Reviews for La Casa Grande

Review 1:nothing

Review 2:amazing view from the window, super nice and helpful staff, and wonderful breakfast. i would recommend this lovely place to anyone looking for a nice peaceful getaway

Review 3:Because of the very narrow street it is impossible to get to the hotel by car. Our bathroom was only separated from the bedroom by a relatively low wall - not very private.

Review 4:The people at this small hotel were very welcoming and friendly. Our room had a fantastic view, and a lovely terrace.

Review 5:No complaints of any kind about the facilities or staff. It is a little difficult to find amidst the winding streets of Arcos. However, everyone we asked was very helpful, and the old town isn't that large, so it was a pleasant hunt.

Review 6:Amazing old building situated on the side of a cliff overlooking the valley below. Everything (walls, closets, floor, bathrooms) was restored to perfection and although we felt we were staying in an obviously historical property, it was pristine. Fabulous attention to detail - linens were lovely and high end. Check in took place in the courtyard/dining area, and was accomplished while seated and sipping little glasses of sherry. Breakfast served in courtyard/dining area was substantial and made to order - fabulous, tasty food showcasing the meats, cheeses, jams of the area. While we didn't use the patio very much, it was lovely to sit and look out over the valley. I wish had spent more time here, because wine on the patio at sunset would have been spectacular.

Review 7:It's not negative but you need to be ready to drive narrow streets, walk few hundred yards on cobbled pavements and finally take stairs down to your room.

Review 8:A boutique hotel with a soul. Breathtaking views. Breakfast.

Review 9:No WiFi in room.

Review 10:Excellent location in old town with fantastic view from room and own terrace. Very helpful charming staff. Brilliant breakfast served on the central patio, fresh, filling & great value. Comfy bed. Quirky, character property with original features, and interesting eclectic art, crafts & antique collection.

Review 11:Everything. Beautiful house, welcomed with a glass of fino. Will go again. Leave car in underground car park and take a taxi to the hotel unless you enjoy driving around tight corners and narrow streets.

Review 12:A little difficulty parking on arrival. Solved by dropping the rest of the party off at the paradour and parking down in the new town.

Review 13:Fantastic view from the terrace. Great rooms. Delicious breakfast. Very friendly staff.

Review 14:AC was questionable but the August evening cooled off beautifully so we could sleep with lovely wide patio doors open to view of catedral (until roosters in coop below began to crow at 5am!). So AC wasn't an issue for us. We normally travel 4 stars. This is 1 star because of basic facility/amenities but a lovely experience that all should try if open to local experience.

Review 15:Location, authenticity, quaint and truly local appeal

Review 16:Nothing !

Review 17:Everything. The place is AMAZING ! House from 1729 (if I recall) right on the cliff of Arcos. The views from the rooftop terrace are unparalleled. Host Jasmin was super friendly and nice. Driving up to the plaza with a 9 seater van was a challenge, but fun. Getting down from plaza the next day was even more of a challenge - if you can't handle it, park at the lot down the hill and take a taxi. it is a 3 minute walk from the plaza to the hotel. Perfect location for exploring Arcos.

Review 18:the staff was excellent, the views from the room were beautiful. it is located in old town, so if you are renting a larger car and not accustomed to driving on very narrow streets, this location is not for you. We loved our stay and the breathtaking views of the valley from our room. We walked to dinner, a little place the staff recommended called 'La Carcel' and it was excellent.

Review 19:The members of staff we met we extremely warm and helpful. The decor and atmosphere of the hotel are lovely, and we spent a wonderful hour or so watching the sunset and swallows on the roof terrace.

Review 20:Electricity went out one night. <found out the next am that the circuit breaker was in our room and could have just flipped it myself

Review 21:Perfect location. Helpful friendly staff. Views from roof terrace.

Review 22:The beds were a tad hard and the stairs to our room a little challenging.

Review 23:A very friendly welcome helped calm our nerves after a stressful drive through the very narrow and challenging streets of Arcos. Maybe the bus up the hill would have been a better option, but we made it up and down without a scratch on our brand new rent a car...thanks largely to the generous guidance from the townsfolk. La Casa Grande was just like a comfortable family home. The location spectacular and the breakfast great value.

Review 24:1)It was a nightmare to get to this hotel. It was an Easter and all streets around were closed. We had to park our car 15 mins walk away form the hotel and to take our luggage up to the hill. But anyway streets are very narrow thus better to take a taxi from a parking. 2)Toilet. There is no a solid wall in the bathroom and just like a toilet cabin which was very uncomfortable. 3) WIFI is only downstairs in the hall

Review 25:Stunning view - really breathtaking. Room was clean. Very friendly staff. The hotel gives you a feeling that you stay at someone's place 100 years ago. There were candles in the lobby, an original furniture, vases. Very cosy especially during evening time.

Review 26:What a charming place. We stayed just one night and wished we could have stayed for a much longer time. The views were stunning and we loved the very tasty breakfast and the way it was served!! Gracias

Review 27:This is a really beautiful spot, looking over the wonderful landscape below, very evocative of the centuries of history it has seen. Breakfast was wonderful with local artisan food.

Review 28:The WiFi was available but we couldn't make it work.

Review 29:Well positioned in the old town of Arcos, close to historic centre and bars. Breakfast was delightful.

Review 30:A bit difficult to reach with the car, but this is not the hotel's fault really.

Review 31:The house and the room were just amazing, so well looked after and so beautiful. The staff were also very helpful and nice. We felt very welcome from minute 1.

Review 32:From the moment Elena opened the heavy ancient wood entrance door and the iron gate to welcome us with a glass of sherry and olives, we were lost in times past, you are at peace as soon as you step into the lovely courtyard, surrounded by whitewashed walls, stone pillars and tasteful art all around. Our room was the old pigeon coup "El Palomar" on the top floor, entering off the roof top terrace, just stunning, with lovely kept stone floor, wooden beam ceiling, tasteful artwork and a special poem on the wall just for us, and the bathroom's understated elegance not competing with the past. We enjoyed some lovely sun sets on the terrace with a glass of wine, watching the birds actually flying below you and an unbelievable view. Elena and her staff were very attentive and helpful, we so enjoyed breakfast in the courtyard with attention given to little details, every evening candles would light your way through the courtyard, library, walking up the rounded old stairwell to your room. We felt privileged and lucky to have found this lovely hotel, we now consider our treasure and hope some day to return - built in 1729 and with love and pride taken care off. Thank you Elena Karl and Manuela

Review 33:That we couldn't stay for a week.

Review 34:From the welcome glass of sherry and bowl of olives while we were checked in, to the beautiful rooftop patio overlooking an amazing valley at the foot of the cliff. From the charming old (in all the best ways) room filled with traditional items like locally-woven wool blankets and folk art to all the modern conveniences we needed. From the friendly and professional but unobtrusive staff to the delightful town. Everything was wonderful and worth the hike up the hill! Thank you for providing such a wonderful location for a memorable stay.

Review 35:Totally serene , beautiful decor ,amazing situation. Really hospitable service , couldn't ask for more other than to be transported back there right now!

Review 36:We would be hard pressed to find anything that we didn't like about La Casa Grande. Of course it would have been lovely to have had a swimming pool, but once you see the hotel, you know exactly why it doesn't!

Review 37:This hotel is a gem in terms of being very individual and distinctive. The owner has obviously invested a lot of her creative and artistic personality into it. The staff are so helpful and welcoming that you feel at home almost immediately. Nothing is too much trouble. I would love to return.

Review 38:Avoid "El Palomar" room, the bath drainage stinks a lot and it is not a "town problem" as the owner claims. My neighbour next room hadn't this problem.

Review 39:Location and furniture

Review 40:Fantastic situation on edge of cliff close to main square and San Pedro. Peaceful courtyard and roof terrace with amazing views. Rooms tastefully decorated and some great art work.

Review 41:Firstly that this was a traditional large house that had not been renovated with loving care, preserving the history whilst creating modern comfort with artistic touches. Their roof terrace was fantastic for a bottle of Rose as the sun was setting!

Review 42:If you have a car it can be tricky navigating around Arcos. Also once you do park it's a few minutes walk - this is fine but bring small cases!

Review 43:Staff - very friendly and welcoming. Room - the views from the terrace are stunning. Roof garden - again great views. Breakfast - good quality.

Review 44:Out only downside was our difficulty in reaching it with out baggage - this is not the fault of the hotel but rather the towns organisation - " a carpark I'm the lower town and a shuttle car service would be a god soliton and also be a tourist attraction.

Review 45:We loved Arcos de la frontera and la casa grande was the icing on the cake - everything there was perfect - including the cooked breakfast..

Review 46:When we arrived we felt the owner was hurried and curt, the inner courtyard which could have been so beautiful and welcoming was cheerless, we were made to wait quite awhile before we were shown to our room. At this point our expectations of our room was low. We were pleasantly surprised to find a large wonderful room stylishly decorated with Morroccan touches. Be aware that you will need to walk about a block with your bags as the street is too narrow for cars.

Review 47:Loved our room, very comfortable bed and linens, stylish decor and 2 terraces with fabulous views. Helpful and lovely staff.

Review 48:Nothing,nada

Review 49:Friendly staff, service excellent.bicycle storage not an issue, very respectful of our wishes, rooftop patio view best in Arcos.breakfast outstanding.

Review 50:Carpet in bedroom was covered in hairs and bits, clearly had not been vacuumed for a while Some of the furnishings were a little shoddy, ie frame on a sign in the bathroom was broken. My pet hate - whilst the bathroom was great, the privacy wasn't - the wall was not full height and neither was the frosted, sliding glass door at it's entrance.

Review 51:Location service decor sherry on arrival roof terrace and view air con A beautiful house in a fabulous setting. Quirky and charming and decorated with some excellent art work. The bed was very comfortable, nice crisp sheets and qood quality towels. The highlight of a stay here is the amazing view from the roof terrace, one not to miss.

Review 52:- Hard to get by car, better to park car before getting into the old part of town and little alleys and get to the hotel by taxi - Pack light!!! not large baggage friendly

Review 53:- Location, Location, Location - Beautiful view !!! - Very relaxing - Cozy & nostalgic

Review 54:Absolutely incredible. The views from the rooftop terrace are breathtaking, the suites are beautiful, comfortable and spotless, the staff is warm and welcoming, the food is delicious, the library is inspiring, I could go on and on. Will go out of my way to return. Do yourself a favor and book it.

Review 55:Access to the wifi was only in the downstairs dining area and was a bit of a hit or miss but we were on holiday and didn't really need it. Can't comment on breakfast as it wasn't included in the price and perhaps should have been given the cost of the room. Thought what they were charging for breakfast was a bit excessive but we found some great places nearby to eat that were much cheaper and perfectly good.

Review 56:Entering La Casa Grande was like entering a peaceful calm oasis. Great location in the old town area of Arcos. Lovely welcome from the staff with complimentary sherry, olives and cold water. Beautiful arty decor throughout the building. Our room was downstairs at the end of a corridor but came out into a big cool room with French doors leading out to two terraces. Fantastic views over the countryside and a great place to sit. The room was well appointed with nice organic toiletries in the bathroom. There is also a nice rooftop terrace where we sat late one evening where it was nice and cool.

Review 57:You need to be able to walk to the hotel with your luggage. Streets are super narrow and parking is not on site.

Review 58:Beautiful hotel, gorgeous views, fantastic breakfast. I wish we had been able to stay another night and just enjoy the rooftop terrace.

Review 59:Just be aware you need to navigate are quite steep steps to reach the terrace

Review 60:It was a joy and a rare treat to spend hours with the spectacular views from a spacious cliff top terrace. I'd say the junior suite made it all the more special with it's tasteful decor and direct access onto the terrace

Review 61:The doors were very low - mind your head! Lots of stairs to the roof level rooms - ok for us but not for less mobile. No Wi-Fi in room - but there was in central courtyard

Review 62:Lovely central courtyard, where we had a wonderful breakfast. Staff were very helpful and gave advice in advance on parking (in the square a few minutes walk away). We were in room on roof - a few stairs but once up there - a great view and place to watch the sunset. Aircon, comfortable beds, towels, hairdryer. The terrace was lovely and the hotel had a bar so could have drinks up there.

Review 63:It is about 3 city blocks downhill on cobbles (and back up) from parking. All rooms are either up stairs or down stairs. This made it a difficult ordeal for one of our party who has some mobility issues. This should not put you off from the hotel if you are capable of hauling the luggage and negotiating the steps. But it is good to be aware before you arrive and are surprised by it.

Review 64:Casa Grande is a wonderful little hotel with distinctive rooms with views that are sensational. The staff is very helpful. The breakfast is great with fresh fruit and made to order egg. We enjoyed being near the two cathedrals and good restaurants. I would definitely return.

Review 65:Staff were friendly, and the breakfast was delicious. It is a good location, but best to take a train to Arcos de la Frontier rather than driving as the roads are steep and narrow. There is a minibus taxi from the carpark to the hotel which we were told about, and which took us straight to the hotel. Great views from the top!

Review 66:Super friendly staff, spectacular location and views, delicious breakfast. Overall, it felt like a home away from home and we would return in a heartbeat.

Review 67:Parking is difficult and driving to the hotel is challenging.

Review 68:Authentic hill town experience. Fabulous view terrace and good breakfast.

Review 75:To stay in such an old family home. The staff were attentive and considerate. The view is amazing!

Review 76:The location offers dramatic views and a cozy tucked away appeal for a very romantic bed and breakfast appeal.

Review 77:The difficulty with parking.

Review 78:The spectacular location. Private terrace with amazing views

Review 79:Host very accommodating. Charming place.

Review 80:Extra pillows had dirty pillow cases on them and the bed was not comfortable at all.

Review 81:Great views and we had a nice patio on the side of the hill.

Review 82:Great hospitality, beautiful hotel, fantastic location in a dream village.

Review 83:No wifi in the room, only in the patio

Review 84:Beautiful house, beautiful Ron, great rooftop terras so you can enjoy the incredible view.

Review 88:Staff was great! Friendly and welcoming. Exceptional location with a great view.

Review 89:The breakfast was to die for

Review 90:difficutlt to reach if by car, humid smell in room, no separate toilet in bathroom

Review 105:Bookings.com gave an incorrect description of our room on website. Owner straightened it out, but you need to get correct description ASAP

Review 106:Loved the balcony (on two levels) with amazing views. Fabulous breakfast in the really gorgeous living area.

Review 107:The location is excellent for walking around Arcos. The hotel has loads of charm and is very comfortable.
