Reviews for Parador de Almagro

Review 1:This property is amazingly beautiful. Surrounded by period pieces, oil paintings and surprising architectural features, it is the perfect place to relax. Wish we could have spent more time here.

Review 2:This is a beautiful hotel in a lovely historic village. The square is within minutes of the hotel where you will find a good selection of restaurants and bars and a lovely atmosphere The hotel rooms are beautifully traditional and the courtyard restaurant lovely...swimming pool also very nice.

Review 3:Breakfast was exceedingly expensive (15 euros) for only a cold buffet (no one even came around to take a coffee order so we made instant Nescafé on the machine)--simply unacceptable for the price. Staff was unhelpful, even rude on check in and when asking not a question about area attractions (I was speaking in Spanish and have had no problems communicating with hotel staff elsewhere). Worst value on our trip. The shower had poor water pressure.

Review 4:Historic building, comfortable bed.

Review 5:We had the fixed price chef's menu and there was too much food and of a poor quality with the exception of the lamb and potatoes . Next time we would order Al a carte. The breakfast was good although pricey.

Review 6:The room and property was excellent in our view.

Review 7:Staying in this beautifully restored historic building was a wonderful experience. The town itself is lovely, with a beautiful plaza. Well worth a visit.

Review 8:The wifi only worked in the foyer for the whole of our visit.

Review 9:The historic aspect of the hotel was great. Our room was small but beautifully furnished. Bathroom was great. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 10:The building and furnishings are beautiful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel close to the historic town centre. Pool facilities lovely in the summer heat.

Review 11:Quite, very good place to rest and relax, the town itself was just wonderful, good tapas bars and very interesting central plaza. Only a few minuets stroll from the Parador.

Review 12:The hotel was nice and clean and no fuzz checking in and out for one night. The bar tender gave us a quick tour of the cellar and the old clay jars that monks used to store the wine. The plaza mayor is a quick 5-10 mins walk in which set up like many plaza in Spain which the close up for the bull fighting during bull fighting season.

Review 13:The directions for the Parador ran out and when reaching a series of crossroads there was no indication as to which road to take. This applies to so many Paradors and it is such a relief after a long journey to actually find the hotel!

Review 14:The setting and our accommodation

Review 15:What a beautiful place. Because of noise from construction, we were moved to a lovely suite that was very comfortable. The staff, location and atmosphere were all wonderful.

Review 16:The dinner menu was limited. We chose a course that had a supplement but did not consider that it was good value.

Review 17:We liked the ambience of this old convent turned hotel. Full of interesting furniture and courtyards. It was also very well placed which made walking to places of interest easy. Parking was also good.

Review 18:The bodega does not serve tapas until 20:30, which in case of bad weather (unfortunately our case...) it's a little bit too late if you want to have something else besides wine and beer before having dinner.

Review 19:The location of the Parador is perfect. It's really close to the Plaza Mayor and the Corral de Comedias. The room was more than enough for us and our 18 months old daughter.

Review 20:Restaurants in the village are better to eat and cheaper as well. Bar area very basic and not made to relax for the whole evening (hard chairs, not possible to lay back). Basic lounge area. Chilly interior outside summer season.

Review 21:Friendly personnel. Nice big historic building in small historic village (not much to see or do). Authentic rooms with view into garden trough small window. Excellent breakfast. Free wifi and parking. Nice interior gardens to relax on a hot day. Nice swimming pool.

Review 22:What was lacking was an area with comfortable chairs/sofas to relax, when going out into the city is not an option, because of adverse weather conditions. Only area available was the bar area, which had no comfortable seating at all.

Review 23:Dinner and room were very good

Review 24:Limited parking

Review 25:Interesting small hotel converted from a church and brewery Good combination. The hotel retained some interesting parts of the old buildings. Easy access and 5min walk from the centre.

Review 26:We only booked one night; should have stayed a week.

Review 27:Parador Almagro is like the one country in the world you'd want to live in forever. It should be called Paradise Almagro. Picturesque, breathtakingly beautiful and so large and rambling it's like wandering the streets (and getting lost in) the most visually pleasing Casco Antiguo anywhere. Staff excellent; restaurant world class; facilities comprehensive. We'll be back...

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:We love the feel of the place, the pool, and the rooms. It is a special experience to stay at this Parador, and we have been there on at least 3 separate occasions.

Review 30:The building and the peaceful atmosphere

Review 31:Beautiful building and grounds, room was lovely too and great food both dinner and breakfast.

Review 32:Tasty lunch and breakfast.

Review 33:Beautiful grounds.

Review 34:Beautiful, cHarming pArdor in a small town

Review 35:Everything was good. There was nothing not to like.

Review 36:A lovely Parador – one of the nicest we have stayed in. Food is good, unlike many others.

Review 37:Tea making facilities in the room would be very much appreciated, in all Paradores.

Review 38:Everything about the wonderful gem of a city.

Review 39:The ambience and cleanliness were excellent. The staff very friends. Parking easy. Lovely square nearby to sit in with lots of friendly people.

Review 40:Loved the property and accommodation, furnishings etc. Also excellent location for bars and restaurants and sightseeing.

Review 41:Lovely old building, well restored. Great public areas.

Review 42:The hotel was lovely.

Review 43:beautiful old parador with lots of charm.

Review 44:A beautiful Parador and superbly maintained. Calm location but so close to the centre of a charming and historical town.

Review 45:Restaurant did not open till 8.30p.m. for dinner. To enjoy a nice 3 course meal when finished is far too late for us

Review 46:Location, building, friendliness of staff

Review 47:The building was beautiful The food was excellent Staff friendly

Review 48:The restaurant produces lovely food in a very pleasant setting. The bar area also is very comfortable and convenient. Able to park car on site.

Review 49:No internet, lousy service. They don't care. The word service to the client was never learned by their staff.

Review 50:Beautiful Convent

Review 51:quality comes with a parador, free parking

Review 52:after the hubbub of Toledo this was a peaceful break on our road trip. The staff were excellent and Almegro is an interesting little town.

Review 53:staff food

Review 54:The beds were too hard for our tastes.

Review 55:The historic building Staff helpful and friendly Near to the towns attractions Free parking

Review 56:Wonderful building, great staff and lovely food in fascinating old town.

Review 57:Charming surroundings of the historic Convent, friendly staff and pleasant dinner, along with comfortable rooms

Review 58:Relaxing by the pool

Review 59:The indoor terrace area with small pool was very green and uninviting to stay in.

Review 60:The tranquility of the Parador.

Review 61:Nothing, we will be back

Review 62:Beautiful old building with 14 Courtyards... Very friendly and welcoming staff. Good restaurant with local dishes, Quaint town,

Review 63:If they would provide a kettle and equipment for making a cup of tea or coffee, it would make a stay much more comfortable. The wi-fi was very poor but I assume its because of the thickness of the walls and they perhaps cant improve it.

Review 64:The room was large and very comfortable, the staff were very helpful and the whole ambience was very pleasant.

Review 65:The location and the facility were fantastic! Loved the quiet little town. A great place to relax and wander. A great central place to visit the provence. The "desk clerk in training" was incredibly helpful. He spoke very clear english and was able to give us suggestions on restaurants and detailed directions to our next locations. Would recommend to others.

Review 66:One suggestion for improvement: It would be nice to have a safe in the room. - Otherwise, everythings was totally fine.

Review 67:Very comfortable stay. Lovely Parador, nicely decorated rooms, friendmly staff, good regional cuisine. Almagro being a smaller country town has not lost its orginality yet. We found it interesting.

Review 68:Fairly expensive, we have stayed in better value Paradors. The bar area is more like a canteen and could do with being a bit more comfortable, not sufficient tables either. The lounge areas had rather up right chairs so no where to sit and relax.

Review 69:We used it for one night as a stop over early February. Easy to find as it is sign posted. Lovely old historic building and it was warm. We did not have dinner although we wish we had as we went across the road and it was not good at all. Breakfast was ok, no hot food but we were served tea or coffee. The room was ok, no bed head, very Convent like (that is what it has been) wifi worked fine and there is a computer in the reception for guests use.

Review 70:It was too hot in the room. Need to have a blanket or thin bed cover - afeather duvet is too hot. We were disappointed that there was no accessto more of the patios / courtyards. The ones with gardens would benice peaceful places to sit and read.

Review 71:Fantastic Historical sights - including 17th.Century churches, palaces. Medieval Theatre , and of course not forgetting , great local wineand food .

Review 72:BIG disappointment that there was an automatic overhead soaking shower entrance to the otherwise lovely swimming pool and sunbed terrace. I had to go and ask reception to ask the pool attendant to open the padlocked side gate so that I did not get my hair, towel, clothes, book etc soaked ! Many other guests were skipping through on one side of the opening but this could cause someone to slip and was not safe. There are showers inside for you to use before swimming. This arrangement is just silly and unnecessary.

Review 73:Helpful staff, wonderful atmosphere, lovely setting, the buildings are well maintained and very interesting. Very close to Almagro town centre for walks and exploring the historical centre. Good parking.

Review 74:Pool that does not open until 11.30 in the morning. Hard for someone who books a hotel with a pool so they can swim before breakfast.

Review 75:Fantastic history and design of the hotel, a great destination for a stop.

Review 76:The restaurant was rather basic and overpriced for the food offered although the setting was splendid.

Review 77:The setting and convent is beautiful and magnificently decorated. The rooms are quiet and service is professional.

Review 78:Wifi not good - old building with thick walls! There was free access to a computer in the reception area which was fine for us. Breakfast had good selection but the hot food was not hot. Limited parking onsite with no security.

Review 79:Fantastic to stay in such a historic building but with all mod cons. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location at Almagro is great - a lovely town with lots going on. We did park onsite but were lucky to get a space in the shade as there were not many spaces and no facility to book a place. We had dinner out in the patio which was very good and the staff were very efficient despite being very busy because of the fiesta. Great stay.

Review 80:The Hotel is very unique with its historical building. We loved the nature by the swimming pool. The dinner garden was very romantic, the food was very specific. The barmaid in the bar was so nice that she has served a drink in the garden . Thank you!

Review 81:Beautiful building, free wi-fi, nice pool area, helpful and friendly staff, good value, only a short walk to the spectacular Town Square. Secure undercover parking free of charge. We've stayed here before and it was every bit as good as we remembered it.

Review 82:Parking was a little difficult the night we arrived, and although this may have been partly our fault, we had a hard time finding the hotel. Price is a little high despite all the good qualities.

Review 83:The hotel grounds and buildings were beautiful, very well kept, and spotless. We really appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff we encountered. The breakfast was excellent as well with everything from eggs and sausage or ham to baked goods, breads and jam, yogurt, fruit, and sugar free and gluten free options.

Review 84:Breakfast was very expensive for what was available.

Review 85:The Parador is in a good location, close to the main plaza. The food and drink in the Bodega was good and very reasonably priced. Decor was interesting ad tasteful.

Review 86:Twin beds in our room (we wanted a double or queen). Also we were in a smoking room, which we did not want but it didn't smell bad.

Review 87:Beautifully restored monastery within walking distance to center of Almagro and historic sights. Good restaurant. A very good value for the money.

Review 88:rooms not very comfortable but you would not expect that in these types of historical building hotels

Review 89:History of the building, the court yard, staff were helpful

Review 90:Apart from the greeting Iwe were most disappointed with the menu having read your description of the chef etc it was not what I was expecting of a 4 star hotel whilst the ambiance was good staff friendly the food certainly let it down !

Review 91:Staff apart from check in staff we very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we did not have the room we booked - a double room . When I requested a double room I was told it was not possible and offered and upgrade to a suite costing an extra €96 !!! The hotel was by no means full and saw this purely as up sell - very unhelpful and opportunist . Please to say that within an hour the staff on reception had changed and whilst not offering the room of my choice were helpful in other ways. The staff in the restaurant we friendly and helpful

Review 92:We liked everything about this Parador.

Review 93:We were in the Almagro Parador many decades ago and we thought at the time it was a wonderful stopping place. This time round it was as good as we remember. I am sure this is our favourite Parador.

Review 94:This Parador is located in a old monastary with a wonderful courtyard. The dining hall is large but nicely arranged and we had a superb 4 course 'Valentines Day' prix fixe meal with wine included for a very reasonable cost (compared to North American standards)! The breakfast buffet was intimidating with extensive choice!

Review 95:Everything... This is a quiet hotel in a very tranquil setting. In the restaurant, service-food-staff were all excellent. a bit off the beaten track but well worth the effort to get there. 10 out of 10 for this hotel.

Review 96:Almagro itself, not the Parador, seems to be a pretty sleepy little village. It may be because we were there near the end of October, but there was nothing to do in the town, and the plaza area could have been a fun area, but there was no life at all. We liked the Parador, but I'm not sure I would recommend going there (Almagro) as a destination. It was a stopping place for us between Granada and Madrid.

Review 97:The dinner and breakfast were both fabulous. The room was spotlessly clean and fresh. We enjoyed the architecture and garden/courtyard areas.

Review 98:Our delightful and beautifully decorated room overlooking the garden and swimming pool. The peaceful atmosphere and enchanting quiet courtyards. The staff were charming and breakfast was vast and delicious! Parking on site. Almagro is a lovely little town and well worth exploring on foot - lots of great little bars and restaurants in the main plaza.

Review 99:Fence around the pool. You have to walk through a particular gate so you can't just sit on the edge of the pool. It's almost like they don't want people to use the pool.

Review 100:I liked that the parador was an old Convent. Rooms were clean, spacious and well appointed. Walls were thick so you couldn't hear your next door neighbour. Bar, dinner and breakfast areas were very nice. Food for both dinner and breakfast was excellent. It is located about a 5 minute walk from the centre of town.

Review 101:Value for money, Excellent place for peace, tranquility and relax, alone or with another couple. Fabulous breakfast as usual in all te Spanish Paradores

Review 102:An amazing historic building that has been converted to a wonderfulhotel with beautiful furniture and effects. Almagro is a small butinteresting town.

Review 103:Nothing to dislike

Review 104:Everything and town looked so interesting and old just wished we had anor day to look around.

Review 105:Rooms are not very soundproof.

Review 106:Lovely rooms in large complex with beautiful places to sit and relax. Excellent bar. Restaurant good but not special.

Review 107:The swimming pool was closed.

Review 108:Very beautiful place in a wonderful little town.

Review 109:Nothing.

Review 110:This Parador is in a stunning old building. The staff are excellent and the food is most enjoyable.

Review 111:A very beautiful hotel. We also enjoyed the food especially the traditional Manchegan dishes
