Reviews for Gerdi Guesthouse

Review 1:Too expensive for guesthouse, nothing special, except the location. Too simple furnishing, it smells very bad in the main building.

Review 2:Good location, nice kitchen, big rooms.

Review 3:The room is quite cold even with the heater on. Also the price is not that pretty.

Review 4:The shared kitchen is quite big and nice with a area people can play cards and drink a cup of cafe

Review 5:Small amount of water for shower.

Review 6:Clean rooms, nice staffs, not bad food (dinner and breakfast), though actually we did not have too many choices near this area. However it's a comfortable guesthouse at the right location after our glacier hiking tour in the afternoon.

Review 7:Breakfast was expensive and only average. No bath mat supplied and paper towels from a dispenser in the room's bathroom made it feel very utilitarian.

Review 8:Very basic but clean room. Not much charm but functional. Communal kitchen area which we didn't use but could prove to be very practical. Felt a little like a hostel with private rooms.

Review 9:The breakfast was basic but adequate

Review 10:Dont expect a top notch hotel as the Gerdi has more of a hostel feel, however it is very clean and comfortable and the staff couldnt be more helpful. The food was very nice and a very quiet location, and close to the Iceberg lagoon.

Review 11:This guesthouse was the most expensive one for the worst quality we experienced in a 7 days trip in Iceland. The rooms are very basic with uncomfortable bathroom. Furniture looks old and is unpleasant. The level of services definitely doesn't worth the price we paid. Staff was not really kind (not even a smile). Breakfast in line with the room: fresh fruits not really fresh, limited choice.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:We had earlier requested for a room facing the lake, but when we arrived they did not have any room directly facing the lake. So, we had to lean out of our window to be able to see the lake from our room. Besides this, the room was not very well lit and there was no shampoo or soap in the bathroom. Luckily, we had our own toiletries! Also there were not sufficient lighting fixtures in the room. As a result, it was quite dark through the day and night in the room.

Review 14:We arrived at this guesthouse late in the evening at 7 pm-ish and they had no qualms about allowing us to do a late check-in. Thankfully, they had dinner available (and even a vegetarian option for me), since it was impossible to go out in the rainy, wet and cold weather. Our room was in a house/guesthouse adjacent to the main house. The guesthouse is at the edge of a huge lake and would afford good views of the northern lights on clear nights. Breakfast was good and sufficient. We did not know this earlier, but there is a kitchen area in the common lounge area, with basic salt, sugar, etc. supplies and some utensils too, if you want to cook your own food.

Review 15:Very noisy place - too many students shouting all the time, cooking in the kitchen all night long, seating with their laptops at the hall. That's why the kitcher is always dirty, smelly and full of people - the smell and noise goes straight to the rooms.

Review 16:Close to glacier lagoon Jokulsarlon - we visited it both in the afternoon and in the morning next day. That's also the reason for overpricing I guess. Hot beverages available in the main building free of charge. Spacious rooms, enough parking places.

Review 17:Body soap and shampoo not provided, food options in area are limited (we ate in Hofn), breakfast selection very sparse and over-priced for what was served. Be aware that nearest gas station is 45 min. away.

Review 18:Very close to Glacier lagoon, large and recently refurbished bathroom with rain shower, beautiful surroundings

Review 19:This a hotel, not a guest house.

Review 20:It was comfortable, but not what was expected. The little cottages in the pictures are not the rooms on offer. The nearby restaurant at the Museum is very nice.

Review 21:only beds and tv in the room, but no electric kettle, you have to go to the kitchen, which is a bit far outside the main building

Review 22:location, 10kms from glacier lagoon

Review 23:Booked a sea-view room, but was given one facing the parking lot. When we brought this up at the front desk, they offered us a much smaller room with a limited sea view in the main lodge. This is the second lodging in Iceland where we booked a room based on the lodging description, but was not given what we had booked.

Review 24:unfortunately this accommodation has no charm. rooms are very dark with tiny windows and not nicely furnished. only one big bath towel for each person (for hands and face paper tissues are provided). everything looks a bit old and worn out, breakfast / dining area looks also not very inviting either. management lacks a bit of professionalism.

Review 25:the location is to close proximity to the Jokulsarlon lagoon (approx. 10mins drive).

Review 26:We actually booked a quadruple room but when we arrived we asked if we could pay the difference and get 2 separate rooms instead and the lady at the reception was glad to do it. We had a cottage, both rooms side by side, which was sea facing. Beds were comfortable. The food was good too. The hotel is just 10 mins drive to Jökulsárlón so if you choose to visit this place, I would recommend this hotel.

Review 27:Front door to the cabin did not lock properly and had a large window without a curtain, which was a problem as it is between the bedroom and bathroom. Front door and door to the bedroom did not open fully as the bottom edge of the door would get stuck on the flooring and scratch the floor. Small window at eye level in the bathroom had no covering or frosting, which meant someone standing outside could see inside, not much privacy!

Review 28:Pretty new cabin, great shower, good sized room. Kitchen was well-equipped. Close to the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.

Review 29:Plugs in room not convenient, noisy/inconsiderate guests who were not challenged on their behaviour, shower leaked and temperature hard to control, no water pressure. One tiny towel. Just not great.

Review 30:Location excellent, cleanliness - the bathroom and bedroom were spotless.

Review 31:We booked a room with a bath, however this type of room doesn't exist at the property according to the reception. So we had a room with a shower instead, which was somewhat disappointing of course.

Review 32:Very convenient location close to the ring road, friendly staff and good room.

Review 33:I had dinner at the guesthouse, it was alright but definitely overprised.

Review 34:Good located not far away from the Jökulsarlon lagoon, nice view to the mountains.

Review 35:The price of the wine! Also, the fire alarm went off around 11pm and there were no staff around, just us guests in pyjamas wondering what to do! Thankfully it went off after about 5 minutes.

Review 36:Amazing location with views over the ocean, mountains and glaciers. Small-ish but functional rooms. They could accommodate us when we arrived without our travel cot. Helpful and friendly reception and breakfast staff and comfortable beds.

Review 37:The cabin was very loud and none of the doors could close properly. Cabin seemed quickly and cheap made.

Review 38:Close to Jökulsarlon Has it's own restaurant

Review 39:They have a known, and ongoing problem with the fire alarm system, which went off 3x when I stayed there. They also kept the restaurant open 2 hours after closing time and unfortunately, the hotel rooms are all under the restaurant. And it was LOUD. Staff didn't appear to care about the noise. Fix the alarm system, close the restaurant at a decent time (or get better insulation) and it would be a 10. I'm afraid that the system issues with the alarm system might be a SAFETY concern.

Review 40:Beautiful hotel in a gorgeous setting

Review 41:We stayed in the newer building which while nice, needs better soundproofing as their was a group of folks in the common room who were loud until late at night. In addition hooks in the bathroom to hang up wet towels need to be installed!!!

Review 42:Great location for travelling around Iceland's Ring Road. Room was comfortable and breakfast was good.

Review 43:10 square meters for 4 beds. Nowhere to leave baggages. No shampoo, bathfoam, hairdryer. Micro washbasin. Impossible to use. No breakfast included in €175 room rate.

Review 44:Nothing. I lived in a nightmare.

Review 45:The free WiFi always disconnected and was really slow. They also only had one television channel available.

Review 46:They have really good wine at their restaurant and the location was close to a major attraction (about a 10 minute drive away). I like that the check out time was 11 a.m.

Review 47:The common room was occupied by cooking people and the whole building including our room was smelling the whole night extremly of food

Review 48:Modern rooms with tv and internet

Review 49:- Limited dining options in the area. We ate at the Museum Restaurant up the road - tasty but basic food and interiors - In general you are paying for the proximity to the lagoon, so not the best value for money in Hali

Review 50:- Less than 10 minutes drive from Jokulsarlon - Annex building appears to be newer - Basic no-frills decor but clean comfortable beds - Pretty setting with mountain behind and sea in the distance

Review 51:The room was very small and wi-fi was bad.

Review 52:That guesthouse has a very good location near the ocean on one side and mountains on another. In addition it's only about 10 minutes driving from this place to Glacier Lagoon.

Review 53:The location is beautiful like most places in Iceland. This one sits at the edge of Vatnajokull glacier next to a coastal lagoon. Take a short walk around the village to appreciate the stillness. This was by far the fanciest accommodation we stayed in during our stay.

Review 54:Nothing! The weather is the only issue here.

Review 55:This place is a 12 out of 10! Uxi is the most amazing host and keeps a great little 5bdr house as a bread and breakfast. He goes out of his way to help out, made an amazing breakfast as well as late afternoon welcome treat. This is the place to stay in Hella!

Review 56:Very (very) large rooms could easily place four beds. But more than 3 were not available. Dinner quality is soso lala.

Review 57:Excellent position of the hotel and pleasant overall facility. Also nice for campers.

Review 58:1. There is no any opportunity to dry clothes in the room nor in the building that is absolutely not convenient. All of the hotels we stayed in had heating but not this one. 2. In the kitchen and dining room there is storage of old furniture and other used staff.

Review 59:Good location, close to the entrance to Vatnajokull national park and the Blue Lagoon. Comfortable beds and spacious room. Well equipped kitchen.

Review 60:I think I'll give this guesthouse for 7 points. Price is very reasonable, but breakfast selection is poor. Walk to near by hotel for the same price of breakfast for more varied of food.

Review 63:The comon room for people cooking for themselves could be a bit tidier (without spare chair piles etc.)

Review 64:Good breakfast. Nice view! Very friendly and engaged staff.

Review 65:Pricy, but everything in south Iceland is during the summer, and this place was worth it.

Review 66:Very large, comfortable room with a large bathroom. Also a nice common area/kitchen for guests to share. Staff were very friendly. Had lamb for dinner, which was delicious. Minutes away from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

Review 67:No wifi in the room Small room The smell of cow dung in the air The steep ramp to our room such that dared not drive closer

Review 68:location - very near to jukulsarlon lagoon

Review 69:- Very small room, no wardrobe (we had the room with bunk bed) - Quite expensive for so small room

Review 70:- The guesthouse is very nice and the atmosphere is warm there, like at home - Clean room and shared facilities as well - Fair breakfast

Review 71:One request to the owners ... please get black or dark blinds that completely block the windows. Visitors are not used to sleeping in daylight. The rooms are not dark enough for the summer time with the blinds you have. That is my only critique.

Review 72:The rooms are so new we could still smell that new construction smell. They are a great size for two people with very large suitcases and lots of smaller bags. The service was excellent and the views of the ocean and mountains stunning.

Review 73:Smaller than I expected and restaurant was very expensive. Key didn't work and no staff member could fix it. Not nice to know the door was open so had to carry all valuables with us.

Review 74:comfy bed

Review 75:The food was foul.. i wouldn't give it to my dog!! A set menu with no choice except if you wanted chicken or lamb, but with the same salad (if that's what you want to call it) and black potatoes! all for the great price of £70 for 2!! Room was horrible! paper towels like you would find in a public toilet instead of a hand towel, one towel each, not even a bath mat, door wouldn't open because the floor was so uneven, poor wifi, curtains were as thin as paper (not good when the sun only sets for 3 hours)!! all in in a horrible time, and unbelievably over priced!!

Review 76:Pretty Location

Review 77:There was no refridgerator in the hut and no curtains in the door window, so when you went to toilet or shower, there was a straight view to the hut from outside.

Review 78:Beautiful location of this place, you can see sea on the other side and great black mountain on the other!

Review 79:Like most often is the case in Iceland, it was much more expensive than comparable quality elsewhere.

Review 80:It provided the basic necessities -- clean rooms, warm beds, and breakfast.

Review 81:one towel per person with no hand towels, toilet didn't work properly, staff meetings in the dining area, staff not knowledgable about nearby state park

Review 82:Beautiful location, friendly staff, accommodations for a family of 4.

Review 83:The hotel has no window cover. It is super expensive. But it is simply a tiny cabin cut in two to maximize the owner's profit. It is the most expensive place we stayed during a 3 weeks trip and the worst and smallest.

Review 84:-Grounds are not well taken care of, scrap metal and wood is just laying around -Kitchen does not have sufficient equipment to cook much of anything

Review 85:-Cabins are nice big and clean -Location is close to glacier lagoon -Plenty of parking on site

Review 86:Could use a little maintenance as some things in the common area were broken(chairs, tables) and one of our wall lights was falling off. No big deal though.

Review 87:Quiet, nice curtains for 24/7 sun. Clean. Beautiful surroundings.

Review 88:The breakfast was pretty meager, and the staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of diners, struggling to replenish mugs and plates and food. The wi-fi also frequently cut in and out (the only time we experienced this in Iceland).

Review 89:The guesthouse had a beautiful location, the room was cozy, and the staff were helpful.

Review 90:nothing

Review 91:Location there is a lot to see around Vik. Food was prepared fresh and excellent. Accommodation clean and very well maintained. Service the service was very jolly and seemed really pleased to see you.

Review 92:Don't bother paying for a sea-view room, you won't get it and when complaining to the manager about being put in an annex looking at another building you will not be given a discount for the extra you paid for the sea-view. Disappointed with room, dirty windows, paper towels in the bathroom, no bathmat, no hairdryer in room. Went for dinner and landed up with lukewarm soup which went back but the dinner was okay, but nothing special for the price. Not a very organised place at all. Breakfast was okay. Out of all the places we stayed, this was the only one that let us down. The beach looks lovely on the photograph, but unfortunately it is 10 minutes away and not the view you would expect to see. We would not recommend this and certainly would not stay here again.

Review 93:Free Wifi

Review 94:The coffee at breakfast was weak. We ordered a room with a bath, but the one we got only had a shower (part of which was broken).

Review 95:Good location, large rooms. Breakfast was OK.

Review 96:The staff didn't know much about the area. Seems like some staff only work in the summer and fly in from other places so will not know what's going on locally.

Review 97:The location and scenery is beautiful

Review 98:I wish they would clean up the construction debris. It would take a few hours to move the steel rebar and construction lumber out of sight! It would help the view!

Review 99:We enjoyed a large room with a good view of a bay. The new building has a lovely lounge/kitchen.

Review 100:Only downside was the breakfast which is quite expensive for not a great spread.

Review 101:Great value for money, the guesthouse is in a beautiful location and not far from Jokulsarlon. The dinner was really good, highly recommend.

Review 102:The front of the hotel is under construction. I assume that will be finished shortly to make the overall facility better.

Review 103:We stayed in the big lodge. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was well equipped, even had a hair dryer. The shower was good. Breakfast was quite good, with homemade bread, homemade jam, waffles and much more.

Review 104:*We booked two quadruple Rooms, and it turned out that we were offer a small hut for 8 people. Based on website pictures we assumed that we will be based in a guest house... *A room for 4 people was really cramped, a bank bed was a bit badly constructed (we can attach some picture if you wish so...), so people were afraid of sleeping at the top of bank bed. *A bathroom was quite a small too. *We used a common room next to our hut, it was fine, but a bit messy and unclean. We spent there two days and I think nobody apart of from us and other people sleeping there, did a cleaning up in there. *We did not have a fridge at out hut, so we wanted to use a one at common room, but that one was sooo stinky (we thought someone kept there a shark or other type of ammonia-like fish for too long in there), so we decided to keep our food in cars (it was around zero, when we stayed there). *wi-fi was accessible, but breaking every few minutes

Review 105:*Views (sea, iceberg, mountains - it will be all around you) *Museum Restaurant nearby Gerdi - excellent food, and interesting museum *Really nice reception desk guy who was doing our check in and informed us about strike in South Iceland ((the rest of staff did not seem to be hospitable though (tend to not to answer for our questions...)) *common room in building next to our hut

Review 106:This is the best place if you want to spend a couple of day in the Jokulsarlon area. Staff is kind, food is very good and the place is clean and new with an amazing dining room with a great view right on the sea

Review 107:No

Review 108:굿

Review 109:Room not so warm in the night

Review 110:Close to hali country hotel , which is main meeting point for several ice cave tours , clean, outstanding breakfast .

Review 111:Wifi didn't work. Cold and loud rooms.

Review 112:Location and cleanliness.

Review 113:kitchen equipment is limited staffs cannot provide even a map

Review 114:easy access to Vetnajokull area clean room

Review 115:Relaxed, peaceful environment in a beautiful setting.

Review 116:No soap provided, only 1 towel (no floor towel), can be a bit noisy.

Review 117:Location, friendly staff

Review 118:Room was close to a comun area quite noisy. Room to basic for the price.

Review 119:There is a nice restaurant in the area, Museum restaurant.

Review 120:Is near the jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.

Review 121:fire alarm in middle of night

Review 122:great breakfast selection

Review 123:everything

Review 124:good location next to bay and cliff. staff was very accommodating and was quick attend to our needs.

Review 125:Can provide kettle for hot water

Review 126:Basically a hostel near the tourist attraction. But clean and functional

Review 127:Room very spartan, one flat pillow

Review 128:Location, breakfast,

Review 129:The furnishing of the kitchen is poor.

Review 130:The location and the view are stunning and the rooms are nice.

Review 131:nice location close to Jökulsárlón, comfortable and big rooms, nice bathroom

Review 132:Nice staff, clean, perfect to see northern lights

Review 133:Food was expensive!

Review 134:The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 135:Little warm in room.

Review 136:Great location to airport and also gas station and food. Need a car Good breakfast

Review 137:Handling guests; servvalueice vs

Review 138:Location okay.
