Reviews for El Palomar de la Breña

Review 1:Not entirely reliable plumbing, restaurant closed that particular night (although excellent one recommended in Vejer)

Review 2:Beautiful location, interesting property. Friendly staff.

Review 3:The only con to the place is the approach, you have to go on a dirt track approx 500 mts long before arriving to your destination, not bumpy and no pot holes but dirt track!

Review 4:Excellent location if you want to see Barbate and Zahara De Los Atunes, El Palmar beach and Caños De Meca are also within 10 mins drive. Waking up to birds singing and no other noise pollution was brilliant!

Review 5:Restaurant menu a bit limited - but good value and excellent service.

Review 6:Quiet location amidst woodlands - great if you like nature, walking, wildlife etc. A bit off the beaten track but well signposted. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Building full of character.

Review 7:The tv didn't work and the handheld shower would not hand up on the hook. Breakfast was very good, but very light - toasted homemade bread, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee.

Review 8:The dove cote was fascinating! The architectural design of the old lodge was also very interesting and attractive.

Review 9:you need a car to get there

Review 10:terrific location in nature reserve, quiet area. Although no road names, it is well indicated and easy to find (just follow the pigeons signs). Rooms are spacious, very clean and nicely decorated. They have an impressive 17th century pigeon breeding spot which you can visit. The restaurant provides great food in the weekends.

Review 11:-very quite place -spacious rooms, everything you need -very nice staff (English speaking), giving a lot of information for activities, etc. -restaurant offers good, basic food -breakfast: toast, cereals, coffee, juice, jam,...

Review 12:The address on the confirmation sheet was for the town center of Barbate and not the hotel. It finally took a phone call to the hotel to get us where we wanted to go.

Review 13:It took a bit of getting to but El Palomar de la Brena, was wonderful. We wished we could have stayed longer. It was quiet and surrounded by lovely forest and hillsides. The outside pool was nice, too.

Review 14:Breakfast was plentiful but would have benefited from a wider range of options.

Review 15:The location was very peaceful, although with quick access to Vejer (along a rough farm track). The accommodation was comfortable and staff lovely. The hacienda has a fascinating history. All round, a very chilled out, restful option.

Review 16:No air con in room Wi fi only available in bar Shower over bath - shower wall mount broken and shower curtain did not reach top of bath = very wet bathroom floor after each shower ! Pool itself wery good but surrounding area a bit tired

Review 17:Interesting old property

Review 18:Lovely peaceful location, great food in the restaurant. Staff very friendly.

Review 19:It is a very beautiful traditional Spanish farm, renovated. It looks much better than in pictures.

Review 20:The peace and quite. A treasure of an Hacienda in the middle of the Natural Park

Review 21:Beautiful interesting rural old renovated farmhouse with wonderful helpful owners and an enjoyable pool, easy access to lovely beaches

Review 22:Breakfast is quite simple, no AC which might be great at day temperature of 40 decreet C

Review 23:Location, nice room, pool

Review 24:Beautiful setting, beautifully restored hotel. Great restaurant and large pool a real bonus.

Review 25:Breakfast pretty average

Review 26:Beautiful setting Most powerful shower ever! Room Incredible under advertised pool... Large Gin & Tonics

Review 27:nothing

Review 28:everything especially the location and ambience

Review 29:Don't even try getting there with the GPS/SatNav. Just follow the very simple instructions in the location section - it's very easy, but seriously, leave the SatNav turned off.

Review 30:Amazing views, the people of the hotel are lovely and very accommodating and helpful. This extends to the little restaurant of the hotel, with absolutely delicious dishes. Would go back without any hesitation.

Review 31:A bit difficult to find when coming from Barbate.

Review 32:Very nice genuine spanish hotel some 15 mins from the beach. Hotel is a bit remote but in a lovely area : quiet, close to the nature, not touristic at all so you can really relax. Forrest close to the hotel is great.

Review 33:The room is on three levels connected by somewhat uneven steps, so going to the bathroom in the middle of the night without a torch can be quite adventurous.

Review 34:Beautiful old manor house in the countryside, full of character. Staff friendly and helpful. Room comfortable and well-equipped (but on three levels!), evening meal delicious, breakfast a little spartan.

Review 35:This is a quiet querky rural house -which is why I chose it because it is right in the middle of a nature reserve area. The reason I have not given it excellent in terms of facilities and comfort is because it is rural and does not have the smackings of luxury in terms of materialism but has luxury in terms of nature and the ambience, staff. Will definitely return there.

Review 36:It was not well sign posted. It took quite a while before we could find it. It is beyond the park area which in itself is big. The food was good but felt that the prices were slightly higher. One was in the middle of nowhere so not easy to find another eating place without having to drive for long...

Review 37:The peace and quiet and friendliness of the people who run it.

Review 38:We were among a very few off season guests, felt a bit deserted due to this factor

Review 39:Pastoral setting, though more open agricultural than "nature". Very quiet and peaceful. Great for quiet walks on country roads away from tourist areas Small bar was welcoming and chef made a great meal

Review 40:With a little work, the hotel appearance could be greatly improved

Review 41:Good location for us, though not very accessible for most. Clean. Beautiful old hacienda

Review 42:It's true that the rooms are a little dated. It has a rustic feel, not in a bad way, although it's no surprise considering the purpose it was built for over a century ago. Overall we had no real complaints, and would definitely stay there again.

Review 43:The location is secluded and peaceful (no noises from cars, industry, etc...). Dinner was excellent, the food was simple but very well-prepared, and it seemed that they used local ingredients where possible. The personnel were all quite friendly and helpful, although when we wanted to visit the rooftop terrace the man at the front desk said we needed to be accompanied and he wasn't available to go with us. The bathtub (at least in room 3) had a gorgeous faucet, a very cool piece. 24-hour access to the swimming pool and a tray to have breakfast outside in the sunshine were also appreciated. All in all we had a nice stay, and would recommend it for people with cars and who want a change of scenery after visiting beaches in the area.

Review 44:Plumbing - toilet met a strange noise every ten minutes as it leaked and then refilled. The wife ran out od hot water ( I went first).

Review 45:Location far from the madding crowd

Review 46:Would have liked breakfast available earlier than 9am.

Review 47:Extremely peaceful rural setting.

Review 48:The setting and the property is beautiful with just the right mix between rusticness and comfort. The best breakfast coffee I have ever had in Spain.

Review 49:Not that easy to find

Review 50:The place is amazing well worth a visit and absolutely beautiful !!

Review 51:NIce place, there was only the problem, how to get to the hotel, we have searched it for a while :-)

Review 52:Bed in the upper area was only 140cm wide

Review 53:Peace and Quietness

Review 54:Nothing

Review 55:Atmosphere. Nature. Architecture. Staff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant was superb!

Review 56:The hotel is set in a nature park which is unique and the dinner we had was excellent.

The Fine Print

Please note that the hotel has a rural location inside a nature reserve, where there are no street names. Therefore the use of Sat Nav devices is not recommended when trying to reach the hotel. The easiest route is to take the A22-33 via Barbate or Caños de Meca. The first sign to the hotel is half-way between these two towns.
