Reviews for Original Sokos Hotel Viru
Review 1:No business center; if you do not have a computer, you must pay to use ones near the bar area, which can be quite noisy.
Review 2:Wonderful location a short walk from Old Town. Connection to a shopping center makes getting food and essentials very easy. Fairly good work environment. Rooms that are facing the Gulf of Finland have a superb view of Old Town and of the water.
Review 3:Would have liked an egg station at the breakfast buffet where omelettes could be made to order
Review 4:Location right next to Old Town Gate Great view of harbour front, request a high floor Attached to shopping centre with several pubs, coffee shops and restaurants available
Review 5:Location is perfect, rooms clean, wi-fi good. I've arrived before the check in time, but my room was already ready. View from upper floor rooms a fabulous.
Review 6:Obviously need of renovation of rooms, bathrooms,ac and etc. Product is not new therefore rates should be reviewed. Especially high categories like I've booked.
Review 7:Location is perfect and staff is friendly.
Review 8:I was there on my honeymoon,I got married a day before our stay and i had asked for a top floor, and for my disappointment our friends got top floor and we were underneath them. Didnt get anything extra for our honeymoon as any other place we stayed during our honeymoon we got upgrades and so on. Unfortunately we will think twice before we stay there again!
Review 9:Liked the Breakfast
Review 10:This was the dirtiest hotel we ever lived. We stayed in a family room. On the floor there was a strong smell of smoking. And in our room there was a lot of hairs in a bathtub and a thick layer of dust all around. My request to clean at least the bathtub was ignored.
Review 11:Location and the view are great.
Review 12:The style of room is not good, wardrope is narrow and doesn't has cover, shower section is very narrow, (I couldn't understand this kind of scandinavian style room) housekeeper doesn' t clean the room well, while checking time, recepcionist behavior is crude and didn't give me room as I asked before ( the day after girl recepcionist changed my room to front side and high floor)
Review 13:Wireless, breakfast,
Review 14:There's a nightclub in the hotel so might be noisy at weekend Coach parties checking-in created long queues for lift and reception.
Review 15:Location was amazing Good helpful staff History - it was the first international hotel in Tallinn.
Review 16:The rooms are a bit small but that is not really a problem. The hotel does show its age even though it is well maintained. The only real issue is the price, it is a bit steep for what it offers concerning other options nearby
Review 17:The most comfortable bed I ever slept in, great view, perfect location, good wifi with mostly OK coverage, varied breakfast with a lot of options
Review 19:Room was uncomfortable and hot. The staff never fixed the temperature problem although it was requested. The bed was not comfortable.
Review 20:Location is excellent and everything is clean and average.
Review 21:Facilities could be better (shower in particular). Breakfast while had a diversity of dishes, could be better if there was more space in the dining room (sometimes had to wait for a free table, though this could be due to New Year).
Review 22:The location is close to the city center. Pricing is average. Helpful staff.
Review 23:A very very minor concern - there was no drinking water in the room. It is possible to buy it in the mall, which is right in the same building, but upon arrival sometimes one wants to drink a bit of water right away. A bottle of water in mini bar was too pricy and ice cold.
Review 24:I got a toon on the 21st floor with a view over the sea and old city. It was amazing. The bed was comfortable. Although the building is old, the rooms are in very good condition, recently renovated. Wifi worked fast enough. Breakfast is luxurious - great choice with a possibility to try specific local tastes. Taxi from airport - 7 minutes, less than 9euro.
Review 25:View from floor 5 was over looking a roof. Try and get a room over looking the front of the hotel.
Review 26:The location is perfect, right next to the old town. Rooms are big and clean. Its quiet and friendly. We had a group of 8 lads and they were happy with a group.
Review 27:Breakfast room interior was a bit uncowsy, reminded about sthing at a railwaystation. Food ok, but tired people almost or fully asleep on sofas.
Review 28:Easy access, very good location next to old town and all the restaurants. Also not that far away from harbour. WiFi works well, easy to access and covers all parts of hotel. Good parking, though very expensive.
Review 29:-really smelled of smoke periodically (staff very responsive to complaints)
Review 30:-views of the harbour esp. from the upper floors; location (attached to a mall, across the street from amazing areas such as the old town, close to the airport and ferry terminals); VERY helpful, English speaking staff
Review 31:LONG line at the front desk. There was only one staff member at the desk at 2-3pm in the afternoon! There were only a few people in front of us but it took us 30 min to check in - not what you expect for a hotel at this price. Also, 25 min into the wait three staff members appeared from the office behind the desk - they had been there the whole time but apparently didn't mind making their customers wait.
Review 32:The room is very small, you can hardly walk around the bed to the window. My experience tells me that they give the smallest rooms to clients of Booking. Com House keeping is less than fair, when they know you are there for 7 nights, they quit vacuuming floors, one towel less every day , floor towel was never replaced after first day. I have to kill flies every day. At check out at 5:00 am no body at counter, waited about 20:00 minuted to check out that early.
Review 33:Breakfast Buffett is outstanding. Location, next to a mall and grocery store and restaurants in the Mall. Close to port and ferries . Close to buses and Trams.
Review 34:There was some misunderstanding when I tried check in. I had reservation for superior room and I was charged for superior room and I got key for normal room. Changing room was easy and didn't cause any other troubles. KGB museum English language tours are held only in daytime which is not very pleasant for business travelers who liked to see that specialty.
Review 35:Superior room was good value for money when comparing to normal room. Breakfast was good and hotel location is one of the best in the city.
Review 36:Room design is outdetad, ther is no coffee/tea in the room. Breakfast buffet is so-so.
Review 37:Great location just a few steps from the Old city, friendly staff.
Review 38:Very basic room. Paid 20 Euros extra for "upgrade" but difficult to see what the difference was - wouldn't bother next time. Hotel bar seems to attract some local drunks who were annoying
Review 39:Great central location right next to the Old Town. Good bars and restaurant within hotel and only a short walk to bars and restaurants outside hotel
Review 40:We had to ask to have the window opened and the AC adjusted to a cooler temperature but it was done quickly and efficiently.
Review 41:The view of the harbour was excellent. Breakfast was superb. The room was small but adequate & spotless.
Review 42:Hard beds are not confortable! Room service from Amarillo: food was terrible!
Review 43:Situation is perfect. Room was great.
Review 44:Very old Hotel with small room and very used furniture. Room was very hot without temperature regulation possibility.
Review 45:Good position in city centre
Review 46:Great location right next to the old town, also next to shopping centre with supermarket.
Review 47:Expensive parking, chaotic and shabby breakfast room.
Review 48:Location, family room with bunks.
Review 49:Convinient place
Review 50:The staff told ut that is wasn't pool or spa at the hotell, but it was.
Review 51:Clean rooms and Nice breaksfast.
Review 52:At room wasn't a slippers.
Review 53:Was nice wie from window to city.
Review 54:No tea and coffee making facilities in room. Breakfast was far too overcrowded and there was nowhere to sit.
Review 55:Location
Review 56:The location of this hotel is excellent however if you don't likelarge high rise busy hotels this is perhaps not the place for you.
Review 57:Bathroom was not clean. No one time slippers.
Review 58:very small bedrooms, unable to open the windows, noisy air conditioning
Review 59:friendly staff
Review 60:It was very good I enjoyed everything bout the hotel
Review 61:Breakfast omlet made from egg powder.
Review 62:Friendly staff

Review 93:parking fee is too much,
Review 94:Nothing Really.
Review 95:We stayed with a two year old and were given a family room, that had colouring books and pencils and stickers. A nice little touch.
Review 96:Poor quality pillows. No proper shower.you sold too many rooms to the internet
Review 97:I liked everything. One of the best hotel that I stayed. I was in 3 hoteis in Tallim and I am sure is the best.
Review 98:Viru Hotell was as good as always. Staff is friednly and easy going.
Review 99:Reception queues
Review 100:We had to wait at check-in, as just in front of us arrived two buses of guest. Anyway I did not saw such crowd at desk in any hotel until now.
Review 101:Excelent service at desk in the lobby and the Wi-Fi internet.
Review 102:WiFi signal in the room was extremely weak.
Review 103:Very good location, close to the historic center and the harbour. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms
Review 104:Did have time to look for dislikes...
Review 105:cleanliness, bathroom had a jet that is very improtant for Indians, mini bar, club in the hotel, least but not last Hospitality from reception. Look forward to stay in same hotel when in Tallinn, Estonia may be for leisure.
Review 106:Very busy hotel, lobby and the breakfast room often resembled a railway station !
Review 107:Location and the quietness of the rooms. The breakfast was excellent and despite being very busy the staff were quick at restocking the buffet and cleaning the tables.
Review 108:Some rooms are dated and need remodeling (bathroom tile stained and old, etc)
Review 109:Beautifully kept hotel with history, good for parking, even if it is overpriced (20 euros a night) but the hotel does not own the parking, good for pets (10 euros a night), would stay again
Review 110:Bar staff unfriendly and slow lack experience and very expensive + the restaurant is bad value burgers total compacted meat steaks very small will not be back that will include my friends who were with me .
Review 111:Night club + Reception staff friendly +location
Review 112:the break fast is poor little bit and my room was cold and I asked for repair but they could not fix at that time.
Review 113:it's not bad hotel as it's on the center of the city.but
Review 114:Rooms were available at 16 o'clock and they were not cleaned properly. We (grandparents, mother, father and two kids) were sent to the floor to wait in front of the rooms while they were being cleaned.
Review 115:Breakfast is the same all the days of my stay. poor wifi.
Review 116:liked it a lot. locate the hotel 5 +, the presence of shops and shopping mall 5 +, the staff and the service is attentive.
Review 117:quite old building (more symbol of comunism time) exept new corpus. breakfast was just okey - minimum what hotel could offer. at night only 1 elevator is working :-(
Review 118:location next to old town (5 min walking), new bld. corpus (but some rooms are without any view), quite fast crew, connection with a big, modern mall, free wifi
Review 119:there is one sort of coffee included in the breakfast. for cappuccino / latte macchiato the guest should pay extra in the bar. the breakfast area could be a bit more cozy (only big tables for 8 people)
Review 120:the choice at breakfast is good
Review 121:The heating in the room that is not controlable - and the prices of the rooms which have come up quickly since I came first time. Restaurants around the area is also quite exspensive
Review 122:Nice hotel - - old town - feeling safe in the hotel even if i am alone, nice breakfaast - friendly staff - very clean rooms Visiting my son and grandchild WHO lives in Tallinn
Review 123:No tea/coffee making facilities in room.
Review 124:Staff were polite, efficient & professional, nothing was too much trouble. Hotel location was excellent with a varied range of food at breakfast. Taxis constantly available from outside hotel and reasonably priced. Museum in hotel interesting with a knowledgeable and amusing hotel tour guide-well worth the visit.
Review 125:Could not get room temperature below 23.5 C. Too warm for sleeping even with services of a very angry security man. Very abrupt rude baggage man.
Review 126:Good views Reasonable value Comfortable
Review 127:The bed could be firmer.Something happened and I don't know whose fault was it. I booked my hotel through Booking.com and when I was checking out I was asked to pay €200.00, even though my booking.com printed paper sheet is showing €185.00 I told the young receptionist that it was €185.00 and not €200.00. Her computer was showing €200.00. How is that possible, only god he knows? Anyway, she went to a room to fetch a piece of paper and saw €185.00 on it. Fellow travellers, please take with you your booking.com printed paper. Computer is man made and mistake is possible. Whose mistake? Is it Hotel Viru or Booking.com?
Review 128:I first stayed in Viru Hotel in April 1989 or 1990, when the hotel wasnot up to scratch. Anyway, I decided I will try Hotel Viru on my nexttrip to Tallinn and I was not disappointed. The staffs were very friendly and served with a smile, which I personally love. The breakfast room was big and the breakfast was good. Not the fatty stuffs you found in British hotels breakfast. The view from my room 2111 was something to died for. I was seeing all the ships leaving and entering the port. I was seeing everything from my room. The hotel is central and near everything, for example, the opera house (where I visited twice for an opera and an opera musical), shopping centre Viru Keskus and Solaris, the old town, bus, tram, parks and everything else. Yes, I will visit Hotel Viru again.
