuisine, friendly stuff, unusual and very interesting hotel design.

Review 43:Clean room and good view from the hotel.

Review 44:Breakfast, it is very simple

Review 45:View, mountain location, peaceful

Review 46:fantastic location and views.friendly and helpful staff

Review 47:The views were stunning. The quietness & peacefulness was very refreshing. Perfect to get away from it all.

Review 48:room was very hot, no airconditioning. Also it was not particular warm during the day.

Review 49:Great views from the room

Review 50:Lack of air con in rooms-fans were too noisy to sleep comfortably.

Review 51:Magnificent views and quirky accommodation.

Review 52:Rooms far too hot for July as no airconditioning and only a table fan

Review 53:Great location and stunning views

Review 54:We did not get our room when we arrived and shocked by we actually did not get any notice In advance ! Very disappointed

Review 55:We celebrated our sons marriage to a princess in Granada. Afterwards we stayed in Caracoles! Very relaxing and what wonderful views.

Review 56:- Internet - We did't understand, in the bathroom ceiling was dirt or mold - not nice

Review 57:Beautiful view, singularity, staff

Review 58:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - overall excellent.

Review 59:Very quiet

Review 60:Wifi doesn't reach the rooms.

Review 61:Quiet, great views (weather permitting!), cozy. Frigiliana is only a 5-10min drive away.

Review 62:bit smell in the rooms,

Review 63:mountains,the vew was just amazing

Review 64:none

Review 65:rural location, very good food

Review 66:few vegetarian options on the menu

Review 67:architecture location staff friendliness

Review 68:Perhaps drivers should be warned to be alert and not afraid of heights.

Review 69:The ride up the mountain is part of the experience! Hang on to your hat.

Review 70:Lot's of. Stairs.

Review 71:Very spacious Pool lovely. Food was good.

Review 72:Views, food and lovely staff

Review 73:No WiFi in the room and no air con

Review 74:The peace and quiet and the quirky room with a lovely view

Review 75:sleepping, way to hot in there

Review 76:view, food

Review 77:no air conditioner.

Review 78:if u r tired of 5 star hotel, book this one. we had a very enjoyable stay!!

Review 79:When we arrived there was no fan in the room but the team at the hotel were quick to sort this for us. We really enjoyed our stay

Review 80:Lack of proper air conditioning which meant that on hot nights the doors on verandah had to be opened and mosquitos are terrible. Mosquito net over bed too hot to put in place. No sleep.

Review 81:Very unusual architecture, good restaurant facilities, pool and parking. Beautiful views across the valley to the coast.

Review 82:Atmosphere in restaurant bit too chique, doesn't match with type of accommodation. Owner doesn't speak English and wasn't that kind. Dog of the hotel is tight up to the fence for hours...poor dog!!

Review 83:Fantastic views

Review 84:Lovely peaceful location with amazing views. The cave like accommodation is excellent with a lovely bathroom and terrace. Nice pool and about a 10 minute drive to the nearest village.

Review 85:Stuffy beds. Very cold and a little humid inside, for April it was almost uncomfortable. But they had heaters. Hot water in the admittedly lovely madeup bath did not work that well - as it was cold outside, esp. in the evenings, this was a bit of a let down.

Review 86:Wonderfully located, the view from the suite...! The private terrasse is lovely, spacious and comfortable. Very good food at the restaurant. Good access from there to some interesting trips.

Review 87:Nada

Review 88:Superb location with panoramic views over the mountains and over Nerja. Attractive and unusual room design. Friendly staff. Good food in the stylish restaurant

Review 89:the coffee in the morning was almost immediately cold. the food/dinner was oke, but could definitely be improved.

Review 90:The bartender/waiter made our stay! Beautiful, Gaudi-like rooms/appartments in a beatiful surrounding with a view on the mountains, the sea and Frigiliana.

Review 91:Lack of attention to details of comfort and cleanliness. We checked in just as reception was closing and when we got to the room we discovered the floor was covered with leaves other debris. We decided we could live with that for one night so instead of calling reception back, we headed off to explore the village. But when we returned we discovered that the towels were old and very scratchy. The spare blanket and all the bedding was incredibly dusty. And the built in heating system wasn't turned on so we spent the evening huddled by the single plug in heater they provided. The next morning we notified reception and asked for a thorough room cleaning. When we returned from a long hike at 5 pm our room still hadn't been serviced. So we had to hunt down the cleaning lady and wait outside on the terrace for an hour while she cleaned our room and replaced the bad towels and dusty bedding. This isn't the kind of service standard that I would expect from a 100 euro/night hotel. It's a shame that a beautiful hotel in such a lovely location can let the experience of a stay be ruined by a lack of attention to the basics.

Review 92:Stunning location and views. The design of the suites is enchanting, the large spa tub was great for soaking after a day of hiking in the hills. The service at the restaurant was excellent and the dinner time catered to normal European schedules rather than the normal Spanish late night dinner schedule.

Review 93:The rooms are some what poorly lit.

Review 94:This is a real gem of a hotel and restaurant, perched near the top of a mountain just outside Frigiliana. The rooms and bungalows are in a charming almost "hobbit" style and the view looking down to the resort of Nerja is breathtaking. The best was dinner in the evening, again the situation to sit on the terrace is wonderful the view is magnificent and the service is both friendly and efficient. The food was fantastic, we had fabulous, freshly marinated anchovies and tempura aubergine as starters and the pork and rissoto which followed were perfect. The breakfast was amongst the best we had tasted in 10 days in Andalucia and all of the staff were very pleasant and courteous. Would highly recommend and can't wait to go back.

Review 95:so we arrived back from this little hidden jem today and i would give my right arm to be back there now, so it was easy to find as soon as we found frigiliana and yes the roads are rather windy but good concentration and a steady pace and there should be no problems. we arrived at the hotel at around 11pm to be met by a very friendly male waiter, who was chatty and witty- great start, he showed us to our suite which was a snail shaped bungalow and we were instantly over the moon before we even stepped inside... our shell was away from the others and right by the pool so nice and private which we loved, it was dark when we arrived so we were given a torch to use to get to and from our room. upon entering the room we were met by a fantastic smell of incence, the decor was brilliant, such a cosy romantic room! there was a tv and dvd player, a sofa, coffee table, little fridge, the bedroom had a double bed with mosquito net, large wardrobe full length mirror, and dressing table! the bathroom was soo cosy too with a huge bath big enough for two and a hairdryer and gorgeous basin. the hotel was so quiet and peaceful perfect place for relaxation with amazing views :D we ate at the resturant, highly recomend the steak, best steak iv ever had and only around 20euros for sirloin. AMAZING BREAK! GET ME BACK THERE NOW!!!!

Review 96:Well for such a distant location they should sell some products, some snacks between breakfast and diner. Also it was really difficult to find, i wouldn't reccomend it to people who are disabled of who have trouble with walking.

Review 97:The Location, Location, Location, what a view. The staff was really friendly and the food was good

Review 98:Hard to find anything negative.

Review 99:Exelent staff, location faboulus, great arcitecture, easy short drive to beach, food was tremendously good and still plenty of choice after three evenings.

Review 100:We loved the small cottages nestled into the mountains. It wasvery charming. The staff were kind and helpful. The breakfast that was included was delicious. The restaurant at night was surprisingly tasty and I thought the chef added a noteworthy Moroccan flare that was unexpected when staying out in the hillside away from the business of Nerja. We'd stay here again easily! Loved it!

Review 101:Of the comfortable innerspring mattress the frame work was palpable (the hotel has promissed to take action). The dogs in probably a kennel in the valley, were heard regularly.

Review 102:Romantic and very original styled hotel on a hilltop on a fifteen minute drive from the beach of Nerja. Fantastic views of Frigiliana, Nerja and the sea. We stayed in one of the comfortable and spacious suites. Nice pool and sunbathing area with comfortable sun beds. Good breakfast and restaurant / bar. Friendly and service minded staff. All well maintained and clean.

Review 103:towels were old electric wires in the bathroom (certainly not matching the most basic security standards) poor buffet for breakfast (1 day out of 2 no croissant), cheap yogurt

Review 104:very quiet location

Review 105:- Not ideal if you haven't hired a car or other transport. The location is a little more remote than we expected, but that was our fault!

Review 106:- Amazing views over the mountains above Frigiliana. - The hotel rooms, bar/restaurant and terraces are beautiful. - Staff speak very little English but were all fantastic. - Excellent food at the restaurant. Big portions!

Review 107:Bad bad bed, when I turned my husband turn and the other way around, and we are thin, and not a good comfort, one bedlinen, polyester. Therewas many small things that didnt work, and we had to fix the heat inthe room, no heat in the bathroom, very cold when we came even theyknew we were on our way, that was not nice, it never became warm beforewe left again

Review 108:Warm welcome, the nature is great what a view, the rooms terrace wasnice, the breakfast nice and the service

Review 109:No hot drink facility in room Was woken up very early Sunday morning by a someone walking around in spike shoes nextdoor Road up is dangerous at night

Review 110:Amazing views, excellent food, very comfy beds,

Review 111:Que no hay wifi en las habitaciones. Sólo hay wifi en la zona delrestaurante y la terraza pero en temporada baja cierran por la tarde.Tuvimos que utilizar el wifi sentados fuera en el frío. There's nowi-fi service in the rooms. The only place with wi-fi is therestaurant/terrace area but during the low season the restaurant isclosed. We had to use wi-fi sitting outside in the cold.

Review 112:El personal es muy amable y servicial. Las vistas desde el hotel sonfantásticas y el hotel en sí es único. El desayuno es de estilo buffet ybastante completo. The staff is friendly and helpful. The views from thehotel are fantastic and the hotel itself is unique. Breakfast is buffet-style and has a bit of everything.
