Reviews for Hotel Mérida Palace
Review 1:Very noisy into the wee hours of the morning Poor bathroom amenities (for "5star") Bad customer service (for "5star") - ignoring guests due to understaffing is not an option, and a Manager on duty must respond to complaints and not leave the concierge or waiter to do this
Review 2:Great location
Review 3:Nothing
Review 4:Great spot... Central... And to all those people who complain about noise... Don't stay central... You can't have it both ways! Mind you we were not bothered by noise at all. Parking arrangement very good ( valet). Great spacious room and bathroom. Good wifi.
Review 5:The hotel was basically empty, but we were given the room on the first (i.e., second) floor right above the restaurant. The restaurant had a very late party. At 1 a.m., they started to play loud music. The hotel gave us another room, but they knew about the party and should have given us a room upstairs in the first place
Review 6:Right on the main square, nice rooms
Review 7:was very noisy outside untill 4am although I am sure was not hotel fault was Friday eve and sounded like teenagers
Review 8:hotel was very central and parking was sorted for you staff helpful facilities in room excellent very enjoyable
Review 9:Nothing!
Review 10:The hotel is very well located. The staff was helpful, efficient, kind and polite. The room was quite spacious with a wonderful view over the most central Plaza of Merida. We had our breakfast and two meals at the Cafeteria: very good. The parking arrangement was not cheap but it was excellent.
Review 11:Merida is extraordinary in terms of its antiquities. Its "Roman Museum" is remarkable both for its collection and architecture. The Merida Palace is in an ideal location to see the best of Merida, which is an "off the beaten track" gem of a city. Our suite was very large and comfortable. Breakfast was fine. All in all, a wonderful experience.
Review 12:This hotel is beautifully located, is lovely in all respects, and the staff eager to assist with any issues. While many of these features may be shared by other hotels, I cannot emphasize enough the sense of awe and comfort one has on entering the atrium.
Review 13:This is not a 5 stars hotel. Lot of dust on walls and lamps. The floor tile is broken, the balcony has no chairs and table, very few towels, no 5 stars standart.
Review 14:Good location, helpfool staff.
Review 15:Location was great...easy walk from train station and to all the amazing Roman ruins in the town. Lovely plaza in front of hotel...very enjoyable relaxing here after dinner. Hotel was beautiful; breakfast very nice. We have already recommended Merida and this hotel to friends who are planning a trip next year.
Review 16:I ask for a double bed only. But when we arrive they were only smokers room with double bed. I didn't know that in 2015 there are still hotels, especially 5stars one who accept people to smoke inside the rooms. There were strong smoke smells in these rooms so we had to choose a room with twin beds. So if you are non smokers and wanna sleep on a double bed, I clearly advice you to choose another hotel. The girl at the reception were not welcoming. It was like we were disturbing her. I believe being nice with customers is a minimum for a hotel employee. People were singing in the street so we couldn't sleep. But it was not the hotel fault.
Review 17:Localization is great The hotel is beautiful Wifi is good
Review 18:Room entrance door was faulty and the glass sliding door in the bathroom was broken at the bottom corners and 3 large cracks across the door made it extremely dangerous.
Review 19:Location and car parking service
Review 20:Great hotel in a beautiful old palace at the central square of historic Merida Great start for the exploration of this nice city and its monuments of Roman and medieval origin.
Review 21:More information about the hotel and Merida in the room would be welcome.
Review 22:Perfect location in the centre of Merida, ideal for sightseeing the many historical monuments and museums. Superb conversion from former palace to modern hotel, particularly the courtyard and "tujillas perlada" mezzanine area.
Review 23:Nothing really the negative reviews were a bit off putting but we did not experience any problems, yes they still offer smoking rooms but we waited for a non smoking room. Other wise excellent, good breakfast and car valet service efficient
Review 24:location and staff
Review 25:Needed USB portal connection for wifi in room- no use for phone or iPad. Poor wifi anyway in public area. Asked for quiet room but hotel is right in busiest square and very noisy until late from teenagers even in side street where my room overlooked. However it was a Friday night and hotel did try to accommodate my request
Review 26:Central location. Clean. Pleasant helpful staff. Parked in side street overnight cheaper than valet parking offered.
Review 27:This hotel does not justify a 5 star rating. It is probably a 4 star. Our rooms were a little tired and would benefit from a redecoration as would the bathrooms which were a little shabby. The air conditioning system was temperamental and unreliably in both rooms. The hotel provides parking at 17 Euro a day which is expensive
Review 28:Excellent location, easy to find and very convenient for the major sights of Merida. All staff members were helpful and the restaurant serves very good food
Review 29:The rooms are quite old fashion, no TV upgrade since 90's and no signal in it. Under the bef was a lot of dust. Breakfast very basic for price 12€ each!
Review 30:I love the location and the building. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 31:16 euros to park the car overnight is a bit steep, and breakfast wasnt included in the room price.
Review 32:Great location and beautiful building. Very nice room with fab seperate shower. Really recommend for people visiting merida as we walked easily to all the sites.
Review 33:The location was fabulous - right at the main square and an easy walk to the Roman Bridge. The hotel itself was beautiful - we really felt we were in Spain rather than in a modern chain. Lots of atmosphere.
Review 34:There were no instructions in hotel reception or room so you had to find your own way around. No tourist information sheets. Bed was very hard. Although car parked for you elsewhere 17 euros a day adds up when you stay a few nights.
Review 35:Very central for Roman Remains. Set on the square with an abundance of cafes. Breakfast was good with a variety to choose from.
Review 36:Tiny detail really - I wish the decoration was a little bright blue and red/yellow - it would make the place that bit classier to use more muted tones.
Review 37:Fabulous building. Greatl location. Very good staff. What's not to like?
Review 38:Staff on the front desk were not helpful. One carried on folding paper and ignored us totally. Gave out no information about the hotel and surrounding area. Nothing in English.
Review 39:Location
Review 40:Lack of service, the waiter at breakfast was not interested, our food was cold, he took it away and it came back as cold. It took 50 mins for our car to arrive from the car park
Review 41:The location
Review 42:Really excellent reception people; on arrival in morning we dropped our suitcases and our belongings at reception, left them our car keys and immediately went off to see the sights. They parked our car & took our things up to our room. It was great to use the roof top pool in the middle of town, though there wasn’t room for a lot of people. Room spotless & full of character.
Review 43:Our room had no view apart from a wall a few metres away. The safe was not working when we arrived - new batteries were required. The bidet drain plug would not open when we arrived and had to be freed by maintenance. Both of these indicate inadequate checking between guests. The beds were rather hard. The room lighting was poor. Wifi is only available in the public areas - we had to use a LAN line in the bedroom.
Review 44:The hotel is well located for all the major sites. The room and bathroom are well appointed. The restaurant dinner was adequate and not expensive.
Review 45:Hotel cleaning procedures failed to discover that our room had been occupied by smokers earlier, so towels and lined had a bad smell.
Review 46:Beautiful hotel in very central location. Staff were very kind.
Review 47:Wifi not available in rooms No space to drop off luggage "on site" parking is not on site and they require 20 minutes notice to retrieve your car. Fine if just an overnight visit but would be extremely awkward if car required several times (and expensive) Not really a 5 star property even by Spanish standards
Review 48:In the sentre of the city with easy access to all parts ancient and modern
Review 49:The evening menu was withdrawn without notice and no reason given by the restaurant staff. We had returned from an evening out especially for the meal.
Review 50:The location was good, valet parking and lovely room. The staff were helpful at all times.
Review 51:The glass bathroom door was cracked - could be dangerous. The safe wasn't working. No WIFI in the room, but they did provide a cable for direct internet connection. The hotel is generally looking a bit tired.
Review 52:A lovely hotel and although they have no parking, their driver takes your vehicle to the Parking Garage and fetches it again when you check out - great service. Breakfast was superb with many choices and lots of fresh food.
Review 53:it's really not a 5 star place. The building and its interior are old. the staff's English abilities are limited.
Review 54:It's a good deal for the price. The breakfast costed 12 euro but god quality.
Review 55:Spacious room with balcony facing the main square, and big bathroom. Very clean and quiet. WiFi worked very well, despite the hotel stuff told us the signal wasn't strong in the rooms due the thick walls. The hotel was easy to reach by car and there is free parking on the streets nearby (10min walking). Hotel stuff was very nice and helpful.
Review 56:The location was perfect to explore the Roman ruins of the town, as well as the town's restaurants and nightlife. The staff was extremely courteous, pleasant and helpful.
Review 57:Lack of parking nearby which necessitated the use of the hotel garage (off site).
Review 58:Easy to find - right on the main square. Nicely furnished room, pleasant staff. Beautiful entrance foyer with relaxed atmosphere for drinks/coffee/lunch.
Review 59:17.- € pro day for parking the car. No (tortas de Casar) Extremadura cheese for breakfast, breakfast was only O. K. No swimming pool. No wifi connection in room, only regular. Internet connection in hotel hall.
Review 60:The hotel location, the building, the hall and the room were excellent.
Review 61:The senior supervisor on check out was officious and spoke to me as if I was not a paying guest. Arrogant and the other staff seemed intimidated by her brusque manner. Has affected my view of the hotel
Review 62:Check in staff and bar staff helpful.
Review 63:The hotel food was mediocre. The wifi does NOT work in the rooms, and in the reception area is poor and sporadic. It failed many times even with few people in the area.
Review 64:The history and roman sights are marvellous. The museum is world class. The people very friendly.
Review 65:Location perfect for our one night stay. Staff very friendly & helpful, car was parked for us too. Room over looked the square, close to everything & the double glazing worked a treat!
Review 66:Although we had a room at the side of the hotel and even with double glazing the noise from the square at the front of the hotel we could still hear until 4.00am !
Review 67:Very comfortable hotel with a huge double bed and up-to-date en-suit facilities. We had a delicious evening meal in the restaurant which was excellent value and we would recommend this to anyone.
Review 68:My husband and I are walking the Camino de Santiago. We had booked this hotel for 2 nights from Vancouver. We extended our reservation to 3 nights on arrival because my husband was ill.We arrived early and the staff took our bags and prepared a room for us quickly. They went out of their way to accommodate us. I particularly thank the man at the bar who helped us choose meals for my husband to help him recover. The hotel is situated on a beautiful plaza, in the best possible location to find all of the things we needed. Large rooms, great beds, large bathrooms.comfort
Review 69:No bad experiences but an aesthetic shock of the first order. Not only the oddly decorated (and enclosed) palace courtyard, but the extraordinary combination of 'mudéjar' and 'Roman' kitsch in the rooms took some getting used to! Luckily the rooms are spacious and beautifully equipped.
Review 70:Excellent facilities at a very good price.
Review 71:Everything was dirty. The bed cover was a dirty blanket.the restaurant was with awful quality. If you order caramel creme they bring you a packed one from the store and 10 times more expensive.
Review 72:Wi-Fi...I understand that it is an old building and the walls are thick but no Wi-Fi in the rooms or the breakfast area in the 21st century is a little rubbish. There is technology available to solve this. The bed was really hard and so a little uncomfortable for me as I don't like hard beds. In the breakfast room there was a very large patch of stained and flaking ceiling which I felt should have been addressed for a five star hotel. Also the coffee at breakfast was probably the worst coffee I have ever had in Spain.
Review 73:The hotel is situated in the Heart of Merida very very close to everything that you need. The hotel lobby is amazing and very impressive. The staff were wonderful and super helpful. The room was spacious and clean and the breakfast was very good with a wide selection of things on offer. I would stay in this hotel again if we were in Merida
Review 74:OMG - they really messed up the design in this place. The building is nice on the outside, but beware insight. Essentially it is an old Melia property, in desperate need of renovation, now operated by a different chain.
Review 75:Location is very central.
Review 76:The hotel needs an update, the decoration is a bit dated. Wi-Fi only works in the central patio and is slower than molasses. It gets rather cold in the sitting room and central patio in the evening. The TV in the room was very antiquated.
Review 77:Staff is very helpful and friendly. The half board is something to consider and take into account, the menue is good and a very good deal . Breakfast is plentiful. ,The parking is away from the hotel but the staff takes care of that and brings you the car when you need it.
Review 78:Decor could use an update, wifi did not work in room, had to descend to lobby.
Review 79:The location in the heart of town, near the Roman bridge, valet parking.
Review 80:No wifi. They have wifi but it does not reach the rooms because of the thick walls so only wifi in lounge. On a business trip this is not convenient and less for a 5 star hotel.
Review 81:Location was great.
Review 82:The parking, which costs 17 euro, is located elsewhere. Although the staff take care of your car once you leave it at the entrance, you need to wait some half an hour before it's brought back when you check out.
Review 83:Central location, great stylish exterior and interior of the hall and the room, perfect view to the main place of the town, excellent value for money. They also offered a pretty good deal for a dinner+breakfast in the in-house high-class restaurant. Service and meals were perfect, and for the breakfast we had a buffet with local specialties (along with standard breakfast stuff)
Review 84:We went for breakfast the first morning and it was terrible. We could not eat any of it - cold & old. When we checked out we disputed the amount for breakfast telling the front desk person (Marrisa ?) our disappointment in eating. She did not want to hear anything about it. She said since we walked into the breakfast room we would be charged whether we ate or not. I asked for the General Manager's name and email address to let him know about the breakfast and also the rudeness (Marrisa) and when I sent an email it came back "unknown". Yes we would stay at the hotel again, but never ever eat breakfast or interact with Marrisa!
Review 85:We liked the location of the hotel. We were given an upgrade at the time we checked in. The room was spacious with french doors and the bed was very comfortable.
Review 86:Despite booking a no-smiling room, our first room smelled terrible and even had an ash-tray. Our reallocated room was very pleasant. The valet parking worked, but took 1/2 hour.
Review 87:Large, but good looking hotel. Decent breakfast. Comfortable room. Close to the Roman bridge, and a pleasant walk through town to the main Roman sights.
Review 88:The staff were very helpful and friendly. When we arrived they took care of the luggage and parked the car for us. The lobby bar was great for nightcap drinks, the breakfast was very good. Location is ideal for walking around Merida.
Review 89:Nothing.
Review 90:Thus hotel faces the square, and we were provided a room right across from it on the second floor. Very convenient. Breakfast offered just air everything one could want for breakfast.
Review 91:no wifi reception at all in any of the rooms. Very poor and should be upgraded to meet modern needs.
Review 92:location in beautiful building and in a beautiful, spanish plaza right in the middle of town and perfect for all the sights. Excellent evening meal in the restaurant. Very generous breakfast with lots of choice. Luxurious rooms and bathrooms. Couldbe noisy but ok with window closed and air con on. Excellent valet parking service. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 93:Ability to walk to all the sights and enjoy the life in the square - good people watching over a glass of wine amd some tapas. The room we were initially shown to overlooked the square, which we felt would be noisy on a Friday night. We were moved to a quiet 3rd floor room without any problem. After wandering all day we decided to eat in the hotel's restaurant, something we don't normally chose to do. The menu was good and our food was delicious. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. Breakfast was also good although I did struggle to get a good cup of English tea!
Review 94:I prefer rectangular pilows rather than the long ones. ( Best I have had were at The Four Seasons ), and better soap.
Review 95:Left some clothes back and they were instantly restored to me. Everything was really nice. We loved it ,
Review 96:There is a dangerous small step about two metres in from the reception desk. There is no warning marking and my wife had a bad fall. No Wifi in bedroom although you can hire an ethernet cable to make a wired connection. But slow speed. Bedroom of adequate size for short stay but bathroom very cramped Lighting inadequate in bedroom and particularly in the bathroom. Difficult for make up and shaving. No guide to the history of the building.
Review 97:Location excellent Lovely old building well converted Price was excellent at €65 for twin bedded room plus €20 per person for half board (lunch and breakfast). Lunch was bit basic but buffet breakfast good.
Review 98:Be careful if you are coming by car. It´s very difficult to drive to hotel by car if you are not familiar to the city.
Review 99:the location, premisses, style, excellent. staff very positive and helpful.
Review 100:Large spacious room. We were lucky enough to have a room with a balcony and which overlooked the main square. Very good breakfast. Had dinner there, normally we would dine away from the hotel we were staying at but the atmosphere and surroundings were so nice at the Bluecity we decided to dine at the hotel.
Review 101:Secure parking was half a mile away. Valet parking was available however we were on motorbikes, so it was a bit of a hike. Just remember to unload your bike before taking it to the car park.
Review 102:Location, atmosphere and breakfast were all excellent.
Review 103:A fantastic and interesting city, but take comfortable shoes as you'll be doing a lot of walking! Hotel is perfectly situated right in the heart of the action. The plaza is endlessly fascinating - just grab a drink and watch the world go by.
Review 104:Quite difficult to find the first time.
Review 105:Central location - quality staff who are so helpful - lovely rooms. Like the Valet parking facility after a long drive!
Review 106:The reception service was very slow, had long queues to check-in/out or wait to ask questions. Need to improve.
Review 107:Good hotel with excellent location right in the heart of Merida; comfortable room
Review 108:Car valet service: The staff didn’t advise us that we needed to ask for the car 30 minutes before we needed it. So we ask for the car only when check out was made and therefore we waited for 55 minutes to get the car. Diner service was very poor: They offered a special price for half pension, but when we sat down to have diner we waited for about 15 minutes for the waiter and he only came because a claim was made on the reception. After that, from the menu supplied by the reception with 3 options for first course, only one could be ordered, another one was replaced and the 3rd did not exist. The same happened for the 2nd course and the desert. We asked salmon for main course and it was not cooked enough and cold on inside. We claimed for that and the waiter brought us the same salmon, probably after a visit to micro-wave oven, which is not acceptable for a 5 star hotel.
Review 109:Very good room size with an excellent decoration and location. Very comfortable. The reception staff, after we claimed about the problems with the diner, was very diligent and kind and decided not to charge us for the diner.
Review 110:Parking is a nightmare and breakfast preordered at a rate of 9 Euros still is priced at 12 Euros on your bill. Not quite deserving of 5 stars, with paper napkins etc.
Review 111:Beautiful architecture and decor characterize this hotel. Staff is great and the location is right on the plaza mayor. Excellent value, even for a longer stay
Review 112:The facility is outdated. Over priced breakfast buffet. They were going to charge a 5 year old full price on the buffet.
Review 113:Location is great! It is right on a beautiful plaza.
Review 114:Internet is slow The telephone does not work The swimming pool is small The hair dryer wasn't working properly If you are a couple is staying in a room, they only put one set of towels.
Review 115:Amazing staff and very friendly Comfortable In the city center close to everything The parking service works very well
Review 116:Level of quality and service you expect in a 5-star was disappointing: - Furniture is old (television from the 80's) - The sheet in the bed had a huge hole - Toiletteries were scarce and of average quality - Only one clerk at the reception - huge ques for checkout - Service in the breakfast room was slow. Many things were missing when we arrived - we had to wait a lot before a new stock of food was placed in the room
Review 117:Rooms are big Location is very good Breakfast is OK
Review 118:Booked as 5* hoping that they would cater for pre-advised dietary requirements. A forlorn hope. Also little of the palace remains, so disappointing
Review 119:No significant merits!
Review 120:Check in took too long , lower efficiency in work , wifi not working for North America iPhone ,iPad, no public computer to use, swimming poor is tiny , it's not convenient for people who come from North America . It can't be 5 stars at all . Will never stay there again ...
Review 121:Only Location is good , hotel building is nice ,room is clean
Review 122:Problems with Internet. Issue was resolved within an hour.
Review 123:Amazing building - modern style built on an ancient base. Very comfortable and clean. Good amenities, pool on a roof, very good restaurant, parking. Staff is professional and friendly.
Review 124:No wifi in rooms, in public areas the wifi didn't work. By no means a five star hotel.
Review 125:Small roof top pool, nice room with a balcony, clean. The ganitor was more friendly and helpful than rest of the staff :)
Review 126:We asked for a double bed and they gave us two beds together... we realized too late... Apparently they do not have wi-fi...
Review 127:Very good service, very clean, large room. Right in the city center.
Review 128:The parking facilities are understandably awkward. No coffee-making facilities or water-jug in room or coffee machine elsewhere (should not have to pay for early-morning coffee of water or wait until 10am for attendant in bar). Bar not very well stocked and could be more appealing (bar stools?) Not enough information on local facilites, maps etc. at reception.
Review 129:The building and location in a busy and attractive piazza and close to Roman ruins. The period decor. The bedroom and bathroom, and the fact that it formed a mini-suite. The friendliness and attentiveness of staff. Efficient lifts.
Review 130:The rooms need some refurbish. One of the glass doors in our bathroom was broken. Room furniture needs a change, a bit old. There is no wifi in the rooms. Guests have to go down to the large courtyard to use the hotel wifi connection.
Review 131:The large patio and the architecture gives you a nice feeling. It is centrally located.
Review 132:Paying 17 E per day for parking; Wi-Fi would not work for me; No towels or lockers at sauna & pool area. Small comments rather than complaints...it is very good.
Review 133:Very central location; very stylish, w/mixed architecture Great ambience Good restaurant; Fine room with good en-suite; Lovely roof-top sun-deck with small plunge-pool, fitness centre and sauna Totally recommend
Review 134:Very good hotel
The Fine Print
