Reviews for Weingut Gästehaus Derkum
Review 1:That we were not able to stay longer
Review 2:An excellent accommodation facility in the centre of a small village right on the Mosel. A very good restaurant in the basement with very friendly service. Overall, one of the best places we have stayed during our multiple visits to the Mosel region.
Review 3:Very poor wifi, no connection in room or breakfast area. Inside of the house nothing authentic, just standard modern.
Review 4:Great location close to Mosel river. Beautiful facade.
Review 5:A small grumble but the shower temperatures were a bit erratic when everyone was getting up at the same time for breakfast.
Review 6:There is no better way to experience wine and wine-growing than staying with the Derkum family in their hotel in the heart of Urzig, one of the top vineyards in the world. The huge room had wonderful views from its corner turret windows up the quaint old street to the steep vineyards where harvesting was in full swing. From our windows we watched the grapes arrive from their vineyard, then went down into the Derkum wine cellar where we could taste the same wines by the glass with an excellent, reasonably-priced dinner and then buy what wines you liked. The breakfasts were sumptuous. And Frau Derkum and her family looked after everyone very well with cheerful, if occassionally chaotic, care.
Review 7:We liked everything.
Review 8:The attention of the staff, especially the 'grandmother'. What a woman! Breakfast, the bread, jams and fresh products. The bed was the best I slept in during our holiday's! (I miss it ;-)) Location: in a calm small village close to other bigger villages. Ideal. Private parking.
Review 9:Nothing!
Review 10:Everything! Warm welcoming, nice - informal wine tasting in the restaurant. Dinner - traditional German dishes with reasonable prices. Comfortable, spacious room. Excellent breakfast.
Review 11:Town has zero facilities to offer, although cycling and hiking friendly. Bed too short for me, but im tall.
Review 12:Spotless, very friendly, nice wine tasting. Breakfast includes some fruit and vegetables.
Review 13:The location is a little awkward to get to on a motorbike as it's just off a corner on a cobbled street, took us two attempts and there is nowhere to turn around before having to go up a steep set of hairpin bends. Obviously this isn't the guest houses fault however it is useful information for bikers that we wish we'd known about.
Review 14:This was a last minute booking as the Guest house we have used before was booked. Never the less what a surprise this place was, there was parking in the garage for the Motorbikes, the place was well priced and very clean. Initially there was confusion over the booking as only the son speaks English (better than I can speak German) but once that was sorted everything else was fantastic. Free WiFi, locally produced (well priced 10-20€ wine) nice meals and a very funny/social owner (Mother). I would recommend and use this Guest House again!
Review 15:Limited english spoken
Review 16:Superb room with excellent facilities in beautiful quiet town close to the River Mosel. Good places to eat in nearby Bernkastel.
Review 17:Maybe they forgot it, but washbasin and the taps in the shower and washbasin and the glasses weren't cleaned from the previous guest.
Review 18:Friendly lady, good value for money, nice evening meal.Would stay there again.
Review 19:Nothing, parking is a bit a way, so what
Review 20:All was perfect, good breakfast nice people, all clean. In the restaurant from the vineyard good and cheap regional food and great wines. Good big room, clean.
Review 21:There is nothing to dislike, everything was perfect.
Review 22:The hosts are very friendly, we don't speak German but we got by just fine, the room we stayed was absolutely lovely and in excellent condition. The breakfast was good with a selection of fresh bread, fruit, jams etc and as much coffee or tea as you want. They have restaurant in the cellar which was also brilliant with delicious schnitzel. We would live here if we could!
Review 23:Nothing to dislike.
Review 24:Bed comfort, lovely bathroom, spacious room very clean and modern. Friendly family staff. Excellent value, both room and food in evening.
Review 25:To connect Wi-Fi we had to go to a dining room at the ground floor.
Review 26:In spite of being located in an old house the rooms (and whole interior) are perfectly renovated, spacious, very clean and tidy, furniture and equipment are modern and new. There is even an elevator, which could be hardly expected in an ancient building. The place is lovely!
Review 27:Nothing really. However, the room could benefit from an extra curtain.
Review 28:Very friendly and welcoming owners! Nice, clean and spacious room. Very good breakfast. The in-house wine cellar where you can enjoy the family's own wine is a nice extra (and the wine was good :) ) Parking was included and conveniently located just around the corner.
Review 29:Nothing !
Review 30:The great family all working together to make it a great stay. The rooms were all new but the exterior was kept traditional. The wine cellar restaurant was fantastic. And they make their own wine !
Review 31:We had a small mix up with the rooms, but no problem. Not much English spoken, but it is in Germany!
Review 32:The rooms here are very clean and tidy, almost all new. Shower was great and bed very comfortable. Good breakfast and the wine bar underneath was good fun.
Review 33:Difficult to communicate with the staff as they don't speak English
Review 34:Simple hotel but it's fine for a short stay
Review 35:What a great place , very friendly owner , clean , confortable , good food and excelent wines . 100% Recomended !!

Review 40:Location, food and wine,
Review 41:The wine that is produced by the owners at their winery was great, which was available in an attached building.
Review 42:The hotel is very well appointed and the owners are very helpful. Urzig is tiny and very quiet if you want to get away from it all.
Review 43:The Weather
Review 44:The very comfortable room good and modern en suite facilities, Beds excellent,Breakfast as usual in Germany was excellent.
Review 45:WiFi was awful, well it actually did not even work.
Review 46:Everything! The village is beautiful but only for a short stay as not much to do.
Review 47:wifi was not good
Review 48:was just a very quite and relaxing hotel direct on the Mosel River
Review 49:No reception desk, closed door.
Review 50:Free parking nearby. Nice restaurant. Good breakfast. Spacious room. Great price for quality offered.
Review 51:Enjoyed everything.
Review 52:Friendly staff, clean and midern rooms. The village was peaceful on a rainy day.
Review 53:Nothing, it was great!
Review 54:Location near the Moselle, overlooking the rooftop of the cathedral! Large room and bath with sofa and chair and a couple of English speaking channels to keep track of the world you have left behind in this tranquil setting. Family run and hospitality galore! Good food both evening and breakfast. Great place to enjoy the river and the countryside. Cash only.
Review 55:No bath only shower, could have done with coffee making facilities in the room or a coffee machine to buy a drink.
Review 56:loved the location, beautiful village, great breakfast, car parking, really helpful proprietors, fantastic wine bar downstairs and lovely food and wine which was really good value and delicious.
Review 57:Modern, clean, spacious house inside, run by a delightful, energetic lady. Outside, old half timbered house set among similar buildings in a very pretty village centre.
Review 58:This is not a complaint, but a comment which may assist them. They advertise Wi-Fi, but couldn't access it in our room - only in the restaurant area in the cellar. Because of the language barrier we weren't sure whether it was acceptable, though we did make contact with home briefly.
Review 59:Friendly family-run guesthouse. Convenient to break our journey to southern Germany. We know the area and have stayed there in the past. We would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.
Review 60:For a short stay there was nothing to dislike.
Review 61:Comfortable and clean rooms. Very good breakfast, Frau Derkum's wine is superb. She is an excellent host and good company. Urzig is well placed for visits to Trier, Bernkastel and Cochem without paying the inflated prices in those places. Lovely but hilly local walks in the vineyards, great views over the Mosel. It is a quiet town with limited restaurants which suited us.
Review 62:On the menu it doesn't tell you the take away price for a bottle of wine. We spent 3 nights in the hotel and didn't know until the last evening that the wine we had been drinking was half the price if you drank it in your room!
Review 63:Everything was fantastic. The room was great, the family really friendly and there was plenty for breakfast. We ate once in the evening and that was also delicious. This is a very charming, clean hotel, in a lovely typical German village.
Review 64:nothing
Review 65:Family run, very friendly and helpful. Lovely dinner in the old cellar. Recommendations of wine excellent. Beautiful village on the Mosel. Breakfast good. Late check out no problem as my partner was not well
Review 66:Wasn't able to get wifi, but I believe it is available. Ididn't miss it.
Review 67:The hosts were very helpful and friendly. The little town is sobeautiful and typical of rustic Mosel valley I walked the town inminutes filming every minute of it (javadoug on flickr). I bought abottle of their locally made wine - very good - get the dry. The hotelis rustic on the outside and very modern on the inside, a nice mix.
Review 68:Nothing
Review 69:It is a bit of a struggle for non German speakers.
Review 70:Lovely people. Good restaurant. Good value. We would go back.
Review 71:Wlan did not work at the room.
