Reviews for Hospes Palacio del Bailio

Review 1:Spa was underwhelming - treatment average, roman bath not available without bathing suits Rooms on the street side very noisy

Review 2:Fantastically friendly and helpful staff, beautiful hotel with spectacular breakfast room (glass floor built over roman ruins)

Review 3:This is a fabulous hotel. It is a very beautiful restored home, I believe from the 16th century. There are frescos throughout, lovely carved doors and shutters, beautiful staircases with a nice blend of contemporary art and lighting. There are Roman ruins below the dining room which can be viewed thru the dining room glass floor or by visiting them thru the spa. The staff is very helpful and professional. The food whether it was breakfast, tapas or dinner was delicious. We had the prix fixe dinner paired with wine on Christmas. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. It overlooked the pool courtyard which was beautiful with lush vegetation including orange trees. I would gladly stay at this hotel again.

Review 4:The external swimming pool is not cleaned during the winter and consequently cannot be used.It is a pity, because even during this period, temperatures in Spain can go up to 20-21 degrees C (this was the case during our stay).

Review 5:Nice old building, very beautifully renovated. Peaceful and relaxing atmosphere ( our room was giving to a patio).Very good breakfast. What else do you need to start your day nicely?

Review 6:The extra touches, such as the teddy bear they put in my daughter's travel cot. The complementary bottles of water in my car with a sign wishing us a safe journey

Review 7:Bath towel smelled a little of cigarette smoke. Bathtub area had many gaping holes in between tiles and the grouting was turning moldy - some maintenance needed there.

Review 8:Helpful staff provided instructions for accessing the hotel while there were road works going on. Location was convenient.

Review 9:They were doing construction on the hotel during our 2 nights' stay--one night was so noisy & loud that it kept us awake until after 1 am as they worked late. Our room was just above all the noise. When we complained at checkout, we were merely given a weak 'sorry'.

Review 10:Beautiful hotel!

Review 11:Breakfast was expensive and I wouldn't be able to do it justice

Review 12:Helpful staff - before and during stay Ambience of hotel Facilities - Spa was peaceful, garden area and pool quiet and restful Location in quiet neighbourhood Restaurant meal was delicious

Review 13:Gorgeous hotel in a quiet area. Great staff. With construction going on around the area they gave us specific and helpful directions to the hotel. The bedding was fabulous, comfy, clean, and a complete joy.

Review 14:While we loved this hotel property and would definitely stay here again - I must point out the lack of hooks and towel racks in our bathroom. In the morning, I would like to focus on getting ready as quickly as possible & not spend my time trying to figure out where to hang my towel, robe, toiletry bag, etc. Same frustration regarding lack of sink vanity counterspace (fancy sinks in our room (116) are really cool) but there was no where to put all my "stuff". For sure: these issues are not "dealbreakers". :)

Review 15:We enjoyed this hotel very much! Loved the emailed instructions for driving (very necessary), the polite staff, the welcome tour of the facility, valet parking, beautiful grounds, ruins of Roman villa below restaurant, comfortable bed & pillows, large windows, air conditioner that worked well, soaking bathtub & the location (which was a 15 minute walk from everything important). Oh yes, and we loved the toilet night light!

Review 16:Staff were normal. Didn't feel that you are in 5 stars hotel. Breakfast was poor compared to its price. Location was a bit farther than expected from city attractions

Review 17:Room is spacious, facilities are great.

Review 18:The SPA thermal pool was under my room and its steam comes inside my room when I open the room's window the thing which didn't make me enjoy the fresh air and the sound of birds in the courtyard of the hotel

Review 19:The courtyard view

Review 20:The staff there were worked very hard and were delightful but they were understaffed. The sheets were stained.

Review 21:Very pleasant staff and lovely areas to sit outside. Also quiet.

Review 22:I was traveling with frozen baby food and the hotel was nice enough to keep my ice box in their freezer, unfortunately it seemed they kept it in the seafood section as everytime they brought it to me, it smelled like fish, a problem I didn't have with other locations I stayed in. On our last night in Cordoba, we decided to have dinner in one of the hotel's restaurants and the food was not appealing at all, with the shrimps smelling like they just came out of the ocean and very undercooked - not sure if that's how they were supposed to be served. We weren't told about a flamenco show that the hotel was having held in one of it's restaurants.

Review 23:On our last night, there was a flamenco show in one of the hotel's restaurants which we were able to peek in on from the balcony - unfortunately we weren't told about it beforehand so we could reserve our table.

Review 24:Nothing - it was the best experience ever

Review 25:It was an amazing experience. My Husband let them know that we were away on our honeymoon and as a surprise they upgraded us to a junior suite and there was champagne and cake on arrival in the room for us and rose petals around the room. Such a lovely touch. The hotel was run like clock work and nothing was too big or small for them. The breakfast was the best choice i have ever had in a hotel in Europe. The ruins under the restaurant are a must - we saw them after 11pm at night and was so lovely to walk around and see. The hotel had little touches that made your experience all the better- an umbrella to use, bathrobes, a bottle of water in the car when we left. Also the roman baths were amazing- we booked to have a massage and then use the baths afterwards and we had the baths all to ourselves. We booked the baths several times and we had them to ourselves which was great ( Take your camera with you as they are beautiful)

Review 26:Staff were remote and overworked. Explanations of facilities etc were often missing unless you asked staff a direct question.

Review 27:Beautiful setting with dining room over roman ruins, Roman baths and tranquil patio around pool in genuine Córdoba style. Excellent food

Review 28:The service in the restaurant was poor with an overly fancy menu. A simpler menu with well cooked and hot food would have been preferred.

Review 29:Very quiet and peaceful with great interior design. The internal courtyard was a delightful escape from the heat of the midday sun.

Review 30:The hotel's facilities are excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful. The hotel is a short walk from all the sites and restaurants in the city centre.

Review 31:Being really picky - our room lacked natural daylight, window quite small. Warm lavatory seat when it's 30 degrees outside and no control to turn it off!

Review 32:Excellent staff - happy & helpful. Relaxing pool area and courtyard. Roman baths. Comfortable bed.

Review 33:Found a used box of Viagra under the bed, so cleaning was obviously not thorough. Breakfast not being included.

Review 34:The amazing rooms, heated toilet seats, the Roman baths, the outdoor pool. The staff were amazing and really friendly and helpful. The historical building. The guided tour of the Roman ruins.

Review 35:The cost of the parking is too expensive

Review 36:The rooms are very spacious, well decorated, very clean The hotel is beautiful, very well located, everything is walking distance The breakfast was delivered to our room after 10 minutes which is really quick and pleasant Very good value for your money The recommendations of the staff for our lunch and dinner

Review 37:Very comfortable and beautifully restored. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Cordoba is stunning with few tourists. Very hot though!

Review 38:Only complaint - service of restaurant staff is hit and miss.

Review 39:This is an OUTSTANDING hotel. Staff very pleasant and attentive. Roman baths are really great touch. Pool outside was nice. Absolutely loved this hotel. One of the best we've stayed at in Europe. A true gem!!!

Review 40:Promotion photo sessions ongoing during our stay.

Review 41:True palace with autentic artefacts and a great history. All services are fully dedicated to a stay in high standard quality and luxury.

Review 42:Unfortunately my last day was ruined by a couple of unsupervised badly behaved children who would have been better suited to Center Parcs ! I would suggest this became an adults only hotel ! A little more waiter attention at the poolside.

Review 43:A tranquil & beautiful garden ..... Efficient & extremely courteous staff. A sophisticated & adult escape !

Review 44:Difficult to navigate to by car, a maze of small one-way streets.

Review 45:The Grand Loft Suite is really worth while. Excellent room and good value for money. Breakfast is really good, broad selection and very fresh.

Review 46:I had an expensive massage at the spa and the girl gave the weakest softest massage I have ever had.. And she seemed annoyed to be working.

Review 47:We were upgraded to the Junior Suite - amazing. My mum and I thoroughly enjoyed the pool, spa, food and overall ambience of hotel.

Review 48:Nothing

Review 49:Very helpful staff - we were especially pleased to have the car parked for us after struggling to follow the sat nav through the tiny streets. Pool was also very welcome.

Review 50:There was some building work going on in the courtyard one morning, which disturbed our breakfast slightly.

Review 51:The setting was perfect, a short walk into the centre of town, which was very good in the summer heat. The rooms were impeccable and spacious, the breakfast was delicious and the staff incredibly helpful and friendly. It was an ideal place to stay and come back to after wandering around the town. We also had treatments and went to the Roman baths inside the hotel - luxury!

Review 52:The swimming pool is tiny and uninviting with very limited privacy. Our suite (although we were upgraded

Review 53:The location and building is nice and we were upgraded to a suite on arrival. Staff were polite and courteous

Review 54:This hotel is simply outstanding! From Phillipe's warm reception to our amazing spacious ultramodern Junior Suite, and the professionalism throughout we were blown away. The location is good and quiet. away from the buzz....a 10/15 minute walk to the Mesquita. This elegant historic building and its modern decor and furnishings is out of this world. The pool area, a complete oasis, is exquisite under the orange trees with stunning loungers, beds and sheer tranquility. Breakfast was sumptuous and serene in a gorgeous frescoed atrium, and with excellent service. We absolutely loved our stay here and would not hesitate to return or recommend to anyone seeking accommodation that is a cut above.

Review 55:Excellent hotel. The ghost that appeared in our room wearing a toga each evening was a bit upsetting, but we got used to him and became quite fond of him after a while.

Review 56:Problem with wifi, comes and goes The pool is too small for amount of people, more like a hot tub in the summer- there was also work done in the area around the pool, which then became unusable for 2 days. Not having a pool is highly dissatisfying when the temperature is rising to over 40°C

Review 57:The location is great everything can be reached on foot. The interior design of the hotel is beautiful - every detail is done with a lot of care and taste. The staff is very friendly and tend to your every wish.

Review 58:The swimming pool renovationswhilst we were there. Could still use pool but lots of electric wires around and drilling and hammering.

Review 59:Enjoyed the flamenco guitar dinner

Review 60:It was all great! Thank you!!

Review 61:I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely and the pool was a welcome relief with the heat! I had to wait after checkout time as my train didn't leave got a few more hours. The staff were very welcoming for me to stay by the pool and shower and leave when it was time for the train. Lovely experience!!!

Review 62:Truly beautiful hotel, friendly, helpful staff, great food. Just the best holiday experience, whether relaxing in the pool or enjoying a lovely meal all facilities where top rate.

Review 63:Air/co in the room and noise in the lobby. Employees proposed to change room.

Review 64:Great place to visit the city in the morning and relax at pool in the afternoon. Employees are smiling. Great services

Review 65:I cannot think of one negative

Review 66:Fabulous rooms and public areas. The whole experience of spending four days in such chic and relaxed splendour was wonderful. Staff were incredibly attentive and yet not intrusive in any way.

Review 67:nothing. Only fault was too much hanging room in wardrobe and not enough shelf space for clothes - we were there 5 days

Review 68:It was a beautiful hotel - very clever mix of old and new, breakfast splendid lovely pool area surrounded by orange trees and quiet in the old town so only 10 minutes walk to cathedral

Review 69:We loved our stay here - fabulous hotel, beautiful gardens, great pool and large beautiful rooms. Convenient location in Cordoba - many cafes and restaurants in walking distance, and only 10 minute walk to the Mezquita. We highly recommend you stay at this fabulous hotel.

Review 70:The 'changing area' in the Roman baths was cramped & very wet underfoot, which was potentially dangerous.

Review 71:Beautiful building, sensitively restored. Attentive, helpful staff. Fantastic breakfast.

Review 72:Food was confusing. Three different menus from one kitchen. Was really underwhelming for the price. Food here is very expensive for what you get. Room isn't great either. But then we weren't particularly impressed with food in cordoba generally. Food is not well seasoned, (e.g basic salad dressing, salt and pepper seasoning lacking).

Review 73:The hotel was most pleasant part of our stay. Facilities. Especially the spa. They accommodated a private spa session for us which was very nice! Nice setting, lovely garden and pool area and the library is very relaxing. Very clean!

Review 74:The bathroom loo ,albeit somewhat space age ( heated ,illuminated on contact!! Yes really!) was enclosed in a glass micro section.if over 5 feet 6 inches and of slightly excess proportions, you've no chance!

Review 75:The staff were excellent especially at check in and at dinner in the courtyard

Review 76:Bath in room was not clean on arrival. The hotel inspector would have bee agast at the pu... we found!

Review 77:Oasis of peace in a bustling Andalucian city. Peaceful courtyards to sit and relax. Excellent regional food.

Review 78:Not great value for money. The outdoor dining was disappointing.

Review 79:The design of the facility was very good. The staff were very helpful. The room was large.

Review 80:Breakfast was excellent. The hotel itself was an amazing step back in time. The main attractions are very close but it is a bit of a hike to the train station.

Review 81:Parking is too expensive!

Review 82:Everything about this hotel is 1st class. We love having an entry hall in the room that separates the bathroom from the bedroom. It also provides an extra door that makes the room more isolated from the hotel hallway. The facilities are wonderful including the Roman baths and the outdoor pool area.

Review 83:This comfortable quiet hotel is in a good location for all the attractions of Cordoba. The service & staff were excellent and made our stay very enjoyable.

Review 84:It is a beautiful hotel with stunning rooms and gorgeous courtyards. Breakfast was great and I had a lovely reasonably priced meal in the evening. Wonderful helpful staff.

Review 85:Having to leave

Review 86:The service, like all hotels in the Hospes group, was of the highest level. They have a wonderful large courtyard in the Moroccan Riad style with swimming pool and tree shaded tables. Location was perfect for exploring Cordoba. Restaurant was excellent.

Review 87:The hotel is set in a wonderful environment, from the shady courtyard at the entrance to the beautiful garden which houses the swimming pool. The staff are extremely helpful and the breakfast is excellent.

Review 88:Leaving.

Review 89:Flamenco night dinner was great. Slightly formal atmosphere but the setting, guitar playing and flamenco, plus the meal were really memorable.

Review 90:Couldn't pick up internet on laptop - suspect number of devices is limited but not made clear. Bathroom not practical - sink is not pluggable so no good for wet shaves. Very little storage space for toiletries/.

Review 91:The comfortable and quiet room The Fameco show on theSaturday night

Review 92:When we were out of the room the staff came and left the door open and a large bag of rubbish on the floor - from another room! We drew this important breach of security to the staff at Reception but received no explanation or apology.. A mistake but a serious one in that anybody could have accessed our room for a number of hours. There is little point in having a safe in the room or keys if, when a room is being tidied the staff leave rubbish on the floor and the door open!

Review 93:beautiful building and gardens

Review 94:Service at breakfast is poor, coffee is served at the table but there are clearly not enough waiters so you wait for 10-15 mins. Portions in the gourmet restaurant are really small. No sauna in the spa.

Review 95:Beautiful hotel in great location and convenient valet parking. Flamenco and guitar show was wonderful.

Review 96:The Roman preserved mosaic just beneath your feet at the Breakfast/Dinner inner space; The exterior andalusian patio; The fantastic guitar and flamenco show at dinner; The 'Semana Santa' procession just outside the door; Superb (polite and helpful) Staff;

Review 97:Excellent location, a short stroll from the main sights. Lovely grounds, patios with orange trees Excellent restaurant and service generally, nothing was too much trouble

Review 98:nothing, this hotel is simply perfect.

Review 99:I liked everything of this resort, from the architecture, the internal finings, the restaurant, the stunning rooms, corridors, SPA, and the fantastic roman bath and ruinsd underneath the Hotel. I am planning to visit this hotel again soon, it is a romantic escape in a fantastic frame with your beloved one. Excellent value of money.

Review 100:Struggled with a key which combined electronic with manual, and weighed more than a jailor's! Had to ask for fresh milk, but no problem getting it.

Review 101:We were offered an upgrade at a supplement before we travelled, did not take up the offer as we were happy with photo of our room, then were given an upgrade to junior suite anyway! It was lovely: a large sitter/bedroom, separate lobby/wardrobe room and separate large well-appointed bathroom. All overlooking quiet courtyard from above.

Review 102:None! Our only regret is that we hadn't planned to spend more time here!

Review 103:This was our favorite hotel in Andalusia! We had the Junior Suite which was huge and magnificently appointed. The spa-like bathroom was enormous and included a soaking tub, fully designed shower stall, separate toilet, and double sink. The room and hotel common spaces were all in muted tones and spacious - zen-like! The staff were most helpful, friendly and treated you like royalty. The buffet breakfast was served most elegantly in the intimate dining room. It had a delicious and varied assortment of delectable choices hot and cold. We also had our dinner in the restaurant which was a culinary delight - one of our favorite dinners on our trip. It was winter so we weren't able to take advantage of the outdoor dining (on a glass floor giving a dramatically lit view of old ruins beneath the first floor of the palace) nor did we have time for the Roman baths which were available to all guests. This was a stunning hotel. I would come back to Córdoba just to stay here!

Review 104:The spa was overcrowded and in general needed to be better staffed (refresh towels etc) Breakfast was slow on service although excellent food

Review 105:In the dining room, the floor is glass to reveal a Roman house below the palace Room was great, very big.

Review 106:this jewel must be seen / top staff / top rooms / top restaurant / hotel with a history / i rate it 11 ( on scale from 1 till 10 ) ..the best

Review 107:very expensive for the comfort of the room with little space and tiny bathroom. the quality of the food at dinner ( New Years Eve dinner party) was rather disappointing.

Review 108:the decoration of the hotel is very tasteful and original; location in centre of town good, staff excellent

Review 109:Small bedroom Dark bathroom Very poor and reluctant service Given the quality and the service levels prices for food were too high by at least 25%

Review 110:Very good location in the ancient city Beautiful historic building Very good wifi

Review 111:Everything was over priced, The room was nothing special for a 5* hotel. I have stayed at 3* hotel better than this hotel. Breakfast expensive , Parking very expensive, There must be better and cheaper hotels in Cordoba,

Review 112:Location, front desk staff very helpful

Review 113:WIFI enabled me to receive emails but not send them. One staff member said there was a problem with my laptop but there wasn't.

Review 114:Everything except the wifi. The hotel really reflected the character of the history of Cordoba in the best possible way. It extended the Moorish experience of the sights of Cordoba. Additionally there was a performance of flamenco in the restaurant one evening. Quiet but convenient location.

Review 115:Too quiet, further away from the sights than indicated. Friendly staff but too slow. Difficult to find the Hotel. Charming but not 5 stars, room decoration too scratched and bathroom too dark for my taste.

Review 116:Decoration and architecture is charming.

Review 117:Very quiet hotel, not too far from city center. The room was nice, design, although à bit unpersonal as it can sometimes be in these upper market hotels. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Really excellent breakfast buffet.

Review 118:Only one option at breakfast: 24 euros for a huge selection, whichlooked delicious. However, we wanted a smaller and more simplebreakfast: fruit, coffee and toast. So we paid 24 euros for coffee andtoast! It would be great if they offered a continental style breakfastfor less money.

Review 119:The location, the beautifully restored palace with modern amenities; thewelcoming, friendly and efficient staff who were always at your serviceand not intrusive; would definitely return next trip to cordoba.

Review 120:The sheets on the bed were nothing like the quality used at Palacio de Los Patos in Granada...but....we did have a junior suite there perhaps that is an upgrade....which we would gladly pay for....

Review 121:My husband had a massage very good......the staff were very helpful... The breakfasts were good and the location was good.....

Review 122:Service was a bit slow but nothing really to warrant any real displeasure

Review 123:Hotel and everything about it, the rooms was spacious, the breakfast was great(no smell of fried food), staff very attentive ensuring that the buffet breakfast is continually topped up, the choice of breakfast available and cooked at your request, courtyard seating area, pool seating area as well as pool patio area, roman baths..... list goes on

Review 124:Breakfast is pricey.

Review 125:Rooms are simple but beautiful and quiet. Amenities are perfect. Location (near plaza tendillas) is perfect - you can walk everywhere. Staff was really lovely. The patio / swimming pool area is a peace heaven.

Review 126:we couldn't understand why we pay for spa package ... it does not include anything... needed a sauna or steam room with the roman baths...

Review 127:good location, very cool building, good breakfast...

Review 128:Beautiful accommodations. The room was sparkling clean and elegant, and the staff members were friendly and thoughtful. Excellent breakfast selection; great value for the money.

Review 129:Room maintenance wasn't great - lots of broken items on first day

Review 130:Fantastic old building really well renovated. So quiet and peaceful Easy to walk anywhere in Cordoba Staff quick to fix problems

Review 131:Our room was located just over the entrance gate to the hotel property, hence arriving guests and taxis could be heard and smelled. No on siteparking lot and nearby garage costs 26 Euro/day, however door todoor service is offered by the hotel.

Review 132:Excellent base for exploring the old town of Cordoba. Lovely courtyardwith orange trees and swimming pool. Wonderful furnished rooms with amedieval spirit.
