Reviews for Hotel La Tartana

Review 1:No staff on arrival or departure, and no phone number. No hot water (though we tried for 6+ minutes), poor internet, not very clean courtyard .No one to speak with on problems. Average hotel, very high price. Hosts should stay with running their restaurant, which you can enjoy as a non-guest. Would not stay if free.

Review 2:There is a very good restaurant onsite, with beautiful meal presentation for dinner.

Review 3:A Charming boutique hotel ideal for couples. Our room had a beautiful sea view and its own little balcony. Walking distance to both both the village & beach.

Review 4:Such a lovely hotel, with very nice people who really care. We borrowed some beach towels and additionally were even offered an umbrella. We especially liked the breakfast on the terrasse: croissants, coffee, eggs, fruit salat... all we needed was there. Special thanks to the lovely Maria :) We had a great stay!

Review 5:-

Review 6:Everything!everybody was genuinely nice and friendly.Excellent breakfast, fantastic service, nice cosy room, everything I could wish for a calm and cosy holiday.

Review 7:The room was pretty but had no natural light. Breakfast wasn't great - expected more given the reputation of the restaurant. Think the restaurant is probably the focus of attention.

Review 8:Quaint and authentic Spanish house - lovely courtyard.

Review 9:the breakfast was great; the restaurant for dinner was not great. I think the chef was trying too hard - that is, it was a bit faux gourmet

Review 10:lovely view, quiet, great staff, especially the woman who served breakfast

Review 11:location by the main road, noisy dusty walk to the town and beach. Traffic noise eveident most of the town

Review 12:small size, interested and helpful managers and staff

Review 13:Everything was fine but little things like lack of biscuits with the cheese board. Nobody available at the time of departure for us to pay the bill.

Review 14:Dining experience, very comfortable area to relax and eat, outside.

Review 15:Bedroom door very insecure, supposed to be "aged" but anyone could open it by just pressing against it. Breakfast poor, I asked for a fried egg but was told I would have to pay extra! So cold scrambled eggs and cold bacon!

Review 16:Downsides - as above.

Review 17:Loved the decor, spectacular food, gorgeous terraces & gardens (renovated & improved further since our last visit. Downsides - traffic noise (a low glass screen in front of some of the terrace woul help), little privacy in room 6 (you can see through the blinds & curtains from inside & out, straight onto the terrace), v small bathroom in room too, food v good & wonderfully presented but a bit pricey. Overall though this is still a great little hotel, but probably only for a one night stay.

Review 18:the breakfast starts at 9, which may be a bit late of you are planning early activities around the area

Review 19:good room. perfect breakfast with plenty of variety. quiet neighbourhood. with respect the comments about walking along the road, it is no more than 100m, with plenty of space to walk through. also, to get la herradura, you must cross the road, and at the curve there is the traffic lights plus the curve allows you visibility in both directions. we did not bother about this issue

Review 20:I would like to keen this georgeos place for myself. But in order for the owners to sustaiin a business I will tell everybody abort this hotel.

Review 21:A perfect stay This is the most perfect place to stay. Wonderfukl rooms and wonderfull food.

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:Everything. Mandy and Jed were wonderful hosts who were always available to ensure that their guests were very well looked after. Their staff are excellent, very friendly, helpful and polite. By far the best place we have stayed in during our 2 month visit to Spain. If in La Herradura stay here you will not be disappointed. We will be back.

Review 24:Was set back off the main coast road which was exceedingly busy. This had to be crossed and then a walk down a steep hill to get into La Herrradura for the beach, restaurants etc. the food in the hotel is fantastic but expensive, so we only ate there one night as a 'treat'.

Review 25:The views were fantastic. Very friendly owners and we were made to feel welcome straight away. Lovely hotel

Review 26:No hot water before 8.20am. I would have liked a bottle of water per day provided for the kettle instead of having to find shops for it. We could not have breakfast before 9am.

Review 27:Comfortable big bed, lovely bathroom. staff at breakfast accomadating and friendly. The buffet breakfast was varied ,enjoyable .

Review 28:We liked the set up of the hotel with the rooms around an open central courtyard. The terraces at the front were a wonderful place to sit and have breakfast as well as few the ocean. The ability to have a meal in the terrace restaurant without going into the town was also a big advantage. Overall a very good boutique restaurant.

Review 29:Tranquil atmosphere, beautiful courtyard with fountain. Rooms tastefully decorated and furnished. Beautiful tiered garden with views of the sea where you could dine. Welcoming staff. Amazing restaurant menu and tasty, well-prepared and beautifully presented food.

Review 30:Due to us not having the use of a car the hotel was a little difficult to find and required crossing a main road. However once we found our way around this was of little concern to us and all drivers were courteous to those walking.

Review 31:The owners and staff were all extremely friendly and informative. The facilities were very clean and the beds comfortable. The onsite restraint was excellent and deserves the exceptional reviews it attracts. The views over the bay are wonderful. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to other travellers

Review 32:To access the hotel you needed to walk along and across a very busy road. It took me 10 minutes when I arrived to find someone to check me in. Later when I went for a walk although I had a key to the outer door I could not open it due to being bolted the other side. I had to phone the owner to let me in who was in a building next door. In the morning I got up at 8 am but there was no electricity and had to wait for someone to arrive at the hotel to rectify the problem. The dinner menu was very expensive so I did not eat there. Overall I feel the quality of the hotel could be better for the prices it charges..

Review 33:The owners were friendly The garden was pretty The breakfast had variety . .

Review 34:Leaving!

Review 35:Great hotel in the lovely town of La Herradura. How this is just a 1 star is beyond belief. Rooms are lovely, AC is good, wifi is great, staff are lovely and the food is nothing short of magnificent. If you are a "foodie" do yourself a big favour and go stay here, I promise you will thank me!

Review 36:bathroom was very cramped. Bath towels were small. Could not get anything to eat, not even a sandwich or a bag of crisps, when we arrived at 10.00 pm.

Review 37:hotel is attractive and the room was nicely decorated. Bed was comfortable. Air conditioning managed to cope with high temperature - just!

Review 38:Setting is lovely, rooms beautifully decorated. We had an evening meal which was excellent. The staff cannot do enough to help. We are already planning our next visit.

Review 39:Busy road in front

Review 40:enthusiastic welcome by Mary and very keen to please. great food Quaint decor comfortable bed. Lots of hot water Jed very helpful. Provided sun lounges I would stay again and recommend it wholeheartedly

Review 49:General feeling was very friendly and welcoming

Review 50:Room facilities Comfortable bed The amazing food Romantic setting for our celebration meal The friendly helpful staff Parking

Review 51:Difficult walking the last section to the hotel . No sidewalk traffic close .ver

Review 52:The whole ambience was delightful.

Review 53:nothing

Review 54:everything

Review 55:located on a main road so this made it difficult to walk into nearby La Herradura.

Review 56:comfortable room with a nice view

Review 57:Every thing was spot on

Review 58:The lack of parking facilities

Review 59:The location and the shape of the hotel

Review 60:The main road to cross over to walk into the town centre.

Review 61:Love the area, La Herradura main town a short walk away. Hotel very easy to find.

Review 62:The feeling of being a valued guests for whom nothing was too much trouble

Review 63:Liked everything.

Review 64:Location, staff, breakfast, bedroom. Everything.

Review 65:Great staff, good Spanish breakfasts and excellent wine.

Review 66:The staff, Jed and Amanda were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, the room was nice and comfortable.

Review 67:Terrace could be enjoyed at all times Courtyard Welcoming and enthusiastic staff Décor détails Wine

Review 68:Great staff. Fantastic food. Wonderful atmosphere

Review 69:Nothing to complain about

Review 70:All good Restaurant.....no need to go out

Review 71:Crossing the fairly fast road to get to town, but still very close to town.

Review 72:Breakfast was amazing!

Review 73:No pool

Review 74:Service was great and we slept really well Would definetly recommend

Review 75:It is a very friendly and relaxing \Hotel with a great restaurant and views.

Review 76:The service was slapstick and shoddy. We specifically booked a room with a private terrace with sea view which we did not get. Neither did we receive an apology for this. The food was appalling! A bernaise sauce that did not pour, a limp excuse of a caesar salad and rubbery chips. The trio of fish was a joke. A tiny portion of bland fish with the third element being just two prawns. The "Chef" needs a lesson on how to cook! A hugely disappointing experience. We certainly won't be recommending La Tartana to our friends nor our many clients.

Review 77:Shame outdoor patio area was not open in afternoon but it was windy so this may have been the reason

Review 78:food was amazing ! Room with terrace had lovely view and was beautiful.

Review 79:Mandy & Jed are too casual in their management. They are oft absent hosts. Hotel is locked up tight as soon as cleaning staff leave. Guests arrive to note on door which says call to register. Can't use patio in afternoon because it is locked.

Review 80:Facility is lovely. Staff are wonderful and attentive when there. Breakfast was very good.

Review 81:Lovely boutique hotel with a real Spanish authenticity. Wonderful view from our room and pretty gardens to relax. Food amazing. A revisit is definite ..

Review 82:No one on reception on arrival. Hotel bar and lounge facilities locked-off in the evening with no access meant being confined to room. There was a generally casual attitude by the owners with little concern for our well-being whilst in the hotel. Noisy music played with little thought given to hotel guests. Out of town location of hotel meant long walk along dark and unlit road to restaurants in evening. Not sure would return or recommend to others.

Review 83:The staff were tremendous - helpful, friendly and always with a warm greeting. Breakfasts invariably good with wide choice on offer.

Review 84:Beautiful building with lovely interior courtyard and lots of terraces - all decorated with great charm. Excellent food in the restaurant both in the evening and morning. Fantastic value due to the off-season special offer! Even had parking. Definitely can recommend.

Review 85:Bar and restaurant closed on a Sunday night.

Review 86:Beautiful old traditional Andalucian building, probably once a grandhouse with traditional courtyard with central fountain and rooms leadingoff. Mezzanine floor overlooking courtyard with rooms leading off. Allareas are absolutely charming and beautifully decorated in sympathetic, calming colours and style. The outside terraces are idyllic looking outto the sea. Owners Jed and Mandy (Amanda) are fantastic - excellentcompany and eager to do anything they can to make your stay in LaHerradura the best possible. Other staff are friendly, charming andeager to please. Restaurant is rated as the best in La Herraduraalthough menu is greatly reduced in the winter months.

Review 87:There was nothing that I disliked. I went to enjoy myself and I did!

Review 88:I liked the ambience, view, special circumstances surrounding my visit Chritmas time).

Review 89:If on foot, some 200m of way to beach is not pedestrian friendly and disturbes a feeling of cozy atmosphere of the hotel.

Review 90:Interior details, view from room and restaurant

Review 91:A little traffic noise as overlooking N340 and dustbin lorries overnight disturbed sleep but we are used to living in a very quiet location so perhaps we notice it more than most.

Review 92:We were upgraded to a better room which was very nice and very clean. The restaurant is very good with a nice menu and good wines. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Review 93:The English expat owners were quite brash and inappropriate which we were not expecting on our Spanish holiday. They stayed up drinking outside our window until 2.30am one night - the window with a sea view that we had paid premium for. The breakfast was disappointing - cereal and a small bowl of croissants. I'm not sure what the owners think they are offering at 110euros/night

Review 94:Parking and proximity to beach

Review 95:The very precarious "free parking", located along the steep roadside or the overfill parking at a hostel, then walk to hotel from a dangerous highway roadside.

Review 96:Rooms are clean, good water pressure, plenty of hot water, air conditioning.

Review 97:A lovely hotel, the food is without question the best we have eaten in Spain. Mandy and Jed who run La Tartana are warm, hospitable and helpful. Will definitely go again

Review 98:Not much wrong here. Perhaps design favoured over practicality in some areas, e.g. shower room, too few surfaces to place washbags, etc. Food was overpriced - but location was magical.

Review 99:Helpful staff. Friendly, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Clean, cool rooms. Good food. Beautiful views.

Review 100:Our room was next to the terrace and it was a little noisy for a baby trying to sleep

Review 101:Beautiful views and the best restaurant I have been to for a long time

Review 102:We simply loved this place

Review 103:We were looking for a relaxing place to stay. La Tartana offered everything we could dream of; lovely views from the terrace, clean room, excellent food and wine served at the lovely terrace with white table clothes and candlelights. We will be back!

Review 104:-breakfast could be available earlier (before 09:30) -need a bit more light in room

Review 105:charming, affordable, great location near beach/village, friendly and helpful management/staff, clean, beautifully decorated room. In general very nice!

Review 106:Wonderful family run hotel in the middle of a totally unspoilt region of Spain. Great location for travel to Granada and other regions. The staff at the hotel were exceptionally friendly and went out of their way to make their guests feel comfortable and relaxed. Great cuisine. Very charming decor with a traditional touch. A very spanish location with easy access to major tourist sites.

Review 107:Parking is possible but the hotel is on a steep hillside (which is one it's attractions) so maneuvering is a little tricky.

Review 108:Very pretty location; excellent food both for breakfast and in the main restaurant; pleasant and helpful staff.

Review 109:Breakfast a little disappointing.

Review 110:A delightful Hotel with a lovely room and great views of the sea. The food was amazing. The proprietors were very accommodating and pleasant. It was very close to the village and beach areas.

Review 111:Being moved from our booked room (1) which was larger without notice. Incredible amount of night time disturbance from pack of dogs on neighbouring property. The web site not mentioning that the hotel is not in the town but on the approach road. The hotel being understaffed meaning that the staff on duty were working at hectic pace creating a feeling of chaos and confusion. Poor breakfast even by continental standards. No prepared fruit, no fruit juice, no hot option, vending machine coffee. Just corn flakes, bread, jam and croissants.

Review 112:Excellent food. Pretty room (5) but small. Hard working and friendly staff

Review 113:Beautiful building furnished authentically with a lovely view and our own private terrace. The garden restaurant is outstanding and the staff and service excellent.

Review 114:Really hard to find if you dont know where to look..........

Review 115:Clean & Tidy and a very friendly and enthusiastic staff and owners.Very pleasant eating on the terrace with an excellent menu.........

Review 116:Rather small room if fitting in an extra bed. We thought fromdescription that it was closer to the beach, but it ended up meaningnothing. It is a 5 min walk and the hotel was worth it.

Review 117:The hotel has a very, very good restaurant in a nice outdoorflowersurrounded atmosphere- and wonderful owners/staff.

Review 118:Nothing. Great deal for the money.

Review 119:Excellent service and a beautiful location. I can't say enough about this hotel. We came here for the snorkeling in La Herradura and we weren't disappointed. My wife loved the charm and cleanliness of the hotel and the wonderful dinner on the balcony overlooking the ocean. The couple that runs the place is very likeable and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 120:There wasn't anything we didn't like. Our room was lovely, although there is only one room with a little terrace, which we would love next time..

Review 121:The hotel is very pretty, very quirky, with lots of character, the owners and the staff, go out of their for you in order you enjoy your stay, and we actually felt part of the team, we had a lot of laughs with them. I like the fact the hotel is very small, the restaurant is wonderful, food to die for, excellent chef and team, Jed, Mandy and Jonathon all lovely people, all the staff in fact. Although it is very small and rustic, there is everything there you need, five minute walk from the beach, lots going on, and short drive to other little towns, which Jed the owner, was more than happy to take us to. would definiately go back again and soon.

Review 122:Too bad for the road... ...to avoid being disturb by the noice... travel with earplugs

Review 123:Pleasant hotel, nice garden Very friendly staff Only passing bye so just stayed 2 nights. Booked cheeper room but rather small specially with 2 big sized suitcases so changed for bigger more expensive, see view room. Very nice!! Extended breakfast, certainly when we got the second morning what we asked the first one like: spanish cheese instead of dutch one, same amount of fruits, viennoiserie, etc...

The Fine Print
