Reviews for Landgasthaus Grüner Baum

Review 1:If you are planning to go to Freiburg, it is far. About 30 min drive.

Review 2:Very large room, confortable bed and excellent bathroom. Very good breakfast. Very friendly staff.

Review 3:The staff was helpful, the food was excellent and I loved being tucked away in the black forest. We had a car but noticed that there was even a bus stop right outside for those traveling without one!

Review 4:Lots of stairs to carry dogs up

Review 5:Restaurant had wonderful food, bedrooms very nice. Staff very helpful. Traveling with 2 puppies and they were very accommodating

Review 6:That we couldn't stay longer!!! There was absolutely nothing to dislike!

Review 7:The location and staff were wonderful!! Ludwig and his wife were extraordinary, the food was delicious and the service was outstanding. They took the time to tell us about a favorite place to visit hiking off the regular tourist places. It will stand out in our memories.

Review 8:It was cool and we didn't use the balcony much but it is one long balcony and so you would be outside with all the other guests on your floor if everyone was using it at once -- for smoking or whatever.

Review 9:The owners were wonderful -- they even bought gluten free bread for one of our family members for breakfast. The dinner was very, very good.

Review 10:Only thing we didn't like was, we specifically requested rooms with high ceiling, but at arrival we were told that room with high ceiling was not available. It would have been nice if they had communicated about it at the time of booking.

Review 11:The location was nice, surrounded with mountains, peaceful area. The rooms were nice and all facilities were there. A good place to relax and stay away from city life. Breakfast was nice.

Review 12:Nothing to not like

Review 13:Everything, the location, the facilities, the hosts - my fourth time there which says it all really. This is a wonderful stop over and is more than comfortable and is great value as well.

Review 14:WiFi could be better - hard to get on sometimes.

Review 15:Owners and staff are super friendly and made the stay awesome! Great location to hike in the Schwarzwald.

Review 16:Internet didn't work.

Review 17:Super clean rooms, simple but had everything we needed, friendly owners, excellent breakfast, restaurant was great (cream of mushroom soup was outstanding) so reasonably priced for such a nice place, such a beautiful location.

Review 18:WiFi in the room very unstable.

Review 19:We spent our winter holidays at Landgasthaus Grüner Baum, including Christmas and the New Year. There's not much to do in the village Simonswald itself, but if you have a car that's not a problem - there are lots of interesting places within one hour drive. The owners were very nice and friendly. We also liked the restaurant and had dinner there almost every evening.

Review 20:It was cold, the room was large so it probably needed a second heater

Review 21:Staff were very friendly and helpful Large room nice view Nice location outside of the town

Review 22:nothing

Review 23:We were looking for a walking break and the location couldn't have been better. The hotel is a little out of the village but a lovely 20 minute walk by the river and you were there (or a few minutes drive). Relaxed and casual atmosphere and very friendly and welcoming hosts who spoke English which was a real help. Very comfortable room and quiet, we both slept soundly. Room was spotlessly clean. Lovely breakfast and excellent dinner.

Review 24:There was nothing during our stay that affected us adversely...We liked it all.

Review 25:We wanted a centrally located stay for seeing the Schwartzwald that was regional and homey. This fit the bill perfectly. There were 4 of us, 60 and older that stayed 5 nights. It is family run, and everyone was friendly and very helpful. We chose to eat dinners here, and the food was excellent. Walkers can walk into the town of Simonswald in less than 1/2 hour for even more variety. It is picturesque, quiet at night, private, and we all were very happy with our stay. We felt that we got a bit of insight into true German life.

Review 26:The only minus point was that the Wi-Fi on the second floor was virtually non-existent but that's not why we stopped in the Black Forest!

Review 27:We did a 2-night stop-over on the way to Niedersachsen and after a long Internet search found this Gasthaus that got raving comments. And we were not disappointed. The room on the second floor had beautiful views, a shared balcony and was roomy, quiet, clean and the bed VERY comfortable! We ate at the restaurant on Sunday evening (closed on Mondays) and the food was excellent. The staff were very helpful and so welcoming and friendly! It felt like home and very pleasant! I have no hesitation in recommending this Gasthaus to all who are looking for a place with typical Black Forest charm!

Review 28:No alpenstrudel in menu ;)

Review 29:Excellent location, people

Review 32:Superb location and excellent food. friendly & helpful staff

Review 33:Great Wifi, lovely welcoming host, amazing eggs for breakfast

Review 34:Nothing

Review 35:Best room of our stay and such friendly staff. Great breakfast too!

Review 36:Room was very nice but dingy as roof overhung the balcony blocking the light and view.

Review 37:Very comfortable hotel with good food and friendly service

Review 38:Very friendly owners. Very good restaurant for dinner. Good location in a nice village.

Review 39:Nothing.

Review 40:Waking up to the sound of cow bells.Very helpful staff, carried our bags upstairs for us.

Review 41:None

Review 42:Everything

Review 43:Superb location, family run, pleasant rooms, good food, very helpful proprietors, dog friendly

Review 44:Nice welcome, great room and fantastic food

Review 45:same breakfast 5 days is too much

Review 46:Location, food was excellent

Review 47:Great area.

Review 48:Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke English well. Rooms were very clean. Great breakfast included with the stay.

Review 49:Friendly relaxed staff ,beautiful clean rooms ,loverly part of Germany

Review 50:The staff and food brill. A must to stay if you are in area.

Review 51:A very comfortable Gasthaus located near the Black Forest, with excellent facilities, great food and very pleasant owners.

Review 52:Beautiful setting and food

Review 53:Our hosts were so lovely and accommodating. We spoke English so they helped a lot. Dinner was excellent

Review 54:Wify was poor in the room but worked well in the restaurant on the 1st floor.

Review 55:The host was friendly. The hotel location wasn't good.

Review 56:Friendliness of hosts, excellent beer garden, great food, value for money

Review 57:Comfortable room. Great location for visiting the Black Forest. Friendly, attentive staff. Lovely, peaceful setting. Hope to come back.

Review 58:The wifi is indeed slow, we were able to connect only when standing directly above the router in the room entrance. The pillows are a bit flat, a second one for each bed would have been nice.

Review 59:We arrived late on a roadtrip and we received with open arms, a lovely dinner and a spacious room with a lovely balcony. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed our stay very much

Review 60:Nothing really happening close by, except hiking. Small town nearby have a few places to go.

Review 61:Nice place; wish we could stay longer. Watched World Cup downstairs at the bar ("gasthaus"); few beers. Proximate to Freiburg. Decent location for hiking.

Review 62:Nothing at all to dislike

Review 63:This is our 3rd visit, so I would imagine that that speaks for itself. This guesthouse is in a beautiful location. All the staff are really welcoming and friendly, and the food is delicious, at any time of the day. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in this area.

Review 64:Wifi was a bit spotty on the top floor, but worked well in the restaurant.

Review 65:Lovely hotel in the middle of the Black Forest. The owners are great, very friendly, very helpful. The rooms are very nice with updated baths. Breakfast was wonderful and the restaurant is great for dinner! We wished we could have stayed longer!

Review 66:Did not realise it was out of town, but only a minor downside, as it was a fabulous place to stay otherwise.

Review 67:A great choice based on previous reviews. The view from the front balcony was just stunning. The rooms were spotless. We had two, one at the front, one at the back. Both had balconies but the one at the back only had a balcony within the eaves. So ask for a room at the front. Both rooms spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was traditional and very good indeed. There is an outside bar area which was lovely; a great space to sit in the sunshine or enjoy a drink in the evening. It's a little out of town so walking into town for dinner is not really an option unless you want a bit of a hike. But there is a restaurant at the hotel (didn't try but menu looked good). The hotel staff were helpful and spoke good English in case you don't speak German. In town, I can recommend the Hotel Krone Post for dinner, it was delicious, well priced and we were able to sit outside. There is also a mini golf opposite, with a good little cafe for drinks/ice creams/cake/snacks which we enjoyed earlier in the day. This was an excellent place to stay, and would do so again, so thanks to the previous reviewers!

Review 68:Contamination in our cornflakes, wire & fluff. Bottled water & shower gel only supplied for the first night, we stayed for four

Review 69:Friendliness of staff. Hotel style & decor. Excellent location, quiet area. Food generally to a very high standard. Would certainly recommend to family & friends & would stay there again if in the area

Review 70:Secluded location and a fun drive to get there. Try approaching this place from the opposite direction through the forestry roads! Quite the adventure!

Review 71:We liked everything about the place, Ludwig greeted us with a friendly smile, spoke good English and was very helpful, spacious bedroom and bathroom, balcony overlooking the valley and mountains.

Review 72:Tea/coffee things in the room would have been nice, however we did get these when we asked for them.

Review 73:Everything! Ludwig and Tatjana were amazing, the food was excellent (prepaid breakfast as well as dinner), the rooms were clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again and highly highly recommend this place.

Review 74:This was one of our favorite places during six weeks of travel. It's a beautiful old, family-run guest house with modernfacilities. The owners are very helpful, and the dinner and breakfastwere wonderful. Unfortunately, bad weather had closed the biergarten,so we will have to return.

Review 75:A very friendly small hotel, with parking on site. Room 10 was on the first floor, quite large, double glazed, with a good bathroom & a shared balcony - but no view because of the overhanging roof. If you want a view, ask for a room facing the valley. As expected, the restaurant was closed on on our first night (Mon) but they booked a table for us at the Rebstock a few hundred yards away where we had an excellent dinner. Breakfast on both mornings was an amazing buffet, everything topped up the moment it got low. Dinner on the 2nd night was good, with mein host discussing the menu with us & tailoring it to what we wanted & how much we could eat. Very good value.

Review 76:The location of the hotel is stunning and the rooms are wonderful. The room we had was large with a balcony and the bathroom was large and had everything you needed. The whole hotel is lovely and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice and there was a selection to choose from. We had an evening meal at the hotel and the food was wonderful and was excellent value for money. The views from the rooms were stunning. Would definitely go back and would highly recommend it.

Review 77:What a great find! The hotel is family run and has a great atmosphere. The room was spacious and had tasteful furniture. Big modern bathroom. No need to go anywhere else for dinner, the food is wonderful.

Review 78:Could have done with a kettle in room with coffee/tea facility.

Review 79:Hospitality was excellent. Cuisine absolutely fantastic. Generally service was great. Highly recommended.

Review 80:it was just perfect!

Review 81:This is the best gest house in the black forest! the owners are great and helpfull! they noticed that we are vegetarians, so every morning a vegetables bowl waited for us and it was very thoughtful! the room is very clean and comfortable with a nice balcony. the restaurant is nice and makes you feel at home. we booked for 3 nights and we stayed for 5 nights! we wanted more but there was no room for us. so don't hesitate! this is the best choice!!!!

Review 82:Hotel is placed in the middle of beautiful forest, clean and calm. Its resturant serves very good dishes, with good prices. Stuff is friendly and helpfull. Good value for money, and certainly a perfect place to spend a nice vacations or weekend in Black Forest.

Review 83:The stairs to the 2nd floor are steep, little bit difficult if you have heavy luggage.

Review 84:The warm hospitality, the rooms are nice & breakfast was very good. We highly recommend of their restuarant, they make delicious dishes.

Review 85:Nothing bad whatsoever.

Review 86:Such a great spot Host was superb The good at the guest house is amazing, tried many local dishes and loved them all! The host even showed me how to de-bone a trout (as I'd never done it.) Extremely friendly, great service- I would stay here again in an instant.

Review 87:we weren't told the restaurant is closed on monday

Review 88:great location , nice friendly welcome , great accommodation , and breakfast , super outside area and bar but bad weather meant we couldn't use it .

Review 89:It's a little difficult to find the place with the Car GPS -- not the hotel's fault.

Review 90:Highly recommended. Very nice and welcomming owners, the room was large and you could get a scenic beauty while sitting on the balcony. Wonderful breakfast and good wifi. We'd like spend more days here if have next German trip.

Review 91:not so much that we did not like anything, but on booking we did request a reservation for an evening meal, but on arrival we were told the restaurant did not open that evening. The proprietor did book us in at a hotel further up the road, which was o.k. except that it was quite a walk in the rain ( we did not want to drive so as we could have a drink).

Review 92:Beautiful guest-house in a wonderful location, very helpful and friendly owners made us feel very welcome and made our short stay in Simonswald worth every minute, the food was excellent.

Review 93:Very limited breakfast spread. Nothing to dislike at this place.

Review 94:Extremely helpful staff, we reached really late due to the closure and traffic on the highways because of heavy rains and flooding, but we were welcomed at mid night and given our room keys, in fact they called us on our phone to enquire why we were getting late, a rare gesture and we were really impressed. The next day too the lady enquired about our late arrival and asked us if we need anything special for the breakfast. Highly recommended hotel in Black forest with serene surroundings and scenic views from the balcony. will stay again for a longer time as we stayed only for one night.

Review 95:I can't think of anything I didn't like!

Review 96:This hotel is wonderful! You are surrounded by trees, rolling hills, cows, and the beautiful sound of rushing water. The rooms are very comfortable, and the balconies are very inviting, with a sweet table and chair set, and perfect views. The breakfast was delicious, it fully satisfied both vegetarians and meat eaters. The staff were very friendly, and very helpful. We will be visiting here again in the future, and would highly encourage others to enjoy their hospitality as well.

Review 97:I can honestly say that this is the only hotel review from 3 weeks inEurope that there is absolutely nothing I didn't like. Just theweather, but that's not the hotel's fault!

Review 98:Room was very spacious and cozy. Water pressure was good and showerstayed hot (it was unseasonably cold). Staff! Very friendly andwelcoming. The proprietress chatted with me in good English for 20 minafter dinner. Location. We spent 10 days in Germany and had a mix ofluxury hotels with B&Bs. This guesthouse was my favorite of the tripand I regret not having spent more time here. Even though the weatherwas cold and rainy the end of May, it was beautiful. Food. Dinner wasdelicious and a good portion - not too big or small.

Review 99:There was nothing we did not like. Our room had been recently remodeled and bathroom looked as if we were the first ones to use it. Room & Bath were new & had a nice balcony that you could sit out on & enjoy the view of forrest.

Review 100:If visiting the Triberg/Furtwagen area - this is the place to stay. The drive down to Simonswald is far more beautiful & scenic than the drive to Triberg. This was a quaint family operated B&B. The owners spoke good English. Breakfast was excellent & plentiful. While we did not eat dinner here -- the food being prepared smelled delicious. This was an excellent value for money.

Review 101:Highly recommended. The staff were friendly and helpful with suggestions of where to go for day trips. The room was large and very clean with a modern bathroom. Strong WIFI was present at no extra cost. The quaint restaurant featured German food that was nicely prepared and very tasty. The included breakfast had a lot of variety. This place had a lot of old world charm and warmth in a very lovely Black Forest setting that was conveniently located close to Freiburg. An added bonus was the staff spoke good English. I would come back here to stay again.

Review 102:The weather ... :-)

Review 103:The family running the hotel is really making you feel welcome. They are happy to recommend nice walks, offering their own private sleigh for fun in the mountains and even as the restaurant is closed, they manage to serve a delicious dinner for the "Hausgäste".

Review 104:Unfortunately the restaurant was closed and we were not notified untilarrival even though we had requested a table. We were travelling withour 2 year old and after a long journey in the car - getting back in itto find another restaurant was not appreciated. It was dissapointing asan on-site restaurant is our top priority.

Review 105:Good sized room and nicely located. Felt as though we were staying witha family not at a hotel.

Review 106:The facilities were beautiful, classic on the outside modern on theinside. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I didn't get his namebut the man who was there during the day/eve (fit, shaved head), had agood grasp of English and a dry sense of humor (which I love). I wassick while we were there (nothing to do with the beautiful surroundings)and he was very concerned about me. My only regret is that I couldn'tappreciate the amazing gourmet food that was prepared in the restaurant,

Review 107:Basic room with only bottle of water no hot drink facilities, mattresses very hard. Not the hotels fault but only one member of staff/family could speak english and all menus in German. We found that very few people in the Black forest region speak any english(I guess we should learn more languages)

Review 108:Very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Beautiful countryside. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others visiting the Black Forest.

Review 109:- Far from the highway (as transit hotel)

Review 110:- Real countryside german family run hotel with farm activity- good restaurant, with many local guests - very big room

Review 111:Beautiful view from our balcony. Delicious food served both for supper and breakfast. Very friendly and helpful service. The entire menu was translated for us so that we could make an informed choice when ordering our food. The trout we ordered was excellent.

Review 112:Excellent value for money, well run family hotel. Rooms very clean, comfortable and modern with all amenities. Breakfast and dinner also to a hgh standard. Would recommend.

Review 113:This property was welcoming, clean and professionally ran, however, a family run business. We loved our stay here with the resturant excellent ! If I was to be in the area again I would not stay anywhere else. Thank you for your excellent property.

Review 114:Great place! The family that runs the gasthaus is very friendly and accommodating and our room was clean and spacious. Food was excellent as well, we ate dinner both nights of our stay at the restaurant downstairs. I'd recommend it to anyone. :)

Review 115:Upon arrival, we were greeted by Ludwig Weis, the owner, who helped uswith our luggage and showed us our rooms. The inn is family owned andeveryone was very friendly. The breakfast was wonderful and in a cozydining room. The location was central to both Triberg and Freiburg. Wehad a view of the mountains and the sunset from our rooms. Beds werecomfortable. We would stay here again!!!
