Reviews for Saiaz Getaria Hotela
Review 1:Such an excellent hotel we couldn't believe it wasn't 5 stars. Mikel is a wonderful host and has great stories to tell about his family's improvement of "the ruins." Hard to imagine when you see it now, excellent taste down to every detail. Our favorite hotel ever!
Review 2:The view from our room was amazing (room 11). It was fairly small but there were also plenty of common living areas where one could spend time (inside and out). The hotel is quiet and cozy & the breakfast was delicious!
Review 3:room very small, specially for the price paid for two previous little hotels which we are rating excellent. 50% more. If you came in in a car the access is impossible.
Review 4:the view is about the only positive as the room goes. but less than we expected
Review 5:If you have a car it is possible to drive up the narrow street and offload luggage and passengers. Free parking in the town but we parked down at the port which is free from 20:00 until 10:00. It is a short hike up to the hotel from the port.
Review 6:Nothing.
Review 7:Located in the old town. Close to the Balenciaga museum and the port. The desk clerks were very helpful. The room was very comfortable and furnished very nicely. Great view of the ocean from the common room and the common terrace. Parked on the street nearby for free. Good price for such a nice hotel!!
Review 8:A lot of chalk on shower appliances, which could be easily cleaned, cover of ventilation on the ceiling in the bedroom needs an aesthetic make over. A few small things could be improved but the lovely staff really makes up for this
Review 9:The staff was very friendly, brought our bags to the room while we parked the car (even though there was just one person at the reception) and offered to guard our surfboards in the meeting room. Very nice! The day of departure we asked for recommendations for our trip and received many great tips. The view from the room was incredible
Review 10:Breakfast was meagre- no offer of a second cup of coffee. No replenishment of hot food when it had already run out on our first day.
Review 11:It was worth paying extra for the room overlooking the bay, where we enjoyed watching the surfers.
Review 12:There were no tea / coffee facilities in the room.
Review 13:The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Lovely location by the sea. The overall experience at this hotel was very enjoyable and would definitely stay here again.
Review 14:No parking at the hotel (narrow street) but plenty of parking nearby at 10 euros for 24 hours.
Review 15:Very comfortable, excellent location in the town, fantastic sea view. Excellent local restaurants.
Review 16:Fantastic small village, easy t walk around, the Hotel is very well located and the staff is very feindly, Getaira has also a wonderfull FAHSION Museum form BALENCIAGA
Review 17:Nothing - except a couple of things to be aware of: - street is very narrow so drive with caution - hotel only has 2 parking slots (which you can see why) and if you don't reserve the free car park is 10-15mins uphill.
Review 18:This hotel really is like the pictures! Lots of character and pleasant public rooms. Fantastic sea view from room and public balcony/decking. Genuine, friendly service. Wifi was good for us in all areas. Located centrally in this little fishing village.
Review 19:Glass door to bathroom so if someone got up during the night the other was woken by the light
Review 20:The location is fabulous. The room was beautiful. Perfectly situated for Elkano and Kaia-Kaipea.
Review 21:The staff was exceptionally gracious, personable, and accommodating. The views were jaw-dropping. The town itself is beautiful, walkable, friendly, and perfectly located for day trips. The hotel was lovely, scrupulously clean and comfortable.
Review 22:Amazing views - the sea view rooms are a no-brainer. Book one of those. We were mesmerized by the view. The most picturesque and beautiful accommodations of our entire trip. The property is quaint and fits perfectly in this little fishing village.
Review 23:The only problem with the hotel was spotty WiFi access except in the main lobby. Small notes: parking can be a bit of a walk from the hotel, and the town is built on a steep hillside with stairways between some of the streets.
Review 24:This is a lovely hotel on a historic, medieval lane in a beautiful seaside town. Excellent seafood restaurants all around town--we especially loved Txoka and Mayflower--friendly people, easy access to Donastia/San Sebastian, Camino de Santiago runs right through town--all in all, a fabulous place to get to know the Basque Country of Spain.
Review 25:Wifi was good when we were given a router for the bedroom but patchy otherwise. Difficult to find with our sat Nav so we parked up and found it on foot...which wasn't a chore.
Review 26:Friendly, helpful staff; near to restaurants; clean, attractive decor; lovely views from the bedroom. Breakfast had variety, with freshly squeezed orange juice. Parking on the street was easy off season....I wonder what the high season is like. Loved the fact that the town is a working fishing port. Fabulous fish in the restaurants, fresh and well cooked. I read the previous reviews and was advised to pay extra for a sea view. Definitely agree and thanks to whoever it was for the tip!
Review 27:The hotel is perfectly situated in the old part of the small town with a few nice tapas bars and good restaurants just around the corner. I loved the medieval charm of the building with its brick walls, the dark wood beams and antique furniture. The big bathroom was new, modern and very clean. Our room was facing the small alleyway of the old town but it was surprisingly quiet. Best was the great ocean view from the hotel balcony and the breakfast room.
Review 28:twin beds side by side, room facing the belltower
Review 29:location is awesome, right on the water; super friendly and helpful staff; nice relaxing facility - homelike, easy to be comfortable there.
Review 30:We booked a room with a sea view and that is what we got and what a sea view it is, It's well worth paying the extra for a superior room. We could not fault the hotel, lovely staff, great location.
Review 31:We enjoyed our stay in this beautifully rennovated hotel in a lovely part of the Basque country. All the staff were friendly and very helpful and gave us information about local events which enriched our holiday experience.
Review 32:The ringing church bell starting at 7am every day. They were very close and loud.
Review 33:The town and walking areas were very nice, it had many paths that you could walk by the ocean.
Review 34:nothing.
Review 35:This small hotel is superb with very friendly service. A room with a sea view is well worth the extra cost. Breakfast is excellent. The hotel has a small garage with 2 spaces so advisable to pre-book a space if needed. Getaria is a fantastic place with outstanding sea food restaurants at reasonable cost.
Review 36:Difficult car access Poor Wi-fi connection Poor choice of drinks in the bar ( Can't buy wine by the glass!!)
Review 37:Central position Excellent sea view Very comfortable room Pleasant staff.
Review 38:very near to church with bells from 7pm tot 11am; ugly new buildings on the coastline; very small chamber in the attic with very small window
Review 39:good breakfast and friendly helpfull staff
Review 40:The young lady at the front desk went out of her way to find information for our return to San Sebastian the next day, since we had gotten there by public bus transportation. beautiful hotel inside, nice spacious rooms, we could hear the church bell every hour, which gave it an even better atmosphere. Breakfast was good.
Review 41:Can't think of anything.............
Review 42:Pretty much everything. It was the first time we had visited the town, and we would not hesitate to stay here again. A beautiful old building, tasteful decor, helpful staff and the location perfect. A little-known area of Spain in terms of the British market and little English spoken outside the hotel (which we like). We walked the coastal path to Zarautz to find there was a Basque Festival in progress, which was fantastic. Getaria, we will visit again.
Review 43:Nothing to dislike.
Review 44:Location, historical building with beautiful rooms and comfy beds and just a short walk to waterfront fish restaurants; absolutely perfect.
Review 45:You have to park your car outside the old town and walk in. It can be very difficult to find somewhere to park for free on Summer weekends when the Spanish flock in - but we managed it!
Review 46:Beautifully restored character hotel in the old town. Friendly, English speaking staff. Spotlessly clean and stylishly furnished with a mix of modern and antique. Everything on the doorstep.
Review 47:The first night kept awake by local church bells, remember to ask for a room away from bells.
Review 48:The staff were very friendly and so helpful. Lovely hotel, nothing was too hard for them. Beautiful view from our room.
Review 49:The very friendly and helpful staff. The view from our window and the breakfast room.
Review 50:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The views across the sea fantastic.

Review 75:Only the fact that there was two single beds instead of one double-bed
Review 76:Very nice staff, reasonable price, good value for money.
Review 77:Not good wifi but they did have portable modems
Review 78:Great staff & great location, couldnt have got a better place to stay!!

Review 88:Parking facilities very far from the hotel.
Review 89:Really nice hotel in the middle of the village. Very good beds
Review 90:ALMOST everything
Review 91:Noise from slamming doors.
Review 92:In the heart of the historic area; close to restaurants; very helpful staff.
Review 93:Perhaps more variety of fresh fruit at breakfast. Difficulty in parking as the hotel is situated on a narrow cobblestone street but we were prepared for this and fortunately able to reserve garage parking with the hotel.
Review 94:From the moment of arrival we received nothing but the best attention from staff particularly the lovely receptionist. Our room was comfortable with an extra living area and sofa bed and a wonderful view of the beach and coastline. The hotel is small and intimate with a contemporary interior design. Very good fish restaurants are within walking distance. Highly recommended.
Review 95:The owners were especially delightful and so wanting to assist you in any way you needed. The Hotel in all aspects was one with no hesitations to return to in the future.
Review 96:A warm welcome. All the staff were well informed, speaking excellent English. The town was in the midst of its annual Fishing celebrations & these activities which made the town very active.
Review 97:Booked this hotel based on reviews we read and were not disappointed. All fabulous, even though it rained most of time. Pay extra for sea view( even if room smaller than others.
Review 98:Nothing!!! So good!
Review 99:We loved the sea view and very efficient and friendly staff who went to great lengths to ensure a great break. Spotless and central. There is also free visitor parking area behind hotel on seafront. Three or four terrific fish restaurants nearby. Brilliant over all!
Review 100:Nothing!
Review 101:We had a room with a terrific view of the water. The hotel is within walking distance to everything. The hotel is clean and comfortable, and the hotel staff is great. The town of Getaria is definitiely worth a visit.
Review 102:Fabulous town, wonderful food, Hotel is built on a narrow ridge above the bay where you can watch the surfers from your room with a floor to ceiling glass wall. We chose the old style room with wooden shutters looking north with our own balcony and view of red tile roofs, the church bell tower and the ocean in the back ground. Just wonderful!!!! This is a superior hotel and staff; just sorry we were not staying much longer.
Review 103:bathroom could be better, but that`s minor
Review 104:room with sea views and sound of waves. lovely furnishings, good breakfast again with sea view, helpful receptionists
Review 105:There is absolutely nothing to dislike.
Review 106:We were travelling with our dogs and had a superb room overlooking the bay. The hotel is an old townhouse with loads of character. We had booked a space in their garage . . . Getaria old town is three beautiful old streets going along the narrow strip with the bay on one side and the calmer - again sandy larger bay with harbour for fishing fleet and yachts and motorboats plus a designated bathing area. We ate at the May Flower [a fish grill restaurant] overlooking the port - superb; there is a large Balenciaga museum on the hill but we didn't visit. We spent a lot of time on their balcony with the dogs chilling out after our long drive the day before. Breakfast was very nice: buffet with bacon and Spanish omelette as the hot offering - again in a room overlooking the wilder smaller sandy bay. WiFi was excellent. We had a great stay and the staff were very pro our two dogs. We will stay there again next time we drive down to Spain
Review 107:The wall between our room and the hallway wasn't at all soundproof, so we could hear people coming and going.
Review 108:The historic character of our room was wonderful. The staff wrre very friendly and even though we'd sat at a table away from the window for breakfast when a table was vacated a few minutes later, they asked if we'd like to move there and promptly cleared it for us.
Review 109:Room service (light snacks) would have been awesome, but they have an excellent selection of wines to choose from and the breakfast spread was delicious.
Review 110:We had a wall full of windows that looked out on the ocean and could hear the sounds of the ocean at night. The view was breath-taking and when we wanted to stay another night, the staff managed to squeeze us in!
Review 111:-the hotel is absolutely charming, the view spectacular and the staff very helpful and friendly. A wonderful design that combines comfort and style with an incredible historic building.
Review 112:Everything excellent at hotel, but car parking tricky and limited. We parked in a side street for safety.
Review 113:Very obliging staff, comfortable room, magnificent views, enchanting environment. Delicious breakfast.
Review 114:Worth paying a little extra for the sea view which was just spectacular. Staff all charming and very helpful, giving some really good recommendations. The absence of a car park was a very minor inconvenience. Really glad we chose Getaria and this hotel in particular. A memorably lovely stay.
