Reviews for Parador de Mérida
Review 1:Extra bed was not comfortable.
Review 2:Location is great. Staff was really nice. Breakfast was perfect. Rooms are big with a lot of space and storage. Lovely historic building! For the parents of small children: there's an good Italian restaurant Sapori d'Italia (on the mais road that goes to the Museum and other attractions), the have children menu and a playroom for the little ones (yep, Mom and Dad could have a beer and enjoy some adult conversation!)
Review 3:It was a bit noisy when our neighbors starting waking up and preparing for the day. Not serious but it is the only slightly off thing I can think of saying.
Review 4:Besides the great location it was charming and cozy. The staff was very helpful.
Review 5:For 75% of our stay there was no wifi and the desk didn't do anything about it. Also, our room was too warm.
Review 6:Located in a 17th century monastery. Good location.
Review 7:On the first stay, my dinner order was mixed up but eventually rectified. On the second stay, a delivery driver tried to reverse straight into us as we attempted to negotiate the tight S-turn out of the parking garage - not happy about that experience!
Review 8:Close to main Roman historical sites. Good aircon. Good breakfast selection.
Review 9:The parking was 16 euros a day. The bathroom was in need of refurbishment with dirty grouting and the towels were old and scratchy.
Review 10:Location very good, beautiful old building nicely converted with very comfortable bed.
Review 11:Expensive dining room prices, noisy locals running around the hotel over the weekend... best to stay weekdays only.
Review 12:Good location, easy to find and secure underground parking. The room was spacious and the Wifi speed was excellent. Should avoid Fri/Sat night stay as hotel is popular with Spanish and we had to change rooms due to noisy children running riot in the next room. Overall, staff were very helpful, the breakfast was good & ample. Easy to walk into town, lots of restaurants & bars. A modern Parador.
Review 13:Crisps and olives at the dinner table were a disappointing addition....we had already been served these in the bar, they had no place at the table. It 'cheapened' the experience. Having said that the meal we had was excellent, as was the service.
Review 14:Difficulty maneuvering to garage. Very limited parking outside. Extremely noisy large party with music till well past midnight outside our 2nd story window.
Review 15:Excellent breakfast buffet & dinner menu but could definitely do without the Frank Sinatra music!
Review 16:Bar service was slow and disorganised in the evening. We were also slightly overcharged, but this was corrected once I pointed this out.
Review 17:Superb central location with easy walking to main attractions and monuments. Large, comfortable, traditional parador.
Review 18:The staff seemed not to be very interested in his client. No attention to details as cleaning dirty tablea in the patio or outside area, cleaning ashtrais, putting rmpty glasses away, etc etc etc. Quiet poor for what should be a leading Hotel
Review 19:Noisy until 2am; appalling breakfast service; shortage of staff in all quarters and never given an apology though regularly standards were well below average
Review 20:One helpful attendant on arrival
Review 21:Breakfast disorganized, coffee machine too small for crowd.
Review 22:Location. All of the historic sites within few minutes walk! Historic building, spacious room.
Review 23:Parking on site a bit expensive at 16Euro but I appreciate the convenience of central city location
Review 24:Ideal central location for exploring. Roman antiquities and shopping sites a short walk. Typical Parador high quality. Nice bar courtyard
Review 25:Breakfast was included but the staff didn't tell us this. We therefore missed breakfast for 3 mornings. Nobody cared at check out when we discovered this.
Review 26:Lovely pool and good location.
Review 27:Bedroom a bit old fashioned...could do with an update. But forgivable given the age and charm of the building. One of the pricier Paradors I've stayed in but it was August. Restaurant very quiet for a Saturday evening which was a shame as the food was excellent and good value we thought.
Review 28:The wonderful building and its location. Excellent food in restaurant and good value for money on the set price menu
Review 29:3 weeks, 4 countries, 12 different places to stay, and this was by far the best place! Merida is amazing and this is the perfect place to stay. You can explore the town from your doorstep or relax in the pool & restaurant.
Review 30:Small children were allowed to run wild, no action from parents or staff. Quite distressing for a number of older guests who were clearly wanting some peace and quiet.
Review 31:Ex convent.
Review 32:Expensive breakfast, one grumpy server while others were OK, expensive parking. Difficult to find.
Review 33:Good location, covered parking, good and affordable dinner. Great price through Booking.com.
Review 34:The central courtyard area is just a little slice of paradise in the middle of the city, just wonderful to relax in. The hotel itself is right in the centre, you can pretty much walk everywhere in 10 minutes.
Review 35:A beautiful, sensitively converted former convent with large airy rooms and plenty of shaded areas to sit. Good underground garage. Convenient for all the major sites in Merida.
Review 36:there was not much left on the buffet breakfast, and it was at 8.30 am.!!!
Review 37:The location of the Parador, beautiful building, very friendly front desk staff.
Review 38:The hotel seemed to be understaffed particularly in the dining and breakfast rooms.
Review 39:As with all Paradores the standard was good regarding cleanliness etc.
Review 40:Apart from the location which is so close to main sites of interest and the restaurants, the historic building and the wonderful services provided were excellent. I would have loved to stay longer.
Review 41:The bathroom was a bit shabby. It looked as though there had been an attempt to repaint the bath itself but this had been unsuccessful. The flush on the lavatory did not work properly. Breakfast was satisfactory but overpriced.
Review 42:Excellent location, convenient for all historical sites. Building was pleasantly restored, spacious and quiet.
Review 43:The reception staff were disengaged with their clients. No welcome on arrival. Made to feel unwelcome when stared at by reception staff every time we came in and out of the hotel. The bathroom had a bad leak when the shower was used.
Review 44:We loved the old building and the garden
Review 45:Can't fault the Parador Merida. Excellent service from a most obliging staff. A comfortable room in a relaxing setting. Great time had by all in the Roman themed weekend with a stupendous - and well researched - period feast, as well as an opportunity for dressing-up! Hope such themed weekends are a regular feature as the attention to detail was really rather good. Many thanks.
Review 46:Tortuous layout with only one lift to the upper floor involved a long and inconvenient walk along each of the two floors. Some of the fixtures and fittings could be modernised.
Review 47:Helpful staff including one member who provided an informative tour explaining the history of the Parador. It is full of character reflecting its history as a convent hospital in centuries gone by. Lovely big bed in a spacious room. Good selection at breakfast.
Review 48:Excellent location and beautiful building with lots of history. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay in this particular parador
Review 49:Except for the canarian islands, spains simply don't understand that people from northen Europe wants to use sun beds (and swimming pool) - even in March, if the weather permits. (The canarians probably don't understand it either, but they fascilitate it anyway :-))
Review 50:Mérida is really a nice city. The parador is cozy and with lots of atmosphere. The wifi is probably the best I have ever experiensed in any hotel!
Review 51:Even the thick walls of the converted convent did not contain the noise of an energetic and amorous couple in an adjacent room waking us in the early hours.
Review 52:Very hard to drive into. 16 euros to park. Typical state employee staff. No information offered and in the main surly. To find reception from the underground car park is an adventure. Breakfast ok but as always avoid Parador restaurants.
Review 53:Nice building in a central location. Secure parking.
Review 54:There was mould around the bath and shower taps, and the lower hinge of the shower screen. Grout missing from wall and floor tiles. The bath looked old.
Review 55:The ambience of the hotel.
Review 56:The hotel room was very run down, desperately needs maintenance. Staff were impersonal. A very large hotel with probably not enough staff. 2 star quality only.
Review 57:Location
Review 58:nothing
Review 59:we only stayed overnight as we were travelling on to Portugal but were very impressed with what we saw & will definitely go back to Merida & will stay at the Parador as it was well placewd to visit sites & a lovel building to stay in.
Review 60:not a particularly cheerful staff.
Review 61:Central to the plaza meyor. Within walking distance to the Roman ruins. Private parking in a very congested part of the city.
Review 62:Price of car parking Breakfast was not to the standard we have received elsewhere in Paradors. Not easy to navigate the hotel and signage not always clear. Beds hard.
Review 63:Nice old building. In the heart of the town.
Review 64:Our stay was to short
Review 65:My wife and myself love to tour in our car and paradors are our great find, we base our tours on there locations and when we arrived at the one in merida it took our breath away, what a magnificent building and facilities to match. we cannot find any fault with this parador and we will be returning
Review 66:Breakfast is expensive so didn't eat here.
Review 67:Comfortable size room and good beds. Bathroom was also a fine size. Doors open into back courtyard and its very quiet at night (we did close the doors). There is parking and its easy and a below ground garage.
Review 68:Great location in the city. Within walking distance to all historic sites. Although the room was a bit small, did manage to get good sleep. While the restaurant and bar are very pleasant demonstrating the old world charm. Had a good stay.
Review 69:Our room was very noisy and looked out on to a building being refurbished. We had a very poor nights sleep and it was the worst room we have ever had when staying in a Paradore. We have stayed in many Paradores over the years and this was not good enough.
Review 70:Location and the public areas. Close to the Wonderful museum and and the staff were very pleasant.
Review 71:unable to get anything to eat between 6pm and 8.30 pm. snacks sandwiches etc. we don't eat parador 3 course meals in any parador
Review 72:comfortable rooms. historic building. in the old town
Review 73:Bedroom location, if you stay ask for room overlooking courtyard, ours overlooked road - very noisy. Also we asked for a large double, which we got, but not a 3rd single which we also got, it should have been removed.
Review 74:Nicely preserved and restored with large clean rooms, Evening meal and breakfast ok but not spectacular.
Review 75:Although there are some signs to the Parador in the town, it would be helpful to make clear to visitors that the only access to the hotel by car is through the security locked back gate. This is in fact signed Parador Parking, but the natural assumption is that it would be possible to park at the front of the hotel when checking in.
Review 76:The hotel was an oasis of calm surrounded by busy streets. Staff were vey helpful , unlike some Paradores in my experience. The small garden and pool were charming and our room and bathroom were spacious and cool.
Review 77:Vast, empty. Like sleepy hollow. We felt we were keeping the bar staff up past their bedtime at 11pm. So not typical of most Spanish bars or hotels
Review 78:The parador is vast and empty, so not great for folks who require fun. That said. Merida has more Roman remains than anywhere in Spain, so it's worth a day's visit.
Review 79:Given the price of the room, to charge another 16€ for parking seemed excessive. The pool is very small and as it was a very hot day, it wasn't possible to avoid noisy an splashing kids.
Review 80:The usual comfort and the traditional Parador room. Friendly and professional reception staff. A nice place in the centre of town for a one-night stopover.
Review 81:The rooms....they need a complete upgrade and reno.
Review 82:Everything, the staff make you feel at home from the moment yo step into the hotel. Excellent food, amazing location, fabulous historic building as a hotel....
Review 83:Credit card for safety deposit box Small swimming pool and limited number of chaise lounge €12 for Hendricks gin tonic
Review 84:Location superb Good breakfast Staff very professional and attentive
Review 85:The room was rather ugly, I had to ask for a copuple of glasses because there weren't any before and the sink was mired. Up in the ceiling we could see a hole, because something in the light bulb was missing, too many bad thing for a 4 stars hotel. Low value for the money.
Review 86:I really liked the location, the gardens, all the terraces and the surrounding of the hotel.
Review 87:Too expensive for what it is. Rooms are not comfortable and not kept up well. The staff provides exactly the information you inquire about, and not an iota more. We asked about tours of the roman ruins on entry, noone volunteered that they no longer offer the free tour on Sundays (as advertised). Noone volunteered that everything closes very early on Sundays. The day bed for my 6' son was a dolls bed, not only small but rickety and uncomfortable. But we certainly paid top dollar for it. :-(
Review 88:The idea of the paradores is perhaps misleading...expectations too high. This could be a very nice hotel. Definitely offers services.
Review 89:Very well located, close to the old town atractions. The parador have their own parking, lucky as parking is otherwise a problem in Merida. Park and forgwt your car during the stay. Very beautifull hotel and atmosfere in this old monastry. Excellent service alround.
