Reviews for Parador de Alcañiz

Review 1:Breakfast room quite small --- Choice of "hot dishes" is quite limited

Review 2:Dinner - presentation and value for money --- Rooms - comfortable and cozy --- Location - great

Review 3:There are less staff than before so service can be slow. Paradores are not homogeneous so you never know what you'll get I. the way of bathroom amenities, not even the same type of hair dryer.

Review 4:the location makes for easy access to the town and the panoramic views are tremendous. Paradores are very bureaucratic, too much paper but the staff are getting better

Review 5:Don't eat at the hotel. The dining room is worth looking at and reflects the architecture of the Parador. The food and service are poor.

Review 6:The hotel is beautiful and a well restored classic Spanish gem. The rooms, view, furnishings are special and worthy of a night's stay.

Review 7:Under staffed for waitres'. Bed was hard / springy. Head board was quite loose so makes noise against the wall when there is movement on the bed. Grounds need all the weeds removed from levelled areas around the castle, as it looks to be lacking maintenance. Insufficient place to set your suitcases up off the floor in the room. My recollection is that some literature or web pages state that this hotel has a pool, but it does not.

Review 8:Breakfast selection. Clean. The staff that were there we good. Very cool to stay in a castle. Fantastic views. Good orientation to the facilities and the town by staff.

Review 9:Another historic building with all the mod cons you need such as A/C in the rooms and an elevator between floors. Plenty of uncovered parking that was free and quite safe because this hotel sits onto of a hill overlooking the town below. The dining room for dinner is a beautiful space and the food is well prepared and the service was excellent. It looked like a bit of a trek to go into town but during my stay the weather didn't allow any trips into town.

Review 10:When I first arrived, the person at the reception desk wasn't veryfriendly but the next morning's person was helpful and all of theservers in the dining room were very nice. I didn't have a car. Iarrived in a taxi so it wasn't worth going down the hill as I onlyhad 24 hours and the weather was bad. I wish I had visited the town. Themenu was a bit limited and didn't change but it was ok. Not much tochoose from for a vegetarian.

Review 11:I loved the castle! I spent 24 hours inside, never left. It was cold andsuper-windy and rainy out so staying in was sheer luxury. I read andused the computer and took a bath and looked out the window. The viewwas spectacular. I also enjoyed eating in the dining room. I appreciatedthat they had a box full of difference plugs for different power sourcesso I was able to keep my laptop charged.

Review 12:I love Paradors and this one has the most fabulous location on a hill overlooking amazing scenery. The staff were charming, the food was local and delicious and the building historic. Our room was large with a step up to deep windows with fantastic views with swallows and swifts buzzing around us as we looked out in the morning. To be recommended and we will definitely stay again.

Review 13:Scrambled eggs at breakfast weren't great! The room furnishings were a little tired but still very comfortable.

Review 14:Beautiful surroundings, interesting history and quality service. Lovely big room fantastic view and

Review 15:They could do better with the road directions in. No signs for the impossible U bends at reception.

Review 16:Views and the special room we had for disabled. Staff very obliging with info and Restaurant staff all trained to serve correctly

Review 17:Bit of a walk up/down if your getting on in life.

Review 18:very thing, view from room with balcony, court yard for drinks eat in restaurant twice food excellent for veggies

Review 19:Not much in the village below, so did not linger here.

Review 20:the location in the "tuscany" area of Spain was superb; Wonderful surprise on the road less traveled. Interior terrace lovely for drinks and tapas. Very popular in this area between Barcelona and Madrid, so book early

Review 21:As with older Paradores, not designed for people with disabilities, but the staff more than made up for it with their cheerful helpfulness.

Review 22:No hot food available in bar before 8.30

Review 23:Beautiful old historic building, an excellent hotel

Review 24:Lovely building, peaceful.

Review 25:Beatiful Parador. Everybody was so helpful. The food was great and service great also. So close to all the places to see.

Review 26:Wonderful building great accomodation superb views of the countryside very helpful staff

Review 27:Position good town

Review 28:The bed was far too hard

Review 29:Everything .

Review 30:Historic environment in lovely quaint town

Review 31:The guide for the tour of the Abbey seemed somewhat under enthused, be it for the English or the Spanish visitors

Review 32:Excellent staff and property

Review 33:Everything ! Spectacular setting. First class accomodations. Helpful and polite staff. Real value for the money.

Review 34:Luxurious room and bathroom with great views. Good location near centre of town. Very comfortable bed. Full of history.

Review 35:Just one minor criticism. Having to make coffee at breakfast from a machine.

Review 36:Wonderful evening meals and peaceful setting.

Review 37:We upgraded to a suite that was in the corner for the building so we had 2 floors and views to 2 sides. The cost to upgrade was worth every penny.

Review 38:Great location and surroundings, high levels of comfort with helpful ,multilingual, staff and good food .

Review 39:Wonderful building Excellent food in restaurant and set menu very good value for money

Review 40:The town, the location of the hotel

Review 41:We only had one night we should have stayed for two

Review 42:Everyone went overboard to make us welcome

Review 43:Very nice room and location

Review 44:Mediocre food. Not good value for money.

Review 45:Location of Parador is beautiful. Nothing much happening in the town below.

Review 46:The waitress at the terrace was very tired

Review 47:Great location

Review 48:No access to the church and cloister other than at specific times. Unhappy staff. Evening meal poor.

Review 49:Nice building Friendly and helpful reception

Review 50:Position of the Castillo was superb, felt like a queen for a day. The room was spotless and the reception manager very friendly and helpful

Review 51:Price for breakfast Noise from town (loud Music) all night till 7 a¨! Nothting the hotel can do about, but did not sleep well.

Review 52:Nice old parador

Review 53:Breakfast was too expensive and not enough choice.

Review 54:Nothing

Review 55:Everything

Review 56:There was nothing we didn't like, except, maybe, when we went to see the exhibit/tour on the grounds. The woman at the entry was very discourteous. We would have happily paid the money just for a peak. She told us to get out, in Spanish.

Review 57:The entry to the Parador is past the fantastic old Santa Maria Church (Gothic tower with a Baroque facade). Winding up the hill to the castle and monastery, entering the beautiful courtyard and arriving at the entrance was very dramatic. Excellent views of the surrounding countryside. The rooms were fit for a king, and the grounds were stunning. Food at the restaurant was exceptional. Breakfast was the finest we had in Spain! We played music in the courtyard and in the bar, and loved the feeling of being in these ancient surroundings.

Review 58:Nothing apart from having to leave it all behind.

Review 59:We liked just about everything about the parador. The location, views, interior and exterior of the property..the breakfast and evening meal were excellent. We stayed there for a special occasion, and would certainly go back again, and definitely try other Paradors in the future. Can' wait for the next time.

Review 60:Nothing to dislike

Review 61:This is a beautiful comfortable castle - we felt like kings and queens. Truly a lovely place to stay. Alcaniz a lovely little town well worth a visit

Review 62:The unique location on top of the highest hill around, with panoramic views all round .The food was really first class with the menu in English. The staff were very good and welcoming at all times.....

Review 63:Great location, you can see for miles. The food was excellent had the set menu which included wine. The tour around the monestry was really good, the guide was very knowledgeable

Review 64:A restored castle on top of the hill - but only 5-minute walk down to the main square. Restoration is excellent with magnificent dining-room (with excellent food!)

Review 65:Restaurant food is expensive for the standard. Why do they not serve fresh cod instead of salted. I buy far superior fish in my local supermarket to what is served on this menu

Review 66:Paradors are always a good experience and this one is no exception standing in a high location with good views

Review 67:The walk back up the hill from town on a v hot day!!!

Review 68:Just the ambience of staying in Castillo calatravas. Excellent food and bar good from again with balcony overlooking town and countryside

Review 69:I thought the breakfast service was not very friendly. Food was good, coffee was okay.

Review 70:The atmosphere, the sight and views were wonderful. It was an easy walk to town. The castle is a great place to experience.

Review 71:The setting on the hilltop in a 12th century castle/fortress was just astounding - the reconstruction and and conversion to the 1st class hotel remarkable.

Review 72:Hotel needs some refurbishment. Restaurant could improve main dishes, otherwise entries and wine list o.k.

Review 73:Good location and parking. Nice castle and dining room. Well located on top of the hill. Good breakfast. Nice surroundings (Maestrazgo)

Review 74:Could not get anything to eat before leaving for the race track at 0730,no coffee or tea facilities in the room

Review 75:Exclusive location, friendly staff, parking, good food, good breakfast

Review 76:The rooms had very thin walls and I was awakened both when couples onour floor went to bed (later than we) and got up...VERY Irritating forthis price. While I don't think the Parador was fully occupied, I feltthe room we were given could have had a better view (though given achoice between the view we had, of the fields/valley below, and a quietroom, I would've taken the latter). The heating seemed to be 'off' (Iwas chilly several times) and though it is a 'personal' thing, I foundthe color scheme to be the least attractive of any of the dozen plusParadors we've stayed at (celery green). The rugs definitely needrefurbishing, as they are very very 'tired'.

Review 77:Location is most spectacular in town. Staff that checked us in wereleast friendly of the three paradors we stayed at (but did look up ourold amigo club number and gave us the '2 free welcome drinks' coupon aswell as a coupon good for lunch at another Parador on our travels as weleft, so I would have to say they were efficient.i liked the bar/cafeteria for its banners and beautifully painted wall murals. Dining room looked gorgeous, though we selected to eat down in town for much less Euro and were pleased with this choice.

Review 78:Excellent location, excellent views, very friendly and helpful staff.Paradors are a bit more expensive than other hotels in Spain but Alcanizis really worth to stay in.

Review 79:The township does not have much in the way of sights to see so your stay tends to be limited to the parador or excursions further afield.

Review 80:First up, the location was well signposted. This has been an issue in a number of locations where the hotel is located in a town with lots of narrow roads and lanes. On arrival, the view is spectacular given the hotel's location on top of a hill. The room was comfortable and clean, but not luxurious. The evening meal in the dining room was a vast improvement on the Cuenca parador, although it is still stuffy and formal. The food quality was quite acceptable. Breakfast was better than the evening meal in terms of food quality. An evening drink in the courtyard is a very pleasant exercise. Overall, the staff were most pleasant. A visit to the old monastery is a must if only to embrace something over 800 years old. Parking out front of the parador is plentiful and free.

Review 81:Nothing to complain about.

Review 82:The views were excellent and very peaceful even though there was a Fiesta on in the village. The food was vey good and a good selection.

Review 83:The hours to your the church at the castle are so random. Made it impossible for us to see the inside ...

Review 84:This castle was nicely restored with a fantastic staff that was helpful with all with all questIons. The town of Alcaniz is a little slow but has a lot of personality and life. The castle is much nicer than the other paradora I have stayed at.

Review 85:Alcañiz doesn't really have much to offer the traveler except thisparador, which is quite regal and impressive. We really enjoyed it, andappreciated the staff's efficiency and courtesy.Dinner in the restaurant exceeded our expectations. The theme of our menu was vegetables, but what really shone were the fish and beef main courses. The grilled sea bass was perfect, as delicious and fesh as is possible. Likewise the veal (more like beef), was beautifully grilled and absolutely great. Prices are quite fair, and the dining room and service are splendid.

Review 86:We were disappointed in our evening meal as our expectations had beenraised by comments on Booking.com but as it was a Sunday evening when wedined perhaps the regular chef was not on duty.

Review 87:The building and location

Review 88:Nothing, couldn't fault it.

Review 89:Staff were brilliant, restaurent excellent.

Review 90:overpriced with no ac 1st night

Review 91:there was nothing i did not like,

Review 92:the view from the Parador was very good ,the staff were exceiient at all times .

Review 93:nothing

Review 94:The position of hotel is outstanding and the modernisation has been done in keeping with age of building we enjoyed our stay very much.

Review 95:An historic hotel with stunning views over the surrounding countryside

Review 96:Plates at both dinner and breakfast were cold, so the food was cold very quickly

Review 97:The castle itself.

Review 98:small food options

Review 99:location, views, asked to switch rooms, no problem

Review 100:excellent

Review 101:The town itself was slightly disappointing

Review 102:Location in a castle

Review 103:cleanliness and location, breakfast

Review 104:Nothing not to like!

Review 105:Wonderful to be able to stay at an old castle.

Review 106:The town of Alaniz, it is not sure what it is, historical or modern.

Review 107:The history and the architecture of the Parador.

Review 108:The guided Tour the general appearance

Review 109:stunning views, good clean room, food was fine but not exceptional, staff all very helpful and will go back again

Review 110:Most everything. The young lady that checked us out was the mostbeautiful and nicest person we met in Spain.

Review 111:Pretty much everything.. style, food and ambience.. All excellent.

Review 112:Not much to do in the vicinity

Review 113:Comfortable and convenient. Value for money

Review 114:Stunning location; helpful staff; comfortable room; good price; free parking (and safe). Excellent club sandwich; very good breakfast.

Review 115:Friendly, helpful staff. Great sheets.

Review 116:Nice rooms. Good breakfast.
