Reviews for Cape Town Lodge Hotel

Review 1:There was a mix up with our reservation which was very annoying. The Duty Manager did, however, work very quickly to resolve the issue. Instead of a Dulux Suite, we were given a 9th floor self-catering Loft Apartment with cooking facilities. This was great except that aside from crockery and cutlery for two persons, no cooking utensils such as pots or pans are provided. Since we had not intended to cook, we did not inquire as to whether or not the hotel would provide these upon request. Also note that there is no table to to eat at, so it is either at the desk or on the bed or the floor. All-in-all, good idea but facilities are inadequate for self-catering.

Review 2:Excellent location and stunning views of Table Mountain from the balcony. Breakfast buffet is value for money. Staff are friendly and helpful. The Waterfront shopping malls are a 15 minute walk away, just be careful at the traffic lights as they do not give pedestrians sufficient time to cross the very busy intersections - news paper vendors are very helpful though in stopping the traffic and deserve the few Rands you give them for their efforts! :o)

Review 3:We were upgraded compliments of the manager and ended up in a magnificent suite with a very comfortable bed and really big bathroom. What a special treat!

Review 4:We didn't have a mountain view which we had requested - in fact there was no view except buildings. We had to prepay our room which we had never done before on 3 occasions.

Review 5:Relaxed atmosphere. Excellent accommodation and breakfast. Helpful staff. Welcome gifts on arrival.

Review 6:The Restaurant: The Famous Butchers grill. The waitress reeked of cigarette smoke and got our order completely wrong. There was no flexibility on the menu. You have to have a starch, if you want veg pay for it. Unusual that one has to pay for parking.

Review 7:The decor in the hotel gave it a good African feel. Te staff were friendly an the hotel was well run.

Review 8:I allowed one of the staff members to park my vehicle (which is a service the hotel offers) and the guy burnt out my clutch. When I addressed it with the hotel manager he said it wasn't his problem and told me to talk to the employee directly??? It's still unresolved... No free wifi is a big let down...

Review 9:Location is great - close to everything.

Review 10:The prices of the goodies in the room was to expensive and in the fridge it's double the amount we normally pay for it.

Review 11:I like the room. It was comfortable and nice

Review 12:I booked two superior double room but did not get them on same floor, upon request was given one on the same floor the next day but it was not a superior room though i already paid for two very early upon booking itself.

Review 13:I had complimentary wifi when i expected to have to pay for it

Review 14:No comment

Review 15:The friendliness of all staff was amazing. Excellent service in every department. The lounge/bar has a totally relaxed atmosphere. The food was really good.

Review 16:The view of table mountain from the kids room and the colourful buildings from our room. Very Beautiful place. Extremely Friendly staff. Enjoyed our stay and will definitely book the same hotel next time.

Review 17:breakfast too expensive .

Review 18:Friendly staff comfortable beds and mattresses what a beautiful views of Table Mountain, signal hill and the Lions head thanks.

Review 19:We didn't like the restaurant - the food and the people. We didn't like the room's interior - far away from being 4 star room. The towels and the bed linens were old and grey.

Review 20:We liked the location, the lodge outdoor, the staff at the reception very nice and helpful. We loved the bush braai safari organized by the Sefapane people.

Review 21:Terrible management. AC in original room made very loud gurgling noise impossible to sleep. When we told staff their initial response was "have you tried turning it off" was sounded very frustrated with us. Finally offered to switch rooms. We had lost the wifi paper which is needed to login every time and asked for a new one. Originally tried charging us for another but finally agreed to give us another. This information was not relayed at checkout and wanted to charge us again. Manager was EXTREMELY rude and even allowed "well it will come out of the employers pocket, he knows not to give free WiFi". Have never seen this type of service anywhere. There is a reason this place is cheap

Review 22:Clean place

Review 23:Wifi was a little unpredictable and could have been more robust - but that turned out to be generally true of the whole city :(

Review 24:Excellent location convenient to all there is to do in the city. Safe and secure with a knowledgeable and friendly staff. A driver was available for hire for short and longer trips and that was a great convenience. We stayed 4 nights just before high season and were given a complimentary upgrade from our modest room choice to a brand new deluxe junior suite with sweeping views and deluxe amenities. Our stay here made this visit to Cape Town a memorable and special one - thank you!!!!

Review 25:To pay for WiFi (not international standard). And the WiFi is inferior. Very slow elevators - and too little capacity. You wait - wait - wait

Review 26:Safe parking

Review 27:Very trendy little hotel on the road that goes up to Table Mountain. Good room service, great reception staff, cute rooftop pool. The location is perfect

Review 28:Charging for parking seems extreme

Review 29:The location was perfect for easy access to all the attractions the Cape Town had to offer. The staff were always happy to help and informed about the hotel .

Review 30:Seats available at the reception/hall are few...

Review 31:Coutesy and simphaty of staff. The lady in charge of Breakfast was just tremendously amazing. Thank you. Room was very good, confortable and spacious.

Review 32:We stayed this hotel for 7 days and got the same breakfast everyday... Inner rooms are not so good... Speed of Lift is terrible, allocate at least 10 minutes if you wish to use lift...

Review 33:Location is perfect, may reach most of the city area, other tourist places, malls easily and conveniently... taxi is available nearby... Outer and Table Mountain View rooms are excellent !!!

Review 34:Nothing, it was a memorable experience all round

Review 35:The services on arrival was great felt at home the minute you work in and also prompt service when you need assistance from reception and cleaning staff. The breakfast setting was of everything.

Review 36:Everything about it this time. From checkin where they asked if we had stayed before! To our room not being made up by 15h00 in the afternoon to breakfast not being ready at the advertised time of 06:30. We would not stay here again.

Review 37:We have stayed here at least 8 times previously and have always highly rated this hotel

Review 38:Was hoping for an outside view from our window. But looked at a sombre court yard instead. The euro socket outlet to charge cell phones hidden behind a lamp.

Review 39:Staff very heĺpfull and friendly. Food excellent. Room clean.

Review 40:The only slight complaint would be the lifts which are slow and keep going up after heading down.

Review 41:Everything about the hotel was convenient - location, parking provided with easy access. The room and bathroom was very clean and well maintained.

Review 42:The service from beginning to leaving was excellent! The barman at the hotel bar is an asset to the hotel, made us feel so welcome! The room itself was clean and the views from all windows was fantastic! Definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 43:Communication at reservation stage was poor, requests were not noted and no feedback given. Requested for a King bed but on check in it was a twin set up. It wahs immediately rectified though. Check in was the WORST ever, far from a warm reception.

Review 44:The porter, Edward was a ray of sunshine after a terrible first impression at check in. Cindy, the GM is hands on, shows genuine care for the guests and all concerns. *Enjoyed breakfast. *Loved the pillows ?.

Review 45:The attitude of some reception staff

Review 46:Very well located. Access to main highways, good restaurants, the beaches and nightlife all within close proximity and public transport. The hotel is safe and very clean

Review 47:Reception smelled bad, cigarette. night staff too casual (talking).

Review 48:The bed was clean and comfortable. fridge well stocked, no need for vending machine.

Review 49:we forgot our valuables in the safe and went back to collect it, when entering the room we found the cleaning staff having tea and chatting away if they were the clients.

Review 50:The airconditioning within the entire hotel was abit overbearing as it was too hot.

Review 51:The staff was extremely helpful and pleasant at all times. The facility was pleasantly clean.

Review 52:(a) No free wifi - there's a R100 minimum charge which, in this day and age, ia archaic (b) on checking in, staff laboriously processed my credit card to reserve R200 which, on checking out, they were unable to reverse.

Review 53:Location, value for money. The staff did their best despite irritating management policies.

Review 54:I didn't have a good check-in experience as the man who checked us in was rude and unpleasant for no reason. Also the hallways to the rooms are dark and dated. In addition I told the man on check in that as I was using an international card it would be better for me to either pay in cash on departure or by card rather than put a hold on my account and he made a huge fuss about it and then on checkout they had not cleared the hold and therefore my bank declined the "double" charge and so it made for a long, unpleasant and unnecessary checkout after a similar check-in.

Review 55:Location was good, and bed was comfy, our room had a good view and was clean. Most of the other staff were pleasant and helpful.

Review 56:Reception staff is not up to standard From Greeting, Attitude and body language The parking was a big pain when we arrived, they wanted us to leave our car keys with them; which is a BIG NO NO - At first I thought they are joking, guess not! Only then they moved the rental cars so that we can park Will not stay in the hotel again

Review 57:Anthea at the Restaurant was GREAT! Super friendly, very helpful - We ordered room service, she made we feel welcome at the hotel

Review 58:Pool was under maintainence and we're not told apon booking . Windows were leaking when it rained . Shower pressure was bad

Review 59:Overall experience was good

Review 60:Room not ready on arrival at 2.30pm. Noisy airconditioner. Window did not seal properly - kept awake by strong wind whistling in. Only one lift working until the morning I left. Not enough cups and saucers at conference. Slow service, cold plates and inadequate selection of food at breakfast. Expect better from a 4 start hotel. Windows dirty.

Review 61:Pleasant staff.

Review 62:very noisy next door neighbours. i moved twice and in both cases neighbours made a noise late at night and very early in the morning. Mosque wakes people at 5pm. Unfortunately i wouldn't stay there again. too noisy. pity.

Review 63:good service and rooms

Review 64:Initially the hotel had a problem to help us with an early check-in, but then they sorted it out.

Review 65:The apartment that we stayed in was 3 levels and very nice.

Review 66:You have to pay for wifi, shuttle service of the hotel is a rip of, almost dubble the price of normal taxi... We shared a taxi both guest had to pay full price... Crying baby in room next to us and cardboard walls you can hear everything. Really outdated hotel

Review 67:Clean room in a good location, great restaurant

Review 68:I have stayed at this hotel many times and i was asked if this was my 1st time. then i was given a smoking room when i asked for none smoking. When i went down to sort out room the reception manager gave me attitude. The parking attendant was rude as the parking was full told me to drive around and cool off.this is unacceptable to be treated in this way.

Review 69:cleaning of rooms, paying extra for parking and wifi.bottle of water in fridge open ,and filtered water in jug not refilled, poor standard of toiletries, and noise from air conditioning unit in room in the courtyard.

Review 70:the position to all amenities, easy parking.

Review 71:Firstly the reception was slow in fixing a request done at 2pm to only be fixed at 5pm. Lack of information of the mini bar cost. No tooth paste.

Review 72:The bed only.

Review 73:parking a problem. Space limited so driver has to move over to passenger side or vice versa if you want to exit vehicle.

Review 74:Staff extremely helpful and friendly.

Review 75:The slip way to the parking lot which gets used as the enters vector the hotel after hours is a bit dangerous especially when wearing hills

Review 76:The facilities. The staff were very welcoming and the food was absolutely delicious.

Review 77:Wi-fi arrangements with coupons was user friendly and signal strength was weak in the room. TV channels were rather limited.

Review 78:Excellent large room with comfortable furniture. Central location which suited what we needed in Cape Town. In house parking. Excellent value for money.

Review 79:Your elevators are the slowest I've ever gone in!!!

Review 80:I love where this place is located, the staff were friendly and I received immense value for money.

Review 81:Super friendly staff: Simone and Darryl at the Front Desk, and Elliot, our porter were all wonderful. Room was clean and spacious, bed was comfortable & that was all we really needed.

Review 82:Poor reception & morning cleaning staff walking in not once, but twice despite being told not to and to come back later please

Review 83:Good location & offsite parking

Review 84:We reported that the fridge in our room didnt close properly and by the time we left 5 days later it was still exactly the same. Also asked for 2 fases for our flowers, one for each of our rooms. We eventually got them by day 3. Otherwise we were very happy and had a wonderful weekend. Thank you.

Review 85:Loved the view of table mountain. The luxury of the room and space so that we could all spend good family time together in evenings. Location was perfect. Staff was very friendly and helpfull.

Review 86:The paid for wifi was a bit difficult to connect to and you had to remember to log off again.

Review 87:All of the staff, particularly in reception were very cheerful and helpful.

Review 88:The lovely spacious loft we stayed in. We really got good value for money. The staff was really nice and friendly especially our porter who took our luggage to our room. And the food at the restaurant was absolutely delicious and well prepared.

Review 89:The reception staff were not attentive and I had to call a manager to bring this to his attention. I was standing there while she spoke to a staff member by the garage door. She could not have missed me when he closed the door because I was right there between him and the reception desk, yet she left me standing there without so much as an "hello". Much less a "Is there anything we can do for you." Now that I have stayed at about 5 accommodations in Cape Town - almost all of which were excellent, I doubt that I will stay here again.

Review 90:I have stayed at the Cape Town Lodge Hotel before and returned because it is such a beautiful hotel, such attention to detail in the decor. If only some of the staff gave correct attention too. Only after complaining about my smallish room facing an enclosed dark quad which made me claustrophobic was I moved to a mountain view room, much like the one I stayed in before (about a year ago). The breakfast is a grand affair complete with live music from a pianist. The room service is fair but after ordering in one night I decided to eat in the restaurant after that. A solo artist entertained us and when he found out I loved Roderiques (Sugarman) he played all his tunes for us. Really a wonderful soulful evening in the restaurant causing me to linger.

Review 91:The prices of the mini bar and luxuries in the room.

Review 92:Amazing staff! The bedding and room was really clean :) And it was so easy to book in. Good value for money THANK YOU

Review 93:The parking is a problem. To pay R60 for parking and then your car gets parked in. other cars parked behind you. when you want to leave and use your car to go somewhere it becomes a uncomfortable situation.

Review 94:Good location and views. The price was will let me come back.

Review 95:the lighting was not well thought out

Review 96:helpful and pleasant staff; comfortable room; location was central and walkable to streets and areas of interest.

Review 97:Lift is noisy even in rooms that are located away from the lift area. Breakfast left a lot to be desired

Review 98:Staff are friendly, efficient and go out of their way to assist you

Review 99:Has to pay for WiFi. R100 for 500 MB- which make it worthless Breakfast is not included in room charges

Review 100:Location was good, Nice small rooms, Clean and Comfortable Lot of restaurants in walking distance

Review 101:It would've been really nice if the parking could be free, as well as the Wi-Fi.

Review 102:The ultra-cleanliness of absolutely every inch of the place! The comfort and luxury, and the attentiveness of the staff.

Review 103:Room 906 smelt of cigarrette smoke. The room wasnt made up until after 2pm on 20 Sept and only because i complained. The plumbing is noisy. Breakfast is poor. The pork products are disgusting. bacon mostly made of fat needs to be well cooked until crispy, not half cooked dripping in water. The sausage is of a texture i have never experienced. There was not enough fruit.

Review 104:The location was OK

Review 105:Parking on higher level - scary pathway! Getting down without staircase Softer towels please

Review 106:Staff excellent - professional & friendly! Facilities good! Value for money!

Review 107:I requested a double bed but instead we had two twin beds pushed together. This was not very comfortable. I am not sure if two twin beds means a double bed in this instance.

Review 108:I liked the fact that my request for an outside view was accomodated.

Review 109:Parking is not convenient and access to parking on first floor is inconvenient Access from parking on first floor directly to hotel would assist in solving access inconvenience

Review 110:Location, tariff

Review 111:Nothing was bad. Lifts were a bit on the slow side, but not a problem.

Review 112:The room that we booked was upgraded which was a pleasant surprise. The room was very nice and with lots of space. Staff were friendly and helpful. My partner also highly rated our stay.

Review 113:Parking was not up to standard. Why do non paying patrons of the restaurant in the hotel get preference over hotel guests that pay for overnight parking.

Review 114:I think they allow the guest to smoke in the rooms and we could smell it even though we didnt smoke. we are not smokers and it was a very uncomfortable smell to have in the room.

Review 115:The Hotel is central to town and easily acceable. Restuarants where close by if we wanted to eat out.

Review 116:I specified on my booking.com form that i would be at the hotel at 12. I had to wait for check-in time at 2pm. I was then told my room was not ready. I had to wait until 2:45pm. Yes, I had to wait for almost 3 hours. They could have contacted me before hand but did not. They then took a R200.00 refundable "Security Deposit". What they do not tell you is that you are liable for parking which is R60 and taken off the refundable "Security Deposit"

Review 117:Nice and central to everything in Cape Town.

Review 118:Felt that having to pay for parking was a bit cheeky. Service and ambience in restaurant left a lot to be desired.

Review 119:Friendly staff, courteous and professional. Room luxurious and clean. Super-centrally located.

Review 120:The service we received from reception, it wasn't value for money. We have had much better for less. The room smelt like smoke despite asking for a non-smoking room. They played pirated movies on the TV channels - we could see the people walking in front of the camera eg Kevin Hart - Wedding Ringer

Review 121:The vehicle valet staff were excellent.

Review 122:I think the quality of the breakfast can be improved but they at least have variety. The upper level parking and walking up and down the steep was not so grand for me

Review 123:Hubby and I were there for our anniversary celebration and absolutely loved our stay there

Review 124:Having to pay for Wi-Fi. Where do you pay for Wi-Fi nowadays.

Review 125:The staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful. Garage staff were excellent and nothing was too difficult for them.

Review 126:Safe parking and a fantastic restaurant in the Hotel. Very central to the waterfront. Have used this hotel a few times and had the great surprise of a upgrade on our last visit. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

Review 127:Noise from next rooms the walls were very thin. They've got the slowest lifts iv'e ever experienced also.

Review 128:Staff were a pleasure, couldnt do enough for you. They are a wonderful people in Capetown very pleasant and cheerful. Great location for discovering Capetown but you will need taxis which are very cheap and reliable.

Review 129:First thing you smell when u walk in the reception area is the smoke from the smoking bar! Bathroom not cleaned well, parking is a joke and very expensive. I got charged for a phonecall from my room to my room at 1:30 am which is absurd as i wasnt even awake at that time.

Review 130:Location, fair size room

Review 131:We were not told that the breakfast vouchers were not refundable. We didnt use our vouchers and still had to pay in for the vouchers that were not used. Staff should have informed us upfront as to how the breakfast vouchers work.

Review 132:We were upgraded at no extra charge. Room was spacious and really nice. Great values for money.

Review 133:Paying for internet and the caution for the room is just very unfriendly, almost insulting. Sad, because the rest was fine.

Review 134:Room Was large and comfortable.

Review 135:Was a little upset about paying R120 each for breakfast which was very ordinary. Wifi was not free, which I feel it should be for all guests as should be the guest parking - R60 per day is a little expensive.

Review 136:Lovely sized rooms. Clean and comfortable and quiet. Fabulous restaurant downstairs and the staff extremely friendly and approachable. Good value for money.

Review 137:I had problems with the heater, never worked, I complained and complained, but nothing was done. The housekeeping was very very poor. The bathroom service was very bad, hardly any soap,or shampoo etc

Review 138:I only liked the hotel structure,

Review 139:The reception staff at check-in need some good training on how to treat guests. Did not explain things well and the genuine queries we had were not handled efficiently and with usual friendly face and demeanour, it was like take it or leave it kind of an attitude, unusual to hotel business from my vast experience with hotels nationally and internationally.

Review 140:Easy to find the hotel and al the facilities in the hotel were very good except the reception staff. The stay and all were good value for money
