Reviews for Hospedería San Martín Pinario

Review 1:Staff were most accommodating, opportunity to take a van tour from the hotel to outer shores was exceptional, new years eve dinner was the best, as was breakfast each day....

Review 2:We didn't feel welcome in the dining room for lunch and dinner. It looked delicious but there was no handy info about what the menu would be. We were hikers at the end of our trip and would have loved a good meal, but we felt like we might have been too casual or underdressed to attend the meal times.

Review 3:Fabulous location. Rooms very comfortable.

Review 4:The mattress was really bad, and the bed very noisy. The walls are thin, so we could here the neighbours. All in all, we couldn't have a decent night sleep, which for us is a bigger negative than any positive this venue can offer.

Review 5:The location is excellent. And the building is truly beautiful.

Review 6:The best option form for visiting Santiago. Just beside the Cathedral. A good way for finishing the pilgrimage to Santiago. It is accessible by car.

Review 7:Leaving.

Review 8:Location, good close parking, history of building and area, good value, excellent simple food in restaurant and breakfast. All staff are helpful. Simple basic bedrooms. No mod cons.

Review 9:My wife dubbed this "The Mothership for Pilgrims", because of the great service, wonderful buffet breakfast, simple and beautiful rooms and atmosphere. Perfectly located next to the cathedral, clese to everything in the central of Santiago. Don't miss it!

Review 10:this hostel is located in the city center, where you can find a lot of local bars and also very close to the cathedral. We had a quite fair price for two nights and we really enjoyed our stay there!

Review 11:The building is an antique monastery, a monument itself in the middle of the monumental centre of the city. It's peaceful, silent, clean and has nice views.

Review 12:The perfect refuge from the hustle and bustle - peace and calm of a former monastery! From the grand entrance to the lovely lounges in alcoves placed along the corridors this was such a pleasure.

Review 13:Front desk staff can be arrogant...often ignoring non-Spanish speakers and often confrontational ( same experience with same person two years in a row! ) Top floor with basics often echo loud revelers at all hours of night...old monk rooms, not insulated for sound with old wooden doors. Light sleepers should be alerted!

Review 14:Location is everything...directly across from Cathedral of Saint James. Wonderfully done historic Monastery, with hotel rooms and suites on most floors and simple rooms available for those completing pilgrimage on fourth floor...wonderful breakfast buffet included...clean, nice linens.

Review 15:Overpriced for the room quality, which is little more than a religious cell with a bathroom. Booking.com did not make me aware that there was a pilgrims great, which is half the price of the regular room

Review 16:The location is brilliant. It sits right behind the Cathedral of Saint James s

Review 17:Miserable dinner staff and poor quality of dinner food which is a shame considering the location staff don't go out of their way to help.

Review 18:Unique historical building

Review 19:When booking online for 300 Euro a night I expected something accordingly. How great my disappointment when I found that I was given a cell with bed , small table and a chair. Hardly any room to move around. It was a bitter disappointment. When asking the reception about the idiotic price the hotel was charging I was told to hold on since they would ask the Boss. The Boss seemingly agreed immediately and brought it down to 100 Euro a night which was bearable. This all could have been avoided if it was mentioned online

Review 20:The location is indeed excellent.

Review 21:Room ok but shower v small, wifi hopeless while breakfast supplied was very average!

Review 22:Great location and good helpful staff on reception. Certainly retains the monastery look & feel.

Review 23:Terrible pillow - so hard. Only thing that was worse was the hard bed.

Review 24:Wonerful staff on reception who helped with our lost bags. Funny waiter in the dining room. Common room for pilgrims with bar. Proximity to the Cathedral.

Review 25:wi-fi even in the cafe was poor breakfast was disappointing

Review 26:staff lovely communal cafe great lunch -simple but delicious had triple room and it genuinely was - plenty of space (not just a fold out bed shoved in!)

Review 27:Replace the mattress it's very uncomfortable Fix the power socket it's hanging out of the wall and looks unsafe Tap in en suite did not work to wash hands after using the toilet

Review 28:Position

Review 29:Bit difficult to get to by car even to drop off the bags and then go and park, but parking station is quite close

Review 30:Great location just across from the cathedral Sense of history, lovely view from room, good breakfast

Review 31:Room looked more like pension, or private albergue. I've stayed in 5 star hotels. This doesn't compare. Not even close to The Paradore in Santiago. Restaurant is fair to mediocre. I would not return, there are many other places to stay, much nicer for the money and location and staff.

Review 32:location.

Review 33:No bad experience, but perhaps an improvement in directions. We had walked 100km in 6 days and had to ask several people in Santiago where it was. It was well worth the wait though.

Review 34:Location and the absolute peace I felt upon entering the building. The room was great, breakfast plentiful with lots of choice, staff very helpful. I would recommend this to friends and family and definitely stay here again.

Review 35:The close proximity to the cathedral, the staff, the history and culture of such a wonderful place, I would totally recommend this accommodation to everyone.

Review 36:Some of the staff on reception were not particularly helpful and we were given misleading information about our travel back to the airport

Review 37:It was a wonderful place, in a superb location. It felt like stepping back in time to stay in a converted monastery, so near to the Cathedral.

Review 38:The room is very small and has just basic set of furniture. The furniture and bed are dream of heavy metal rock lover: they are made of pure iron. There are just few wall outlets so you may have troubles charging your devices. There is no air conditioner and no freezer in the room. The shower is tiny and if you have excessive weight you may just not fit there. There is just only small sanitary trash can in the room.

Review 39:The hotel is just near the Cathedral and close to other city attractions. There is good elevator in the hotel.

Review 40:Location excellent, next to Cathedral . Everything else was first class, food was great and very reasonable. I would certainly recommended this Hospederia and will return again next year for sure.

Review 41:We really loved the location and the 16th century building in which the inn was housed. Their 3 course lunches and dinners were excellent value for the price.

Review 42:Absolutely fabulous location.Basic but really clean and comfortable rooms sweet detail that the night porter made us a coffee befor having to catch an early flight.

Review 43:If you are after high speed wi-fi, this is not the location.

Review 44:Basic and simple facilities in a truly magnificent, historic building and superb location. We are very much looking forward to our return in the future.

Review 45:the rooms were very very small. It was quite difficult for 2 people even to open our luggage.

Review 46:This is a very nice hotel, in a fantastic location to visit Santiago.

Review 47:Choice of evening meal available

Review 48:It's position, its simplicity yet comfort,it's quietness even being in the midst of activity. But more it's style and the obvious keeping of tradition in its layout and facilities,all-round perfect place to stay.

Review 49:Nothing significant, but if you want an anonymous chain hotel with TV in your room, go elsewhere.

Review 50:Fascinating building in a perfect location. We loved it.

Review 51:We thought the Hospederia San Martin Pinario exemplified all of the features we like best: very convenient location; modern amenities in a lovely historical setting; ample and tasty meals; very reasonable cost. We especially appreciated the care and good taste that seemed to have gone into every detail of the décor.

Review 52:A bit difficult to locate, specially if you're driving.

Review 53:Basic but comfortable accommodations and friendly staff. Right in the middle of the old town across from the Cathedral. Excellent value.

Review 54:No han habilitado Espacio en la Hospederia teniéndolo para descargar el equipaje por tanto no volveré ha ir.

Review 55:Casi todo menos lo anteriormente expuesto.

Review 56:We were given a disabled toilet for no reason, with a wet room shower and no drains in the bathroom, so the floor was constantly soaked. The breakfast was poor, fruit from a can, etc and the coffee machine was broken. The noise is terrible, we could hear everything in the other rooms. The cleaners start very early and it's incredibly loud.

Review 57:The building is beautiful and the bedroom looked lovely

Review 58:A wonderful place to stay. Atmospheric and historic in a perfect location. Spotlessly clean. Had lunch in the vaulted hall. Lots of places to sit and relax in the peace and quiet. Would definitely stay again.

Review 59:Had to have a twin room but we pushed the beds together so not too much hassle

Review 60:Perfect location. Value for money. Beautiful building and surroundings. Coffee!

Review 61:Ideal central position for a short stay. simple, clean and comfortable room and beds, real value for money and a place of character. (no fridge or air con. if you feel you need these, but walls 4 ft thick and good shutters.)

Review 62:The rooms are not as big as in a four star hotel, but the feeling you have is superb,as if you were in a 5 star very elegant hotel.

Review 63:An old realy impresive monastery turned to a hotel, next to the cathedral, in the heart of the old city.Extremely good taste in decoration.Every thing worked perfect.Bravo.

Review 64:Excellent location opposite the cathedral and close to places of interest, bars and restaurants. Facinating building. Interesting mix of guests. Very friendly.

Review 65:Rooms very small and if you're a large person you could have problems with the tiny shower cubicle. Breakfast room very crowded so we chose to go to the bar. Stale croissants

Review 66:Very interesting building with history.

Review 67:The Hospederia is not for anybody who has any limited mobility. Unfortunately, I would say that is handicap unfriendly. Forget about staying in it if you have any mobility restriction.

Review 68:The most appealing part was its central location. Every single person of the staff at the Hospederia was extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 69:A stunning hotel in a fabulous location. Very simplistic design of rooms and public areas. Restaurant serves a set, simple menu for lunch and dinner - beautifully cooked.

Review 70:It's a convent. Remember that. The rooms are very simple - bed, desk, chair. But it is very modern - great wifi, great bathroom and amazing breakfast. Definitely definitely definitely worth the stay.

Review 71:The location was perfect for our visit to Santiago.step outside and straight accross from cathedral.Lots ofaccess to lovely quiet areas around the monastery to soak up atmosphere of place. Breakfast was lovely buffett. sheets and towels changed daily. helpful and informative staff at reception.

Review 72:I loved everything

Review 73:I love this hotel... The location, the facilities. It's quite a magical place. The rooms are lovely. Breakfast is very good also.

Review 74:All good

Review 75:It is located beside the Cathedral and close to a variety of museums, restaurants and shops. We enjoyed sharing stories of our camino journey with other pilgrims in both the common room and the garden. Staff are friendly and always helpful.

Review 76:The magnificent location of the monastery, and environs of this historical, spiritual centre. I walked a few miles each day, traversing the Camino, in beautiful sunshine, enjoying wonderful culture, customs and food with drink along the way. It was a truly fulfilling and unforgettable experience, visiting as many other churches that were open as possible, of which the art and architecture were breathtaking.

Review 77:The wifi was not always dependable, but I stay here often anyway. It's a wonderful place!

Review 78:Beautiful historic facility, friendly, helpful staff, very clean, great food, close to Cathedral, central to other places of interest in Santiago

Review 79:Breakfast can be very busy and the rooms are not luxurious

Review 80:Its position directly opposite the cathedral and the historic monastery it occupies simply can't be bettered. And the price is incredible value compared with the similar Parador nearby

Review 81:Their breakfast choices lacked gluten free options with the exception of fruit or yogurt Their pilgrims menu had a limited set of options each night but they did manage to give me food options without hliten

Review 82:I stayed two nights The staff was very helpful as I had a medical issue develop They sent me to a private clinic where I got help They also let me use their phone to get a call and where generous with advice maps etc

Review 83:When arrived to the hotel, figured that other pilgrims, are paying a fourth of the price payed online, without even prebooking upfront. Luckily the reception staff was nice enough to make a small discount, however the price remained incomparable. Call the hotel before booking online and check the prices!

Review 84:The rooms are quite small but light and airy and it's possible to have a room overlooking the Cathedral itself. The breakfasts were very ordinary with no variation.

Review 85:The location is excellent directly opposite the Cathedral. The building itself is worth visiting and has a lovely little courtyard garden.

Review 86:Very small shower (but this is common in Spanish hotels). Unreliable Internet

Review 87:Location - Historical monastery across the square from the cathedral Comfort - Comfortable, peaceful environment after completing a long walk on the Camino Hospitality - Friendly, helpful staff - always willing to go the extra mile

Review 88:The beds (twin room) were only a standard single size (not king single) and the frame creaked upon movement.

Review 89:This simple and historical hospedaría in a former seminary provides a central and welcoming place to stay opposite the cathedral of Santiago. The room was very clean, simple, and secure. The breakfast spread was excellent and included in the room price. Optional dinner (3 courses and wine) for only €10 was excellent value. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 90:Nothing negative to say

Review 91:Lovely old building that was modernised in a careful way. Location opposite The Cathedral was fantastic and parking was available close by.

Review 92:Thecwindow in bedroom would not open and it was a hot night.

Review 93:The calm atmosphere and sense of history and the fact that it was opposite the Cathedral. Perfect

Review 94:I can't really say that there was anything I disliked, though the wifi was problematic at times, though this could be related,to the physical building as some wall were 4 or 5 feet thick

Review 95:Great value in a wonderful location very comfortable, breakfast and evening dinner served,in very atmospheric locations

Review 96:The walls between rooms are dry walling and very thin. It would be much appreciated if other occupants could keep that in mind, especially during the late evening hours.

Review 97:The location is perfect and the atmosphere adds to the whole experience of walking and completing the Camino. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, have been excellent value for money and delicious.

Review 98:The mattress and pillows felt like sandbags, and the squeaking and clanking of the metal bed frame with every toss and turn was not music to my ears, especially after so needing a good night's rest following completion of the camino. Felt the double room was better suited to a single traveler. We had 2 backpacks and 2 pieces of luggage, and space was cramped.

Review 99:Loved the cool, stone arched hallways of this former monastery. Although small, the rooms were clean and accommodating. Free WiFI, and breakfast was tasty and ample. Excellent location near the cathedral.

Review 100:The word reception involves 'receiving' your guests, hopefully with some warmth. Apart from one young woman on the reception desk, I experienced the reception staff as cold, rejecting and unfriendly, as if they hated being disturbed from staring at their computer screens. Smiles were totally absent.

Review 101:Great location, nice room with the sun streaming onto a little desk. Reminiscent of its monasterial past.

Review 102:We had booked 2 nights here but the first night was changed - but alls well that ends well - we were given a very good alternative hotel for the first night and returned here for our final night in Santiago.

Review 103:The ambience , the sense of history , and sense of continuity. All the staff were friendly , helpful and efficient. The rooms were well appointed and very clean .

Review 104:No tea and coffee and kettle in the room for convenient at night or morning tea in the room. Breakfast is just average standard

Review 105:Nice friendly staffs. Free wifi. Nice location Clean room but not really a luxry hotel even i describe "Luxry" in question 4:-)

Review 106:Staff is neutral. Some more friendly than others. Don't expect to be properly welcomed. Not rude, but you are not special to them. A crying shame as the property and location are excellent. If the reception area could cheer up, it would be the best place to stay in SdC. I would still return but I wouldn't be expecting great service.

Review 107:I loved this property! Amazing, spectacular location. Simple room but clean and all you need.

Review 108:The atmosphere and history of this old building and the beautiful simple rooms. Lovely helpful staff and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The Cathedral is a few steps away in this old part of Santiago. Would have liked to stay here longer.

Review 109:Great place to end one's pilgrimage in this spectacular building in the heart of Santiago. Public rooms are dramatic and the bedrooms are very clean and comfortable if plain. Breakfast was great quality at a very reasonable price of €5

Review 110:Car park was a significant distance from hotel reception & up steps steep slope etc. Not suitable for moderately disabled person - this is not pointed out in the hotels guidance.

Review 111:Location is ideal for cathedral & town centre dining etc.

Review 112:Staff were helpful. Beautifully renovated monestary; a pleasure to walk through the hallways built centuries ago. Economical, tasty dinner served; breakfast was also good and filling. Room was basic with modern bathroom. I would definitely stay there again.

Review 113:Beautiful building, perfect location, very comfortable and excellent value. It was my third visit to Santiago and my second time to stay in the Hospederia. It's unusual to find such well located and well appointed accommodation to be so reasonably priced in a busy tourist location.

Review 114:Only very small room, but that's not a problem for a one night stay. Staying for a week I'd probably choose something else.

Review 115:Situated next to the Cathedral. Very friendly. Very clean.

Review 116:Booked 3 rooms six months before. arrived and told problem with rooms. walked up hill to other hotel. rooms there not twin. half party return to first hotel where problem miraculously fixed (well it is Santiago) no explaination or apology made. spent stay as two parties, not impressed

Review 117:Splendid looking.

Review 118:The staff smile and are interested in you. All the meals are wholesome and the waiting staff helpful and attentive. There is a feeling of goodness in the air.

Review 119:The wifi could have been slightly better, and don't expect too much of the food. More or less a Pilgrims menu.

Review 120:As close to the beautiful Cathedral as you could get! Made getting to the 12pm Pilgrims mass a doddle. Interesting interior of building which didn't forget its history and kept some lovely relics of the monastery. Great rooms, and lovely staff. Great Cafe too.

Review 121:Quite naturally car parking is a bit of a nightmare but hey, get over it!

Review 122:Santiago is a very special city with some of the best Tapas and atmosphere experienced anywhere.

Review 123:All good, no complaints.

Review 124:Fabulous location, directly opposite the cathedral. This is not a luxury chain hotel, but if you are looking for a unique experience, this is for you! Beautiful historical building. We do not know about parking as used taxi to enter pedestrianized historical centre. Rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable.

Review 125:The beds were hard and squeaked every time we moved which did not make for a good nights sleep. Wifi only in public areas.

Review 126:Beautifully converted monastery offering excellent basic accommodation. Rooms are tastefully decorated and contemporary. Perfect for Camino.
