Reviews for Hotel Schloss Waldeck

Review 1:WIFI reception was intermittent at best.

Review 2:Superb accommodations! Excellent views from the balcony. The room was a marvelous blend of ultra-modern comfort and a sense of bygone days.

Review 3:Smokers at the hotel entrance. The main restaurant looked nice but pricey and had limited choice. The smaller restaurant was closed in the evening. However, nearby hotel offered value for money evening meals.

Review 4:Location and views over lake and countryside

Review 5:The room was quite hot in the summer without fan or air conditioner. The english skill of the receptionist was not so much good to do a conversation or asking.

Review 6:This hotel is the oldest castle in the Waldeck region, where you can see the lake and whole area of the waldeck. All staffs were very kind. Besides, both the dinner and breakfast were very good.

Review 7:Having a room facing the front on the hotel was a little noisy and our rooms where lit up frequently during the night by cars. It was hot when we stayed and the room didn't have any air conditioning so we had to have the windows open, which unfortunately was a little noisy.

Review 8:Loved the location and the views. The breakfast was great. We would stay again but in a better room next time.

Review 9:Wifi was difficult as it was not communicated easily with the front desk. I had go go down to ask for the code twice and it wasnt assumed I needed it. I had to keep logging into the system and it was extreamly cumbersome.. I needed wifi for work so it was kind of a pain to have to work with also the passwords and usernames were all randomized so it was overly difficult and time consuming especially since I had to continue to sign in every other hour or so or every-time I left the room and in the morning again..

Review 10:breakfast was amazing, the castle was such a treat and we made sure to do the museum tour they have English audio guides which were very helpful. My daughter and I took a bike ride around the lake and visited the Dam and the small towns nearby

Review 11:If there is an event or large group it is likely the battlements outside the dinner restaurant will not be available and inside does not have the same appeal.

Review 12:Great views over the lake and hills and a true castle experience. The restaurant, while a little pricey, is good quality and if able to sit out on the battlements then the views are wonderful and very romantic. Breakfast was first class.

Review 13:Very poor television - small and extremely difficult to use. Almost non-existent WIFI service - only available in 5th floor cafe. Restaurant was not good value for money, although food good, with very high prices and poor choice.

Review 14:Location, views, style, historic setting.

Review 15:The pillows, they were very large and we found not very comfy as a result. Bed was comfortable though

Review 16:Spectacular views from all sides. Breakfast is served looking over the lake, this is a view not to be missed

Review 17:My only bad Tim was the Wifi did not work in our room.

Review 18:This is a magic place that presents magnificent modern facilities in an old Castle. The facilities were great. The staff very friendly and helpful and we had some magnificent views in a wonderful place.

Review 19:Almost nothing. I would have wished a water boiler to make my own tea.

Review 20:Perfect stay. Beautiful location, beautiful room with excellent bathroom. Beautiful sauna-facilities. Friendly staff.

Review 21:What's not to like!

Review 22:My wife and I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas at the Schloss as part of our 39th anniversary. What a truly fairytale like adventure! The location, village, lake all of it made for a wonderful memory making stay. We had a great 4 course Christmas Dinner and a great breakfast each morning. We even had snow on Boxing Day, the day we departed! As beautiful as it is in winter I can only imagine how it would be the other times of the year.

Review 23:The breakfast was average, and the staff in the breakfast room not really attentive to empty serving platters! Two days in a row we had to ask for platters to be refilled and this was only at 10am with breakfast being served till 11am. The 2nd morning, shortly after 10, we were told that there were no more croissants to be put out!! Simply not what one expects from a 4 star superior hotel. Would suggest that the breakfast room staff be a little more proactive.

Review 24:We recently spent 2 days at Schloss Waldeck, and had a lake facing room!! The room is lovely, has everything one needs and the bathroom is equally well kitted out! We especially liked the fact that the room and bathroom was totally modern which was a great combination with the old exterior, which was also reflected in the reception area. We appreciated the free wi-fi which was a nice touch! Parking is also free which is a bonus!

Review 25:the café had limited opening hours which meant going to the town as we did not wish to eat in the rather expensive restaurant. shower was a bit small

Review 26:the location, the quality of the furnishings and bedding, the colour of the furnishings, the view, very comfortable bed, staying in a castle!

Review 27:The food in the restaurant can be quite expensive

Review 28:The castle is incredibly beautiful with an amazing view of Lake Edersee and the town of Waldeck. The food is impeccable and the fine dinning is quite high class. This castle leaves nothing to be desired

Review 29:No wifi in the rooms, but there was a LAN line for connecting your laptop. Not so good for iPads and smart phones.

Review 30:Beautiful castle hotel nestled in a remote part of Germany. Beautiful room, very comfortable bed, and even though our room had a garden view, the view of the greenery was still so beautiful. Bathrooms were decorated with luxury and the design made good use of the space. Don't bother eating anywhere else than the hotel. The food at either restaurant was magnificent! Of course it's pricey, but was so well worth it! It was our anniversary weekend and we couldn't have been more pleased with our time at this hotel.

Review 31:No free wifi. Some hotel booklets are in German only, no English available.

Review 32:My first experience staying at a castle hotel has not failed me. The ambience and environment are excellent. The staff service is good. It is easy access to restaurants and cafés, and the scenic Eldersee. It even has a cable car service close by !

Review 33:only recommendable for people who like for a quiet place to do a cure or walk/bike ride, bar was not open on Sunday and Monday. Nothing else to do in the evening. WIFI should be free

Review 34:Nice and quiet location. Impressive scenery in an old castle. Nice and clear rooms (with airco would have been better).

Review 35:Main restaurant expensive and a bit too 'contrived'.

Review 36:Position! Hard to beat. Cafe-restaurant (when main one closed), good food and good value.

Review 37:See above

Review 38:Restaurant, bar and spa are all closed sunday and monday, which we found out there. We went there for their good food and what was served at the other eating place was really bad.

Review 39:My only complaint was that there was a lack of social areas to recline and soak up the atmosphere. Greater use of the reception area could have afforded this as would more seating on the main viewing area after the castle is closed to the public

Review 40:The location was stunning with a particularly nice breakfast room with terrace overlooking the reservoir and hills. Evening meals were of a high quality as were the breakfasts. A very interesting museum on site also.

Review 41:Restaurant overpriced No internet connection in our room

Review 42:Location and room

Review 43:The excellent rooms, combined with staff.

Review 44:Nothing

Review 45:Attentive and helpful staff. Excellent accommodation, comfortable and clean.

Review 46:Not much!

Review 47:View, quality

Review 48:Having to leave.

Review 49:The view, accommodations, english speaking staff, proximity togellerhausen, home of my german family.

Review 50:No wifi available!!

Review 51:No wifi!!!

Review 52:No airco in the room/too hot in summer

Review 53:Location of the hotel and clean and new room

Review 54:Amazing location

Review 55:Fantastic service, wonderful restaurant and beautiful location. Best memory of swimming in the lake and walking through the forest.

Review 56:Amazing quiet and beautiful place to stay

Review 57:Leaving after only one night!

Review 58:Setting, acommodatin and meals

Review 59:Expensive to eat and drink. A pool for the wellness room would be nice.

Review 60:The room was comfortable and clean. the overall location is wonderful.

Review 61:Truly wonderful location with friendly and efficient staff.

Review 62:The staff and location were fantastic. Everything was clean and pleasing.

Review 63:Brilliant hotel and great location for walking and hiking. Well worth a stay the staff were excellent also.

Review 64:Superior accomodations with a outstanding view

Review 65:Nothing at all

Review 66:Perfect location with perfect senery over Edersee Nice restaurant Good room facilities Nice staff

Review 67:The fact that dinner was served only at six in the evening. As a result we had to choose between food and a little more touring while there was still daylight. We chose the latter. We would like to have had dinner as well.

Review 68:The Castle feel. We were on a self-drive holiday and chose the Schloss for an interesting overnight stop. In retorspect, we should have stayed longer and given ourselves more time to explore the beautiful countryside and old towns of Waldeck-land.

Review 69:Everything was perfect. There was only one SMALL criticism and that was that the tv in the bedroom could have been at a slightly higher level on the wall. It was not adjustable, and made viewing a bit of a 'neck strain' but as we didn't watch a lot of tv, nothing too serious at all.

Review 70:This was our 2nd short visit and as before, we simply loved it. The hotel is AMAZING, the rooms are stylish, elegant and with every comfort. This time, the breakfast restaurant was only open for breakfast - which by the way, is a fabulous affair - the selection is wonderful, no one need go hungry here. We booked a table at the main restaurant for our evening meal, and whilst it offered excellent food, beautifully presented and tasty, I felt the menu was a limited one. A little more variety would have been nice. This has become a favourite 'romantic' destination - a little 'getaway' that pampers and delivers on every front. We will definitely be back at some future date.

Review 71:Dinner at the hotel restaurant was a bit expensive, we solved that by checking out local restaurants nearby. Some breakfast items ran out quickly, but who cares with such a view...

Review 72:We stayed between Christmas and New Year, very nice room and staff was helpful and friendly. Nice restaurant, beautiful location with lots of hiking possibilities nearby. Free use of the Spa was nice, very relaxing.

Review 73:The restaurant is incredibly excessively expensive. Unfortunately it ruined our stay. It was irrisponsible not to ask how much breakfast was but never In the darkest parts of hell did I imagine paying €54 euros per person per day for 1 buffet breaksfast. I'm Australian so that's $100 per person per day, we spent $600 on breakfast, so we spent more on breakfast then our stay (for a buffeted breakfast, some bacon and coffee) How on earth do they justify the restaurant prices. It nearly gave me a heart attack when I got the bill. Not only did it put a damper on our stay but put a huge spanner in our holiday). Also nothing was open in the winter season so it's best to go in summer. It is a lovely place just don t ever eat in that rip off restaurant. The place is hard to get to so if your coming from overseas it's best to hire a car.

Review 74:The staff were very nice and accomadating. Rooms were lovely as well as the location. Loved the history behind waldeck

Review 75:We were staying for two nights and had booked a side table with a view over the Edersee .We had this table for the first night and breakfast the next morning having booked it for the stay. When we checked in for dinner on the second night we were told , at first , they could not find the booking and when they did find it our table and all the window tables were all gone .We were then given a table that had not been made up in the middle of the restaurant and it remained not made up for some time . This was very disappointing ,particularly as a young couple with a small child who had booked in that day were seated at the table we had booked.

Review 76:The location and the views from the castle and the rooms were good .

Review 77:The bathroom was very modern, and attractive but had neither fan norwindow, nor all the standard cosmetics. The dining room has a greatview, but is very utilitarian looking and sparse and has no class.People looked scruffy.

Review 78:The room was very nice, even if small by American standards. The lobbywas spectacular in the old castle. We had 1 dinner there and it was verygood, local fish. Breakfast was a standard buffet, no luxury or bigdeal. Employees were very friendly.

Review 79:What a super location, in the hills overlooking the Eder Dam. Obviously easy to find! Staff all very friendly, and spoke good English (I know I must do better with my German). Great meal in the restaurant.

Review 80:The parking space is not really suitable for a motorbike: lots of marbles, no solid underground.

Review 81:We stayed one night in room 502 with a small balcony, a bath and a beautiful view. The castle is on a wonderful location, on a hill overlooking the Edersee. Staff was most friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a dinner a la carte in the evening in the restaurant, with an excellent bottle of Spätlese (from a good and rather large selection of wines to choose from, although a bit pricey: range € 35-85). Breakfast was included and outstanding.

Review 82:Many of the ladies at the front desk were not very friendly. They did not allow us to tour the castle or see very many rooms in the castle. They could have been more forthcoming with information sometimes (ex. where the spa was). They didn't speak much English, so that was tough.

Review 83:We liked the castle and the view was amazing from the restaurant at night. It was a very clean and up to date room. Very beautiful. I liked the spa and sauna. It was nice to see the museum/prison before it closed. We had one waitress that spoke English and she was very good.

Review 84:The renovation of the castle into a hotel has preserved the ancient character of the building while offering top comfort for the guests. The breakfast hall offers magnificent views over the lake.

Review 85:If you are resident then I do think to pay to go into the museum is a little petty.

Review 86:Everything about the hotel

Review 87:The bathroom was very small. WiFi only in punlic rooms.

Review 88:Nothing we did not like.

Review 89:Second visit following one last November with two other friends. Location and view over the Lake are really good.

Review 90:Excellent to sleep in a castle, nice museum, beautiful view.

Review 91:Wifi didn't worked. Light on toilet didn't work.

Review 92:Sourroundings. Nice staff.

Review 93:None. We do not care broken window sash, because this hotel is old castle.

Review 94:Lake view.

Review 95:hotel location restaurant breakfast nice personal

Review 96:Comfort rooms are tiny. A bit crammed.

Review 97:Gr8 location. Nice views. Good food.

Review 98:Location, quality of fixtures, fittings, facilities. Friendliness and helpfulness of staff.

Review 99:Peaceful location with stylish rooms. I arrived very late in the evening and the lady on reception was very pleasant and helpful.

Review 100:unfortunate, that one desk clerk that made me wait for over 5 minutes and did not apologize for this

Review 101:comfortable room, helpful staff

Review 102:Menu choice at the restaurant was rather poor

Review 103:Location, comfort, facilities

Review 104:Location Room Staff Bath tub in the room! Being a castle, and with the museum there as well The view

Review 105:Fantastic view. Amazing place to visit. Clean and comfort. Excellent staff.

Review 106:no bar open on a sunday

Review 107:the best location by far

Review 108:No air conditioning Evening restaurant was ridiculously expensive

Review 109:The location was amazing

Review 110:Beautifully decorated rooms, wonderful view from the dining area

Review 111:Staff at reception were very helpful in organising bicycles, internet, towels, taxis, vegetarian meals.

Review 112:Fantastic room. Staff very thoughtful. Great view. I hope to come back to enjoy the spa.

Review 113:Wifi is dramatic, what a shame.

Review 114:Location, view and room excellent
