Reviews for Hotel Azkue

Review 1:For a boutique hotel, the cash and carry food is too obvious.

Review 2:We enjoyed the informal atmosphere and the room sizes. We had good night rests despite the location on the busy road. We appreciate the quality of the food and consistency of the service.

Review 3:We should have read the web info more carefully – this hotel is a good 3 miles from Getaria and stands alone in the countryside. Sat-nat had quite a struggle finding it. The welcome was very warm, and so was the room – no aircon ! Fear of biting flies versus heat insomnia presented an invidious choice.

Review 4:It’s a pretty basic hotel, but at the price was fair value. The unexpectedly spacious dining room served an excellent Basque dinner and the informal terrace outside was fine for a relaxed drink after a day in town.

Review 5:Breakfast was lovely, but proper toast would've been nice. We were served rounds of a baguette toasted, which wasn't as lovely as the local bread we were served 2 years ago.

Review 6:Excellent location and friendly service. It's our second time there and we were very pleased again. Their restaurant serves excellent food, very filling and tasty.

Review 7:Smelling farm around, Poor breakfast - day before in SOS del Rey Catolic - for the same money - 100 times better. Location have misunderstanding with booking com and GPS pointing on map.

Review 8:Really everything average, have been saw better places for the same money.

Review 9:On the map it looks like the hotel is at the side of the E5 motorway, but it's actually on the GI-3391 to Getaria (worth a visit but a precarious road). The motorway runs through a tunnel a few hundred feet below the hotel and although you can hear and see the traffic as it approaches the tunnel it's hardly a problem. No noise can be heard in the room.

Review 10:The location is lovely, set in the hills about 15 minutes inland from Getaria, with beautiful views from the balcony. Decoration and furniture were very tasteful and not the usual dark brown Spanish stuff. Excellent bathroom and shower and everything very clean. A good breakfast of bread, cake, fruit, cheese, salami etc. Evening meal was good value for the fixed price menu, which includes a bottle of wine. The 4th generation owner was a very pleasant Basque lady who speaks French as well as Spanish, Basque, but little English. She takes very good care of the hotel and the guests. No tea/coffee in the room but we always take a travel kettle and UHT milk sachets.

Review 11:Very friendly staff. Hotel in a beautiful location. Perfect stop on our long journey from Portugal through to England. Good local food in restaurant. Cheerful bar frequented by the locals.

Review 12:The owner was very welcoming and friendly. He arranged a well priced taxi into the centre of Getaria for us. He is a very smart man and obviously into archaeology with lots of historic objects through the hotel, its very interesting to stay there. We had a balcony on the room which would be nice to use in Summer time.

Review 13:wifi weak on our floor. Had to go downstairs to receive. Difficult to cool room Opened windows, bugs got in

Review 14:Handy for the North Basque resorts inc. San Sebastian. Parking free & accessible

Review 15:A bit over-priced compared to other properties (although a single room at about half the price of a double is good value).

Review 16:The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful (particularly the front desk) The location is in the middle of nowhere, but not too far from anywhere. Free parking on site. Food quality in the restaurant is good; copious breakfast.

Review 17:Rural setting, friendly staff.

Review 18:HOTEL WAS DIFFICULT TO FIND DUE TO NEW ROAD NETWORK. NO SATNAV BUT LOCALS VERY HELPFUL

Review 19:THE WELCOME WAS GREAT,HOTEL ROOM EXCELLANT .GOOD FOOD

Review 20:Great little hotel, very friendly staff, furnished to a very high level with lovely views. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 21:A very welcoming & comfortable hotel in a lovely location. I will definitely stay here again.

Review 22:Being bitten by the local bugs, WiFi a bit poor

Review 23:Liked the meals, comfortable bed.

Review 24:hard to find sat nav not helpful

Review 25:good food comfortable rooms and beds

Review 26:Road traffic.

Review 27:Clean comfortable bedroom and shower room.

Review 28:Booking.com gps how to get there on the phone app was useless, takes you onto a motorway and in the middle of a long tunnel tells you you have arrived! A more specific address is necessary for this hotel, street or road and number.

Review 29:Very friendly receptionist and staff, simple but adequate breakfast, close to coastal towns of Zumaia, Getaria and Zarautz

Review 30:Nothing.

Review 31:Delightful owners who told us the history of the property and gave us an excellent deal, a good dinner. We had a lovely walk in the semi-alpine countryside.

Review 32:A cosy hotel with a warm welcome. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was simple and delicious. The location is quiet and there's free parking. The rooms were furnished and finished to a high and comfortable standard, especially within this price bracket. We will definitely stop here, again.

Review 33:The promised mountain view from the balcony was largely a view of an electricity pylon. The hotel was rather out in the wilds and the roads to it were not particularly conducive to returning in hours of darkness.

Review 34:The owner was very helpful and obliging, even though we had to communicate with her in a mixture of Spanish and French.

Review 35:Some of the food was a little disappointing considering the rave reviews we'd seen on line. The hotel is actually in Meaga 4k from Getaria.

Review 36:The friendliness, helpfulness and genuine care of the owners of the hotel. The in-room facilities for a budget hotel were excellent especially the shower.

Review 37:I really enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is packed with interesting artefacts and has a very quiet and relaxed atmosphere. The information and support given is excellent. I would definitely return.

Review 38:Pretty well everything. The hotel owner was very helpful in every way. I left a cheap £1.50 pair of reading glasses, he emailed me straight away asking for my home address so that he could forward them on

Review 39:Do not understand why anyone would give a good review of the restaurant as the food was awful and overpriced. Food seemed to come from tins or jars, for example the veg stew. The cheesecake was actually inedible. No other restaurants nearby, Getaria is only 4km away but massive altitude difference, walking not recommended. Very small TV if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Review 40:Free car park is always good (though also necessary). Man on reception was helpful and friendly.

Review 41:It is a hotel run by unusual old people with not a lot of customer service skills. It's kind of like staying at grumpy grandmas place.

Review 42:Very efficient no nonsense man on reception. Rooms were clean.

Review 43:Difficult to find.

Review 44:About 4 Km form San Sebastian, the hotel though hard to locate, is in peaceful countryside with a small but excellent restaurant. The staff (probably the owners) were always pleasant and ready to assist or to advise. The room, recently refurbished to high standard, was entirely adequate and most comfortable. For short stays, it is an excellent choice, though for those seeking a longer vacation base, it may prove to be too isolated .

Review 45:A little difficult to find as the directions given didn't make any sense. We found it quite by accident as we followed the sign for Meaga from Getaria.

Review 46:Lovely room with a nice balcony. Very clean and staff were really nice and helpful. Very picturesque location with lovely mountain views. Not far from Getaria seaside town.

Review 47:Twenty minute drive into Donastia/ San Sebastian. One hour to Guggenheim.

Review 48:Friendly accommodating hosts. Good restaurant. Unbeatable prices. Short trip to into Getaria and Balenciaga Museum. Quiet comfortable rooms with many Basque antiques.

Review 49:Motorway noise (a distant, near constant 'swish'), when room windows open. Problem on hot summer nights?

Review 50:Handy for Getaria. Close to motorway, for a quick overnight stop/start.

Review 51:Extra pillows for over bolster would be nice. But didn't spoil our overall experience.

Review 52:Cosy hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice bar and restaurant area.

Review 53:Everyone was very nice and the views were wonderful!

Review 54:very quit hotel, big shower

Review 55:Amazing pet friendly hotel located in a lovelly chilled mountain countryside place.

Review 56:Very helpful and friendly staff. Clean well-appointed rooms with great food available in the restaurant.

Review 57:The Shower

Review 58:The food is exellent!

Review 59:Very helpful and friendly staff. Comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.

Review 60:that we could not stay longer

Review 61:stylish quiet very friendly people nice surroundings clean
