Reviews for Kalev Spa Hotel & Waterpark
Review 1:This is a place to choose if you want swimming pool and gym next to your rooms, otherwise very average hotel, a lot of smells in facilities from restaurants and pool.
Review 2:It is quite old Soviet Swimming pool with renovation and built nearby small hotel. On the first floor where we lived was very noisy because of the cars moving all night long on narrow street and because the room was located on the way to the pool. And all people in hotel were moving near our room starting from 7 a m until 10 p m It is not spa hotel. It is swimming hotel.
Review 3:The breakfast was good
Review 4:only one restaurant open
Review 5:very nice and big waterpark just outside hotel room good bed central location you can buy juice etc in the poolbar on your room no. If I come to Tallin again this would be my first choice
Review 6:Could not adjust a temperature in the room. Bed comfort could be better. Water park needs renovation.
Review 7:The location is great. Beautiful view Staff is helpful and welcome
Review 8:The hotel is connected to Public pool, all swimming lane reserved for swimming schools. The distance from the rooms to the pool is too long, going around the building from inside. Room heating didnt work in one room ( maintenance came and did nothing), we have moved to a new room and the safe didnt work.
Review 9:In the very center of Tallinn old city, perfect location. Good value for money.
Review 10:Nothing! I can't fault it at all
Review 11:Great spa, amazing treatments! Breakfast was good and till 11am Location excellent, 5 minutes to old town, 5 minutes to bars and shopping centre
Review 12:Spa option on city holiday is great. And basically at the old town. All the wellness and beauty treatmensts are under same roof so it is easy to plan wellness shopping holiday trip.
Review 13:It was not possible to order eggs sunny side up.. My question to that effect was answered in a very impolite manner.
Review 14:Swimming pool and facilities although most of the time the big pool was allocated to special training classes..
Review 15:Lack of parking spots by the hotel, and parking costs a lot - 15 EUR/day is way too much! We were using Admiral parking instead (7 min away from the hotel, at the price of only 5 EUR/day). We we staying with our kid, and the guy at the reception gave us bath robe and additional towels for the kid when we checked in, but cleaning maid took them away on the first morning and never replaced them. The staff at the breakfast room was not very friendly. The breakfast is served until 11 am, once at 10.50 am there were no hot water for the tea, and when we asked to refill the tank, the waitress in quite unpleasant manner refused to did it claiming the breakfast is over! It was very disappointing.
Review 16:Very good SPA and wellness centre - used to visit it twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Variety of swimming pools, different in size and temperature of water. Room was clean and good (but could be slightly larger actually). Good breakfast. Great location, very central, suitable for walking around old town.
Review 17:Firstly, we have to walk around the city for 2 hours before the accomodation, regarding the request for early check-in. But they have their own luggage storage and it's free. There was too cold in our room. We turned the radiator to the maximum, but it didn't help. It seems like the windows have cracks, so a lot of cold air enters the room. The room wasn't very clean, gross stuff under the bed, black dust on horisontal surfaces. They've changed the towels, that we left on the floor of the bathroom, but each day this new towel became smaller and smaller...Also, about bathroom. Horrible drier from the 80-s with a huge hole in his hose. I think, i will post a picture with this thing, you need to see it. Water pressure in the shower was horrible too. If you have a lot of hair, you will have a lot of problems trying to wash out the shampoo from your hair with this water pressure. Also, the "handle" in the shower is SO sensitive, that it have to programs - freezing cold or burning hot. And, with a very weak water pressure, you can't walk far enough from the wall (where of course is located it's handle), so you hit the handle with you back all the time. The administration staff was very polite, but not very friendly, to be honest. It was the first time, when no one helped me with the tour booking, they just said that they don't do this stuff. What? Really? One a little bit more friendly administrator told me, that "probably they couldn't help you, because there were a lot of other clients and a lot of other more important work to do". What can be more important than to help your clients? The Spa is working only until 8 p.m., which is very inconvenient. If you're walking around the city in tours, you usually come back at smth like 8 or 9 p.m. So, I didn't have the opportunity to visit the Spa.One more "amazing" thing. There was no Wifi in our room.
Review 18:Location of the hotel is perfect. It took us 10-15 min. to get to the tourist information center (a lot of tours start there), there is a huge mall Viru Keskus in smth about 10 min. walk from the hotel. Also the hotel is located near the park, so if you're lucky, you will have the beautiful view from the window. The breakfast is good, quite diverse, but still it can be better. There were all ingridients for english breacfast, several types of cheese and ham, 2 types of yoghurt, 3 types of cereals, tee and coffee, bread, several buns. It was very tasty. The canteen opens at 7 a.m, and that's very convenient. The staff is multi-language speaking. My friend visited their pool and sauna, she said it's good, but there was no staff there to talk to if she had some problem.
Review 19:Hotel doesn't provide free parking, you can park the car near hotel for 15eur. Pool footwear had to buy. Hairdryer wasn't good.
Review 20:Pool was great. Breakfast good.
Review 21:Loud noise from cars from the street. I doubt having a room higher up in the hotel would make a change.
Review 22:Great location, pool for swimming, good vegetarian options for breakfast.
Review 23:The rooms was very basic, not very comfortable.
Review 24:The thermal suites were fantastic! It was only a 5 minute walk to the old town square, 15 min to the port, very central.
Review 25:-Laundry service expensive. -No iron and board in the room. -Spa was basically a public swimming hall.
Review 26:+Late breakfast till 11 am. +Very nice and multilanguage staff. +Very clean and fresh rooms.
Review 27:- lack of parking place - lack of coffee maker on breakfast - room from the street - lack of air conditioner so when we open the window...TERIBBLE NOISE! made by cars and people -
Review 28:- access to waterpark - proximity of the old town
Review 29:- The walk from the room to the pool can take quite a while if you're in a far-away wing. - The staff couldn't give comprehensive information about the location and duration of the daily water gymnastics class in advance (it happens at 9.30am every morning, takes 30 mins and is free for all - just turn up at the small pool that's behind the jacuzzi pool). - The room was in need of a few small repairs (bathroom window couldn't be closed properly, the hood cover in the bathroom was nearly falling off).
Review 30:+ The water park is great, with a good choice of pools for kids as well. + Breakfast selection is perfectly adequate. + Hotel's location is great for walks to the Old Town. + The hotel's restaurant Linda provides unique views over the Olympic-size pool.
Review 31:if your room faces the outdoor bubble bath of other hotel, you have pretty invasive pop music awakening you and guiding you into late evening.
Review 32:Perfectly situated at edge of old town near train station, harbor. Great for swim (olympic pool, open for local population as well), sauna etc...
Review 33:Personal (receptionist), equipment of the room on first floor, noisy andsmall room, low ceiling. Bad windows, noise from the street, bad doors, noise from the corridor. I recommend to refuse room Nr. 123. Side by thedoors to water park. You will hear every single opening and closing ofthose doors. Very bad connection to internet through existing WiFi.Receptionist gave us this room, even the hotel was half empty... Justbecause of I did not gave Him my email and phone, because all those infois on Booking saved already... I am disappointed, even the location nearby the centrum is ok.
Review 34:Location, water park, breakfast
Review 35:Couldn't find the stairs so had to always take the lift between floors. Wifi didn't work in the bedroom.
Review 36:Located on the edge of the Old Town and within walking distance of the Port. We took advantage of the Spa treatments which was fun. My daughter had a massage and I had a facial - the therapist was excellent. The hotel is built around the swimming pool. Fantastic gym - large and well equipped.
Review 37:room temperature was too warm, air-condition was not strong enough and not adjustable. According to the receptionist, he told us that bathtub is only available in suite but not for other room types, inaccurate information provided in their website.
Review 38:location, water-park
Review 39:Since it is a hotel with a big pool everything kind of smells like chlorine (which is better than if it wouldn't) and you can not drink the water out of the tub
Review 40:I booked Kalev Spa before reading the evaluations. When I read them I wondered if I need to regret my decision because people wrote negative statements about cleanliness and the waterpark and that WLAN would only be accessible in the lobby. It turned out that it wasn't true. The hotel is clean and really central (you can walk to almost everywhere in 30 minutes), the staff is helpful and friendly, WLAN is accessible from everywhere (we were on the highest floor), breakfast has everything you could ask for and you have free access to a big pool with three slides and a big gym. Everything is not super high class but more than perfectly fine! So if you are not the 5 star kind of person you will definitely not regret to stay here.
Review 41:The check-in is the same place as the bar, only one person at work when I came, and the bar queue was long. The breakfast is a joke, I ate there the first morning, but never again. In old town there is a cafe called Maiasmokk. Go there instead. I ate dinner once at the hotel. It was just a dissapointment as the breakfast.
Review 42:Location, Swimmingpool, Gym
Review 43:Breakfast - youth camp standard. Noise from the street. Our rooms were toward the street and the noise from the cars kept us awake until 3 am.
Review 44:The pool area was good, also the spa.
Review 45:Yes, the noise. It was quite noisy, as my room was on floor 1. Maybe, it was best offer for the price. But I could hear people laughing and even singing songs (on Monday! night). Well, one could complain about some other things. But it was much more positive than negative.
Review 46:The pool and the waterzone! I am a swimmer and I went for long swims, it was really cool! It's the first hotel with a pool that size I was staying. I liked the personnel, mostly they were quite friendly and helpful. Especially the man at the reception (sorry, don't remember his name, but he was the best employee in 2014). The breakfast was just everything you need. And the LOCATION! It is just in the old town! Very convenient
Review 47:The room could have been a bit cleaner... There was some trash on the floor... WiFi did not work properly.
Review 48:The location near the Old Town is great. The swimming facilities are also great!
Review 49:The ugly carpet but it was clean, so it's fine.
Review 50:I absolutely LOVED the breakfast (steamed scrambled eggs, potato salad, the egg butter, the freshly made bread)... buffet but so much choice. I LOVED the 50m pool and its wide lanes. I also used the infrared sauna post workouts at the massive gym.
Review 51:The wifi didn't work in the room, the waterpark wasn't really a waterpark, more a swimming pool with a couple of slides. Based on that I don't think i would have booked the hotel again unless it was much cheaper.
Review 52:the staff were very friendly and polite. When we realised the amount we were paying was quite high for the room we booked they upgraded us. However the room we upgraded to was what I would have expected anyway so i didn't feel we had really benefited. the location was good.
Review 53:- the bed took up the largest part of the room and when you take a shower you flood the bathroom because there is no closed shower Partition - don't leave your empty bottles with refundable deposite in the room when it is cleaned, because they will disappear...
Review 54:- good location right outside the city wall, 15 minutes by foot from the ferry habour, 10 minutes to the airport bus - the spa can be reached without leaving the house and a bathrobe will wait for you in your room - great 50m pool, three whirlpools and a sauna and steamroom (open until 9.30pm)
Review 55:Family room was really small. It's a spa hotel but it's really hard to navigate from the hotel facility to SPA area. Hotel is located in city center and it's relatively noisy during the night. Parking is ridiculously overpriced (€20 per night).
Review 56:Staff was nice and room was clean and freshly renovated. Breakfast was really good with plenty of choices,
Review 57:I am really dissapointed of this hotel! It doesn't worth of 4 stars! Staff are cold and careless, rooms are dirty, facilities are crowded and leaving for you feeling that nobody actually cares that you are the guest and you paid not small money for stay! Seriously poor and ugly breakfast (I've ate in 3 stars hotels even better). This hotel need serious changes and in first line they must low the price and take one star off! Totally angry!
Review 58:They forgot baby bed, even if it was ordered in advance. When we mentioned it on morning, they thought it's nothing serious.
Review 59:They where able to check-in us fast during the night.
Review 60:Lot of traffic and noise in front of our room (123). Also in the night. Avoid this room because everyone is using the door in front of it (to smoke I guess).
Review 61:Location was perfect and spa was also really good.
Review 62:wi fi is not working on 4th floor, there are no small creams or conditioners. usually in 4 stars there are. especially when they have a spa zone or pools and saunas
Review 63:breakfast is very delicious, the room comfy and clean, the pool and sauna is very good
Review 64:Albeit it seemed newly renovated (labels still on the loo lid and seat), even a very short shower left the entire bathroom floor flooded - the water ran away from the drainhole ! The bathroom also already had a strange odour, and there was a permeating chlorine smell in the corridors. Also, the room (2nd floor) was a bit noisy - street noise.
Review 65:Super location. The room was modern and clean, and had a nice layout, lighting, and sufficient electrical outlets. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to test any of the swimming hall, etc. facilities & services.
Review 66:Cleaning is worse than average. We booked an economy double room and asked for upper floor rooms. We received a confirmation from bookin.com saying that availability of an upper floor room depends on check-in time and this was fine! When we arrived to the hotel, receptionist told that economy rooms are on the 1st floor and for upper floors we were told that we need to pay 20€ per night extra. We should have been informed about this beforehand!! Rooms need refurbishment
Review 67:Location is good. Breakfast is not bad.
Review 68:I had room 116. Very noisy (bad windows), so street noices come through. Bed needs replacement, worn-out matrass, WIFI drops off all the time, Finnish TV channels do not work properly. Arrogant front desk. Breakfast not having many options.
Review 69:Swimming facilities
Review 70:Too close to the street: just in case take earplugs with You - in rooms on 1st and 2nd floor for sure You will need them. Small carpark - You might not get a space for Your car if You arrive leter. The receptionist recommended me some carpark 500 m from the hotel (with my suitcases and suits it was a kind of problem) - I found one myslef just near the hotel - belong to the BRAVO hotel & gym - only 50 m from the hotel (10 € /24h).
Review 71:Location next to old city is excellent, 5-10 minutes walk to the city hall and market square. Very good price quality ratio, with very reasonable price you get a nice room plus possiblity to use the spa and very good gym. Also breakfast was nice
Review 72:Most of the staff were rude, small room and dirty bathroom /shower area, the breakfast was not good (mostly the scrambled eggs were gross). Overall I think we would returm though because we enjoyed the pool facilities with our little one.
Review 73:We loved the pool and fitness facilities, the close proximity to the Old town and the ferries.
Review 74:The bed was a bit too soft to our liking. Breakfast was OK but could have had a bit mre variation (e.g. more fresh fruit).
Review 75:Superb location; sights in the Old Town are all within walking distance. The spa is especially recommended - it has good facilities for everyone! Staff were very nice and helpful and the free WiFi was fast and reliable.
Review 76:Hair dryer was not comfortable. Temperature in the room was quite chilly. There is no slippers for going to swimming pool place.
Review 77:Swimming pool (opened from 7.00 a.m. to 21.00) was excellent! Good that there was dressing gown in the room for all guests.
Review 78:Rooms of the first floor are located around the pool and spa zone - rather noisy at daytime. Some rooms of the second floor are in front of vip saunas - noisy too. Evenings are quiet.
Review 79:Perfect location, nice rooms, good breakfasts and dinners, well equipped gym, 50 m swimming pool, sauna. The best place for active people how prefer to combine sports and walking in Old Town.
Review 80:Our room was quite small, but otherwise comfortable. Breakfast was ok, but not very impressive: a wide choice but poor quality (for example, scrambled eggs from powder did not look appetizing at all)
Review 81:Waterpark (easy access from the room), value for money, friendly staff
Review 82:old sauna and busy swimming pool at noon time. 80%space was occupied by chiildren
Review 83:Good breakfast, limited dinner - buffet. Good gymroom, 50m swimming pool.
Review 84:Room close to road (noisy)on lowest floor, we were asked about silent room in higher level. Both wishes not done, that why negative.
Review 85:Good location, nice stuff in restaurant, free pools
Review 86:If you are on a business trip, it will not suit you at all. The room doesn''t have a desk where you actually can work. Internet is poor and drops out from the network every 2 minutes. Since it's a family hotel, there lots of noisy children, running and playing around, it's hard to concentrate. Breakfast was nothing to choose from. Too budget.
Review 87:Location is good, near the Old Town.
Review 88:Room was next to the buffet, the smell of food was all around. No conditioning and hotel is next to a big road, so no open windows due to noise. At sunday between 10-11 some construction works were performed ruining whole morning. WiFi slow and connection disappears all the time. Did not managed to get into the pool area due to the system malfunction... Never again, I'd rather pay more for nearby Tallink hotel, than stay any other time again here.
Review 89:In city centre and this was the only positive thing.
Review 90:Great location within walking distance of the port and ideal for visiting the old town. Friendly, welcoming staff. Outstanding pool/gym area, but unfortunately we didn't find the opportunity to benefit from these.
Review 91:Great location, only a few mins walk to the centre of tallinn! The water park is fantastic, and whilst the room was only very basic, it was comfortable and everything we needed. Breakfast was nice!
Review 92:Book a bigger room so we could get a spare bed in the bedroom and when I got there the hotel had no bigger rooms and our kids had to sleep with us and we got no discount and still paid the same price and the excuse was the hotel was "full". The breakfast is absolutely horrible!
Review 93:Pools were large and children liked that.
Review 94:Very uncomfortable maintenance works, in the end they offer me a champagne and good fresh fruits to compensate. Internet free, slow, and always falling down. Room really small.
Review 95:Location, staff, view with balcony, 30% discount makes me try it. Breakfast limited but fresh. Refrigerator, safe.
Review 96:The rooms wasn't clean and we had to ask for soap. Old shaver in the shower. The breakfast was just ok. The hot food wasn't hot and most of the food was quiet dry. This is not a 4-star hotel.
Review 97:The location was good and the pool area was nice but the hottub wasn't hot.
Review 98:When booking the hotel I was looking for something nice where I could relax in the evening together with my 3 year old child and go for a business meeting in the morning. KalevSpa, 4 stars hotel, sounded really good and looked OK in the pictures. So I booked a "SPA" room, which had to be more comfortable than a regular one. It was a bigger room in fact, with 2 bathrobes, a dirty bathroom, a hairdryer from the stone age, no tea-kettle to have a cup of tea after going to SPA "facilities" of the hotel and basically nothing else, not even extra towels which might be needed for going to SPA. To go to the swimming pool from the 3d floor of the hotel takes some time too and feels like getting through a labirint ;-). But finally you are there to enjoy! There is a really good swimming pool. There is one little pool for small kids. At the end of the day when we came there it was very dirty and cold in that little pool. Though, I should admit, my child really liked it, some hundreds meters away there are some regular jacuzzies and several saunas, absolutely nothing special. Changing room is far away and the showers are not good as well. There is a big chance you or your kid gets cold. Once you are back to you room, you can go and stand under the warm shower, hopefully your shower is fixed well on the wall ;-). Since there is no tea-kettle in the room but there is a big necessity of your body to increase its temperature, you should get out of the room to find somethere a cup of tea. Luckily there was a restaurant on the floor next to my room so I could go there and buy so wanted hot tea. At the end of this little story, I want to mention that reception of the hotel is very indifferent and totally not a guest-friendly. But the good news we survived ;-)!!!! Would I advice this hotel to someone I know? NO! (Unless the rest is even worse but you must stay somethere in Tallinn).
Review 99:The hotel is located near by the Old Center of the town.
Review 100:My room had a central heating system that cannot be controlled, and it was often too hot. The room had lighting from outside and It could not be completely dark. Nights weren't too pleasant.
Review 101:The location, wifi access, and amenities
Review 102:Worn and old pool facilities. Pools were more for families. Not propee spa pools and saunas. Simple, but fair breakfast.
Review 103:Nice location and nice selection of apa treatments.
Review 104:Renovation at the hotel. No prior information on swimming contest during our stay (so that we could have planned our schedule to avoid that time in the spa, which was half closed)
Review 105:Great location, water park included, breakfast ok, we got 4 person room even though we had paid for two person room + extra bed.
Review 106:Shower was broken (we could not fix handle on top) so wash a head with long hairs was a real problem, we said about it at the reception, got the answer that next morning a master repairs it but for 5 days nobody visited us. A cleaner ignored the hotel notice about no changing the towels if it is located at battery and every time did it, it was fun =( The bath room was wet every time because the shower did not separate from other part of the room The doubled beds were unsuitable for young pair We had lived at first floor and every time closed the curtains but a cleaner every time opened them (evidently, everybody can see our room from the street )
Review 107:Very good location, near with old town, suitable to discover the city. Breakfast was very nice, we never were hungry, a lot of chairs, attentive staff. The room (simplest) was not small. Good communication with water park
Review 108:* Hairdryer. It pretty simple and fixed. Take own with yourself if you really need to make a hair styling. * Hard to call in by phone on check-out & check-in hours. Just call after 5PM. * Be careful in shower. In our room it was very easy to accidently get a wet floor in all bathroom
Review 109:* A water park itself and unlimited access while it opened. * Hotel location just perfect - few minutes walking and you are in old city * Stuff helps with every question * Electric teapot with cups in room + large grocery shop in 150m away
Review 110:If you are a serious swimmer then you need to be aware that local swimming clubs take up all the swimming lanes on several evenings.
Review 111:Comfortable clean room, pleasant staff. Excellent location right on the edge of the old town and not far to the ferries to Helsinki. The hotel is part of the large swimming complex and the hotel provides nice robes so you can go directly to the pool. The complex has several pools as well as hydroslides.
Review 112:rooms near restaurant, poor breakfast (only cheese & tomato was eatable for me), loud surroundings during nights (no air-condition, open window is a must), few TV canals.
Review 113:good location, big pool, big clean room
Review 114:We stayed only one night but we enjoyed it a lot. We loved the spa and gym. 50m pool was almost empty and the temperature of the watter was good. Breakfast were normal - good. The hotel was pretty close to the city center, but far enough to be in quiet location.
Review 115:A little far away from old town but is also ok by walk, not much choice for breakfast...
Review 116:Good service, warmly reception, near to wharf, free for swimming pool, very good wifi...
Review 117:Really bad WiFi signal in the room. No flexibility at all at the check-in/ check-out time.
Review 118:Comfortable room. Great bed, great sleep. Nice swimming pool. Good breakfast.
Review 119:wifi kept asking me to sign on repeatedly, and the chair in the room was not comfortable for long sessions at the desk, which I unfortunately needed. Just realised I should've asked for another one. Duh.
Review 120:pools, saunas, bathrobes, showers, wifi and location near old city and other useful routes and 24hr cafe/bar and regular fresh towels every day as you tend to use them lots between pools and sauna and such. A breakfast pack for my early morning flight out. Great place and I do want to go back.
Review 121:the service could be improved, normaly it is not the best of kindness the breakfast is basic; the price could be cheaper
Review 122:the sport facilities; the proximity to the old town and the Linda harbour; Wi-Fi was excellent
Review 123:They have No Air Conditioning At All in the "Basic" rooms so I had to upgrade for an additional E 25 per night to a larger, nicer room that had Air Conditioning, which was critical in the summer heat! There was no mention whatsoever about the lack of A/C on their website nor on booking.com. The staff was friendly enough but not super helpful, and the morning buffet eggs were obviously powdered as they came in a huge "block". Aside from this I was very non-plussed that the gymnasium was partially closed as I Very Specifically Asked About That before I made my booking since there was a mention on the website, and I was told in No Uncertain Terms that the gym was and would be "Fully Open." Only Half the gym was open so I was still able to get a workout, but many machine options were not available.
Review 124:This place was really an unexpected surprise. Aside from half the gym being closed and the A/C being non-existent in my initial booking, I have to say the location was great, the gym was still usable, the waterslides were a genuine joy (I am an adult who loves waterslides), and they even had a "pro shop" to buy protein powder and protein bars, etc, in the facility. Also the internet had a wall-cable option which is always 10 times faster and more reliable for WiFi, so I even extended my stay because it turned out to be the best internet I had found in all my European Travels. Tallinn turned out to be quite a nice town, with some good clubs on the weekend. Everything was within walking distance, or a very short taxi ride.
Review 125:Wifi really barely works in the rooms. Breakfast is mediocre, not bad, but not great either. Bacon especially greasy and seemingly cheap instead of nice and crispy. Air condition in the rooms would be a plus!
Review 126:Excellent location. It is nice to spend some time in a pool after a hot day. Everything was in an ok condition.
Review 127:1. The rooms: we had to change the room due to the noise produced by the water park pomps that even from the 4 floor were perceved. The noise level wa reaching 50 db and imagine how we manage to "sleep" during first night. After discussion with several reception people, they finaly recognised that the noise is there and we received another room. Next morning surprize, the room was close to the restaurant and at 7/7:30 the noise of trais and plates was like an alarm- at least we got 7 hours of sleep. About the room - no carpet on the floor and the floor is very slepery when wet. Be carefull with the kids!! The breakfest medium to low and for a 4* hotel i whould expect to see butter not margerine!! Even in bulgaria at a 3* hotel you have butter. Clearly a family with kids hotel as at 8/8:30 all the kids from the same floor would start playing on the hallway and yell like crazy.
Review 128:The water park is very nice. Well positioned in the old town.
