Reviews for Gran Hotel Rey Don Jaime

Review 1:Only problem - the noise from the highway, and bad isolation of the rooms.

Review 2:Very nice hotel, good service, big rooms, very good bedding. Close to Barcelona and the beach.

Review 3:Room old fashioned. Bathroom needed a bit of refurbishment

Review 4:Staff really helpful. Close to beach and to train to commute into Barcelona. Put up to to watch el Classico

Review 5:Steam room is very poorly maintained, and not clean at all. A little dirty or poorly maintained in places. Breakfast is very expensive. Be prepared for long walks to commercial areas if no car.

Review 6:The Sauna facility and gym were excellent. Very friendly staff. Squash racquets and ball available for loan so squash courts can be used. Beautiful location and very nicely done rooms and hotel in general. The bar/swimming pool is lovely. Very close to a train that goes straight to Barcelona airport and city center. Reliable internet

Review 7:Some of the staff didn't go out of their way to help you. We upgraded our room to a room with a balcony and although that was great the bathroom light fittings were coming away from the ceiling and so it could have done with some upgrading.

Review 8:Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Liked where it was and the mix of old and new. It was a great location to mix relaxation with visiting Barcelona. The old part of the hotel was great and the views from the dining room were beautiful.

Review 9:location: more than 20 minutes in car to go to barcelona Staff: not friendly !

Review 10:clean, nice view from the restaurant terrace, comfortable. Make sure to book with breakfast coz it's really good.

Review 11:Front of house. Check in is 14.00, but we arrived at 13.50 and could not be accommodated with checking in. felt we were brusquely dismissed and told to return at 14.00. Fellow guest was late, by 2 mins, for breakfast and was plainly told to hurry up and get breakfast as they were cleaning up. While siting of hotel is magnificent....you do need a car to get out and about. Nice stroll to beach, but that climb back up the hill is a heart attack.

Review 12:Lovely hotel. Bar staff very helpful and totally on top of their job. The simple thing of remembering your drink, gives excellent impression.

Review 13:No bad experiences, everything was very good.

Review 14:Easy to find, great location for the airport, excellent food and service, excellent value for money, very comfortable. 3.5 hour drive from Valencia to collect a friend from the airport so depending on arrival or departure time, well worth an overnight stay.

Review 15:Only bad was one night the service in the restaurant was very very slow in bringing drinks after we had ordered a very long wait.the next night was better even though there was a wedding reception also in the restaurant the service was a little quicker

Review 16:The location was superb our room was very good and we were in the old part of the hotel which we loved as lots of original features. A super stay we will defiantly be back .

Review 17:Indoor pool not clean, no fitness room, just one machine in an underground hallway, the so called pergola garden has been taken over by cigarette buds and weeds. Overall state of hotel is poor, paint coming off shutters etc. Mattresses not good.

Review 18:The room was clean. Outdoor pool. View.

Review 19:Hotel is at top of a hill and over a mile to beaches. Hire car needed to visit beach and town. Windows hadn't been cleaned for a while.

Review 20:Nice hotel with comfortable rooms. Breakfast can be taken on open air veranda with lovely view. Outside pool and views of coast spectacular. Train station reasonably close to visit Barcelona

Review 21:Over the 5 days we were there for the conference, the food was almost the same each day; and with too narrow a range of different dishes to enable vegetarians to eat healthily.

Review 22:Staff could have been more friendly. Staff did not engage with us until our third and last evening. Nobody asked if we enjoyed our stay or if we needed anything..overall very poor customer care. The hotel was a good 15/20min walk to beach and a hill climb on way back - luckily we were fit enough to climb the hill! A nice hotel but would not return.

Review 23:The dinner at hotel was stunning. We were half board and felt it was great value for money.

Review 24:Difficult to get served in the bar by the pool but there was a wedding going on. Definitely need a car.

Review 25:Beautiful location. Not far from nice resort on outskirts of Barcelona city. Close enough to be able to do day trip to the city. Not far from airport but without noise. Nice beach resort close by.

Review 26:The first morning I went to breakfast at 7.45am and was given a table straight away, and the selection was good. The second morning I went to breakfast at 8.30am. The hotel was hosting some conferences, so the breakfast room was very busy. I waited some 5/6 minutes to be found a table, the waiter was more concerned about seating the conference members. When I was eventually given a table, most of the food and all the fruit juices had gone in my side of the restaurant, not very good for nearly €15. I didn't bother going for breakfast on the last morning! I think it's quite expensive in comparison to other 4*'hotel I have stayed in locally.

Review 27:The hotel is in a lovely position with views towards Barcelona and the sea. Plenty of free parking. Room was clean. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 28:we didnt have sky tv in the room when its on the information sheet of how to use the TV. Maybe get smart TVs for international news, football, rugby. Wesnt welcomed when we came into the bar and had to wait a long time to be served.

Review 29:location, view, bed, breakfast, friendly reception and breakfast staff. cleanliness. office room

Review 30:The location of the hotel. It does admit to being on a hill, but it should also state that it is a steep hill and if you don't hire a car or bike, the only thing you can do is walk or use a taxi everyday. The resort centre is also quite a walk away. The hotel should offer their own transport. I'm sure the increase in price to have this service at your beck and call would be well received.

Review 31:The service was good. Room service everyday was brilliant and the team of cleaners around the hotel kept everything clean. The gym and spa areas and indoor swimming pool were all well kept and towels and shower facilities were provided so you only had to show up. The very best thing about the hotel was the professional waiter service and the very excellent food. Everything on the menu was well presented, melted in the mouth and delicious.

Review 32:Not good value for money. We reserved a double room, and because we check in late there was only smokers room or a single room. We took the single. Too expensive for a business hotel.

Review 33:Clean, quiet... Thats it.

Review 34:We wanted queen bed .. but the room had two separate beds that are put right next to each other .

Review 35:The view is incredible from everywhere .. the room view is super as well . The hotel is too calm and nice .. the pool looks amazing .

Review 36:Crews are making their job with love.they are always smiling they are helpful.breakfast and dinner is wonderful.transportation is easy.you can reach everywhere with train and metro

Review 37:Very old interior . Feels like it has seen its best days . Indoor pool and gym felt very old and neglected. Blocked the menu of the Tv that you can not chnage it to English

Review 38:One of the best breakfasts i have had in Spain and beautiful view . Spacious hotel . Pool was very nice .

Review 39:There was a lot of noise in the hotel. Not only from the planes that pass the hotel about every 2 minutes, but the walls are thin as carton board. We couldn't sleep because of the sounds from above, outside, ... Surplus was there an unpleasant smell in the room. The inside pool really needs refurbishment.

Review 40:Staff not that friendly, bar near the swimming pool very expensive for what you get. Even the 'modern' part would need some remodeling. Hotel should avoid having people (not children) jumping in the swimming pool.

Review 41:Good value for money if you get a discount with Booking, maybe not that good if you pay full price. Views, swimming pool area (not the hammocks), buffet breakfast, free indoor parking. Late check out options: 20€ until 14:00 or 30€ until 18:00 (but staff should let you know those amounts do not include taxes).

Review 42:The personnel at the bar were very nice, but the receptionists were not as nice and not so helpful. There was no concierge to give advice to tourists. The hotel is OK, but not worth the four stars.

Review 43:The location is nice, although inconvenient if you don't have a car as it is on top of a hill.

Review 44:Going into town for the beach, town not so nice.

Review 45:Clean, beautiful pool area and view. Nice formal dining room. Wonderful food. Many options at breakfast.

Review 46:Stayed here before and I believe the breakfast quality, though still fine, has deteriorated. Otherwise very good hotel.

Review 47:Location on top of the hill with fantastic views, 30 min walk to the beach (easy), walking back up hill more difficult. Close to Barcelona.

Review 48:We were on honeymoon and were disappointed with the rooms in the main hotel, so we reluctantly upgraded to the renovated section of the hotel.

Review 49:We upgraded to a suite because the standard rooms weren't to our liking. The suite was located in a renovated wing apart from the main hotel. It had wonderful balcony and view down to the ocean. Swimming pool area is really nice too.

Review 50:Had to pay extra for a room with balcony despite Booking.com saying some rooms had balconies. Too far to walk to beach; shuttle bus runs all day although stops at 8.45 so not easy to go into town at night for dinner unless you want to get a taxi back.

Review 51:Very comfortable beds, nice clean room, bar and cleaning staff very polite. Nice pool and sunbathing area.

Review 52:Take your own hair dryer!

Review 53:The staff were friendly and despite very little English they wermn out their way to be so hospitable. Rooms were beautiful and great value for money. 15 minute walk from station with direct connection from plaja castelldefeles to pg gracia in the centre of Barcelona and direct with the metro.

Review 54:Terrible restaurant. Breakfast is nice, but I would strongly advise not to go to the restaurant for dinner or lunch. We went there 2 times and every time were waiting for the menu, bill or the main dishes quite a lot of time. There was NO service at all.

Review 55:Wi fi was very bad:( also the coffee in the bar was very disappointing considering you guys have a speciality coffee dealers right there in Castlelldefels!

Review 56:The best part was an indoor pool, sauna, the views

Review 57:The wifi doesn't work very well

Review 58:We were very impressed with the staff. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, making us feeling very comfortable and happy. The facilities are very good and we advise everyone to go there to experience what we experienced. Thank ever so much Don Jaime King!!! We will see u again.

Review 59:Better to come with a car: the hotel is ubicated quite high, so it is hard to climb there. They offer a shuttle bus to a beach, but up to 18 only. So if you consider romantic walks in the evening be aware of reaching at the end a high mountain, having 30C and significant humidity.

Review 60:Good hotel, god price-quality relation.

Review 61:The customer service experience was probably the poorest I have experienced in many years of travel to Spain. The worst service was at the terrace bar, the waitress there was downright rude and on one occasion practically threw our drinks at us after she had forgotten to bring them with our main order. On the day we left, we ordered coffees on the terrace, waited about 10 minutes for the order to be taken, then after a further 20 minutes waiting decided to leave. No apology was offered, the waitress expressed surprise that we were dissatisfied. We won't be returning to this hotel.

Review 62:The hotel is in a great location. We were in the older part of the hotel where the rooms are furnished in a traditional style which we liked. The pool area and gardens are lovely.

Review 63:1. Front Desk staff, smelly from cigarettes and very poor manners. 2. Very poor breakfast quality and selection. 3. Impossible to eat the bread rolls due to age of bread. 4. Very expensive food in pool and restaurant areas. 5. Guests without own transport are trapped and walk to beach is very far by foot. 6. Breakfast Meat and Cheese platters had imprints of plates being stacked on them from the day (Or maybe week) before. 7. The old part of the Hotel is "pretty" but in disparate need of repair. My room door was easily identified without looking at the door number. It had a massive chunk of plaster missing from behind the door frame. 8. Very poor insulation and every noise could be heard in the next room preventing a good night's sleep.

Review 64:Pretty location for views and free parking but nothing else. All in all a second rate experience. I stayed there for 8 long, long days and then transferred to the BAH hotel where I am very happy and getting good rest at night.

Review 65:The road approaching the hotel is a steep incline around a sharp bend. There isn't a pedestrian path so it's pretty dangerous. Also, the hotel hosted some sort of graduation event without notifying guests, so we got back from he beach one evening and the place was overrun with very loud, excited youngsters. It would have been nice to have prior warning of this.

Review 66:The pool is fantastic and the views are wonderful.

Review 67:The staff seemed genuinely uninterested in the guests, we felt like we were an inconvenience for them. In spite of a long line (8 guests), only one person was available to check us in, so it took 30 minutes of waiting. Not OK. Overall the place is rather worn. The pool area was crowded and just not nice - no-one used the showers before entering the pool, so the pool water was filthy. Breakfast was OK for Spain, but the selection was still very limited, and the eggs inedible.

Review 68:Our room was quiet at night, no music or loud guests in the hallways. Great with bathrooms that have windows to the outdoors, and they open up fully! Free parking is nice.

Review 69:price, rooms large and comfortable

Review 70:staff in restaurant extremely rude, ordered food, main courses came at different times and next time were ignored by staff

Review 71:Personal is rude. Don't pay attention to the guest's need. Train station and the beach is far away. What's described on the site doesn't correspond with the reality. Got disappointed. Doesn't worth money

Review 72:The Rude and unprofessional Front Desk Staff, Music until 2 A.M. ! This hotel is not suitable for people who look forward to sleep at night. Avoid if you have a flight the following day.

Review 73:The View, the Restaurant.

Review 74:Restaurant is a bit over priced for the food. Besides that te onl other thing we didn't like was leaving.

Review 75:Lovely hotel for the money. Friendly staff, great view, good rooms. Lovely pool and pool staff

Review 76:It's not exactly a bad experience, but staff in the reception might have asked at check-out whether I had enjoyed my stay. After all I spent 10 days. Young waiters in the restaurant could have been more attentive, but that's a minor matter. There was no one to carry sun beds, and they were rather heavy (at least for someone like me)

Review 77:The hotel has a beautiful location with a stunning view of the hills and ocean far below. Vegetation is lush and green with neat lawns, palms and umbrella pine trees.

Review 78:No wheelchair access to dining room. The older gentleman on reception was a grumpy old git when busy ! All other staff great. We decided to lounge by the pool on our last day but the whole terrace was taken up with tables laid out for a conference lunch.

Review 79:Tranquility. Panoramic views from room, restaurant, pool and sun terraces. Fast, easy access to Barcelona. Cleanliness in room and all public areas. Very good breakfast choices.

Review 80:I think the staff could be a bit more polite. The first greeting was: "May I have your credit card and passport please!". I'd rather see a greeting that is more familiar and makes you feel welcome, like "Hello, how are you? Are you visiting for business or pleasure? Let me check your booking please... staying with us for N nights, is that correct?"

Review 81:Rooms are comfortable. Bathroom is nice. Rooms are cleaned properly every time. WiFi was available throughout the hotel (beware though, not in all rooms you have a proper WiFi signal!). Great location, wonderful views of the sea. Excellent pools (both indoor and outdoor). Wonderful sauna. Close to the beach. For 75 euros per night at a 4-star hotel in June 2015, I believe this is a good price for what you get (compared to other nearby 4-star hotels, or hotels from Barcelona). Close to a mini-market near-by (by car). However, you must definitely get a car if you stay here - we were prepared and that was not a surprise for us.

Review 82:We were allocated a room as far from the lifts as possible, overlooking the old, unused, derelict swimming pool - only there for one night so could not be bothered to change it. The actual pool seems to be in the other half of the hotel. The restaurant looked very welcoming, but the set menu at €30 looked awful, so didn't eat there; however, the receptionist recommended a super restaurant, Amar, so all was not lost.

Review 83:The hotel is fine, perhaps a little tired in places, but only a ten to fifteen minute drive from Barcelona airport, which makes it an excellent location if you are flying out. Breakfast was included in the rate and was much better than I expected.

Review 84:None worth mention. There used to be complimentary slippers and the toiletries range was bigger but these are not ranked on my important list.

Review 85:Coming from northern Europe its nice to see the sunshine each day and to be able to relax outdoors in the very pleasant surroundings of the hotel. I like the way the gardens are so well maintained and the convenience of the bar for food and drinks.

Review 86:Noise from the parties. Only spanish TVchannels, no movies w/english subtitles. Restaurant guests moke in the balcony area, It is an inside balcony. Eating in smoke is disgusting for a non-smoker! The staff at the reception seemed like tired factory workers. No smiles.

Review 87:Great views. Only 10-15 min drive to the airport. Good restaurant. Absolutely fantastic pool. Easy parking. Big rooms. Big showers.

Review 88:It's a bit further away from the beach/restaurants than we had imagined. Driving out onto main road was a bit of a lottery with poor visiblity at the junction and some hot-footed drivers coming from the left !!

Review 89:Very pleasant hotel in quiet location.

Review 90:Beds a bit flimsy. Had to walk 2.5km to Castelldelfels town centre or take a taxi.

Review 91:Friendly staff, great ambience and facilities. Lovely breakfast in a typically Spanish style decor

Review 92:None at all

Review 93:The staff were All very pleasant,Maitre'd was very professional and nice and the food was outstanding! Our 14 year old is a plain eater and they accommodated him without any problem.

Review 94:I was disappointed you couldnt have food in the afternoon in the hotel you had to wait until 8 in the evening we fancied an early meal before going out and couldnt not even a snack! Also it would of been nice to have tea and coffee facilities in the room as this is common in most hotels.

Review 95:It was a very comfortable hotel with a beautiful view from the restaurant and very close to the beach. The staff were friendly and helpful enough and what food we had there was very nice. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere and had loads to do with a gym, pool and spa etc.

Review 96:Remote hotel. Walk to the beach/train station is not far, however the streets you walk through on the way are really not very nice. Cleanliness of the room was ok, but not superb.

Review 97:The facilities (gym and sauna) were good. The close-by beach was lovely, nice for a morning run. Catching a train to Barcelona is easy and good-value (runs every 30 minutes to Place de Gracia).

Review 98:Not a problem for us but note this is not a seaside hotel.

Review 99:Large room and bathroom. High quality and excellent facilities. Fantastic views from its elevated position. It does have elevators contrary to an earlier review which service the underground car park as well.

Review 100:WiFi could be better (used with iPad Air)

Review 101:Staff was very friendly, room was really nice (country style equipment), good restaurant - hope to be back soon.

Review 102:The price of drinks 20 euro for jug of Sangria, 17.20 euro for 2 vodka 7up and a water. ( you can get 1.lt vodka for 11euro in supermarket.)

Review 103:The food and service in the restaurant. Nice relaxing place, with rail link just a short walk away.

Review 104:Some furniture in room would need to be replaced or refreshed.

Review 105:Very good price, view from window with sea view. Breakfast on terase even in end of October. Overall fanatstic stay.

Review 106:The hotel staff though very helpful were very straight faced. They don't smile which was odd since we are used to service with smiling faces.

Review 107:The hotel location and the old building lounge. Also they have a bar next to the pool where we would spend our evenings.

Review 108:Bit noisy during nights as walls seem very thin. (Stayed next door to a family with a small child we cried alot during night)

Review 109:Stunning views, great breakfast selection, good room service and maids very quick and efficient. Very close to train station. . 5-10min walk (but did include steep hill to hotel) great beach just past train station. Loads of eating bits around and so easy to get into Barcelona. It is a bit dated but adds to its charm. We will definitely be back.

Review 110:Good service efficient and helpful. The restaurant was very good for dinner and breakfast and good value for money. There were a lot of business clients enjoying their stay, which confirms that it was, and is, very good!!!

Review 111:Small room size for cost. Lack of coffee/tea facilities in room. Lack of electrical outlets near the bed made use of technology difficult. Facility grounds were disappointing.

Review 112:There were good breakfast options for a cold buffet. Great breakfast opening hours. Great views from the restaurant.

Review 113:Bit of a pain to get to the beaches without a car. Other guests a bit 'chavvy'. Always meetings down at the pool, so not much peace and quiet

Review 114:Great pool with lovely views, lovely big room.

Review 115:The light switches can be confusing and there wasn't a kettle to make drinks in the room.

Review 116:Room was clean and comfortable, beds made every day. Facilities are good. The pool looked inviting although we didn't have time to use It. The hotel is fairly close to the train station so it is handy if you don't have a car and are prepared to walk down the hill approach to the hotel and climb back up. It is also close to the sea with good views. We got a 3 night reduced price so good value for money.

Review 117:We had quite a bit of luggage and no help was offered by any staff members to reach our room. Considering there is no lift and many staircases, this is a massive oversight. The light shades and globes didn't match in our room, as well as one wasn't working at all. Our bathtub had something stuck on the bottom, so obviously hadn't been cleaned properly. We ordered tapas one evening and they were just short of appalling. Nothing was fresh or delicious, with the Manchego cheese being the worst. Considering the region the hotel is in, good Manchego cheese is easy to come by. We booked a hotel room for two people and stocked inside the bathroom was everything for one... including one pair of slippers. That boggles my mind. Several other small things were wrong; individually they didn't mean much but as a whole added up to a very undesirable accommodation.

Review 118:The tower/pool area. The tower itself is beautifully kept. One of the bar staff was absolutely lovely...I wish I could remember his name.

Review 119:Reception desk staff very anf totally unhlepful for any need ! WIFI poor quality.

Review 120:Great and fantasticl hotel for relaxing; atmosphere in general and pool area and staff.

Review 121:be aware it is walk up / down hill and then along the local road to the footbridge over the motorway and railway to get to Platje de Casteldefels. (Around 7 euro taxi ride from the sister hotel on the beach). Noise is not an issue at the hotel. however.

Review 122:Hotel has friendly staff and good facilities. Located at top of hill with view over Platje de Casteldefels. Around 30 minute walk to restaurant / bar are of Platje de Casteldefels. 30 minute train ride into Barcelona.

Review 123:Sorry, but Spanish lazy style: no food and no service in the middle of the day, we have siesta... very steep hill, walk to a beach is 15 min downhill and good 20 min back. No infrastructure around hotel, faceless small city Castelldefills in 20-30 min walk.

Review 124:Magnificent view, very clean rooms and hall, attentive stuff, effective and gentle air conditioning. Railway station is very close to hotel, easy to travel to Barselona.

Review 125:The first night we had dinner at the hotel and were very aware of the traffic on the main road

Review 126:Great layout & good food both at breakfast and dinner

Review 127:I was offered a room with a balcony but I had to pay a supplement for it, when I said no they gave us a poky tiny one next to all the construction work. When I made a fuss they "found" a room right next to reception. Beautiful room but we didn't sleep a wink with lots of noise from people checking in and out all night. Nobody asked me at checkout how was my stay, I think they knew already.

Review 128:Facilities, sauna, pool.

Review 129:We stayed at this hotel just to be close to the Airport to be able to sleep. We wake up 5. The restaurant by the pool har loud quests till late on night. Our window was facong the pool. If you want to sleep ask for a mpre quiet room if they have any.tje hotel is quite rundown and not value for the money.

Review 130:The service at the pool bar was very dis-organised and slow

Review 131:The rooms were all very clean and comfortable. There was a minibus service from the hotel down to the beach during August which was great service for a large family as the taxis were expensive.

Review 132:The most unfriendly front desk staff we've ever met. They act as if they were doing you a huge favour hosting you in their hotel. A tiny and very dark room with an even smaller bathroom where it was impossible to have a shower without flooding the whole bathroom. Not sure when was the last time the aircon was cleaned but you can see a two inch thick layer of fungus growing on it. Incredibly noisy inside the rooms as the hallways are not carpeted. Anywhere else this would be a two star hotel.

Review 133:Getting out of there a day earlier.

Review 134:Personnel (they are behaving like robots, they are not bad but not sympatic too)

Review 135:Clean, well designed (but a bit old), facilities, breakfast, comfortable beds.

Review 136:The furniture in the room was quite smelly. One of the beds smelled so bad that we couldn't sleep on that on. The service on check out was unfriedly, guy added an extra breakfast to the bill which we didn't have and didn't even apologize for that.

Review 137:The view from the hotel was nice. Place to play squash is great idea.

Review 138:It is a bit far from the beach. We did not have time to check how the shuttle buses provided by the hotel worked.

Review 139:The facilities are excellent: swimming pools (indoors and outdoor), gym, rooms, common spaces, decor, etc. Furthermore, I got an excellent price through booking.

Review 140:It is a little bit difficult to acces by foot from the train station.

Review 141:The staff was great, at the lobby, the restaurant, they were very kind and eager to answer your questions and/or requirements.

Review 142:For the beach shuttle service is insufficient, we left the room faucet should be revised, breakfast may be cheaper, the bar can get food options should be increased, TV channels in Spanish or Catalan, English channels, watch should be able to. Airport transfer should offer an option for a fee on.

Review 143:In the countryside, spacious and comfortable, clean, close to the station, is considered close to the beach, the price more affordable compared to other hotels, the scenery is beautiful, the sea is high and the wind is able to sleep comfortably. The hotel staff were helpful.
