Reviews for Hotel Itxas Gain Getaria

Review 1:Nothing bad could be said this hotel is lovely and would return with joy.

Review 2:Amazing gem of a hotel, nothing too much trouble.Beautiful room and view from terrace amazing.private parking at a fee but worth it. Breakfast is a feast not to be missed, lovely friendly hotel.

Review 3:Parking is a little inconvenient, but workable.

Review 4:Great location. Helpful and friendly staff. Terrace has a nice view of the sea. Good wifi. Best 6 Euro breakfast! Very comfortable bed.

Review 5:We had the choice between two rooms, One on the 1st floor the other on the 3rd. Both were very nice and we opted for the 3rd floor although we were warned it could be more noisy than on the first floor. For those fragile to street noise, I don't recommend the 3rd floor. For us it wasn't a problem.

Review 6:Everything! The authentic decor of the rooms (we had room 301 - all wood sealing), the delicious breakfast served on the terrasse with an exceptional view on the sea, the wine/drinks self-service we could benefit from (we had the terrasse to ourselves one night and drank a great bottle of wine just contemplating the view and the sound of the waves), the shower, the staff.

Review 7:A very comfortable , friendly, informal atmosphere, with fabulous views from the terrace available to all the residents at all times. Well placed to explore the fishing port and village on foot. Plenty of very good restaurants.

Review 8:Having to leave

Review 9:This is a fantastic, value for money Hotel with a beautiful location and the most helpful, caring and friendly staff. Breakfast alone is worth the stay, especially the cake!!

Review 10:Free parking is a problem in this village at 10 euro a day unless you park out of town however the buses are fantastic & very cheap so a trip to San Sebastián was only 2.35 euros

Review 11:Lovely village with many fantastic fish restaurants

Review 12:In peak season there is no free parking nearby (even on the coast area you have to pay) so it's worth to use the garage offered by the hotel. The variety of the breakfast was not that good, but with the view it is worth. The floor of our room was dirty when we arrived, maybe the wind brought in the dust.

Review 13:The view from the terrace is great, having a breakfast there is recommended. The staff also let us spend our time there in the evening/night. The bathroom is nice with great shower box.

Review 14:Slightly deceptive description of the room. Little atmosphere in hotel.

Review 15:Location, friendly staff. Very pleasant room and excellent bathroom. Coffee machine in room.

Review 16:No air-conditioning, although there was a fan which worked well. Remote parking

Review 17:View from balcony and garden. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious.

Review 18:Extreme road noise all day and all through the night. Major construction work in adjacent apartment block priduced even more noise through the day

Review 19:Very polite & helpful family run business. Spotlessly clean

Review 20:Not much insulation between rooms.

Review 21:Lovely location with unbelievable view. Must have the breakfast, good view and good value. Service was wonderful. Everything within walking distance.

Review 22:The owners were wonderful- extremely hospitable and helpful. Breakfast on the terrace was generous and good quality. We visited other hotels in the area as we were there for a wedding and felt really lucky we has chosen Itxas Gain. Great value for money.

Review 23:The hotel was very clean and comfortable. Bathroom could perhaps do with a little updating. Very welcoming and helpful family. Fantastic sea views and very convenient for the town.

Review 24:Tub is not sealed and if not careful you will end up with water all over the bathroom floor. We were "locked in" in the morning and unsure what to do to get out.

Review 25:Personal service, honor bar, the view.

Review 26:next time I would ask for a room facing the sea. The size of our room was adequate but there were larger rooms with better views which I would have preferred. Not really a criticism but something to be aware of.

Review 27:The view from the breakfast balcony was amazing and the hotel was very central. The breakfast was delicious and the staff very helpful.

Review 28:The room was spotless, welcoming people. Beautiful little terrace overlooking the ocean. beer and wine and drinks, help yourself from the fridge and write down and pay at checkout. Nothing bad at all to say. Beautiful new bathroom.

Review 29:The staff (I believe it was family run) was kind and friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable with an incredible shower. They have a beautiful view of the water from their terrace where you can enjoy drinks and breakfast. The breakfast was well done.

Review 30:Traffic can be noisy in the early morning so the double glazed veranda doors need to be kept closed.

Review 31:Breakfasting in the open air on (over!) the very edge of the cliff is a not to be missed experience. The hotel staff were extremely helpful.

Review 32:Soundproofing could be better and parking can be a bit iffy.

Review 33:Price, location (convenient for Zarautz - pleasant coastal walk - and Orio), helpful staff, breakfast, cleanliness of bathroom and room, proximity to local bars and restaurants. The hotel itself was brilliant. Visit was on a wet Friday in December.

Review 34:We expected the hotel to be noisy, from its location, but other than an early morning dustcart, we had an un disturbed night - so there was nothing to dislike.

Review 35:We liked the location, just at the top of the pedestrian streets with all the tapas bars in Getaria. If you don't want the 'full on' experience of San Sebastián, with its hundreds of tapas bars, just carry on a few miles down the coast to Getaria. The hotel is recently modernised, swish and stylish and the view from the garden terrace, a perfect place to share a bottle of Crianza from the self service bar (7€) is just stunning. We loved absolutely everything. The receptionist was extremely helpful.

Review 36:The view from the garden is excellent. Full of hospitality, especially the lady at the reception was warm hearted. Since I felt so relaxed in the garden, I didn't want to go out for a walk.

Review 37:We were in room overlooking the main road and it was a little bit noisy but not too bad.

Review 38:Lovely stylish room. Staff were very helpful and receptionist spoke excellent English. Safe parking for motorcycle (at extra cost). Breakfast on patio was really nice with great view of bay (watched surfer catching the waves). Breakfast choice v.good and appetising.

Review 39:Not enough lamps for reading at night

Review 40:Everything about this little 1 star hotel. Excellent room (304) with balcony and sea view, spotlessly clean. Very friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast with freshly squeezed orange & wide choice of dishes. Thoroughly recommend a stay here. No parking on site, but free slots available near coast.

Review 41:The location is near to a busy road, so ask for a quieter room. We asked & were given the chance to choose. But the hotel & location are so good it doesn't matter for a few days.

Review 42:Pleasant & helpful family run hotel. Plenty of nearby parking. Excellent breakfast overlooking brilliant view. In town location close to many restaurants etc. Also close to famous Spanish fashion designer exhibition centre - free for last hour.

Review 43:Difficult to drive in to drop off or pick up luggage, but well worth this small inconvenience.

Review 44:Amazing location, with a fantastic patio overlooking the bay. Breakfast is served on the patio.....one of our best experiences of a 4 week trip. Family run, and very accommodating to our lack of any Spanish.

Review 45:Nothing

Review 46:Very friendly family run hotel. Comfortable rooms. Excellent position, close to all amenities. Good wifi. Great breakfast, served on the balcony overlooking the ocean. Wonderful!

Review 47:I suppose a few people might have found traffic noise a problem in rooms over the street but we never had any sleep issues.

Review 48:All to he staff (family) went out of their way to be helpful and two of them spoke excellent English. The room was comfortable and the terrace for eating had an amazing view of the sea. Breakfast wonderful and generous.

Review 49:some traffic noise, in the morning hours, parking is some distance away

Review 50:Situated in the old town, renovated rooms, above average standard, friendly and helpful staff, stunning sea view from the terrace

Review 51:The people handling the hotel was extremely kind and helpful. Nice location

Review 52:Nothing.

Review 53:The owners are extremely pleasant & helpful. Good breakfast on terrace overlooking sea.

Review 54:No hot water in the shower

Review 55:The view from balkon in first floor

Review 56:Sour staff/ owner Noisy from road

Review 57:Generous breakfast Close to town

Review 58:Location and sea view at breakfast. Carpark location is on the hill but acces is easy by escarator.

Review 59:Breakfast at the terrasse

Review 60:Very friendly staff and excellent terrace overlooking beach

Review 61:Amazing view from balcony and the breakfast area. Also great breakfast!

Review 62:Amazing place amazing people everything amazing :)

Review 63:Breakfast not included

Review 64:Everything, central, parking near by. Room lovely, staff so friendly and extremely helpful.

Review 65:nice view to coast

Review 66:The fish restaurants were excellent. the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 67:Poor parking

Review 68:Great breakfast. If weather had been better would have eaten outside with spectacular coastal views.

Review 69:Hotel is on the main street. A little noisy on a Fri. night, but not a bad experience!

Review 70:Beautiful patio for breakfast overlooking the ocean!

Review 71:The staff was great - very friendly and helpful. The 2-person jacuzzi was heaven.

Review 72:Everything!

Review 73:The breakfast served on the terrasse overlooking the sea was excellent, could not fault the service and the view of course amazing.

Review 74:Difficulty approaching the hotel by car

Review 75:Fabulous terrace where we had drinks in the evening and breakfast next morning

Review 76:Good service , nice staff and good breakfast. In the middle of nice small old town,

Review 77:Comfort and provided everything we needed

Review 78:Friendlines, excellent location, great view and breakfast. Hotel and rooms has great decoration style.

Review 79:Excellent service

Review 80:The breakfast terrace

Review 81:Wi-fi is almost useless. Parking anywhere near the hotel on a weekend is virtually impossible. The shower is super high tech but doesn't actually do the one thing a shower is required to do.

Review 82:Breakfast on the terrace is lovely

Review 83:Shower could not be attached to the wall, only a shower in the bath tub.

Review 84:We had a pleasant room on the top floor with a small terrace overloking the coast line. Large bath(room).Nice family running the hotel.

Review 85:Nicely decorated rooms Friendly staff Elevator Terras with see views Breakfast Location Family run hotel that look after the interests of their guests. Rooms are beautiful. It feels that they have a long term approach in serving their guests (e.g. the decoration of the rooms, presence of the elevator and the breakfast that is nicely priced (6 euro) and served with fresh orange juice and home made cake)

Review 86:Breakfast not served until 8.30am which meant could not have any on meeting days as had to leave much earlier than this. Would be better if served even from 8.00am onwards as it is only continental breakfast offered.

Review 87:Very friendly family run hotel. Clean and tidy with good facilities

Review 88:Nothing not to like

Review 89:Everything was wonderful--breakfast on the terrace with a fantastic viewof the coast is not to be missed! The staff was the best in our wholethree weeks in Spain. They cooled our wine for us while we were outsightseeing, then brought it and a complimentary plate of treats to usat sunset on the terrace. Then when we left the next morning, theypresented us with a bottle of wine to take along!

Review 90:Car parking at the weekend. It was a Saturday and Sunday was a problem , as it is extremely popular with locals and visitors

Review 91:Family run, excellent service and advice on local restaurants. Located in a historic fishing village with plenty to see and do in walking distance.

Review 92:The only frustration was kids in the streets late during the school holidays...but they were genuinely having fun!

Review 93:we stayed 6 nights and loved it. The family who run the hotel are very friendly and supportive and they try very hard to assure you have a good experience. I had a fall in San Sebastian and they loaned me a heat pack for my bruises for the length of our stay. The breakfast view was great and fresh bagettes and homemade cakes yum! The son and his fiance had a good understanding of English and the use of the Internet.

Review 94:Leaving

Review 95:The view from the breakfast balcony was lovely, steep wooded hils to one side, rolling surf to the other, with the coastal road running between them. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. They didn't hesitate to help us out booking things to do, give recommendations etc. They even went to the trouble of hand writing a local recipe out for my mother in-law!

Review 96:Delightful family run hotel.Beautifully decorated with comfortable rooms and amazing modern bathrooms. Breakfast on terrace with breathtaking views and so delicious . The family are friendly and welcoming. In centre of Getaria and free parking nearby.

Review 97:The design of the room was a little bit flashy, but that's just a very minor and unimportant thing.

Review 98:Pretty much everything. The staff are super friendly, and the room was very spacious with a great view and a nice jacuzzi. The terrace where the breakfast is served is the most beautiful part.

Review 99:Can't park just outside.

Review 100:large Room, nice bathroom. Large balcony. Nice staff. Free parking all over Getaria. Nice restaurants a couple of streets away.

Review 101:This was a lovely hotel. We woke in the morning to a view of the Bay of Biscay and went to sleep watching the sun set over the water. The room was very comfortable, we had a deck with table and chairs, again set in front of the beautiful view. We loved the little town of Getaria, we enjoyed walking on the beach and watching the fishing boats come and go, and it was an easy drive to San Sebastian amidst some of the most beautiful countryside I've ever seen. Breakfast was outside, with the bay view, and was delicious. Such a nice family own and run the hotel.

Review 102:The owners were so kind and caring and did everything to make our visit enjoyable. The hotel is beautiful. Our room had a balcony overlooking the sea. The hotel should definitely be rated four stars.

Review 103:I can't think of anything I didn't like about this hotel.

Review 104:This hotel is obviously a work of pride and care from the family who run it. The appointments and fixtures are all tasteful and well chosen. The location is steps from the Balenciaga Museum and equally well situated to explore the old town. The breakfast is plentiful and well-done. The wi-fi worked well. The hosts are gracious, friendly, and helpful to the traveler. This is my favorite hotel experience in Spain on this trip.

Review 105:It's a very, very minor issue for me, but I noticed some peoplementioned parking in their reviews so I'm just adding my experiencefor more detail.True, there isn't any directly next to the hotel, but we were able to park for free down by the beach for the entire stay. It was only about a 3-5 minute walk to the car. Plus, I could watch the car from the balcony! When you pull up to the hotel, ring the bell and they can come out and remove a couple of the metal posts so you can unload the car without blocking the small road the hotel is on.

Review 106:Very friendly staff who were a delight to be hosted by. We had anamazing view of the bay from our balcony. The room was well kept and thelocation was unbeatable. Not that Getaria is very large, but the hotelwas close to everything we wanted to do.There are signs for the hotel on the road that runs through Getaria, so it ended up being the easiest hotel to find during the entire trip.

Review 107:Very friendly family who run this hotel Mother and son and ably assisted by charming girlfrend our sea view room was delightful and we were given a very good breakfast, just a pity too cold to have it on their fabulous terrace, a very good stay thank you

Review 108:Pretty little fishing village. 2 beaches - one for surfing and one for swimming. If you're coming for nightlife, this is the wrong place. Hotel is beautiful, great views and room is of very high spec if not huge.

Review 109:No parking

Review 110:The Family who run the Hotel could not have been more helpful and made every effort to make our stay enjoyable. We visited during festival week and it was very noisey but to the Hotels credit they did warn us before we visited (and supplied us with ear plugs) it did not cause us to much of a problem, and the festivities more than made up for any inconvenince. The breakfast area was superb and set us up for the day

Review 111:The hotel is modern within an old shell. The family owners more than helpful. its only draw back is its location inrelation to the noisy 'cornish road', perhaps a small price to pay for lovely views easy walking to excellant restaurants and access to all that Gretaria provides.

Review 112:we were generally lucky and found parking not too far away but clearly this might be a problem in peak seasons. a busy little town.

Review 113:easy to locate and very central for the main town. hotel room was quiet. breakfast on terrace had delightful sea view. very good breakfast.

Review 114:Not much, certainly not to put you off staying there but the road along side it is a bit busy.. But it was a bank holiday weekend.

Review 115:Our welcome was friendly and the service was excellent. It really has been furnished well, our view from the sea view double was lovely. The breakfast was simple but enjoyable and served with every care and attention. I would definitely recommend it for a short stay, the village town is worth a visit with great walks and restaurants. There are no extra hotel facilities or room service, but I would stay here anytime over choosing a modern souless block and there is a decent wifi service in the rooms. We loved it!

Review 116:Great location with friendly family running the hotel. The breakfast was really good, freshly made tortilla, homemade cake, lovely ham and cheese.

Review 117:Good value for money. Great service.
