Reviews for San Francisco Hotel Monumento

Review 1:Tranquil atmosphere.Harmonious architecture, blending old with new .Pleasant back ground music.Wholesome food. Swimming Pool.A stroll away from Cathedral plaza.

Review 2:Can't control your own air conditioner - it was far too warm in the room, despite asking reception to turn it down it didn't really work, bed was so uncomfortable.

Review 3:Stunning building, friendly staff, delicious breakfast

Review 4:Nothing

Review 5:We had a wonderful experience. The ambiance is charming and the staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The location in the old city was just perfect.

Review 6:Unbelievably beautiful hotel that is steps away from the Cathedral. Rooms are massive and extremely comfortable. The staff offers excellent service, food was great and it was the highlight of my Camino experience! Loved every second of my stay here and came back to spend some extra nights after going to Finnisterre just to extend the experience.

Review 7:I have stayed here before and the hotel staff are wonderfully helpful and friendly. It really feels like your welcome to stay for as long as you want. Service is unhurried and not stuffy which is so often the case with grand hotels.

Review 8:All good but it would have been nice to have a patio area to sit out and have a coffee on a nice day.

Review 9:Extremely comfortable and right in the middle of the city

Review 10:The location perfect, rooms perfect, beautiful lounge areas outside room, breakfast very good especially for someone gluten free. Staff very attentive and helpful.

Review 11:Lack of access/scope to English speaking entertainment on TV

Review 12:best orientation to hotel, services and the environment of all twelve hotels we stayed in along the Camino

Review 13:Nothing - I liked absolutely everything about this place.

Review 14:The hotel had been very sympathetically converted from its ecclesiastical roots and provided a beautifully serene oasis if calm in the heart of Santiago. In spite of being located only a minute or two from the main cathedral square the hotel was quiet, restful and peaceful place to stay. In addition to being extremely efficient the staff were always courteous and helpful - I would rate them among the best I have encountered anywhere. The hotel pool was a blessing and provided a pleasant way to spend some time after the hustle and bustle of a day of touristic activities. Similarly, the hotel has several spacious lounges where guests can spend quiet time. All in all a beautiful place and one I would return to without any hesitation.

Review 15:Very helpful staff . Nice swimming pool and beautiful spacious room wiith free upgrade. Breakfast buffet ver good if rather expensive. Fantastic central location with free parking.

Review 16:I had an injury when I arrived and the staff was so helpful. They went out of their way to accommodate my needs, made phone calls, and checked on train schedules. I just hope I can return one day injury free.

Review 17:We didn't stay long enough

Review 18:I cannot recommend this hotel enough- its location , its staff , it's comfort - everything about it was top class - not my first or last visit to Santiago but woukd be hard pushed to stay elsewhere after staying here - excellent in every way

Review 19:Staff very helpful and friendly and hotel in great location. Comfortable bedding and lovely breakfast. Also appreciated that they have service to clean cloths.

Review 20:For the price paid we would expect complementary mineral water in the room. Locker in swimming pool area requires a deposit for the key. Not something I would expect from a four star hotel. Whirlpool needs to be repaired.

Review 21:Close proximity to the city centre.

Review 22:layout is confusing and a little art here and there might break up the austere nature of rooms and public areas.

Review 23:Close to pedestrianised central Santiago, half of a monastery is converted into this modern hotel - the other half still has monks in it. Swimming pool, good breakfasts.

Review 24:Nil

Review 25:Location , unique history and architecture of the hotel , room was good size, comfortable bed and bathroom amenities of high standard . Staff courteous and prompt , an excellent hotel

Review 26:nothing

Review 27:one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in part of a Franciscan convent retaining is character much thought gone into to transforming into the hotel part staff spoke good English and went out of there way to help you doing the small things well good size bedrooms cleaned daily bathroom was more like a wet room paid extra for breakfast but well worth as it set us up for the day definitely would stay again

Review 28:The bed and pillows were truely terrible. I hardly slept a wink during the two nights I stayed there. A real shame that such a nice hotel got it so wrong. Despite all its plus points, I would not stay there again or recommend it.

Review 29:Beautiful building, really well restored and excellent location.

Review 30:Everything was great. The bathroom could maybe benefit from a ventilating fan, and a door that opens the opposite way rather than into the toilet (bangs up against the toilet bowl, a little awkward). But really, these are minor considerations.

Review 31:The breakfast buffet was freaking amazing. The staff were super friendly and courteous. The rooms and facilities were classy and comfortable, maybe even better than the overly pretentious parador around the corner.

Review 32:Tea & coffee facilities in the room would have been nice. Apart from breakfast which was fabulous with scrambled egg, bacon, fresh fruit juice etc, the table d'hote food in the main restaurant was "mediocre". I would have expected better quality. The 'stuffed meat' was stuffed full of all sorts of grisle and pipework. Perhaps it had heart in it - not to my taste anyway.

Review 33:Location was brilliant. Just a couple of minutes walk away from the Cathedral. Front desk staff were very helpful and polite (though not particularly warm). Room was lovely and comfortable as was the bed. Secure parking around the back of the hotel - great for motorcycles, though regretably not covered parking.

Review 34:The room was a little cold with no way to alter the temperature.

Review 35:The location was excellent only five minutes walk from the Cathedral. The hotel restaurant was in a great location but the menu was limited. The building was superbly renovated and converted into a hotel. The breakfasts were great, everything you could want with good service. The reception staff were very efficient and helpful and offered to park the car when we arrived and returned after days out. The rooms were large well furnished and clean. Overall it was an excellent hotel and I would recommend it highly.

Review 36:Quite pricey but Santiago in August is probably top notch. Bathroom was a bit out of date for a hotel trying to be boutique. Standard issue hopeless hairdrier!

Review 37:Beautiful building, great location and good breakfast. Didn't use the pool but it looked nice.

Review 38:A wee kettle in the bedroom would be a useful facility but otherwise perfect

Review 39:The pool and jacuzzi were a lovely bonus after completing the camino, staff were very friendly

Review 40:Great location - a 3 minute walk from the cathedra. Staff at the reception fiendly and very informative. Big and comfortable room. The presence of a nice swimming pool and a restaurant proved extremely useful during our stay as it was raining all the time.

Review 41:The beautifully restored and designed monastery gives all the comfort of a modern hotel within an atmospheric old building. The ambience is lovely, and the staff were without exception friendly, helpful and welcoming

Review 42:I would have preferred if the pool was open from 7am so that I could have had an early swim. I was not happy with the a receptionist's lack of courtesy re location of a bus stop and her giving me incorrect information on a map. I was very disappointed with my choice of trout in the restaurant. I found the dining room very uncomfortable with only three tables occupied, suggest using the large room when more people expected.

Review 43:Comfort of room, swimming pool,

Review 44:Nothing.

Review 45:The hotel provided everything we required for an enjoyable few days stay in Santiago - on the perifory of the old town, within easy walking distance of all amenities and sights, a quiet comfortable environment to chill when we were not sightseeing. The staff were friendly, polite and extremely efficient. We could not fault the hotel in any way and would gladly return in the future.

Review 46:Iffy wifi as in most old stone buildings.

Review 47:Beautifully renovated and converted convent. Friendly and helpful staff. Only two hundred meters from the central square and cathedral.

Review 48:I thought it was a bit expensive.

Review 49:I liked the location and the cleanliness of the room and hotel was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful .

Review 50:My sister had the adjacent room and seemed to develop a severe reaction to dust mite bites from a pillow she took out of the cupboard. We did not use the spare pillow in our room, though we did need the blanket on one occasion but had no issues.

Review 51:For location, comfort and ambience this is one of the most ideal of places to stay in Santiago de Compostela - just minutes from the famous cathedral and in the historic old town. Breakfast buffet was amazing, and kept us going till dinner! We tried room service on two nights which was quick and delicious.

Review 52:Excellent location. Reception staff gave us some very good tips on how to best view the evenings fireworks (of whom we were not aware). Free valet service for the car. Great atmosphere in the old convent - but still a feeling of modernity and freshness.

Review 53:We would have wished there was a fitness room ( but we knew there was not), the pool was OK, but smaller than we had imagined from the photos.

Review 54:The location of the hotel was excellent, very convenient with the parking on the back side of the hotel.

Review 55:The excellent location in the old city, which is entirely a pedestrian zone, implies that both the bus and the railway stations can only be reached by walking or by taxi.

Review 56:Stylish hotel in a historic setting. Excellent buffet breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff. Pleasant bar with enjoyable courtyard terrace. Clean and cool rooms with comfortable beds.

Review 57:Location, location, location. We arrived in Santiago on July 24th (the 25th being St. James Day). The city was crowded and most properties were already booked. We had a reservation at another hotel but once we say a cancelation here we switched. This property is about 300 yards from the Cathedral and we watched the fireworks from our hotel room right out the window. We ate lunch there earlier in the day (very good) and spent most of the 25th at the hotel in one of the courtyards. Staff were great and the property is beautiful. It was pricey (>$350 EUR/night but that might have been because of the feast) but a nice splurge after walking from France. We did have drinks at the Parador and quickly returned here--more charm and much friendly/helpful staff.

Review 58:The wifi was unbelievably bad. Dinner was ok but main courses cooked poorly.

Review 59:The location was superb and the architecture interesting. Breakfast was great.

Review 60:This hotel comes close to perfect . Right at the heart of Santiago in the beautiful Franciscan monestary . Warm reception; lovely room ( windows small because it's a monestary) swimming pool; free parking and all 5 mins from the Cathedral. We took breakfast in the city and lots of choice. super king bed , good a/c and splendid public spaces including the cloisters

Review 61:We couldn't fault it!!!!

Review 62:The staff were so kind and helpful- Olga helped us to orientate ourselves on our first night so a special thank you to her. We spent 3 nights of our honeymoon at the hotel and we would like to thank the staff for making the stay a special one. I met the hotel manager in the lift one day and found his manner to be very open and genuinely interested in how I was enjoying our stay. Breakfast was wonderful with plenty of choice. Superb location. We will return one day.

Review 63:Perfectly situated for driving into town; with free parking! Great styling renovation of an old convent. The prix fixe dinner menu was delicious and a great value for 18€.

Review 64:Ate in the restaurant and felt we were being rushed to finish and leave. No kettle in the room to make coffee.

Review 65:Really good location for centre of Santiago

Review 66:Wifi is restricted due to the super old building.

Review 67:The place was old and modern with tremendous charm. I enjoyed the pool and hottub. The staff were better than any albergue by far.

Review 68:Just two things that are fixable- The pool was freezing ( to me), I did not like the fact that the showers were out by the pool with no privacy, you needed to get back to your room to have a proper shower. I would have like a more informative guest information pack in the room.

Review 69:It was very close to the Cathedral and town centre. After checkout, the hotel minded my bags while I went to Mass, an important gesture for the solo traveller- thank you. The building had some lovely features all tastefully enhanced, in particular, the stained glass windows and it was spotlessly clean.

Review 70:Historic building, unique place to stay. Lovely setting and grounds. Me and my son loved the pool. Very clean, lovely staff, and a great location for cathedral. Will stay again.

Review 71:Ate one night at restaurant which was OK but no more.

Review 72:Ambiance, staff and pool all first class. Well located near centre and free parking a bonus. Wonderful restoration of historic monastery.

Review 73:Great location to everything along with free car park. We were upgraded to a two room suite without asking for it, and it was lovely. Comfortable, quiet, wonderful staff, & great air conditioning!!!

Review 74:Very noisy at night with traffic travelling over the flagstone road in front of the hotel this is not a problem if you can close the shutters and the windows, however it was very warm during our stay and the hotel does not have air conditioning

Review 75:Excellent position, clean and comfortable hotel, lovely staff and good facilities.

Review 76:Not applicable

Review 77:The professionalism of the staff. Whilst staying at the hotel I received some distressing news from home. The staff could not have been more helpful and understanding.

Review 78:Nothing!

Review 79:The conversion of the building itself has been thoughtfully and interestingly carried out. Breakfast and lunch were excellent I'm quality and selection. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. All staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 80:Wi-fi access was intermittent but hotel sent up wi-di booster as soon as they were informed. Menu in restaurant for main meals very limited and not appealing.

Review 81:Service was great, our superior room turned out to be a lovely suite and breakfast was outstanding

Review 82:Nothing to say here!

Review 83:The extraordinary local history represented by the hotels past. Building beautifully looked after, with wonderful service to customers as a compliment to the surroundings.

Review 84:Silly rule which didn't allow us to have our complementary drink in the garden only in the cafeteria

Review 85:The sympathetic architectural details of the conversion from monastery to stylish hotel The swimming pool The car parking Excellent breakfast included Charming and helpful staff

Review 86:The hotel itself, the front dest help, the waiters at the restaurant. The personnel made our visit enjoyable. Super personnel. The food excellent too. The help in particular Diego and Miguel at the restaurant were great.

Review 87:The atmosphere, the helpfulness of the staff. Excellent and so well located to the cathedral, with car parking. I would love to return for longer one day!

Review 88:Th sour -faced woman in charge of Reception likes to boss around the staff and customers alike. She has a stupid approach to towels for the pool, expecting customers to adhere to her crazy system and deliver wet towels to her in Reception. This is a VERY expensive hotel and this sort of bully behaviour towards customers is unacceptable. in fact the hotel represents poor value for money

Review 89:The location and building are wonderful and some of the staff (especially in the restaurant) understand customer service but the management and other staff do not

Review 90:hotel style and setting, choice and quality of the breakfast, comfort. The very helpful and competent staff. Its excellent location near the centre and the cathedral.

Review 91:The hotel is impersonal - it is cold and austere in atmosphere and the way it deals with guests. The hotel rule is that guests who have paid for breakfast are not allowed to take an apple up to their room. I was told this is a rule of the hotel. No tissues provided in the rooms - we were told this was a cost cutting measure. The air conditioning in the rooms is not satisfactory - guests cannot adjust the temperature to suit their preferences. The air conditioning in the bedrooms is regulated by the hotel.

Review 92:The location is good. The building is impressive

Review 93:The fact that sometimes the internet gets lousy. If you work that out, it should be s major plus.

Review 94:Location, treatment by the staff, the hotel itself is for me superb.

Review 95:The staff were wonderful (especially Louis, who went out of his way to help us), the place was extremely clean, peaceful and atmospheric. Location, 5 minutes walk away from the Cathedral, was excellent. Delicious Lenten meal in the restaurant.

Review 96:Only a minor point but it would be even nicer if there were a few seats in the courtyard so you could sit outside.

Review 97:Beautifully restored old building in a wonderful location. Delicious breakfast and friendly staff.

Review 98:You were so gracious in extending my checkout time. I enjoyed the calm serenity of the monastic setting. I have already advised two friends to pay you a visit!

Review 99:Indoor swimming was great but you need to go outsiders

Review 100:Good hotel , originally a monastery, in an excellent position for the Cathedral and old town .. Big advantage is the hotel car park which helps as you don't need a car for the OldTown. Felt the room , although large , was a bit austere design wise ( maybe a nod to the souls of monks from years past). Breakfast was included and was pretty good though not worth the €16 that they would charge on room only. Would I stay here again? Probably though the Parador is worth paying the extra €25 per night

Review 101:The layout of the bathroom in my room was rather odd Imo, bath / shower was behind the door with shower door hitting the larged double basins. Very strange design but small gripe.

Review 102:Very friendly and helpful staff. They informed me about the hotel facilities (unfortunately I didn't get around to use the pool but it looked very nice) and also furnished me with a city map and informed me on key places. The breakfast was really good with lots of fruit and large selections of cakes!! - perfect holiday indulgence. Kept me going until anout 4 in the afternoon.

Review 103:Due to the wall's thickness (it's a historic building), wifi quality is not perfect. You can do the basics (e-mail, light surfing) but even streaming spotify would lag, not to mention Skype and FaceTime. It would be good to provide with ethernet connections for the rooms, since most frequent travellers tend to have pocket routers for this use.

Review 104:Definitely one of the best hotels I've stayed at. The way the building has been preserved is amazing.

Review 105:the pool was closed for repairs (but they sent me an e-mail about it a week ahead, so it doesn't count)

Review 106:XVII century monastery building staff was extremelly hellpfull fantastic breakfast with gluten-free options fantastic restaurant with gluten-free option walking distance of the cathedral

Review 107:The hotel is a beautifully converted monastery. It is full of character with no two areas, rooms being the same. The location is ideal for exploring the old town with the Cathedral in view from the hotel. Parking is by valet. which is a big bonus in this part of town. Hotel staff are very helpful. And the food is very good. WiFi connection is excellent.

Review 108:Stairs up to lift Making cup of tea in room & no ironing board as standard. The staff were more than helpful in providing them.

Review 109:Staff excellent. Facilities very good. Situation excellent.

Review 110:Was looking forward to using the hot tub after a long walk and it was just "meh." It held three people and it was lukewarm.

Review 111:The service really stood out. The staff were very gracious and welcoming to Camino walkers, which wasn't always the case along along the way.

Review 112:Oddly, the faucets in the shower/tub are confusing to operate to get the right water temperature & pressure. When a hotel has to put on sign on the shower door to tell you how to work the faucet, it's a problem. Also I asked the front desk to place a postcard in the mail for me & it never arrived.

Review 113:My room was upgraded by staff upon arrival. The room was spacious & attractive. Very comfortable bed. My 3 course dinner in the restaurant was delicious. The hotel location is terrific.

Review 114:They need to have an actual bar/salon. Having a drink at a plastic table in the breakfast room detracts from the overall quality of the property.

Review 115:Location was perfect. The staff was helpful, albeit a bit standoffish. That said, they were not at all helpful on the day we left when there was a race tying up all traffic; they gave a late warning that it was happening and then didn't have alternate routes. But in general, good staff support.

Review 116:The location of the hotel to the main square & cathedral was ideal for those who just completed the Camino. The quality of the hotel was a perfect reward for my month long journey across Spain and the staff were friendly, helpful & informative. A completely positive experience!

Review 117:The food in the restaurant, while good and well served, was rather bland. Better to go to a local eatery for the Galician seafood experience for lunch or dinner. The hotel breakfast was good.

Review 118:The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel itself is a skilfully converted monastery and as such is an interesting building. It has lots of common areas.

Review 119:Their wi-fi.

Review 120:The hotel is pretty good through and through. The rooms and bathrooms are well appointed and have everything you could need, except for art of any kind. Their breakfast area is dignified, not a windowless basement; the food, pretty awesome. Their wi-fi is not as good, you get disconnected on and off. On our third day we discovered it improved if we stood by the window.

Review 121:The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The rooms were so nice and clean- the best nights sleep I had on my trip in Spain. And the food was excellent quality & delicious. I can honestly say this was the best hotel I stayed at in my trip in Spain. An excellent value for the money. I would definitely return.

Review 122:This is the second year in a row I've stayed at Hotel San Francisco and it was just as wonderful. The staff is fabulous! The restaurant is good and the rooms are great! Love this hotel Nd highly recommend it!

Review 123:Nothing really

Review 124:Location is hard to beat - very central. Parking is good. Historic building is interesting even if a little complicated inside to find your room. Quality conversion.

Review 125:Salons on every floor. Free breakfast with extensive offerings. Beautiful antiquities showcased around the hotel. Wonderful pool house with jacuzzi. Attached church houses excellent museum of holy land art and religious icons as well as historical secular items. Hotel very clean, even in rainy, muddy weather.

The Fine Print

Please note that all single beds are 3 ft (35 inches) wide.
