Reviews for Pousadas de Compostela Hotel Virxe da Cerca

Review 1:The mattress was horrible! We had a double size bed. The bed felt like it was20 years old. Very uncomfortable.

Review 2:Location was perfect. Very close to the center of town.

Review 3:We would have liked to have even a cereal & toast breakfast included.

Review 4:We had a glassed-in balcony which we used & enjoyed. The location was excellent for the church we wanted to visit.

Review 5:Comfortable, clean, spacious room, beautiful, unique facility with a nice grass area with tables where we could sit and have a coffee in the morning. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 6:Location was great. The hotel was near the centre of the old City but far enough away to make it tranquil and peaceful. Once you entered the hotel you forgot you were in a City. A few minutes walk from the catedral.

Review 7:Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, but the breakfast staff were a little less friendly.

Review 8:Elegant rooms- having a room with original stone walls is absolutely amazing. Also, a sitting room overlooking the garden is a very nice touch

Review 9:As with most hotels in Spain bathrooms are fitted with bathtubs, which hardly anyone uses anymore, which are tight, slippery and difficult to access. Definitively not friendly at all for big people or elderly persons.

Review 10:Location is right on the edge of the old city and minutes away from all the historical monuments. Breakfast was awesome

Review 11:In order to get to our bedroom we had to go outside. This was fine in good weather but a little chilly if not.

Review 12:Location near the old part of the city was ideal and we had a pleasant bedroom of a reasonable size. Parking round the back was convenient.

Review 13:Was very difficult to find so we called and spoke several times with a staff member who was not helpful. She was very impatient with us because we did not know where we were. After several calls and.being put on hold, we finally found it. Most of the other staff were polite and helpful and better at directions. The hotel seemed to be showing its age. There was a rug that I would not walk on barefooted.

Review 14:Hotel was convenient to the old city but not inside. Location was good and most of the staff was helpful.

Review 15:No complaints except it rains in Spain. The hotel has excellent umbrellas!

Review 16:Simply a wonderful location, helpful staff, great rooms, great breakfast. A perfect way to enjoy Santiago and Galicia!

Review 17:I had dinner one evening. I have often had better.

Review 18:The hotel is very good located in Santiago with the busy traffic road but when you cam in to the hotel is it just like new world beautiful haven and and beautiful furniture all first class. I like staying in this hotel. Very nice

Review 19:More channels on TV - though this represents a minor point.

Review 20:A classic Spainish style comfortable room with plenty of space. A few minutes walk to the historical centre. Staff were excellent.

Review 21:There was no elevator to our rooms (one part of the hotel) however a member of staff help us with the luggage

Review 22:The building is very nice and historical. Location is very good. Breakfast very cozy and tasty. Staff very nice.

Review 23:We had a great room in the attico, the staff were helpful and the hotel was near the old town and catherdrel just accross from the market we had a great 4 nights there and would go back again

Review 24:Arrived in the midst of a torrential downpour and two of our group had ambulatory issues. No one to help with the luggage. Overall, staff seemed aloof and not particularly interested in being helpful. A big change from very positive experiences in Portugal

Review 25:Location was excellent. Food in their pub/bar was as good as we found in the restaurant district. No complaints there at all.

Review 26:Breakfast could have been better. Hot food had been sitting there for a long time.

Review 27:Decent location. Umbrellas available to borrow! Rooms at the back are quiet and have a pleasant view.

Review 28:Breakfast was 3 star not 4 star. (Coffee and bread especially out of touch with what other 4 star properties offer now.)

Review 29:Location 2 minutes outside the old town made road access and parking much easier than staying at an old town hotel. Internal terrace with our room made the space excellent value. Characterful modernisation of a period property, quiet even though on a busy road.

Review 30:nothing

Review 31:the location close to busy city center, the ambience in a historic building, quiet and tastefully furnished room to the garden side, nice breakfast pavillon/garden, beautiful and large community installations, good WI-FI

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:We requested and got the attic room which is beatiful (usually saved for families), it was like staying in an old scottish castle ... stunning hotel, will definitely return.

Review 34:Nothing..

Review 35:Is the second time we've been in this hotel and we'll be back. Very well located, staff very pleasant and very helpful.... Lovely hotel in a historic building...

Review 36:Room is a little bit small. Bathromm does not meet the requirements from 4 stars hotel. The all structure of hotel is little bit confusing...

Review 37:Very good location. Hotel is in old building very special. Same for garden.

Review 38:All good

Review 39:Close to the major sights and the fact that the hotel did not have a garage was no big deal, parking was very close. Went for a day to the coast and had a fantastic seafood lunch in Muroz. Highly recommended.

Review 40:Aircon made little difference to a very hot room, extractor fan in bathroom not working ; had to call staff to the bar by telephone This was a superior room.

Review 41:Friendly staff excellent buffet breakfast, charming old building with pretty garden. Problems with the room noted by staff and I am confident action will be taken .

Review 42:We asked if we can check out half and hour later and we were refused, given the hotel was fully booked. On our way to reception we saw many empty and clean rooms, and nobody was checking in. Also check in is supposed to start at 14, so checking out at 12:30 shouldn't have affected their entire schedule. Next time they should be more accommodating.

Review 43:really nice hotel, outside of the tourist madness but few minutes walk from all areas of interest. the decor is rustic and very nice, room was quiet, with view to an inside garden - very peaceful. wifi had good strength.

Review 44:Perfect location. Very nice hotel. Super nice breakfast. Very short walking distance to the Catedral and the shopping, restaurants, bars, market. Excellent location and very nice service oriented staff.

Review 45:Parking 12euro per day. Breakfast lacked lustre.

Review 46:Well situated, just by the wall of the old city, opposite the fresh food markets.Reception helpful. Interesting decor using the old building. Pleasant garden

Review 47:- carpet in front of the airco was soaking wet. No attempts were made to resolve that issue. Remains of the breakfast of the previous guests were still in the room. This problem was resolved. There was quite some noise due to festivities during the day and night.

Review 48:- nice view - good location to explore Santiago

Review 49:Nothing to not like...

Review 50:The hotel and grounds are spectacular. Very quiet room. The breakfast was excellent. We finished The Camino de Santiago a day early, they very graciously let us cancel the second night, so we could leave early and see Toledo as well.

Review 51:All your staff werenoy helpful, not welcoming Tried to pay for wine & verbals and the bar hombre simply ignored us Your staff could use some lessons in hospitality

Review 52:Convenient

Review 53:The hotel is located on a very busy road. If like me you get a room overlooking the road, there will be a lot of noise from traffic.

Review 54:It's location is good in relation to the old town. The room was lovely and clean and a great breakfast.

Review 55:A very interesting old building and well adapted to 21st century, with superb artworks on display. Library, lounges, garden with aviary. Staff very helpful.

Review 56:An enclosed balcony in our room at the back of the hotel provided a nice area to sit and look at the beautiful view across the park to an old church. Room was large. Location is on edge of the old town convenient to the cathedral, train station, market and camino.

Review 57:There was no one to help with bags. The lady who showed us to our rooms said she couldn't help, she had a bad back. That was rather inexcusable not to have someone who COULD assist us. Most staff were not outgoing and friendly. The receptionist was the only helpful person.

Review 58:Bed was great breakfast was superb

Review 59:Wifi in room was fair. A litte walk up to cathedral, but lovely through the old section of Santiago.

Review 60:Beautiful elegant hotel, beautifully furnished in a historic building with lots of character, wonderful nooks within the hotel. Our room had an enclosed terrace with opening windows and views of the hotel garden and lovely historic buildings. Very comfortable room. excellent service overall. Across from town market- wonderful.

Review 61:The hotel is situated on a heavy traffic street and there is no place to stop with a car outside the hotel. The car park is situated about 200 meters from the hotel in i hillside.

Review 62:From the street this hotel is not special but when you come in you find rooms in 3 levels. Bar and diningroom around a nice garden with a large cage with birds singing. A lot of smal nice social rooms. Very helpful staff in the reception.

Review 63:breakfast, not great and expensive.

Review 64:it is a beautiful hotel, super location centric and with silence bedrooms. The only ting is that breakfast is a bit expensive for the quality.

Review 65:I did not like that the hotel felt free to add on a donation for UNICEF and charged it to my credit card without my approval. I support UNICEF, however I would have preferred to have been asked upfront, not charged automatically.

Review 66:The hotel was comfortable with a lovely garden area overlooking parts of the city. The rooms were nicely furnished with comfortable beds. Staff was very helpful. Wifi was very unreliable in the guest rooms but worked well in the business center.

Review 67:Free wifi but unfortunately signal not available in the bedroom. Hotel situated on busy road but adequate glazing and shutters to compensate for any noise issues.

Review 68:Very comfortable hotel with friendly staff. The rooms were spacious and well appointed.

Review 69:Nothing.

Review 70:The staff were very friendly helpful and accommodating. The garden was an oasis and provided a wonderful escape from the hordes of pilgrims and tourists. And the Cathedral and mass was a once in a lifetime experience.

Review 71:Difficult to get to rooms. Lots of ups and downs but staff were very helpful.

Review 72:Everything about this hotel was great. Rooms, beds, location and breakfast. All superior for more than i usually spend but it was worth it.

Review 73:I missed the information that all rooms were not as those shown in the images and that there was a premium to be paid for the latter. But I accept that this was not the fault of the hotel nor Booking.com (who were also excellent in handling queries). Our rooms were at the front of the hotel nad my friend reported noise (disco and partying) that prevented her sleeping until 4am on the Friday night at the beginning of May, but next door I slept throughout.

Review 74:Extremely helpful, willing, friendly staff who really tried to meet all guests' needs.

Review 75:only issue was the breakfast not worth the money. But lots of places close by.

Review 76:Really lovely hotel in very good location. Staff were terrific, very very helpful.

Review 77:The shower keeps going hot and cold but it's a water pressure problem for all the hotels in that area which they are trying to resolve.

Review 78:We were given a room upgrade which was lovely. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The location is great for access to the old city and there is a car park at the back of the hotel.

Review 79:It's on a slope so getting luggage from parking to hotel is a bit of a challenge as the elevators only go part of the way. No parking/stopping in street in front of hotel. Very Limited bellhop service , This was not a problem for us but could be for older guests.

Review 80:Beautifully designed hotel to incorporate features of an old building. Bedrooms and common area very nicely decorated.

Review 81:The rooms were really luxurious. The decor was fab and the bed was really comfortable. I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay there again and will return in my next trip to Santiago.

Review 82:The staff were really professional and helpful. We loved the cafe Bar and outside area to have a drink and the breakfast was delicious. A really special romantic place!

Review 83:The food - salad had fresh lettuce and tomato everything else was tinned. Hot breakfast was cold, bacon and sausage ran out every day

Review 84:Balcony Comfortable sitting areas The art in the hotel

Review 85:Room was a bit dark. Lack of sockets. Bathroom was in a corner. Very narrow. Shower was poor. Too low to stand under. Had to be hand held.

Review 86:Hotel had old world charm and atmosphere. Lovely garden also. Staff were very professional. Good location close to the market and great bakery.

Review 87:Nothing at all

Review 88:Room was delightful in old part of hotel. Mini bar was very reasonably priced. Breakfast was substantial although coffee could have been better. All in all an excellent place to stay.

Review 89:Non smoking room smelled of smoke. Yuk!

Review 90:Renovated old building with loads of character. Spacious room overlooking garden. Excellent breakfast. Very friendly helpful staff.

Review 91:very noisy if you have a room on the street side

Review 92:very close to cathedral, old city very clean, charming if you book superior room in the old part of the hotel, nice breakfast, very nice and helpfull staff

Review 93:Breakfast was appauling. Bathroom in need of renovation. Poor toiletries (money saving). Wifi was dead slow and kept cutting off in the room. The only thing that was 4 star is the price.

Review 94:Beatiful hotel in good location with friendly and professional staff.

Review 95:Two different rooms, the first fine but second with very poor see-through curtains letting in far too much light from the bright street lamp just outside my window.

Review 96:My room was in the first floor with a street view, which was not pleasant at all :-(. Windows needed to be covered by shutter all, so people in the street would not star at me while walking around.

Review 97:Fresh orange juice, Serrano ham and melon ... just the perfect breakfast! Very kind and helpful staff, speaking fluent English. Very close to the city center, but also very close to a public transportation. Stony walls and old styled furniture were impressive.

Review 98:We arrived late , the kitchen was about to close but our dinner was served in an unrushed and relaxed manner. The staff were very helpful and pleasant .

Review 99:We were located in the old part of the hotel, on the ground floor, for two nights. On the first night and the morning after the water was not very hot so it was impossible to have a proper shower. We reported this on the first night so the following night the water temperature was as it should be. The fact that the Bar closed before 12 midnight - it was impossible to get a drink in the hotel after that. Noise from a radio at 6am even though we had asked at checkin if the room was quiet. Some of the staff weren't as friendly as others that we had met in hotels in Galicia

Review 100:The location was good for access to both the old and new towns. The bed was very comfortable and the room/bathroom was spotless.

Review 101:None

Review 102:Excellent breakfast, comfort

Review 103:I had a wonderful experience!!!

Review 104:All was lovely but the garden needs a special mention, it was awesome!!!

Review 105:Beautiful rooms and efficient staff. What more do you need?

Review 106:The rudeness of front desk female staff member.

Review 107:the friendliness of most of the staff.

Review 108:We could not get train reservations until close to our arrival date.

Review 109:Even better than what we imagined.

Review 110:The staff was very customer focused. Also, as a single woman traveler, it felt very safe.

Review 111:Wonderful hotel, breakfast, location and services.

Review 112:Breakfast average, e.g. long life rather than fresh bread. Restaurant closed on Sunday.

Review 113:Rooms, ambiance, close to City Centre

Review 114:Facilities, location.

Review 115:The infinite number of staircases to go from one place to the other.

Review 116:The ambiance of the lodge and the well kept garden.

Review 117:Staff were extremely friendly and made us feel like valued guests.

Review 118:Cozy hotel! Really recommend if you will visit Santiago.

Review 119:The weather wasn't great

Review 120:Location was ideal. Had a meal in the hotel. Food and service was excellent.

Review 121:Noise, windows are bad isolated. Specially kids at school in the morning.

Review 122:Cosy

Review 123:Breakfast

Review 124:Location

Review 125:Bed was a bit soft but not too bad

Review 126:Great location - the view is good, the whole building is interesting

Review 127:Very nice place, good location in the centre, good parking, friendly staff, good breakfast.

Review 128:Great and BIG room (superior)

Review 129:Parking next to the hotel (not free). Great location. Helpful staff.

Review 130:nothing to mention

Review 131:Everythinf was excellent
