Reviews for Hotel Port Mahón

Review 1:Tables being set for lunch whilst eating breakfast.

Review 2:Lovely room overlooking sea- comfortable bed, tea maker and mini bar, large seating area, good bathroom

Review 3:Given inward looking room rather than sea view although hotel empty Nothing restocked in room. Set up for single occupancy so had to keep asking for everything . Disappointing service

Review 4:Location

Review 5:There was no running water in the bathroom in our room when we arrived (although it was fixed within an hour or so), then there was a burst pipe on the first floor and no hot water on our last day. This meant that we were woken up by noisy banging reverberating around the hotel at 7am presumably while they fixed it and we couldn't use the shower before we left that day. To be fair the hotel gave us a 10% discount which we were grateful for but to be honest we would rather have had a hot shower!! Maybe it was the time of year (November) but there was no atmosphere to the hotel and it felt a little "soul less". I would have had someone manning the bar and some gentle music playing in the bar area to encourage people to stay in....

Review 6:The location and views were fantastic. We had a harbour facing view and it was a great base for the restaurants and shops in Mahon and close to the airport. Friendly staff and good value at this time of year.

Review 7:Choose rooms with sea views. Beds can be too firm. Check air con before unpacking: mine had a broken thermostat.

Review 8:Perfect position with exceptional view of Mahon Harbour entrance. Easy access to the port down steep steps; reasonable walk to town. The hotel is quiet, well run, and comfortable. But some rooms need upgrading. Excellent buffet breakfast. Quiet and excellent staff.

Review 9:Absolutely nothing nearby eg shops or cafes, and quite a walk into the town - so not as central as I'd expected, and very 'dead' atmosphere. Worst thing about hotel was the food - breakfast was okay but evening and lunch menus poor, eg worst Gazpacho I've ever had, salty with lumps of grisly ham in; salmon served with no potatoes but masses of fried onions and peppers; pile of lamb chops (ie bones with not much meat on). Restaurant virtually deserted and no atmosphere. I appreciate it's out of season - whole town of Mahon seemed to have no decent food in, all little cafes and nothing but sandwiches and cakes or chicken and chips - I know it's not high season but not one single 'tourist menu' anywhere with anything nice, eg fish, steak, paella, prawns, squid, not even pasta or pizza.

Review 10:Very attractive hotel and location, beautiful views, pretty pool (tried it but very cold despite November sunshine). Enjoyed quiet sunny garden, nice room with balcony, felt safe, staff 'surface friendly' but didn't seem to want to chat or help much, even though very few guests. Close to airport and the place I was visiting, lots of taxis available.

Review 11:Our original room - booked as a double with balcony and sea view -was far too cramped and would have spoiled our five night stay. Once we had upgraded to a junior suite the hotel met all other expectations.

Review 12:Once we had changed to a junior suite - everything

Review 13:We struggled to get tea or coffee from the machines at breakfast.

Review 14:We were warmly welcomed. Check in was quickly and simply dealt with. Staff in the restaurant were helpful. Room was clean, comfortable, restful.

Review 15:pool not heated so too cold to use. Free street parking - don't park under the trees or birds cover your car with poo.

Review 16:Great location comfort view bed breakfast and service Free street parking

Review 17:i think it could do with a refurbish, its a bit like being in a time warp of how Spanish hotels were in the 80's/90's

Review 18:fabulous location, reception staff very helpful and friendly

Review 19:The plug in the washbasin of our bathroom didn't fit properly so water never stayed in the basin.

Review 20:Lovely view from the terrace particularly when having breakfast. Proximity to centre of Mahon and buses without actually being in the centre. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 21:The breakfast buffet needed a really good omlette to give it some umph and i felt the staff need to be a little bit more friendly in the sense of more smiles and perhaps asking if i had, had a good day, having said that i appreciate that the whole sense of the place is very much one of privacy and quiet - so perhaps it's a fine line.

Review 22:It was very quiet, traditional and peaceful, lovely building and excellent location. The staff did their job in a professional manner and everything was very clean to the point where handles of jugs in the buffet service were continuously being cleaned. The evening buffet seemed to be excellent value compared with other restaurants with live music and what seemed like local couples coming along to jive :) Lovely clean pool situated with great views. I would recommend this hotel to anyone but particularly those who would like sanctuary.

Review 23:Excellent caring staff giving a great family run atmosphere without any of the impersonal corporate rubbish we have been conditioned to accept as normal nowadays. Excellent and will book again

Review 24:The beds were really basic quality and the bedroom key didn't work-twice. Wifi was difficult to access as too many people subscribed.

Review 25:I liked the old fashioned charm teamed with the contemporary touches of outside areas. The hotel had something of a different era about it - in a good way. Exceptionally calm and relaxing. The bar terrace is a great place to take in the view and enjoy a very well put together gin and tonic.

Review 26:Checking-in was a bit slow and the reception person seemed a bit confused. Air conditioning could be a bit stronger, we would've enjoyed if we could set the room a couple of degrees colder.

Review 27:Good location with easy access to port and centre. Beautiful views over the port. We had to leave very early and they were flexible to accommodate our request of a quick cold breakfast before the restaurant opened. Room was very clean and shower full of pressure.

Review 28:Having to pay €4 for tea and coffee sachets in the room each day at reception . No car park, although there was ample street parking available

Review 29:The View from the room across the harbour was stunning. The choice of food good, and entertainment on the terrace several times a week.

Review 30:Although it was out of season the hotel barstools have ess been open more regularly. Although there was a kettle in the room they only pop provided a one night welcome pack you then had to buy sachets coffee/ tea from hotel, not expected from a four star hotel. Pillows were not comfortable for a good night's sleep.

Review 31:The hotel is situated 20 minutes walk from the centre and parking was easy and free. Sea view room zealously view wake up too. Reception staff werebothfriendly and helpful.

Review 32:they have breakfast timing start 7.30 am when you get early flight which is 8.50 departure you can not avail breakfast inspite of our request that we are veg and do not need much they could not arrange anything even with prior request lastly we could get one crossont and one fruit in our hand which we have to eat at airport after our check in

Review 33:Rusty rotting lights outside, cracked leaky canopy, worn, split and dirty carpets, creaky, jolting lift, old fashioned vynal headboard. A wifi code needed for each device. Off-putting hot (warm) cooked breakfast. NO WAY is this 4* - at best a poor 3* in my opinion! Might explain why there's no name over the place!

Review 34:The view and the easy parking outside

Review 35:The English channels on the TV were only available in the morning. The bathroom facilities were inadequate for a double room - the basin was fitted into a small top surface and there was no place in the room to unpack a sponge bag. The hairdryer was connected just by the basin - very unsafe. The ventilation in the bathroom did not work and we were informed that it did not work in any of the rooms! The bedside cabinets were very poor quality with just one small drawer which fell out if not used very carefully. There were no other chests of drawers in the room, which would have made a much better single with more furniture, or perhaps a traditional double bed would have been better than the 2 3ft singles pushed together. Most hotels now use duvets but that is a personal preference.

Review 36:Loved the location and the view down the harbour from our bedroom. The overall ambiance of the hotel still resembled its past elegance and was very pleasant to be in.

Review 37:There's nothing to dislike except having to leave to go home!

Review 38:We love the peaceful and beautiful location with its easy walk into the pretty town centre. Many restaurants are available just down on the harbour if required. The hotel staff are always so helpful and friendly and the big terrace next to the pretty swimming pool has such a wonderful view.

Review 39:There was an English bridge club and rambling club staying so as soon as dining room opened they started queuing. Take a drink to the terrace and relax an hour. Lovely buffet refreshed often so take it easy!!

Review 40:Ideally situated just about the harbour. Fantastic views of the liners going in and out. Ideal terrace for a sundowner. Walk down the MANY steps to a great port and fabulous restaurants. Lovely staff.

Review 41:Pool area mediocre Quality of dinner buffet Extra charge for late checkout Small fee for room safe

Review 42:Our upgrade to a suite room The balcony facilities Breakfast buffet

Review 43:Bath could have been newer. Otherwise very little to dislike.

Review 44:Generous buffet meals, breakfast particularly. Staff very helpful and knowledgable. Quiet rooms.

Review 45:The impression was dull. The decoration throughout was bland - like anybudget hotel in the world. We expected more - something different, something special to compliment the building. Small things were missing- no tissues or make-up mirror in the bathroom for instance . .

Review 46:The hotel is in a unique location in Menorca. Close to town, the portand restaurants. The building has many beautiful original features. Thestaff are courteous and friendly.

Review 47:Grass cutting and leaf blowing at 6am was disappointing. No soap or individual shower products. Buffet breakfast was poor quality.

Review 48:Junior suite was very nice. Large room with patio. Modern decor.

Review 49:Having stayed in many hotels in various countries I have to say I was disappointed with the lack of toiletries in the bathroom. All hotels I have stayed in supply shampoo, conditioner, body lotion etc. and stock the bathroom daily. As a result I was unable to wash and condition my hair properly. Having said that this is the only fault I can find in your hotel.

Review 50:The location was excellent with stunning views across the harbour. It was easy to get to the centre (short walk) or to get to the harbour front the convenience of a lift a short walk away. Our room was comfortable and clean although if we were to return we would book a room with a view.

Review 51:The stairs

Review 59:Buffet breakfast acceptable but not buffet dinner ,it's nice to be waited on..

Review 60:Good location and friendly staff

Review 61:Rooms are very basic. No character

Review 62:Hotel has changed and lacks character.

Review 63:Quaint, almost "Fawlty Tower"-like small-ish hotel.

Review 64:We were upgraded to a suite and the room was beautiful ...The view from the suite was amazing.

Review 65:LocAtion and views

Review 66:Surly, unfriendly staff poor food and paper thin walls. Checked out after one night, couldn't stand the place

Review 67:Not Much

Review 68:Excellent views from the terrace. It was my wife's birthday and they sent a bottle of Brut champagne.

Review 76:Everything!

Review 77:Reception staff pleasant and efficient but not exactly friendly.

Review 78:upgrade to a suite, magnificent.

Review 79:Horrible bed, small bathroom with a bad shower and poor WiFi service. They charge a deposit for pool towels!

Review 80:Pool and bar-- good location.

Review 82:Would suggest that fresh water is put in the fridge every day.

Review 83:The location mainly, it was perfect.

Review 84:The air conditioning

Review 93:Member of staff told another guest the name of my partner as he used to work in Thailand

Review 94:Wifi not very reliable

Review 95:Very nice staff, comfortable bed, location, view

Review 96:Mattresses a little hard

Review 97:Staff all speak excellent English and very helpful. Breakfast buffet superb

Review 98:Relaxed atmosphere and friendly helpful staff

Review 99:The breakfast area is to small and badly organised The hotel needs more outside tables and more staff on duty

Review 100:Location of hotel and peaceful

Review 101:Nothing

Review 102:Location and views Breakfast

Review 103:a bit more variation on the dinner menu. Perhaps a grill option

Review 104:Beautiful and central location. Friendly and helpful staff

Review 105:No dislikes at all.

Review 106:We loved everything about this hotel. Staff very efficient and friendly, breakfast excellent choice. Fantastic location

Review 107:We loved the location, water views, pool, bar service and food service. The staff was very friendly and helpful, we met many fun guests

Review 108:Nothing!

Review 109:Proximity to the Port

Review 110:Carpets were tired, but all in all an ejoyable few days.

Review 111:Position, pool, terrace, gardens.

Review 112:The staff were efficient but didn't really engage with the guests.

Review 113:Sitting on the Terrace watching the harbour and the boats coming and going.

Review 114:Very comfortable and quite. I will come back in Hotel Port Mahon!

Review 115:Nothing.......only leaving!!!

Review 116:The views were wonderful. Service excellent. Wonderful breakfast very good choice......even Cava!!!

Review 117:Room was comfortable but sparsely furnished. Plenty of hanging space but a notable lack of drawers. Lunch and dinner menus were mediocre - albeit they were priced accordingly and cheap. We preferred to eat elsewhere.

Review 118:The supplement for a room facing the harbour was well worth it. The view is fantastic. Plenty of on street parking in the vicinity (but of course our stay was off season).

Review 119:We thought the bedroom was spartan. I don't think I have ever been in a bedroom before in a decent hotel which did not have a single picture on any of its walls. it was minimalist in the extreme. the corridors were the same. the only decoration in our corridor to the bedroom was a large, red fire extinguisher. It was more like an office block.

Review 120:We very much like the dining room and the view over the harbour and the morning sun streaming in at breakfast time.. We also liked the view from our bedroom again across the water.

Review 121:I like the location of the hotel, i can not say to much about the hotel because i was there in the low sesons. Anway i enjoy my small holiday at hotel port mahon.

Review 122:room - poor quality, no coffee making facilities. poor towels breakfast - stale bread, tinned fruit and bottled water that was topped up from the tap

Review 123:great location & helpful staff shower room to use for late check out good TV channels

Review 124:Splendid location overlooking the port. Friendly staff. The breakfast bar (without cooked food) was available on our day of departure, a Sunday, hours before normal service started.
