Reviews for Hotel Gastronómico San Miguel

Review 1:It was a fantastic location. Lovely decor and the room was comfortable. It was wonderful to have a bath and fresh-smelling bathroom products after walking the Camino de Frances. Breakfast was good. Staff were helpful.

Review 2:Breakfast was on the expensive side, especially as it was only continental.

Review 3:The location was great, very clean, comfortable and modern. Beds very comfortable.

Review 4:the only drawback was that you can't access by car, and can be tricky to find. the central city parks are about 400m away.

Review 5:great Hotel and very nice staff : - incredible bed - Unbeatable location - nice Staff - definitely recommended

Review 6:Be sure to have a good map if arriving on foot. Not visible from Cathedral even if only a few hundred meters away.

Review 7:Had a large suite with sitting room and enjoyed it very much. Breakfast buffet is a good value for the money. Evening meal more pricey than typical pilgrim menu but is also much higher end.

Review 8:The hotel staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and the accommodations superb. Guest should be sure to dine at the hotel restaurant. Chef Javier prepares an exceptionally delicious menu and Mario, presents the food with a broad smile--best dining in Santiago!

Review 9:location, interior design, very good food in the restaurant; helpfull receptionist. We would use the same hotel when we come back to Santiago de Compostela.

Review 10:There was not one thing that did not please us

Review 11:We love everything about this hotel. We stayed here last year and again this year and were just thrilled with the place. Can't beat the rooms, the service, the staff and the location.

Review 12:We had a room on the fifth floor that overlooked the roofs of Santiago. It was a beautiful view and the room was lovely. It was a great way to relax after walking on the Camino

Review 13:I loved this place from the most helpful and friendly Louisa at reception to my Juliette balcony overlooking the square! Really comfortable and stylish and dinner in the restaurant was a highlight - beautiful food and very reasonable for the quality.

Review 14:The restaurant was closed Sunday and Monday which was a pity as we would have liked to eat in. The weather was particularly bad the Sunday and Monday nights of our stay - thunder storm with very heavy rain - and we really didn't want to go out to look for somewhere to eat.

Review 15:The staff were extremely helpful. Location excellent. Buffet breakfast really nice - extra charge - but worth it. Minibar prices good value.

Review 16:Nothing I did not like!

Review 17:Lovely setting away from noise but easy walking distance to cathedral. Great decor, very clean and comfortable. Very helpful staff. Loved my stay there.

Review 18:Nothing!

Review 19:The staff - helpful and friendly - even managing to retrieve my walking pole that I had left at the last hotel we stayed at on the Camino and have it sent to this hotel. The food was fabulous - restaurant standard but at really reasonable prices. The hotel was ideally located close to the cathedral and the historic centre, The rooms were modern and I was delighted to find a bath as well as a shower - after a long day's walk it was lovely to sink into a deep bath, L'Occitaine bath products were heavenly!

Review 20:Fish came out cold in restaurant and service was poor in restaurant, breakfast not great, wifi slow and intermittent, air conditioning turned off without warning and room became too hot to sleep.

Review 21:Large room and very clean hotel

Review 22:Noise in late evening/early morning spoilt our stay. Seemingly residents can stay on streets until 1.30am legally. Take a rear facing room to avoid.

Review 23:Excellent facilities with helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast good value

Review 24:We spent three nights in hotel in late September. Two nights were disturbed with late night activities. Thursday from the University and Sat from local activities..

Review 25:Hotel was comfortable and good location for walking to Cathedral and center of Santiago.

Review 26:There was street noise on Friday night that was unavoidable.

Review 27:Our rooms were great, the views from the room were spectacular, and the breakfast was delicious, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 28:Our room was at the front of the hotel. About fifty yards from the hotel entrance was a bar/club. It opened at 8.00pm and from then onwards until the early hours of the morning loud talking and music spilled onto the street making it difficult to get any sleep.

Review 29:Clean spacious room. The hotel is located close to the Cathedral and within walking distance of all the places of interest.

Review 30:Soundproofing within the hotel Slightly late breakfast start time (8.30) meant we couldn't have breakfast before leaving

Review 31:Central location Spacious room Big comfortable bed, lots of pillows Luxurious modern bathroom L'Occitane toiletries Big velux skylight with view of the city rooftops and towers

Review 32:Would have been nice to have option of cooked breakfast....

Review 33:Perfect location walking distance from Cathedral after our Camino journey. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great views from our room windows and room was beautifully set out and very comfortable.

Review 34:Great location, modern inside but old world out. Great staff ever helpful. If driving there, ensure you contact hotel for access details. It is in a restricted traffic area and access for drop off is tricky. Otherwise, could not rate more highly.

Review 35:I had a good experience, but I think a morning coat is a given in a hotel as well as hair conditioner - this was not the case. The restaurant was closed during the day as well.

Review 36:central location and a very nice view

Review 37:Reception was haphazardly manned and no warmth of reception on arrival or when dealing with queries. The diningroom was clinical and rarely more than one table occupied and so I did not dine there despite the name of the hotel. I would have preferred a smaller friendlier place and would not return despite the comfortable bed.

Review 38:Beautiful view of San Martino Pinario from my room. The bed was really comfortable and the linen the nicest ever - had to pull it out to see label and find out who made it - Bassols 1790! Nice L'Occitane toiletries. Very quiet.

Review 39:Would have rated excellent but the restaurant had problems accommodating us when we asked it seemed to be a problem and it was the one aspect that let this otherwise outstanding hotel down.

Review 40:Fantastic Room clean and very comfortable. Great location

Review 41:Wonderful small hotel only a few steps away from the cathedral, but very quiet. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast, I would have loved to try the restaurant in the evening, but unfortunately it was closed Sunday and Monday.

Review 42:I would have liked some hot breakfast items, eggs, bacon, tomato :)

Review 43:The room was lovely, clean and very comfortable. Especially loved the sun room for relaxing and the bath was an absolute luxury after walking 790km. Breakfast was great.

Review 44:Beautiful, large bedroom with oh so comfy beds! Great location close to restaurants and shops but down a side street so very quiet at night. The food in the restaurant was superb. We didn't eat breakfast here as we saved our appetites for tapas at lunch. We met 2 receptionists during our stay, one was non-smiling but efficient and the other was very friendly and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. I would definitely return here.

Review 45:Difficult or impossible to access by car - public parking about 5 mins walk away (12 euros for 24 hours with a discount if you get the hotel to endorse the parking ticket). Not a major problem. Some street noise and church bells but very good sound insulation when the windows are closed.

Review 46:Great location, lovely old building, with tastefully modernised interior, in a beautiful square. Nice terrace area. Many good restaurants and bars within a very short walk. Comfortable well equipped room with balcony. Good wifi. Excellent buffet breakfast for 8.50 euros. Helpful and friendly staff. Recommended.

Review 47:Everything - from the welcome on arrival, the pristine and superbly comfortable room (and what a view!), and the excellent breakfast with freshly made organge juice and milky breakfast coffee made especially to cater for my allergies. I didn't get to eat in the restaurant in the evenings but the menu looked great. I did take my travel kettle as like most non-chain hotels, this did not provide one, but that's no criticism - it's the norm in this part of Europe.

Review 48:Wifi not as great as other places we have stayed in.

Review 49:Excellent hotel and location. Very handy to all attractions and lots of wonderful eating places nearby. Laundry service was efficient.

Review 50:Lovely room & bedding, including free L'occtaine products. Food was fabulous!!!! Parking a short walk from the hotel with a €10 per night charge.

Review 51:Breakfast should be more varied with boiled eggs and more breads / viennoiseries - these ran out v quickly and for €8.5, not value for money.

Review 52:Excellent location, clean and comfy rooms very tastefully arranged. Recommended.

Review 53:Modern rather lean and boring interior (you find similar interiors in many modern hotels, and it is almost impossible to distinguish them). Really in the centre, so not easy to reach by car (navigator offers little help here).

Review 54:Quite location in the middle of the old quaters of Santiago. Very comfortable beds. Room was good size. Breakfast was good. We did not have lunch here, but the menu looked promising.

Review 55:Lots of noise from surrounding bars but this was fiesta week and the hotel is very central so one should not really complain.

Review 56:It felt more like a luxury hotel.

Review 57:Loved this hotel. Fantastic room. Huge with little sitting room and fabulous bathroom. Brilliant location, just around the corner from the Cathedral in Santiago. Even though there were night long parties on the eve of the feast we didn't hear a thing once we went back to our room. Staff extremely helpful.

Review 58:Lovely hotel, great location, very comfortable & very clean. It would have received a 10 rating except it was not possible to get a drink or snack from the bar at 4.25pm on Monday & the first receptionist we encountered needs to learn how to smile :-) ! (the second receptionist we met was extremely helpful & friendly).

Review 59:We booked a twin room and a third person joined us and the hotel had no problem accommodating all of us for an very small extra fee. Location excellent and breakfast was the highlight from cheese to fruit to yogurt to cakes juice toast also the bed linen was top of the range pure comfort

Review 60:Loved the location, great staff. A minute or two walk from the Cathedral but a quiet street. Our room looked just as we had hoped from photos we had seen. Wonderful way to end our camino on el norte. We would return if we ever are in Santiago again.

Review 61:Nothing.

Review 62:Very spacious room including a window-enclosed sitting area furnished with a table and chairs as well as a sofa overlooking a garden courtyard. A comfortable bed and large well-equipped bathroom made for very pleasant stay. Just around the corner from the Pilgrim's way to the Cathedral and close to restaurants and tapas bars. On the whole an excellent choice of accommodation in Santiago di Compostela. The discount for hotel guests at La Salle parking station was appreciated.

Review 63:Only negative was the staff. They were not helpful at all and seemed to be in a very grouchy mood. Also did not speak English very well

Review 64:Beautiful boutique hotel. great food. Good value for money

Review 65:The hotel has a great location, close to the cathedral but quiet. The room was very comfortable and we enjoyed having a sitting area overlooking the square. The breakfast was extremely good, plentiful, a wide choice and of high quality. All the staff we had dealings with were friendly and helpful

Review 66:The breakfast starts from 8:30, and I personally think it's too late when you have some appointments in the morning.

Review 67:Very convenient location, and staff is very helpful. I really loved the room, which has a small balcony and enabled me to feel relaxed.

Review 68:nothing

Review 69:good, no nonsense hotel in a perfect location. Warm welcome, great room with a view, nicely and modern decorated. Very good breakfast. Possibility to have dinner.

Review 70:*Tea and coffee facilities in the room were greatly missed. *The remote control for the TV did not work. *Although I was the sole occupant of the room ( stated in my booking reservation) was charged for two buffet breakfast, which found outrageous !! When addressing the issue to the receptionist she was not very forthcoming, and insisted that this was selected by me when doing the reservation online, although I was never given any other option ... Finally I had to get in touch with "Booking" which agreed for a refund immediately . I am still waiting apparently due to a backlog... The hotel although rather quaint ,is well overpriced(Room prices)

Review 71:*The room was beautiful and comfortable. *Newly refurbished to a good standard *Gorgeous bed linen new and well pressed. and very clean in the core of the old town. *Wonderful views. *The waiters were very accommodating *Restaurant: Menu very decent with local produce, good quality and reasonably priced

Review 72:Unfortunately we did not enjoy the meal we had in the restaurant of the hotel.

Review 73:Hotel was in a great location close to the Cathedral and all the bars and restaurants. The staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms exceptionally comfortable. The hotel was very clean with a lovely terraced garden.

Review 74:We could not sit on the terrace in the afternoon because of intrusive music. We had dinner in the hotel on one night. It was poor (and expensive).

Review 75:A lovely room with super views. Very central.

Review 76:In Australia they say too much sport is not enough. I imagine the pay tv channels have this market cornered, but it would have been good to catch up with tennis and Badu, until spain starts publishing their equivalent to El Sportivo or L'Equipe.

Review 77:Well set up breakfast suited us. The room was spacious and comfortable. We ate dinner there one night. The set menu degustation was delicious accompanied by the waiter's choice of wines for my birthday girl. Wifi was great.

Review 78:The desk has only one person and in the morning the poor gal is checking people out, making coffee and addressing the needs of the breakfast room. We had to wait patiently each time we wanted a cup of coffee (which is very good). people had to wait patiently to check out. The late afternoon check in was friendly and efficient. They need two people on duty. Also we were only given 1 key per room and that was inconvenient when we went separate ways.

Review 79:After walking the Camino, we four girlfriends stayed here for two nights. The hotel is beautiful and our room was large with two twin beds and had a sitting area with big windows that overlooked a large garden area. It was a very quiet room. We were next door to each other. There is an elevator as well as stairs!

Review 80:The location of this hotel is ideal -- close enough to the center of Santiago to make all the city's sights available, but on a quiet side street so you can avoid the late night noise typical of Spain. The rooms are large and comfortable and the restaurant is fantastic. All of the staff (except for one of the receptionists who always seemed a bit grumpy) were exceptionally helpful.

Review 81:Great location, very comfortable, including good quality soap, etc. Beautiful views, quiet neighbourhood in the heart of the old town. Good restaurant.

Review 82:Not good that reception did not open before 8. am

Review 83:Beautiful room and bathroom, with very nice toiletries. The hotel had a lovely terrace, would be nice place for lunch, unfortunately we arrived to late.

Review 84:We arrived a day earlier than expected and were able to change our reservation without any issues by the very helpful receptionist. Hotel has an elevator for weary peregrinos but stairs are available too. Beds were comfortable, showers were spacious, and bath products were excellent. Exterior room was quiet and well insulated even with two large windows and balconies. There was plenty of space to spread out and relax in the room.

Review 85:The front desk acted like I was intruding, and didn't welcome me, but I lived the room anyway.

Review 86:I didn't want to leave the room and the deep tub was wonderful after walking the Camino.

Review 87:My sister and I loved this hotel. It was the nicest place we stayed, and such luxury after walking. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The restaurant served wonderful food and we felt very spoiled. The location up behind the cathedral means that you have amazing views over the city and are in the old town.

Review 88:The hotel facilities were excellent with welcoming reception and bar area. The bedroom and bathroom was spacious and well equipped. All the staff from reception to cleaners were friendly and knowledgeable. The food in the restaurant was of a very good quality and the staff attentive.

Review 89:Just the last little bit of stairs to that lovely room. The room was not serviced by a lift.

Review 90:The fab view from my bedroom window. The comfy bed with lovely ensuite. Loved the excellent Breakfast

Review 91:We liked everything: the location, the friendly staff and the restaurant. We missed the breakfast, but luckily there is an excellent cafe just around the corner.

Review 92:A beautiful place to stay at the end of the Camino. Very friendly, helpful staff. Wonderfully comfortable beds. Luxurious bath. Delightful view of St. Miguel Plaza. Fabulous breakfast selection.

Review 93:This charming little hotel is well-located in a picturesque little square not far from the cathedral. Our rooms were very comfortable and there was a good selection of food at breakfast. I must make special mention of Luisa, who welcomed us most warmly on arrival and who was exceptionally helpful throughout our stay. This hotel is excellent value for money and I would definitely stay here again.

Review 94:Everything: Very spacious, beautifully furnished en-suite room wiht super views across the rooftops to the Cathedral. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice and lots of fresh fruit etc. I would rate this hotel the best for all-round excellence and value of any I have been to in western Europe. It also helps that Santiago de Compostela is the most amazing small city.

Review 95:Everything was great, the only thing that would have made it a 100% instead of 95% is the fact that there was no kettle in the room to make yourself a cup of tea.

Review 96:Everything. Amazing room with a nice view (even from the bathroom window!!).

Review 97:Nothing

Review 98:Almost everything. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room spacious and clean with lovely view over back garden courtyard. Location in old city so near many sites to see.

Review 99:If I had known that there would be redecorations taking place right outside my window which involved drilling, hammering and loud voices I would have booked elsewhere.

Review 100:The location, room and service are great. I liked the little alcove with chairs and table overlooking the square.

Review 101:Breakfast was officilly served only from 8.30h onwards. Some staff did not like to serve the breakfast earlier in order to allow our group to start the project meeting at 8.30h in another location in the city.

Review 102:Location, privacy, cleanliness. Cosy and nice small hotel in the historic centre of Santiago.

Review 103:Loud speaking people in the street at night may keep you awake.

Review 104:I had, for one person, a spacious, well maintained room with a splendid view. The breakfast is good.

Review 105:Everything was absolutely perfect even though I was quite ill and was in bed for two days, but the staff were marvelous and very attentive. I hope I can re-visit soon and especially when the restaurant is open.

Review 106:Everything was just perfect, the room, the staff, the dinner at the hotel's restaurant, the breakfast, the location. I will definitely come again.

Review 107:nothing.

Review 108:wonderful hotel, great position in a lovely city, want to return in the summer to enjoy the garden, as it looked an amazing space from our rooms windows.

Review 109:That I had to leave.

Review 110:After 40 days on the Camino, my stay at the Hotel Gastronómico San Miguel was like heaven itself. Located on a lovely quiet square a short walk from the Cathedral and not far from anywhere in the old city you'd like to go, this small hotel offers a peaceful retreat, welcome luxury that feels authentic, and wonderful large comfortable rooms with views that look out over the rooftops of the city. With a free week following my Camino I checked in thinking to stay only two nights. I wound up staying the entire week. This is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. Enjoy!

Review 111:Perfect location, just 200 m from the cathedral, but in a nice and quiet square. Everything was at the level of a good and modern 4 star hotel. It is a nice old building completly refurbished in a very modern and attractive style. Rooms have all you can need including kingsize bed, very cheap minibar, bathtube and even high quality amenities. Free and quick wi-fi. Breakfast is also quite good. The quality/price ratio is simply fantastic: 54 euro breakfast included. I intend to go with my wife because is good value for money.

Review 112:Perfect place sited in the center of Santiago. Very confortable and with a very friendly service. Better than pictures reflects. Modern facilities with a really good small gastro bar sited in the ground floor

Review 113:Can't knock it really although the rooms could maybe do with a wee bit TLC. Great location for exploring the Old Town. If you are going in Nov to March take an umbrella and waterproof shoes.

Review 114:The food in this place I found to be excellent, and everybody we met had a similar view! The quality is witnessed by the fact that a significant number of locals used this hotel for a night out! Good stuff! The room we were in was very pleasant with very comfortable beds, although minimalist. Santiago is great for fish lovers!!

Review 115:Liked everything about the place and our experience

Review 116:The room was light and airy and overlooked the terrace and out to the hills beyond. The huge bathroom had French doors and a view of the Cathedral spires. It was luxury and comfort and the perfect ending to our walk. Only complaint was that we were unable to have lunch at the hotel as we had failed to make a reservation. Staff was oh so apologetic and fixed us a room service tray. Great value and a special experience.

Review 117:The hotel would not charge mailing of postcards etc. to my room charges; but this is my only very minor complaint. Very pleased overall and would return!

Review 118:Location in this historic, charming town: far exceeded my expectations! Great proximity and convenience. Large, comfortable room, with the added bonus of a lovely sitting room - complete with a living, potted plant! -- overlooking a private, green garden. VERY nice. Free wifi. I was so pleased...

Review 119:Well,the car parking was an issue as there was no car access to hotel and we had to bring our luggage from a fair distance and park in a parking station. It was raining also,We returned our rental car early and took taxi to airport instead

Review 120:We had a lovely outlook over the very pretty garden with its tables and chairs. We loved our little sitting room with its pretty pink lounge. The hotel was compact and personal. We really enjoyed our breakfast and dinner

Review 121:nothing!

Review 122:Everything was just right. Nice bed and bedding Bathroom clean with nice toiletries. Lovely view from balcony All good at good price Will come again
