Reviews for Parador de Arcos de la Frontera
Review 1:Driving up to this Hotel is an amazing trial of skill with roads only inches wider than a car. Getting down again is equally thrilling - take out full insurance on your hire car if your going to drive here.
Review 2:Fabulous position and wonderful rooms with a view that can seldom be equalled. The village itself is lovely with great tapas only a stone's throw down the street Fabulous! Breakfast was a shade disappointing.
Review 3:We only spent 2 nights and a few more would have been perfect.
Review 4:Location was perfect. Facilities were very comfortable. Perfect Tapa bars 2 blocks away. A romantic retreat. Caution either park in the new town & take a taxi or have the smallest rental model car as possible. Side mirrors Must be pulled in and you still only have inches to spare.
Review 5:The location is stunning, although getting to the hotel can be a little bit scarey, tight corners and steep hill, and not guaranteed a parking space outside the hotel. Excellent tapas nearby.
Review 6:I a few days before in the Parador in Zafra which I found much better for the following reasons. The staff and at the front desk and restaurant spoke much better English. I felt the staff in Zafra went out of their way to make everything right. For example, when I came back one afternoon from driving around there was no parking space. the staff immediately found me a parking space at the front door. I could go on, needless to say we will go back to the Zafra Parador.
Review 7:The location and facilities were good. The room was very large and overlooked a square with a popular church. The facility was very clean.
Review 8:Only the width of the roads in places!
Review 9:Having negotiated all those narrow streets and parked the car the rest was pure pleasure and comfort. A lovely hotel with great rooms (spectacular views from the terrace) and a quality restaurant in the best Parador tradition. Allow enough time to potter around - it's a fascinating town.
Review 10:Parking was tricky. We arrived on a Sunday so parking was free beside the parador but as of 11 am on Monday we had to plug a meter every two hours. As we stayed only one night, this wasn't a big deal but it could have been an issue for a longer stay.
Review 11:The parking system is a bit weird. We just double parked and told the receptionist. In due course she called us to announce that there was a free space. It was guarded until we arrived by a man that we paid a small amount (5EURO) for his efforts.
Review 12:The location is fabulous with a private terrace overlooking the valley. Fast Wifi with a strong signal. Reasonably priced restaurant of average quality.
Review 13:Excellent location. Room no 18 was the best room with a spectacular view of the valley and part of the old town. It was tastefully decorated in period style and had an enormous ensuite also with views. Staff was most helpful and courteous .
Review 14:June in southern Spain is hot. Hotel turns off the central air which serves rooms and public areas from 6am till noon. Rooms get stuffy. Challenge to drive to! Exit from central square parking is harrowing.
Review 15:Had a balcony room both view from the city overlooking the valley. Well worth the additional cost. Saturday night Flaminco singers at dinner - all local diners. Like being at a lical wedding.
Review 16:The route up was ok apart from one narrow bit. Going down a bit more difficult as lots of pedestrians.
Review 17:The. Views, the staff, our upgraded room 18! The restaurant was very reasonable and tasty. You simply must book a room with a balcony.
Review 18:The A/C did now work, it was more like a fan and the room was really hot, and outside it wasn't that warm. Getting there with the gps is impossible and there are no parking facilities we had to leave the car far away and couldn't bring the bags up to the hotel because it was so up high and far.
Review 19:It is a nice location, the view is great and the price is ok.
Review 20:We were told that as we had no dinner reservation we could be just be "squeezed in". The dining room was half empty!! Waiters should not search for self importance or perhaps gratuitous tips! The so-called Golden Years offer does not exist online .. The staff have no explanation or interest in providing same.
Review 21:Staff were very friendly. We paid for an upgrade to a room with a terrace over the sheer drop to the river. We had an excellent dinner with great wine. All very good value.
Review 22:The wifi wasn't working, but that was the only negative. We had been alerted beforehand of the importance of leaving our car in the lower part of the town and taking a taxi to the Parador, because driving and parking in the old town is a major challenge.
Review 23:The setting, location, scenery and old-world ambience make this a superb Parador experience in the magnificent hill town of Arcos de la Frontera
Review 24:nothing
Review 25:The Parador - Arcos de la Frontera is on top of a hill and is superb and book a room with a balcony it is well worth it The result is breath-taking views. The meal we had in the evening was very good and typical local cuisine. It is a well-run hotel very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful and do not forget to ask them the way to leave. The down side to this is a steep and narrow drive up, forget the sat nav stop in the town and ask the way.
Review 26:Not much to do there in February. Many of the restaurants were closed in the evening
Review 27:It's worth upgrading to a room with a view. The location is right at the top of the town. There is parking outside the parador for about 4 euros a day. The streets coming up are very narrow. We had a small hire car managed ok but take care. The staff at the parador are very friendly
Review 28:Arriving to the Paradore was an adventure because of the extremely narrow streets. Not for everyone.
Review 29:The parador is on the central plaza next to a very attractive church. The views of the countryside are stunning.
Review 30:Drinks are very expensive. We could have be given a room with a view as the hotel was empty. It might be worth asking when booking.
Review 31:Although it is possible to park outside the hotel for a very small fee I would recommend parking in town if suitcases are light enough. The streets are very narrow and there is a strong risk of scratching your car on the way down.
Review 32:Location and views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking! It was very quiet and private. The dining and food served was fantastic and offered many varieties. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place for one or more nights! You will not be disappointed, but will want to return again!
Review 33:Driving up to the hotel necessitated driving through some very narrow streets. Part of the fun.
Review 34:We had a double room overlooking the town square. Fantastic location. Good restaurant quite good value. Great views from this hotel.
Review 35:Unfortunately our bedroom had no view and was on the square, which was very noisy until the early hours of the morning and the rubbish men came at 6am! On the whole too pricey, particularly if you don't get a room with a view.
Review 36:The view from the hotel restaurant is spectacular! The hotel breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly.
Review 37:The parking situation is just crazy ---customers should be advised correctly beforehand re the situation --I would have left the car down the town and got a taxi up to the hotel --which I did the following day for 4 e ----as on arrival it was just totally mad ---and only because the receptionist was so good I would have walked away ---I was not impressed at all and it did not help that it took me over an hour to park up after a two hour drive from my home near Malaga---just not acceptable ---under no circumstances would I recommend the hotel because of the parking problem--also on my booking I requested a room with a view and was given a room overlooking the car park --lovely room but not what I wanted --and then having to change after all the parking problems did not make me at all happy and then having to pay extra for a room --I should have been advised beforehand ---NO not impressed ----
Review 38:The location of the hotel --the view from the room --the food also good --The help from the receptionist ANGELUS --fantastic young lady --so helpful ---
Review 39:As a highly recommended establishment I was disappointed that no one at the hotel.spoke sufficient English. Fortuneatly, at reception a fellow guest was able to explain the challenges with parking in the square, otherwise our stay might have been compromised by parking fines.
Review 40:This was our first experience staying in a Parador. Even though the receptionist did not speak English very well, she made us feel most welcome. She had been working Paradors for many decades. She was a delightful soul who loved her work.
Review 41:There is not very much to see and do in Arcos de la Frontera. and with the one way narrow narrow streets and difficulty finding parking, once there we stayed there.
Review 42:The views from any window were spectacular. Very good restaurants in the area.
Review 43:The hotel is fantastically located but, if you're driving, hard to get to (esp if you normally drive on the LHS of the road) as you need to drive there through a maze of very narrow cobbled streets often line on the walls with tourists. When we did get to the carpark, the park was very full and the attendant not particularly friendly and who spoke not a word of English.
Review 44:We were offered an upgrade to the room with the best view of the limestone cliffs and surroundings. There are a number of rooms with a great view but this particular room is the only one with a view back to the town as well. The increased tariff was reasonable (and so was the original tariff, but note that we were in the shoulder period) for the superb view.
Review 45:Having to €17 extra for breakfast. How awkward the parking was at the Parador
Review 46:Location was wonderful. The staff were very nice. Arcos is a lovely town and I like the choice of restaurants in close proximity The narrow streets and lovely buildings
Review 47:Nothing
Review 48:The Parador is situated in the main city square, high on the edge of a cliff over looking the river valley. Fabulous location, excellent staff. Several restaurants and bars around the area. Suitable for walking.
Review 49:We had to come downstairs by the little computer room to get internet connection
Review 50:Staff was very helpful in giving us directions to Jerez to see the equestrian school
Review 51:We found the formal restaurant service closed (since 2 years, apparently), with just a cafetaria left. Food was nice all the same. Suggestions: 1. Switch breakfast room and cafetaria room - makes for the evening meal wt the best location 2. Equip the rooms for self-service coffee & tea making (as customary in many hotels etc in other countries)
Review 52:Location, comfort and helpful & friendly staff. Nice room with spacious balcony
Review 53:Place needs a tlc update. Bit tired...air conditionig. Didn't work, and staff looked unconcerned.
Review 54:Location,traditional village...far from mutitude of tourists...relax sit back in a outdoor tapas cafe".watch local scene...
Review 55:challenging drive to the hotel thru narrow streets
Review 56:great location - we had a great room overlooking the countryside and the old church breakfast is pricey, but outstanding.
Review 57:Driving through the small streets and parking is a challenge.
Review 58:Great location, great views, stately building, large bedroom and bathroom.
Review 59:Dated
Review 60:Location
Review 61:Lovely stay, staff friendly and helpful
Review 62:Dinner was terrible, food was not well prepared.
Review 63:Excellent hotel with the most stunning views.
Review 64:The location and views are fantastic. Good for a one night stopover.
Review 65:perfect location in this fantastic setting
Review 66:The facilities.
Review 67:The location
Review 68:Moldy smell
Review 69:Balcony Restaurant
Review 70:Hotel is a little tired
Review 71:Its all about the location the town and the view
Review 72:Stunning views of the countryside, friendly staff, unique and historical setting.
Review 73:Evening meal was very disappointing and poor value - a shame.
Review 74:Location was breathtaking. Perfect position. Many staff were very helpul.
Review 75:Breakfast was not included and the price was expensive .
Review 76:The location, the view and the decor!
Review 77:No control of air conditioning (too bad if you like it at night!) Some of the staff not very responsive to demands.
Review 78:The staff had a crib in the room when we arrived and adored our son! Thank you for the warm welcome and night stay!
Review 79:Not enough room in the bar restaurant food mediocre
Review 80:The spaish feel the balcony and the view to die for
Review 81:This hotel has a simply stunning view. It is relatively small and quiet and traditionally Spanish. If you get chance stay in room 17.
Review 82:Views from your balcony room, in particular room number 9 , best in hotel. Location of hotel in the old city
Review 83:Difficult access by car.
Review 84:Very nice location with excellent view and food for dinner.
Review 85:Loved the wind howling up from the valley below.
Review 86:It was warm in the room and we could not open the windows and the air conditioning would not come on.
Review 87:The location was excellent and so was the staff.
Review 88:Pretty narrow street to reach the hotel.
Review 89:The great view, the location, the small size of this parador.
Review 90:The computor in the lobby was a disaster.
Review 91:The staff was very very friendly. the room very comfortable. The food was good. It is a very beautiful hotel
Review 92:Too expensive, not worth its money
Review 93:Very nice view
Review 94:Hard to get to, not enough to see and do once there
Review 95:Building
Review 96:The hotel felt either very quiet or a little dead not sure which. A little music in the bar at night might be a good idea.
Review 97:Location and views from the bedrooms excellent. The receptionist was kind enough to look for us at the car park when the house keeper found some items left behind in the room.
Review 98:Little pricey and wifi is only in common areas. Other than that it was amazing!
Review 99:Location, location, location. Beautifully perched on the cliffs edge, standing on the edge of the balcony makes you a little dizzy. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Review 100:The access to the hotel is through some very narrow lanes so could be quite a problem if you are driving a big car. There is parking in the square outside the hotel but is usually full so you have to wait till somebody leaves in order to park in his place. The restaurant is rather dull and although the view from the balcony is superb the view when you dine inside is unremarkable. It seems that nobody was using it for dinner during our stay and everybody preferred tapas in the bar. Price was high compared to similar hotels in the area for mid may that we have stayed
Review 101:The location is excellent, the view was magnificent and the room clean and spacious. The breakfast was plentiful but overprized
Review 102:Run down ambience.
Review 103:I had read great things about this parador so was disappointed to find it so run down and tired. The town also had a very run down feel about it presumably because it is not on the main tourist route. However the dinner and breakfast was surprisingly good.
Review 104:Unaware of the parking limitations. Staff could support this for guests (pay the mete). True full/queen beds.
Review 105:The style of property, of course the exquisite view, and staff was quite good. Breakfast was outstanding.
Review 106:The scary drive through streets to get to hotel car park and the even scarier drive out of town down those tiny streets.
Review 107:The amazing views from the terrace and the relaxed atmosphere.
Review 108:Hard to find, parking tricky on the square which was also charged for - but hotel organised a parking ticket. Driving in the old town is hair-raising as streets so narrow.
Review 109:The view and position in the old town
Review 110:Car parking is a bit unpredictable although we were fortunate on our visit. We requested a room with double bed but this meant no view but a jacuzzi which we didn't want. The room was at the very back of the building and quite dark.
Review 111:The whole ambience which would be even better in warm weather. The cafe and restaurant offered good service and were well patronised. The buffet breakfast was very good.
Review 112:Beautiful, romantic parador in a beautiful, romantic town. Our room had a fabulous view on the cliff overlooking the valley and the mountains beyond. Excellent food and service.
Review 113:Location and views were great. Make sure you check out the owls and birds of prey in the square next door. Lots of nearby restaurants (with English menus). Staff helpful with finding parking (which is extremely limited)
Review 114:Driving to the Hotel is horrible and parking is a difficulty.
Review 115:The location is fantastic…and the flavor of Spain is evident in all of the Paradores we have visited.
Review 116:Hotel is a bit seedy, but that is part of its history and charm. Nevertheless, priced much more highly than a similar room in more luxurious Ronda parador. Beds were very hard and uncomfortable.
Review 117:Staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Our room had a roomy balcony with a stunning view over Plaza de la Cabilda (lots of activity) and the gorgeous valley, perfect for long sunset sits. Whole atmosphere of the old town is casual and charming.
Review 118:The plaza can be really busy during day-time and it's hard to find parking-spaces (there are people to help) and getting there through super-narrow old-town-streets was a real hassle, but it's worth it.
Review 119:Location of the hotel is superb and the views are breathtaking. The staff was super-friendly and our rooms were spacious and stylish, really loved it!
Review 120:The double bed was rather small. It was a pity we could not get a (quiet) room at the back side with the lovely view.
Review 121:It is a very authentic place to stay with a stunning view. The drive up to the Parador is also quite exciting.
Review 122:No hotel parking. Yet, we were lucky and were able to park just in front of the hotel.
Review 123:After an upgrade of 35 €, we probably had the nicest room with the best view in all of Arcos. This is a "real hotel" - a Parador no less - and not one of the many hotel which only look good on the internet. --- You might also want to try the restaurant for tapas and another great view.
Review 124:Driving up through the tiny twisting roads was scary and parking in the square outside is scare. Be sure to buy a parking permit when you check in! We saw the wardens giving tickets out. It's worth paying the €4 if you manage to get a space!
Review 125:Amazing view from the patio. Lots of nice restaurants near by to choose from. Gorgeous location.
Review 126:We were touring in a 9 passenger Citron van. Needed it for 6 passengers and 2 Wks. luggage. After trying for 2 hours to get up the hill we did park at a meter about half way up the hill. Our driver wanted to remove the mirrors but it would have been a hassle.Any body driving up the hill better know what he is doing if they are driving a full size vehicle.
Review 127:we had stayed at Arcos in 1990 with our family and this time was with our family and our families family.we had the same good service and would recommend it to anyone.
Review 128:Access to the hotel by car was very narrow with a slighly big car. The capacity of the airconditioning was limited. Was running at max capacity, but didn't manage to get the room temp down to an acceptable level during the night.
Review 129:The room was nice and spacious. The outdoor restaurant had a very good view
Review 130:Maybe a minor problem, but there is a parking problem.
Review 131:As you may expect from a Parador, the stay was excellent. Location in the centre of the old city. Views all over and the room comfortable and clean.
