Reviews for Hotel Médano
Review 1:No coffee/tea making facilities and the room was rather bare, like a large white cell. The self-service restaurant was reminiscent of a works canteen, with poor food and mean little tables.
Review 2:Useful stopping-off point if you have an early flight from Tenerife South. A very spacious room - ours was almost overlooking the sea - and just a few steps from a pleasant beach.
Review 3:Unfortunately the hotel has no car park. Also taxis have to park a little way away to drop you off as it is in a pedestrianized area. So you have to find parking for your hire car in streets around. There are 3 sittings for evening dinner if you're on half board. At 6.30, 7.15 and 8pm which only gives you 45mins and restricts you to a certain time which is a downside - as we had to book in our eating time on arrival. When we stay their next and I feel sure there will be another time, we will stay on a bed and breakfast basis then some nights eat in their ground floor restaurant area and other times try the local hostelries. TV - maybe I didn't explore it properly but the only decent English speaking channel was BBC News 24.
Review 4:The location, how it sat on the beach protruding out into the sea with lovely views. In the central of everything, but it you had a sea facing room it was very quiet at night Very pleasant staff, particularly Nadene and Philippe, they spoke very good English. Also I found the management most obliging in resolving a request of mine. On arrival we upgraded to a premier room at an additional cost of !8 Euros per night per room. We had room 411. It had a very large 4 piece bathroom. Very big balcony, two sun loungers as well as a table and chairs and we felt it was worth the upgrade. We thoroughly enjoyed this hotel and would definitely would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.
Review 5:neighbours who move furniture and talk too loudly into the wee hours.noise seems to echo through the building.
Review 6:location is beautiful. food was very good.staff were really pleasant and helpful.
Review 7:The lack of information available about the hotel facilities. We were disappointed with the dining experience - the room was very canteen like and the evening food was poor. There is no available parking, only on street parking which is not easy.
Review 8:The location directly on the beach is great. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Review 9:The restaurant was like a school canteen with very bright lights, plastic trolleys, mediocre buffet .. And three 45 min shifts so rushed and not relaxing at all. Could easily be improved. The swimming pool was closed. The Lino floor in the room was broken in places.
Review 10:The location was great. Right by the sea with a lovely safe sandy beach and a few restaurants and cafes all nearby.
Review 11:Evening meal was an absolute disaster, what a joke lay your own table ie mats cutlery, food was terrible Works canteen comes to mind.
Review 12:Location, towels, linen Excellent.
Review 13:No air conditioning, so I bit warm at night
Review 14:Excellent location, hotel extends over the ocean where you can comfortably catch sun on the terrace over a drink and then jump in the ocean for a quick cool off. Hotel is right in the center of Medano
Review 15:Everything about the hotel, the food was shocking, the sunbeds and outside seating was all reserved, most chairs was empty but reserved You can not use the swimming pool Seats was saved for customers not staying in the hotel. We had coffee standing up, at night after a visit to the restaurant , we had to leave and eat out of the hotel, all the food was cold. Terrible hotel
Review 16:The view
Review 17:Sea hitting the back of the hotel keeping me a wake at night, as I'm a light sleeper.
Review 18:Room very clean & smart Hotel in was very nice Great sun bathing area right by the beach
Review 19:Personally I didn't like the canteen type experience of the dining , but realise that with that number of people it would be hard to do much else !!
Review 20:Comfort , cleanliness ,staff nothing too much trouble . Right on the beach ,couldn't be better !
Review 21:The half-board was included and was sometimes OK, but aimed firmly at the German market and food of very poor quality.
Review 22:The cleaning and kitchen staff were great, especially a couple of the waitresses, really friendly and interested.
Review 23:Despite not having the right room ready the staff soon sorted that out the next day. But we lost a day and our 1st night was valentines night.
Review 24:Staff very friendly, facilities basic but functional. location in Medano is great with superb views of the beach and Mount Roja.
Review 25:The noise in the dining room, there is no sound absorbation and the character is more that of an army canteen than a restaurant.
Review 26:The laid back athmosphere. Close to the Airport (Sur), it only takes 7 minutes to go there by local taxi (140 km/h).
Review 27:The position of the hotel right over the beach was wonderful. The sun decks overlooking the sea and with direct access were an unexpected pleasure. Sitting on our balcony watching the sunset with a glass of wine was a very enjoyable experience.
Review 28:unless you get a balcony room dont bother the others are like coffins ,absolutely awful ,they say 3 star more like 1..the recption staff lady was rude and when i offered to pay more to upgrade she said we wernt staying long enough to do this , never again
Review 29:location perfect
Review 30:Minor dislike - dining room for evening meal was very bright - no atmosphere.
Review 31:Great location. Had excellent room with balcony overlooking the sea and the Montana Roja. We were half-board - selection of food was very good.
Review 32:Ambience in restaurant not good...too much like canteen, and food quality disappointing.
Review 33:Great position beside bustling town square but quiet at night because pedestrianised area. Friendly helpful staff. Loved the steps from deck to sea.
Review 34:Except for location and views nothing is actually good. Very old furniture and interior. balcony is so smal that it is practically unusable. NO AIR condoitioner - receptionist said rooms are cool enough not have it - not true, if balcony door closed, it gets very hot. On reception you can stay and wait for 10-15 min while the only receptionist is on phone...
Review 35:Location is really ideal for those who want to stay in Medano, Exellent views on sunrise, sunset, sea, etc. Rooms are spacy
Review 36:With so many guests the buffet dinner could have been more varied although what we had was good. The breakfast coffee and orange juice are to be avoided.
Review 37:Perfect for a night before/ after flight from north airport. Excellent location for a good walk along coast in either direction and a chance to see some birds. Good buffet dinner and breakfast.
Review 38:Very low food quality (both for dinner and breakfast). The room was very noisy and hot. Fortunately it has been the only bad experience in tenerife.
Review 39:Position close to the airport for the check out day. The tejita beach very close. The staff it's nice.
Review 40:WiFi is only accessible in and by the lobby on the ground floor, and the bandwidth and speed of the connection might be better/
Review 41:The location is excellent, even though the place may be noise when public events take place in the evening on the central square of El Medano town (we happened to come across the Canarian folklore festival).
Review 42:Unable to get hot drinks in room
Review 43:Room position
Review 44:Thin walls between adjoining rooms, was woken up by someone watching TV in the early hours
Review 45:Nice views and the breakfast was good
Review 46:It is an old hotel and the plumbing is awful
Review 47:Internet connection is very slow. It would be good to have a gym.
Review 48:Location Very clean Fair breakfast and dinner
Review 49:Room was basic: very small TV, no minibar, no aircondition. Noisy in the dining room.
Review 50:Location and terrasse , views and stairs into the sea are great
Review 51:Food was very basic
Review 52:Location and sun decks
Review 53:Reception staff ( Romano) made a huge effort to change our room and generally all were helpful, as were the restaurant and house-keeping staff.
Review 54:Hotel is very central and right on the beach. Great view from our balcony over the bay and also up to Teide.
Review 55:The food
Review 56:Location
Review 57:Bus service to Los cristianos
Review 58:Close to beach
Review 59:No aircon - and it was hot! Beds cheap. Food OK, but not great.
Review 60:Good setting by the sea, friendly staff.
Review 61:No wifi and AC in the rooms
Review 62:Good spot, good view
Review 63:Your team were all excellent, helpful and friendly. We will be back again. Thank you.
Review 64:Self service canteen restaurant. limited facilities in hotel and Wi-Fi not available in room
Review 65:Location and access to Sea, helpful staff and clean room
Review 66:It is a nice hotel right on the beach, actually extending into the the sea. From the rooms one has an awesome sea view and sound of ocean swell.
Review 67:Need to start providing free WiFi in all rooms.
Review 68:Nice balcony with excellent view!
Review 69:no sherry available at the hotel bar!
Review 70:Unspoilt . Spanish character and very clean .Beautiful sea and scenery beneath and above it. Superb fresh fish
Review 71:Wifi was not very good at the room in which I was accommodated.
Review 72:View from the balcony, Beach, Restaurant
Review 73:Never any complaints
Review 74:Location Location Location
Review 75:Perfect location, right on the beach, beautiful afternoon sun on balcony, sleep with sound of waves. Friendly management!
Review 76:food,disapointing
Review 77:location
Review 78:nothing to dislike
Review 79:Very friendly staff superb location
Review 80:Food quality wasn't brilliant
Review 81:Cleanliness
Review 82:Pool was closed all week and maintenance was being done on our floor solots of banging about
Review 83:Location was great ,food was lovely and waitresses were very attentive
Review 84:Would not stay half board again as food and restaurant not for me. Food adequate, but the restaurant not a place to linger. Has stunning views but is more like a canteen than a restaurant. So many fabulous places to eat nearby too.
Review 85:Location stunning, wonderful views of the sea and Red Mountain. Loved the bustling square of El Medano which is right outside the hotel. Nice cafe's and restaurants in El Medano. Hotel very clean and bright, towels changed twice a day. Helpful and efficient staff. Cannot wait to go back to Hotel Medano - loved the hotel and the town. Be warned though! It is very windy!
Review 86:The food! Dinner and breakfast was included in the price so I wasn't expecting amazing but both my friend and I were highly disappointed. Stuck to eating out the rest of the time.
Review 87:The location right next to the beach. Also the hotel staff was friendly.
Review 88:Nothing
Review 89:Location perfect. Helpful staff. Clean. Great value for money. Comfortable rooms, The food is good but not exceptional. I would recommend it to all.
Review 90:Tiny swimming pool. Diningroom
Review 91:Close proximity to the sea and the square. Comfortable, clean bedroom and bed. Good bathroom. Lovely sundeck and access to the water.
Review 92:Would have liked some instructions for restaurant at dinner as we didn't know whether to sit down or whether to help ourselves until other guests told us
Review 93:Wheelchair access good though we had to take the footrests off to get in one of the lifts. Really liked bar seating area and view from restaurant
Review 94:Could do with some extra tables for breakfast as had to wait a few times but that is all !
Review 95:Desk staff and bar staff were excellent , room was kept spotless
Review 96:the food in restaurant - would have preferred to have been able to book bed and breakfast only as the dinner was very dissappointing
Review 97:Staff and room and location
Review 98:Old and ugly dump with broken tiles as floors, old and dirty bathroom with no shower soap nor shampoo. Extremely noisy, the person next door had a nasty cough and we could hear this loud and clear. This hotel however does profile itself as 3 star hotel but does not provide any services justifying the 3 stars. It is insanely expensive for what it is, the buffet is awful and we did not even bother to eat there the second night. Due to lack of other options in el medano this hotel will remain to have visitors, Which in 2014 seems unimaginable. In which other hotel do you have to pay for a remote control for a iPad sized tv that did not even work to begin with. Horrible and stay away from this dump!
Review 99:Nothing except the location and the charm of the small village.
Review 100:In general the hotel is underinvested in, mediocre-quality food (although plentiful), no wi-fi in the rooms (and poor quality in the lobby), old and overused furniture, old and overused towels and bedsheet, virtually no bathroom supplies (just a thin cheap soap bar; a receptionist put us in a room without sea view (although we had paid for sea view), the next day they put us in a sea-view room but with a foul cigarette smell.
Review 101:Excellent location and ocean view, room cleaned daily.
Review 102:the breakfast and dinner is abundant in quantity but very low in quality.
Review 103:location is amazing, the staff very friendly and helpful, the bed comfortable, and the room and common areas clean.
Review 104:No access from a road with cases was v difficult especially as disabled lift too small rooms v sparce nd basic bathroom dirty no luxury here balcony too small rooms nd hallways made us think we were staying in an old boarding school the restaurant looked like a school canteen nd food looked awful nd did not smell good not appetizing could be so much better with money spent on it nd for the money could have stayed somewhere else for better standard had to eat out as could not cope with smell of the restaurant so not worth paying half board
Review 105:Location was fantastic gorgeous beach great idea of being built into sea good local bars restaurants nd ideal location for getting into sea activities food in bar in hotel excellent nd generous
Review 106:The room we had with private balcony was fantastic. We like the hotel because it is so close to the sea and we were lulled to sleep each night by the sound of the waves.
Review 107:The smell of drains in the bedroom!
Review 108:The position of the hotel is amazing. As is its laid back ambience and acceptance of guests dripping through the reception area on their way back from the beach. I loved this hotel and intend to return as soon as possible!
Review 109:wouldnt rave about the breakfast. Coffee machine was terrible hot food not very edible everything else was great & large selection I had a nice meal at the restauarant down stairs Bit too much of a "quiet" vibe for our liking But other people there seemed very relaxed & maybe just wanted that ? :)
Review 110:Nice sea view location. Nice comfy room & bed balcony with sea view was a plus The sound of the waves crashing on the hotel was lovely & relaxing :) Front desk very helpful & friendly.
Review 111:the restaurant could have done with some tablecovers and the tables set out nicely. it felt more like a works canteen. also closing at 9.30 pm
Review 112:the central location and sun decks
Review 113:Bathrooms could do with an update. Other guests smoking on balconies. The bar closed at 21:30 which we found a bit strange but there areplenty of bars close by.
Review 114:The location, friendly staff and the basic but varied food. The viewfrom our balcony was great.
Review 115:Location is also close to main square so can be very very noisy during festival times as concerts, shows, films, etc. are staged there. Beach also very crowded on festival days.
Review 116:Great location on the beach. Rooms were clean and comfortable, staff pleasant and helpful, food good (very good for vegetarians as plenty of fresh salads). Close to airport so taxis are affordable.
Review 117:Slightly dated, beds not the most comfortable but not complaining at this price.
Review 118:Generous sized room, clean. Friendly helpful reception. Setting on the beach with terrace over the water - very nice.
Review 119:evening meals were adequate but not exciting enough lighting in dining room too bright people putting towels on sunbeds and not turning up for three hours
Review 120:location right over the water access from sundeck straight into sea rooms with balcony looking over the sea reception staff were super breakfasts were varied
Review 121:The hotel is in a pedestrian area so if you arrive by car you have to find a rare onstreet parking space and then walk 5 or 10 minutes to the hotel. The restaurant is a self service canteen where dinner is run in three 45 minute shifts starting 18.30. Food is adequate but no ambience at all.
Review 122:Reception had good english so could explain by telephone how to find the place. The situation, directly on the beach, is good and the rooms with sea view balconies are very nice. It is good for someone with no car wanting an overnight stay en route to or from Tenerife sud airport as it would be short taxi, or perhaps bus ride.
Review 123:The restaurant lived up to all the other reviews which said it was verycanteen like and the food a bit ordinary. The next time we book here(and we will) we will probably just book room only and try some of themany good restaurants that have sprung up in this alternative 'bo-ho' resort.
Review 124:The location is unique and if the Spanish authorities in Madrid had hadtheir way it would have been demolished years ago (built on land ownedby the Marine Authorities). The battle for its continuance rages onwhich may explain why there has not been a lot of money invested onrefurbishing the place. It is clean and fresh though and all the betterfor not being 'modernized'. We loved it. Sea view room a must.We live on Tenerife and El Medano is our idea of getting away from whatis the norm as far as beach resorts go.
Review 125:Food not so great
Review 126:Location and friendly and helpful staff - especially the lady on reception
Review 127:The evening meal closed too early
Review 128:Our balcony overlooking the sea and the square
Review 129:the staff. and seaviews. Beautiful Beach.
Review 130:Included food a buffet, generous quantity, but not great, very Germanic.
Review 131:Rooms are above the sea, hotel, is built on a pier. Food is included.
Review 132:evening meal not special ,ate out most nights.
Review 133:relaxed atmosphere ,views and locality.amenities good
Review 134:Nice and clean staff very friendly good location nice food
Review 135:in a pleasant, small, coastal village - good connection to paths and close to the airport
Review 136:Very dirty bathroom (not cleaned even after feedback) no hair dryer, no shampoo, conditioner etc (only bar soap) Mediocre food
Review 137:Great location
Review 138:The pool.
Review 139:Loved the position and the views from our room. Restaurant staff were very good.
