Reviews for Altstadt-Hotel

Review 1:The rooms were hot and noisy from passing traffic.

Review 2:The staff was very pleasant and the rooms were lovely and clean. The Hotel is in a fantastic location, close to all points of interest. The breakfast was good.

Review 3:Staff was not friendly nor professional. Three times I visited the reception desk only to find it unmanned. Barkeep was unfamiliar with different whiskey/whisky brands and how to pour the drinks. Not only did the room lack an iron and board but there was none in the whole hotel. Television was circa 2000 and a whopping 12 inches. Street noise is expected in European cities, but the guest noise was also constant and loud. No toiletries nor in room coffee/tea service. Advertised free wifi only worked standing in the hall, and even then it was slow. No covered parking.

Review 4:Bed was solid and hotel was clean. Breakfast was above average selection. Secure and free parking.

Review 5:It was a little expensive but I suppose it is peak times with the Christmas markets taking place.

Review 6:Very central to the Christmas market. Breakfast was great. Free parking

Review 7:The breakfast was not very good (e.g. no bacon, no toaster). A bit of noise from street (taxis running their diesel engines outside of the hotel very early in the morning.)

Review 8:Great location. Efficient check-in. Clean.

Review 9:staff not really interested, had to wait for breakfast to be re-filled. Kitchen staff didn't seem pleased when I asked for this. Didn't like having to share table with strangers. Large breakfast tables. Tea was disgusting, don't know what it was

Review 10:Good location. Good room comfy bed. Nice breakfast

Review 11:Only bad thing was the pillows were very large and very hard, and there were no alternatives in the room to use. Had to sleep without pillows. There should be at least 2 to select from in this case.

Review 12:Very good location, friendly staff, modern bathroom, breakfast included. Free parking in a locked lot nearby.

Review 13:Booked in early to be told to come back - no problem. Came back at 3.30pm to be pointed to a lift with a key. After 3 passages and one flight of stairs we finally found our room - unmade! On returning to the reception we were told that if we did not like it we could go!!!! As we were tired after a day of travelling and walking the streets we swallowed the bitter pill and stayed - but only for the night even though we had booked for 2. Its hard to like anything about the hotel when treated like this, but i must say the breakfast is good.

Review 14:The location only!

Review 15:The WIFI was out our entire stay. While I understand it was beyond the control of the staff on duty their "I don't care at all" attitude was unwelcome. When we arrived to check in the registration desk was closed. There was a sign in German explaining that registration had to occur at a building across the street. Since this Hotel sells it's rooms to international guests it would be helpful to have those directions translated to assist non German speakers. The heat was on in every room ( radiators so they continued to emit heat even when turned Off) even though it was hot outside. It made the rooms unbearable.

Review 16:Great location. Great breakfast.

Review 17:the hotel was closed until March we were booked into the sister hotel across the road. We did not know until we arrived and would have appreciated if we had been informed when we booked. The sister hotel was very good.

Review 18:Here is a copy of the email I sent to the hotel. I have not received a reply. Dear Sir/Madam I am emailing you Following our stay with you on 15th December 2014. When checking out we are normally asked whether everything was ok or not, however when we stayed with you that didn't happen. This can make a big difference and resolve issues at the time. We feel that it's important to let you know about our stay so that the hotel can improve. We found the Hotel Altsadt was the most expensive on our trip by a long way but had the most dated decoration and the facilities were basic in comparison. We first stayed almost 10 years ago - the decoration doesn't seem to have changed in all this time but the price has kept rising. When we returned to the hotel in the evening we were thirsty. There was 1 bottle of water in the room for 2 of us. The mini bar was totally empty and we couldn't find any tea or coffee facilities. We called reception who advised they could offer us a drink if we went to reception but as we were wearing pyjamas this was inappropriate and especially disappointing as room service is advertised on booking.com. In such an expensive hotel we would expect there to be tea making facilities in the room or corridor, a stocked mini bar or perhaps room service. In addition we were troubled by the foul smell of drains from the bathroom which made it unpleasant to use. We also found that the wifi dropped out frequently and the signal was too weak to be useful. Again this was disappointing as booking.com advertises wifi in all areas. We look forward to hearing from you Kind regards

Review 19:The location is very convenient for exploring Trier

Review 20:WiFi was hard to connect to from perimeter rooms. Street noise from traffic in a.m. as I was in a room facing the street. This probably wouldn't be an issue if I had a room off the street.

Review 21:Location was great! Short walk to Porta Nigra, Dom Cathedral, Basilika, shops, Galerie, Karl Marx house, shops, and more shops. Great staff. Great breakfast. Lovely hotel. Nice view of Boulevard from front rooms. Free parking in gated car park.

Review 22:Small room with tiny bathroom, very small shower, room was too expensive, staff were not very enthusiastic

Review 23:Location is great, rooms are clean, superb breakfast, parking on site

Review 24:Traffic noise from the main road

Review 25:Very helpful to have on-site parking. Staff at reception were very helpful. When one of the party had electricity problems in the room, they voluntarily changed the room without fuss.

Review 26:No airco or ventilator in the room. It got pretty warm. Wifi signal was weak.

Review 27:Right next to Porta Negra and the city center of Trier. Good breakfast buffet Friendly staff. Free parking near the hotel. Clean room.

Review 28:Pillows are not comfortable.

Review 29:It's an old hotel, but has everything ones need

Review 30:Noise all ight under window from bar on street

Review 31:Friendly staff and great breakfast

Review 32:Not much variety for breakfast

Review 33:Staff were nice

Review 34:Wifi didn't work

Review 35:Hotel was very nice and rooms were excellent

Review 36:No air con WiFi did not work No fridge in room No safe in room

Review 37:Decent breakfast Comfy beds

Review 38:Need another pillow. Place feels a little run down.

Review 39:OK hotel in a decent location. Parking OK. Secure location, but shared.

Review 40:The WiFi was too slow to use.

Review 41:The breakfast was super.

Review 42:Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms.

Review 43:No air con, fridge ,safe or coffee making facilities. WiFi hardly works.Very expensive for what you get.

Review 44:Good breakfast. A short walk to the centre

Review 45:Separate beds not avaliable and the room was too hot

Review 46:Location and view from the room

Review 47:A non functioning minibar and fridge; single room was very small.

Review 48:Location, breakfast, service personnel

Review 49:The breakfast, the wi-fi, the cleanliness, the closeness to everything (e.g. Porta Nigra & Train Station).

Review 50:There was no mini bar wi-fi and the curtains were short with view to other hotels and buildings!!

Review 51:the excellent location and the parking

Review 52:Near Porta Negra, in the city centre, 5-10 min by foot from real station. Space and quiet room, comfortable bed.

Review 53:Instead of double bed, they have two signle beds

Review 54:Location Value for money

Review 55:No restaurant in the hotel for an evening meal.

Review 56:Very nice located with very friendly, helpfull stuff.

Review 57:staff were attentive to my request for a quiet room

Review 58:Room was very hot but location too noisy to have the windows open.

Review 59:Location excellent for exploring Trier. Great Breakfast.

Review 60:Although we got the code and password so that we should have been able to use our mobile phones and laptop, this was not possible in the room we were in as there was as good as no signal. We were offered to sit in the lobby and use our devices but that was not really something we wanted to do.

Review 61:We definitely liked the location and found staff very friendly and forthcoming. We had two appointments in Trier the day following our night there and were allowed to leave our car for free in the hotel's car park which we thought was very accommodating. Breakfast was good and the recommended meal menu in the sister hotel "Römischer Kaiser" was excellent and delicious. Definitely to be recommended!

Review 62:I tripped on the way into the shower room and then fell coming out (my own clumsiness I suppose). The other guests came in late and were very noisy (also not the fault of the inn). It smelled old, but it is, and an open window fixed that right up. A great value for the price and a super location.

Review 63:The Inn keeper was lovely. I don't think she could have been nicer. The decor was nice.

Review 64:The room was dirty and the bathroom had a terrible smell after urine. The staff was not interested in us and not friendly. We will never go back to this hotel.

Review 65:Wi-Fi was non-existent (at least in our room). It was a little expensive- but for the location and the quality we felt it was worth it.

Review 66:The location! It was very close to the downtown area- within a 5 minute walk to everywhere we wanted to go. The breakfast offered a very good selection every morning.

Review 67:Very hot in the rooms and no air-conditioning. Wifi doesn't work everywhere in the room.

Review 68:Very good location next to Porta Nigra and old town. Clean rooms. Nice and friendly staff.

Review 69:Even the hotel was not fully booked I got as a single traveler a small corner room with a very small window. That was much better in my first stay in the hotel and I wonder why they can't give me a better room in an empty hotel. Anyway the room was still OK.

Review 70:Very clean hotel and friendly staff. The breakfast was a real good German style breakfast.

Review 71:all was good apart from the breakfast manageress- she spoilt my whole visit and left me with a bitter taste. My mother who is special came to visit me in the hotel and was chased by staff telling us she need to pay for breakfast and she cannot come in without authorisation because of the house rules! The manageress need help! I would recommend a course in How to speak to paying customers- because there is a way to bring a message across and there is simple rudeness.

Review 72:Lady at the evening at front desk- went out of her way to organize me a hot chocolate

Review 73:Our rooms were really hot. Thermostat would not adjust. Had to keep the window open to try to cool it down so then we heard the street noise

Review 74:Great Location just steps from the Porta Nigra. The breakfast was good.

Review 75:While the secure parking was good, it was in a separate lot, about a block down the road, not connected to the hotel at all. The hotel does have free wifi, but only in the bar/restaurant area - couldn't get a signal in our room, and couldn't even get a signal in the lobby! The hotel definitely needs to be renovated, everything in the hotel seems a bit old and outdated.

Review 76:Excellent location, very close to city center.

Review 77:Could do with aircon in the room as traffic quite noisy till late evening if window left open when room hot. Single reception staff could do with some help when coach parties arrive. I arrived at same time as a large coach party and it took some time to get checked in as the girl tried to sort them all out on her own.

Review 78:Great location next to Roman gate and city centre bars, shops and restaurants. Good breakfast selection and clean comfortable room. Secure parking is good but a short distance from the hotel with no direct access to hotel. Would stay again.

Review 79:Breakfast wasn't sufficient. Too little coffee pots at breakfast. Very little hot water in shower first 2 days, Slow elevator.

Review 80:Easy to find. Friendly staff. Good room.

Review 81:The reception staff need a lesson in manners and helpfulness, they supply one pillow as standard and reception staff refuse to go to the housekeeping stores to fetch others saying they have no more in the hotel.

Review 82:The hotel is close to the city centre with easy access to the shops, the parking is secure just down the road, a little difficult to find, we didn't eat in the hotel in the evening there are lots of restaurants nearby, eat early if you want desert though as they close at 10pm!

Review 83:Internet was a big slow. It was pretty hot up in our your (probably an unusually hot day).

Review 84:Good location, good breakfast, easy parking. Internet access was a plus.

Review 85:No aircon and it was very hot during our stay; no coffee/tea facilities available in the rooms; accessing the Internet was NOT clear - didn't see card. Staff seemed irritated when asked to help

Review 86:Centrally situated; large rooms; really good breakfast; no hairdriers available in the bathrooms

Review 87:The wi fi was awful! It only worked consistently on the lobby. It was a really difficult issue traveling with a teenager. In addition the staff had to give us each our own password which made it difficult to have to pull out the numbers to log in, which you had to do every time you wanted to use the internet!

Review 88:The room and bathroom were fairly large and accommodated a family of 3 with no problem. However the poor wi fi and tv made it a negative when traveling with a teenager.

Review 89:The room wasn't the cleanest... there were dust bunnies everywhere. The room was much more basic than I thought it would be for the price.

Review 90:The people were quite accommodating and it was very close to the Porta Nigra, town centre, & tourist sites. We also liked the private gated parking. The free wifi was great too.

Review 91:location, close to the city centre, 1 min from Porta Negra. good breakfest, parking available

Review 92:Nothing

Review 93:Great location good secure parking very freindly helpful staff

Review 94:No item!

Review 95:Location Helpful staff Good Breakfast Eas-Access Parking Lot Comfortable Beds

Review 96:BED BAD. The single beds were not fixed. Too expensive. Poor breakfast. The staff are not friendly

Review 97:It's close to the old town

Review 98:The queue for a breakfast table to be made available. No air conditioning in room.

Review 99:Free parking and location to the centre.

Review 100:In central Trier historic and shopping district. Nice size room. Good breakfast. Free parking.

Review 101:the coffee....

Review 102:Wonderful breakfast, room panorama, flowers on balconies and hyper-friendly staff.

Review 103:Good location (not far from the train station). Room was wery clean.

Review 104:Hairdryer would have been nice

Review 105:Good position / Parking / Comfort / Staff
