Reviews for Duran Hotel & Restaurant

Review 1:Very disappointing meal in restaurant. It was Christmas Eve and very busy so prepared for delays but very slow service not acceptable. Left without dessert or coffee after over three hour wait for two courses. Very short staffed. One person's food good, the other's mediocre and therefore over-priced. Have previously had lunch there when it was good and value for money

Review 2:In the centre oi Figueres, but quiet. Very good room and impressive Dining Room

Review 3:The carpark. Too tight for 7-seater van and dimly lit. Consider better lighting. Suggest also that front desk staff check on the type of vehicle guest is driving to ensure that the carpark is suitable. Fire extinguisher should not be mounted on the wall of the carpark lot. Our van was high and when reversing to park hit the fire extinguisher that is protruding from the wall. This smashed our van's back windscreen. A regular car would not be affected because it is lower. But some MPV and SUV will be affected.

Review 4:Our dinner at Duran restaurant - euros 20 for a 3-course dinner is really a steal - great taste and good portion. Rooms are stylish and spacious.

Review 5:The central position of the hotel is great. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Beds are comfortable and bathrooms are a good size. Breakfast is very good although no hot items.

Review 6:My room smelt of cigarettes.

Review 7:Vey interesting and attractive decor in reception and restaurant with lots of Dali ephemera. Good food in restaurant. Excellent 20 euro set menu with lots of choice - possibly just for hotel guests? Helpful reception staff. Good location and parking. Good wifi.

Review 8:Staff doesn't know English very well. Parking is 10 minutes walking from the spot.

Review 9:The hotel is very well situated in the heart of the city. Very cheap for this kind of quality. Restaurant is very good and not expensive. Michelin recommendation. Not a small, comfortable room. Silent.

Review 10:We didn't like the bed!!! It was so hard!!!!! A softer mattress would have been good, It was very difficult to sleep on!!! We also ordered room service and the waitress was very "grumpy and rude", and seemed like she didn't want to be there, was very unco-operative!!

Review 11:Was close to the airport, nice decor

Review 12:Nothing to dislike at all.

Review 13:Very good location. Efficient helpful and professional staff. Nice and plentiful breakfast. Very nice comfortable room.

Review 14:Restaurant is suposed to be top class, but actually it is just correct. Price is high compared what it is delivered. Waiters are not too enthusiastics.

Review 15:Location: it is very centric. But this can be a con, because it is a difficult to access area, specially in summer.

Review 16:Stayed only one night and I have no complains

Review 17:The restaurant of the hotel is excelent (not cheap but good value for the money) The hotel is very well located and the was helpfull.

Review 18:The meal in the restaurant was very poor quality and over priced. It uses the fact that Dali used to eat there but there are much better restaurants nearby.

Review 19:The location is excellent and within walking distance of Salvador Dali musuem

Review 20:Our

Review 21:Pleasant room, very clean and comfortable. Dali theme, pictures and memorabilia everywhere which was interesting. Staff were friendly and helpful. I also liked the carafe of dessert red wine which came with the meal.

Review 22:The hotel is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. It's position in the centre of Figueres is ideal. Breakfast is also very good. But the price is the best thing of all.

Review 23:One of our meals was not quite up to standard & staff went to considerable lengths to compensate - free courses etc. First class response. Very convenient for Dali exhibition

Review 24:Big spacious room. A luxurious bathroom, with an exceptional shower space. The thrill of experiencing the luxury that even the great Dali & Gala also enjoyed. Great value, good location. More than satisfied!

Review 25:The accommodation was booked as two bedrooms to be occupied by four guests - two in each bedroom. The guests were named and nominated for each bedroom when they were booked i.e. Peter Shaw & Phil Thompson in one bedroom and Ken Evans and Ray Thomas in the other bedroom. The bill was paid accordingly before leaving the UK. We were advised by the hotel on vacating however that we had only booked for two people to stay - one in each bedroom. The confirmatory booking advice was shown to the concierge which clearly delineated two named people in each bedroom. Nevertheless this was refuted by the hotel staff and we were made to pay an additional 90 Euro for each bedroom. We are not happy with this and will not stay in this hotel again.

Review 26:Courteous staff and great location.

Review 27:Our room was stylish, comfortable and quiet. We liked the connection with Dali who knew the owners and used to eat in the restaurant; there were several photos in evidence in the reception area.

Review 28:A rather cool reception on arrival but more than made up for by the charm of the staff the following morning.

Review 29:A very pleasant, unpretentious hotel – essentially rooms over a very good restaurant and excellent value for money. Conveniently located if you are visiting the Dali museum, it has a clean contemporary design upstairs with decent sized rooms that are comfortable, quiet, and provide what you need. It is well worth eating in the restaurant where the design is softly coloured antique with coats of arms and chandeliers and excellent food and wine. Apparently Dali and Gala visited regularly, so there is appropriate memorabilia scattered about the reception area. The pleasant breakfast is in a separate room.

Review 30:When we first entered, the room smelled very bad. We opened up all the windows and left the bathroom door open and it was much better when we returned from our meal.

Review 31:The staff are very welcoming and warm - they seem proud of their association with this establishment. The restaurant is fabulous.

Review 32:Parking in the very narrow spaces of the hotel's garage (and then trying to squeeze out of my vehicle with my American-sized body) was an adventure! I marked it down a notch on "staff," not because of the friendliness and professionalism of the staff -- which was top notch -- but because the small staff size means a long wait during busy hours.

Review 33:Beautiful, friendly small hotel in a wonderful small city. My room was comfortable and quiet, and larger than I would've expected for a European hotel of this price. Nice breakfast selection, too.

Review 34:Only comment is slightly hair raising parking underground which requires mm precision to fit in. But we did!

Review 35:Excellent 3 star hotel, lives up to its reputation. Nice large room, modernised with good bathroom. Well equiped. Restaurant at €20 for three course meal lunch and dinner, interesting, different and of very good quality, recommended by local tourist board. Parking is €15 per day underground. Perfect position for exploring the town. Very close to Dali Museum. Can highly recommend.

Review 36:We stayed at the Duran Hotel partly because of it's proximity to the Dali Museum. The room was comfortable, clean, and quiet. We had planned to eat dinner somewhere close to the hotel but decided instead to eat in the hotel dining room. We were glad we did. The meal and service were excellent. Be aware that some staff have limited English though I didn't find that an impediment to communication. Should we ever visit Figueres in the future, we will stay in the Duran Hotel.

Review 37:The WiFi worked well even in the bedroom (unlike last year) but had to be renewed every 24 hours with a new code (hardly a major inconvenience, admittedly!).

Review 38:Clean modern well-furnished bedroom with easy-to-operate shower. Helpful staff, effective WiFi. Great central position, near restaurants, church, Dali museum (a must to visit!) and taxi rank.

Review 39:Unfortunately twice we dealt with a particular receptionist who is certainly not helpful. We did deal with other staff members on reception and they were really pleasant and nice.

Review 40:Super hotel. We had a lovely dinner. Great location.

Review 41:We picked this hotel as it was one of the few that seemed to have 12pm check in time (stated on booking.com page). We had a friend’s wedding to go to on a nearby town at 4 pm and needed time to wash & get ready for our transfer to the venue at 3.30pm. We arrived around 10:30 to park the car and to double check when the room would be available. The first thing we were told was that there was no way we would be able to check in at 12 as their check in time was 3pm, when we brought up the fact the booking confirmation had 12pm we were simply told that it wasn’t the case, that the info was wrong and needed reviewing?!?! Our luck was that one of our friends lives in Barcelona and spoke fluent Spanish, as when I tried explaining the above in English I was just waved at and told in Spanish they didn’t speak English (I think they just couldn’t be bothered or didn’t care to listen). When we explained the reason why we need the room as early as possible the two ladies at the reception said they would try making it available from 1.30pm, which they did in the end. A hotel should make people feel welcome, if you want guest to come back and recommend it you at least try to accommodate people’s needs, in the best possible manner, real shame as it’s a lovely place in a lovely town.

Review 42:Location was excellent and bed extremely comfortable.

Review 43:I think our waiter was having an off day in the restaurant that evening. It really took the edge off what should have been a lovely meal.

Review 44:Location excellent, right in the centre of town with its own parking nearby. Spacious rooms, really good quality/price ratio. Quirky restaurant with well presented meals.

Review 45:The hotel was in a very good position.Hotel car park just up the road and not a problem. We had an excellent value for money evening meal in the hotel.

Review 46:Not very eco friendly Towels changed even though hung up - 3 towels used once replaced with 2 clean ones Even though only 23• air conditioning left running by cleaners Having to ask for a new wifi key every 24 hours Noisy air conditioning in adjacent room (probably empty) left on all night

Review 47:Location, building, room, breakfast selection

Review 48:Needs better signs to find it. Shower door leaked

Review 49:Very close to Dali Museum which was our primary reason for being there. Breakfast was best we had in spain. Dinner was very high quality and fairly priced.

Review 50:So much noise from the bathroom(s) above me - not sure if above was a family, but from around 8pm to midnight loud showers, toilet use, flushing..... 4 out of 5 nights too! Reception staff seemed fed up with life. Hard to get them to smile. Put me off exploring the hotel and eating at the restaurant or drinking in the bar.

Review 51:Great central location. Clean rooms. Lovely bathroom.

Review 52:The receptionist was not very friendly/helpful. The cleaning lady was very friendly and service minded. Maybe they should change job ?

Review 53:very good situated. very clean

Review 54:Parking outside on arrival is a hassle and the one-way system is no great help. The hotel's car-parking is expensive all things considered especially when there are better-priced alternatives nearby. Reception staff seem more occupied with their paper-work than relating to the customer. Having said that, check-in and check-out very smooth.

Review 55:The breakfast was well-presented and of a good quality with helpful but unobtrusive staff. sound-proofing is excellent. Excellent situation next to Ramblas and the Dali Museum etc.

Review 56:Seemed like wi-fi had issues working in the room, in lobby all worked fine.

Review 57:The had so much of salvidor dalhi work all over only with I had more time to enjoy it all. Beds were also very comfortable. This is a classic hotel.

Review 58:They have a parking facility which is relatively near the hotel, but this is unavoidable and guests can park momanteously at the door to unload and load baggage if necessary

Review 59:They have wifi in the rooms. The bathroom was spotless and well-equipped. Reception is efficient and helpful. It is quiet and elegant in its class. There is smoking area next to the breakfast area. A good idea.

Review 60:Only payable parking. Easy to find free parking in a near street

Review 61:Good wi fi covered, though restricted for one person only. Good breakfast. Good location

Review 62:They shouldn't have 'modernized' the restaurant! the old chairs and window drapes were much nicer...

Review 63:The restaurant serves classic cuisine. Was very good and we loved the waiters that were old world charme... Great collection of Dali original works all over the hotel!

Review 64:No real wi-fi in the rooms. However the lobby wi-fi did reach our room on the 3rd floor.

Review 65:Breakfast was good! Nespresso machine, lots of different cheeses and cold cuts. Some spanish potato omelette and so on.

Review 66:We chose this based on its proximity to the Dalí museum...it was a happy accident that the hotel's restaurant was a favorite of the artists and steeped in history.

Review 67:The hotel was located close to the Dali Museum. The staff were helpful and attentive. The maître d' at the restaurant was outstanding - making us feel very special.

Review 68:Good location. Newly refurbised, nice rooms with big bathroom and spacious shower. Dali's works on walls.

Review 69:Worn out lobby. Barely managable in English. Air-condition doesn't work without keycard, but any card will do.

Review 70:There was a was an unpleasant smell with the air conditioning on, which was needed because it was warm.

Review 71:Location was great and the room was clean and quiet.

Review 72:The meals at the Restaurant were delicious. The public spaces/ interior were filled with Dali art that were signed & personilized fo the owner's family! Location

Review 73:Wifi is only available on the ground floor Minor point unless you are a coffee snob: they use Nespresso

Review 74:Great location near the Dali Museum Parking close by Good size room Good restaurant

Review 75:The air conditioner could have been cooler. It must have been centrally controlled because setting it lower did not make the room any cooler.

Review 76:The Hotel Duran is a beautiful hotel in the center of Figueres with lots of history about Dali. The rooms are large, clean, and nicely decorated. The staff is helpful.

Review 79:The wifi is a little weak, but it's adequate.

Review 80:Lovely hotel. Nicely renovated to a good standard. Spacious room. Really quiet. Sufficiently effective aircon for 35+ degree heat. Wonderful location. We didn't eat there at all so cannot comment on the food.

Review 81:I loved the quaint old fashioned look of the Hotel. I loved the waiters in the dining room, old fashioned good service with a hint of humour. I loved the breakfast.

Review 82:The hotel is in a great location, just around the corner from the Dali museum. The restaurant is definitely something you should experience, the food was amazing and the service impeccable. The restaurant staff were great, it was like stepping back in time, a little bit of history - I imagine it was just like that when Dali used to eat there! The room was spotless and comfy.

Review 83:The hotel is in the centre of the city, close to Dali Museum. It was very clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was delicious.

Review 84:The separation between rooms 110 and 112 is paper thin. When checking in, make sure your room does not have this type of separation.

Review 85:Ideally located just metres away from main square with many restaurants. The hotel has its own excellent restaurant. Very clean, comfortable and modern rooms with good bathroom. Flatscreen TV with tens of national and international channels plus free wifi. Breakfast is outstanding, perhaps only lacking in hot food but extensive choice and quality in everything else. Nespresso coffee machines.

Review 86:Having to continuously sign into the wifi is annoying. Also staff were not overly helpful. While the hotel was very clean it could do with a little updating.

Review 87:Great location and roof top pool.

Review 88:Room had dirty floor, and an unpleasant smell. Very noisy with windows open, quiet when closed. With closed windows, the air conditioning and the odour made the room feel unwelcoming.

Review 89:The Evening meal was excellent. Location was good for seeing the Dali museum, right in the center of town.

Review 90:Car park was bit steep at 15 Euro's a night, especially after we discovered that the public underground carpark next to the park only cost 2 Euro's for 24hrs.

Review 91:peaceful, clean, with air-con comfort, friendly staff, slept like a baby !!

Review 92:Slippery bathtub, no grip bars. Hair dryer from another era..Dining room should open earlier for families with children.

Review 93:Location was near the Dali Museum and restaurants. Very good breakfast. Hotel is old but very good.

Review 94:Could have had the parking rules explained . ..a yellow square is not a parking spot!

Review 95:Located right in the middle of town...minutes from Dali Museum. Restaurant looks good. Staff were helpful....but didn't tell me about the parking rules and i paid 98 euros to get my car back. Not the best hotel for children

Review 96:Our room was too SMALL for two people, each with one suitcase. It is clearly designed for ONE PERSON ONLY. A road direction map from car park should be provided. Indicating the direction of traffic to assist guests who are odriving from car park to hotel to collect suitcases.

Review 97:The restaurant staff is wonderfully attentive.

Review 98:I was very surprised the bar only opens at 8:30 pm at the same time as the restaurant, so unable to have an aperitif. I was also not very impressed with the food in the restaurant, overpriced and gave me a runny tummy!

Review 99:Location of hotel, cleanliness of room.

Review 100:Very slow to non -existent wi-fi connection . When I called the desk about it I was disconnected and noone tried to call me back. They did not answer a second time. The person on the desk did not speak English and also could not, apparently, smile. I needed information about the train schedule and she had difficulty helping me. Another person in front of me at the desk spoke Spanish and was still rolling his eyes about the unhelpfulness of this person.

Review 101:The restaurant is very beautiful. There are fascinating photos of Dali with the owners on the wall behind the bar. Nice reception area. Convenient location.

Review 102:Rooms have absolutely no sound proofing neither. Lots of noise from neighboring rooms and loud talking in the corridors.

Review 103:Excellent position in the centre of town.

Review 104:Funny blocked drain smell in the room Parking was a pricey 15 euros

Review 105:Location, close to Dali's museum Modern rooms with flat screen TV, some international channels Price of room was reasonable

Review 106:Wifi free but not great - mine was at its best when I was on the loo! You are given a ticket when you arrive with login and p/w so make sure you get one for each device.

Review 107:Modern, clean and very comfortable hotel with a warm welcome and more than a touch of the Dali magic when you see the pictures of the owner with Dali at numerous events in the 60s. Very welcoming, good parking nearby under the careful eye of a supervisor and even places to park outside temporarily while unloading.

Review 108:Excellent hotel near Dali museum and the Rambla. The best place if you want to visit Figueres. The rooms are clean and very cozy. Not noisy. Free, and good, wifi and free safebox. Very appreciated both.

Review 109:Wifi was awful, and staff could have been a bit more friendly. We asked for help with opening a bottle of wine we had bought from a shop (for consumption in our room) and were told that the hotel didn't have any means of opening the bottle for us. Car parking is way too expensive ...

Review 110:Location is great, rooms were clean and modern

Review 111:The main restaurant is expensive for dinner. €147 for three people, two starters, three main courses, 1 dessert, 1 bottle of white wine, 2 glasses of red wine & 1 cafe cognac.

Review 112:The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable.

Review 113:Check out in the morning was painfully slow. Only one person working the queue and obviously an old system inputting paper receipts into the bill. I asked if the garage was open, 'yes', to find it closed and a walk back to the hotel (only 300m, but after the checkout delays, frustrating. Parking €15 and door is left open during the day time.

Review 114:Location near the Dali museum. Nice atmospheric hotel in the centre of town. Parking nearby.

Review 115:as to my opinion parking and breakfast overpriced. Tip: better get breakfast in any cafe nearby. No minibar/refrigerator in the room.

Review 116:good location just 100 meters from Dali museum and center of city, rooms clean and spacious.

Review 117:-Personal is visiting room in my absence even No Molesten/Do not disturb notice is hanging at the door.

Review 118:-In the middle of the town -Parking very comfortable -Clean rooms -Wi-Fi wothout charge -Kind personal -Good atmosphere

Review 119:Reception person when we arrived was not helpful or friendly. We made 3 trips downstairs to find out things that she should have told us when we arrived (such as you must use your room key to get electricity, and thus lights, in your room).

Review 120:Very clean, comfortable beds, nice bathroom with great water pressure and especially great location for visiting the Dali Museum

Review 121:No need to take the car park (15€/day) you can park your car 200m from the hotel quite easily. We did try breakfast because it is too expensive 11€. But there is a nice bakery (with seat upstairs) near Dali museum providing nice cakes, croissants and terrific orange juice

Review 122:Location is good

Review 123:Nothing other than that the restaurant menu included thrush. I would hope that we live in a more civilised world than one that accepts the killing of songbirds. I have written to the hotel to make this point.

Review 124:Traditional and well appointed family hotel with Dali connections and original artwork. Superb restaurant with good food and service which was high quality but not expensive.

Review 125:Nothing

Review 126:The location of the hotel, a five-minute walk from the Dali museum, could not be better. The rooms are very spacious and clean. The staff is very helpful. The restaurant, while extremely traditional in look and a little pricey, offers a wide menu and wine selection and the food was excellent. The restaurant staff was extremely friendly, efficient and helpful in suggesting local specialties. The overall experience was better than in many 4-star establishments in Spain. Would definitely recommend.

Review 127:No tea & coffee making facilities in the room. Service at the hotel bar was non existent and let down what was otherwise a very enjoyable stay. Even when you repeatedly ask for service at the bar, they don't seem interested and so we left and went elsewhere for a drink.

Review 128:Excellent location, clean & comfortable.

Review 129:Mix up in Bill Presented with someone else dinner bill the distance to take luggage to car in garage Parking charge made good value into poor value

Review 130:Pleasant room

Review 131:Parking not easy to access with a big car Receptionists could have been more welcoming

Review 132:The standard of the facilities was very high - and very clean

Review 133:Staff a bit starchy.

Review 134:First and foremost, bed was the most comfortable mattress my wife and I have ever experienced!! Location great - near restaurants, museums, town squares, shops, parking. Easy to access and egress.

Review 135:Access to the hotel along one way street system is a bit of a puzzle.

Review 136:From arrival onwards a exceptionally pleasant stay, helpful staff and excellent restaurant.
