Reviews for Hotel Santa Maria de Alquezar

Review 1:Pitty that the castle part which the room which is viewed from the porch is not illuminated at night

Review 2:Very friendly staff . They helped me changing between nights without a problem

Review 3:Alquézar is a splendid place, what a surprise. Hotel Santa Maria de Alquézar is very very nice. Friendly, helpful staff which helped us with whatever we asked for. Easy parking (we were ther mid September). A good choice of restaurants with value for money. Beautiful surroundings. Bring your walking shoes.

Review 4:Just a niggle about a the bathroom, nowhere to put soap etc in the shower. The shower flooded into the bathroom if it was on full presssure.

Review 5:Pretty much everything. The views from our room were stunning; the staff were so friendly; and the wine so cheap!

Review 6:Asked for doubled bed with view but room had twin beds. Asked to move and was given a room with no view and twin beds just made up as double

Review 7:Value, great position, nice breakfast

Review 8:The internet was down the several days we were there (not convenient for the staff, either!) There is supposedly signal from the nearby tourist office, but it was too weak outside, and the tourist office was rarely open. As a result, we had to go to our next destination without prebooking an accommodation; finding suitable accommodation from the street in an unfamiliar large city is rather stressful!

Review 9:This hotel is in the lower part of Alquezar, directly across the street from the gorge with great views of the castle and churches. Rooms are comfortable, and there is a nice lounge downstairs. It is an easy walk to several good, reasonably priced outdoor restaurants with seating right on the mirador. Exploring the rest of the town involves a good steep walk---beyond my capability, but my husband says well worth the effort to experience a typical arabic-type cliff town without hordes of tourists. Breakfast was excellent, with an exceptional choice of breads as well as all the other components of the typical cold breakfast in Spain---ham, cheese, yogurt, cereal, tomato, fruit, juice, coffee. Parking is off-site and a bit of a walk, but free and easy. It is possible to load and unload baggage at the hotel before parking.

Review 10:The hotel is on the edge of the walls of the town . We had a standard room at the back of the hotel so no view , but we did have a little patio area outside which was lovely and cool to sip a glass of wine. The staff were very helpful and friendly . Breakfast was good with a real variation of food and the ladies serving breakfast were especially friendly.

Review 11:What an amazing location! Far from anywhere we needed to be or anything to do but the view and serenity of this place out weights all cons! Breathtakingly beautiful

Review 12:That we didn't have more time to stay here!

Review 13:Everything - the hotel was lovely, staff were extremely helpful, we had wonderful views from our rooms, fabulous showers, and an excellent breakfast. Next time we will stay longer and go canyoning.

Review 14:Nothing.

Review 15:Amazing friendly staff. Immaculate and stunning views.

Review 16:Everything! The staff was amazing, breakfast was the best we've had in a hotel in Spain!!!

Review 17:The view was spectacular!! The staff made you feel comfortable and welcomed.

Review 18:Nothing

Review 20:A bit over priced

Review 21:The views from the room

Review 22:We loved the room with excellent view and balcony, very welcoming hotel and quality breakfast!

Review 23:Leaving

Review 24:All good but the view is breathtaking. Pay the extra and get a room with a view. You won't be sorry.

Review 25:The views from the hotel are awesome. The hotel and room itself are pretty and comfortable.

Review 26:The rooms, the breakfast, the staff. All excellent

Review 27:The view from the room was breath taking and adorning this beautiful picture were majestic eagles suspendid in air.

Review 28:Beds were uncomfortable and there were problems with the Wifi

Review 29:The location and the service

Review 30:impossible to make working the clim... this was VERY unpleasant because very hot

Review 31:Very clean ; quietness in the room (not in front) Good Breakfast

Review 32:The hotel was really Nice and clean with excellent views. The personnel was super!!

Review 33:Staff with genuine interest in guests, with friendliest attitude. Fabulous views. Do not miss Alqueraz and Santa Maria if you are anywhere in the vicinity. Hotel and the town are a gem!

Review 34:The room was quite small.

Review 35:The view was wonderful overlooking the gorge and lovely village. The lounge /breakfast room is very elegant. Breakfast was very good and generous.

Review 36:Wonderful Hotel and staff, our room was super with a balcony that looked over the valley. What a treat waking up to see the sunrise and castle from bed. Be sure to take the walk down to the river and around the castle and back up. Wonderful.

Review 37:The shower was really tiny. Could hardly turn around in it. Because ofthe race we had to park a long way from town. Didn't ever go back tothe car for suitcase because of the distance.

Review 38:We loved the town and being there during the Ultra Trail race. Loved theview from our room/balcony and good breakfast. Appreciated the greatrecommendation for dinner restaurant.

Review 39:Firstly the location is fabulous. The views are as everyone says, just magnificent! The lady that greeted us spoke English. Although we did not catch her name, we would like to thank her very much for making our stay a great one. Without even asking she provided us a map of the town and pointed out the best restaurants and the walking trail down the mountain. We were only staying one night and this made things so much easier for us, especially with a little two year old. We decided to do the walk in the morning and our host even gave us a big bottle of water as it was quite a warm day. We have stayed at numerous hotels in Spain and abroad and I can quite honestly say that this would have to be in our top 5 hotels. Totally recommend to everyone, oh and the walk was stunning!

Review 40:We would have given a much higher rating for the facilities and comfort if the air conditioning hadn't gone off at 1am and not come back on again until we were almost ready to check out. This was really dissapointing as it was a really hot day and night. That being said, i'd stay there again, but only if they give me a number to call if the air con goes off in the middle of the night.

Review 41:This was a really nice hotel in a great location with some spectacular views- the staff were helpful and best of all, the restaurants in the town were great. The hotel breakfast was also pretty nice.

Review 42:Parking is free, but a bit tricky as it can be hard to find close to the hotel.

Review 43:Stayed three nights in July 2013, with an amazing view of the town/mountains (we had requested this in the booking notes). Room was small, as you'd expect in a tiny mountain town, but the friendly staff and nice breakfast more than made up for it. Room with a view is great value for the price.

Review 44:Friendly hotel only two star but good accommodation. Take a room with a view it's well worth it. Breakfast good and included. You'll need it as there are some stunning hills and gorges to explore.

Review 45:Delightful hotel with balconies that offered magnificent views of the ancient town village and Vero river valley. Warm and engaging staff and lovely rooms. It is well worth the drive from San Sebastian or Barcelona and makes a perfect visit to a pyrennes village. A day or two in Alquezar is deeply relaxing and evocative of the distant past.

Review 46:No signs when you drove into town as to what to do if you were staying in a hotel. Traffic is restricted in historic streets and no clue how to find hotel from parking lot behind town.

Review 47:Great view.

Review 48:That I couldn't stay longer than the two nights we were there.

Review 49:Alquezar is an amazing place in the mountains and this hotel serves it well. It's location and associated views are amazing and it is an easy place to relax and take in the magnificent country side or get busy and get into canyoning. The hotel is very comfortable and the rooms are quite spacious. The continental breakfast was good quality and sufficient in size. You can't park at the hotel, but the car park above the hotel is an easy walk and quite safe. The walks around the township are really quite stimulating and there are plenty of nearby tapas bars and restaurants to enjoy. An excellent place to simply get away from it all.

Review 50:The location is magnificent as are the views from the front rooms. The member of staff on reception spoke excellent English and was very polite and helpful. The hotel is smart, clean and stylish. We will definitly visit here again for a longer stay.

Review 51:Directions to park the car weren't clear. No parking at hotel tounload/load luggage.

Review 52:Excellent location to stop between San Sebastian to Barcelona. Niceplace, stunning views, marvelous medieval town. Reach breakfast.

Review 53:A/C didn't work properly in room, and it was difficult to communicate problems since only one person at the desk speaks any English. The rooms in the back are small and have no view whatsoever.

Review 54:Good location at the edge of town, near several restaurants, and parkingis available a couple blocks away. Nice design of rooms and commonareas. Breakfast buffet was good.

Review 55:The staff were friendly and helpful, recommending restaurants and alsosome interesting walks down and around the cannyons. First night (Saturday) room didn't have a view but we were assured we would be moved on Sunday morning. This done the view from our room was absolutely great. The ambience of the hotel was relaxed and at breakfast food and variety was more than enough. Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay.

Review 56:The noise between the rooms and the breakfast could have a little bit of more choices and use local products rather than commercial ones ( as the fresh local goats yogurt, honey etc).

Review 57:The amazing view, the friendly staff & the location.

Review 58:Wifi was weak and on and off, very difficult to work from the rooms.

Review 59:Simple rooms but tastefully done. Rooms with view make all the difference.

Review 60:Beautiful small hotel in tiny, scenic medieval town. Well worth the trip. Friendly helpful staff, excellent breakfast.

Review 61:Poor or better no WiFi reception in room at second floor. Very simple breakfast.

Review 62:Friendly personnel, good location

Review 63:Very friendly and nice place in a small but very beautiful old village.

Review 64:A little intimate with paper thin walls.

Review 65:Beautiful location. A fun overnight

Review 66:Bar and dining not available at the time of our visit .

Review 67:Lovely location with views over the town, very pleasant reception.

Review 68:Rooms very basic. Soundproofing between rooms was poor and you could easily hear activity in the adjacent rooms.

Review 69:Location

Review 70:Nothing. Perfect stay.

Review 71:The comfort. The view. The breakfast.

Review 72:Same breakfast choice each day. Hairdryer in room would be appreciated.

Review 73:Friendly staff and helpful.

Review 74:View was spectacular. Breakfast was wonderful. Village was champing with gourmet restaurants

Review 75:The hotel was in walking distance of shopping, sites etc.

Review 76:The walls are thin and you can hear the people next to your room talking.

Review 77:The location and the view from Santa Maria are incredibly beautiful.

Review 78:Parking is a bit difficult but we worked this out ok

Review 79:Good breakfast but should start serving earlier. Good value andexcellent location.

Review 80:could be difficult parking close to hotel

Review 81:superb location good facilitiies

Review 82:- The location in the village. - The wooden equipment inthe room and the complements. - The view
