Reviews for Hotel Rural El Patio

Review 1:The room was rather small, but causy. Wifi inside the room was rather bad. Even in the courtyard it was very slow, enough for mails but not much more. You pay for the charm and the location. It is probably 3star comfort, not 5!

Review 2:This hotel is an old Banana farm. The place has plenty of character and charm and is situated in the middle of banana plantations. The inner courtyard where you can sit and have a drink, check your mail or just read a book is very very pleasant and beautifull. Good location to visit nearby Garachico and Icod. Very helpful service.

Review 3:Delightful, historical hotel with fabulous views and good facilities in very spacious grounds set among the banana plantations. An escape from the modern world. Very relaxing with friendly hosts, we felt at home immediately.

Review 4:Hard to find , specially during the night time. You need to have a car f you want to see the neighbourhood and villages.

Review 5:Nice and quiet hotel, excellent and friendly staff - we really enjoyed our stay!

Review 6:Difficult to find. Remember to take the El Guincho exit & not continue on to Garachico.

Review 7:Beautiful patio, gardens, friendly helpful staff. Great views. Good breakfast.

Review 8:Poor wifi in the common places Limited possibilities to eat during the day and in the evening (2 times per week dinner in hotel)

Review 9:Quiet, nice and beautiful location Friendly Staff Good breakfast Good swimming pool and other places with nice view on the ocean Possibility of walks in the surrounding Charming hotel but choose to be in the principal house instead of patio II

Review 10:We stayed in Annexe and needed special wi-fi device, which we had to position in the window.

Review 11:Good location in quiet area in banana plantation. Right on the coast, and convenient for exploring north-western towns and areas. Able to get snacks, coffee etc at any time via honesty system. Good breakfast.

Review 12:Only a small critique: The WiFi is quite slow and the signal ist only in the Patio strong enough

Review 13:Beautiful old building arrangement in the middle of a banana plantation. several buildings, nice gardens, pool, tennis court a.s.o. The family takes a high effort to keep it up. Look at the details in the rooms, especially the community building at the patio- it looks like a museum! Breakfast is alright! The Hotel is perfect for individual traveling and relaxing... away from the big tourist places. Don't expect TV, but that would make it only worse as it is. Also the close town of Garachico is very nice, good restaurants, many locals

Review 14:Great place to stay to relax and enjoy the beautiful north side of Tenerife. The hotel is an old manor in the middle of a banana plantation and is simply amazing. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back next year. Thanks to the great staff who were very helpfull.

Review 15:WiFi is freely available, but sadly a good connection is only possible when staying close to the reception.

Review 16:Staff very kind and helpful. Good facilities such as swimming pool and tennis court. Surroundings (banana plantation, the ocean and the view of the Teide) are gorgeous. The superior room has a very comfy bed and spacious bathroom (but no bath, as mentioned on the website). It's lovely to have breakfast in the garden.

Review 17:Our only slight frustration was no air con in the room but with the bedroom room open and the windows this was definitely bearable. In my opinion you need to have a car for this hotel if you want to see the towns and beaches but if you do it's awesome!!!

Review 18:The staff were very accommodating, even lending us some money on the first day as we forgot to bring euros. The location is amazing and it is very easy to explore the nearby towns which are beautiful with a car.

Review 19:Flies - but we were on a farm so to be expected.

Review 20:Lovely old place in the middle of a banana plantation. Very quiet and relaxed. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good. Honesty bar. No TV in rooms gave us a break from UK election news. Excellent fresh fish at the restaurant-bar a short walk away. Bus stop also at end of the drive - hourly bus service to local towns. Lovely marked out walks through the plantation. Wifi fine, but only in common areas. Lovely gardens with pleasant places to sit.

Review 21:My only slight (personal) criticism was that we had a high-tog synthetic duvet on our bed, which I found too hot and uncomfortable, though my partner didn't mind it. We were finally given 2 single feather duvets 2 nights before we left! A delicious, unpretentious dinner was served 2 nights a week; a 3rd night would have been welcome as it was quite an expedition to go out to a restaurant!

Review 22:No televisions or telephones, comfy sitting room to spend the evenings, with adjacent "trust" bar. Also "help yourself" to tea/coffee and fresh fruit at any time.

Review 23:Side-building is 500 meters from the hotel in an old farm building which from the sides still looks like that. Will you walk 500 meters to use the communal TV-room, the swimming pool, the tennis court etc, the free wifi? The side-building offers simple accomodation to high prices.

Review 24:Disappointed that restaurant was not open on arrival evening after being told it would be (kitchen problems) & then again not open on our last night as opening days had been changed.

Review 25:Lovely gardens and quiet secluded palm-sheltered seating in the courtyard. Pleasant walk to nearby cove.

Review 26:The wifi worked very well in public areas, and because there were so many of these, it meant that it was less important that is was too weak in our room.

Review 27:The lovely environment with excellent facilities for a relaxing stay: lots of quiet public spaces with plenty of room for every guest, some internal, others outside, swimming pool, sauna, tennis, a lovely garden, many places to sit and have a quiet drink, very helpful friendly staff, easy access to plenty of nice places to eat. The walks in the banana plantations were pleasant and most informative. A car is essential, of course.

Review 28:The absolute peace and tranquillity of the hotel even though there was full occupancy. All staff were warmly efficient. There was a high understanding of gluten free dietary requirements.

Review 29:Room decoration could be improved and THE lighting into the room is too fluorescent!!! The fact that wifi was not available in the room and there was no TV was a plus to rest. However a better wifi service in the common areas would benefit.

Review 30:Location is spectacular, staff is super kind and helpful, facilities are great. We loved the place as few others and we want to go back. It is a romantic, nostalgic and fun place. Breakfast is great too and the service is impressive.

Review 31:We stayed in the annex which is nowhere near hotel, about 15 mins walk away without wi fi. We felt a bit isolated as the main building is so nice.

Review 32:Lovely hotel especially in main building.

Review 33:There was nothing I did not like. Was bliss!

Review 34:Warm welcome, extremely helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We were celebrating a birthday, and as a surprise the hotel had a bottle of champagne with a card and flowers at the breakfast table! I have never known a hotel to make such an effort! Free fruit and biscuits all day is also another great touch. Room was clean, and spacious. The courtyard was relaxing. Overall a peaceful location. Blissful retreat!

Review 35:the coffee at breakfast could have been better, otherwise no complaints at all.

Review 36:We loved the ambience of Hotel Rural El Patio - set in a banana plantation, the hotel is elegant and unpretentious, with the most beautiful gardens. The staff are friendly and helpful and there when you need them, but otherwise they keep a low profile, adding to the sense of relaxation and calm that permeates the hotel. The well stocked bar operates using an honesty box - a perfect indication of the trust shown by the owners and the integrity of the clientele. There's a pool, sauna, tennis courts, and croquet lawn, and the location is lovely. Dinner is available at the hotel on just two nights per week; but highly recommended too is the El Drago restaurant, ten minutes' walk from the hotel. Otherwise there is an excellent choice of restaurants in nearby Garachico.

Review 37:Poor wifi signal and no wifi in rooms. Coffee does not taste nice. could do with extra pillow in bedrooms.

Review 38:Family run, superb location, friendly staff, real peace and tranquility, great breakfast including the plantation banana, no tv , no kids,no noise, great walks and stunning scenery. good local restaurants. Had a great time.

Review 39:We were staying in the hotel 'Annexe'. This was actually 200m from the main hotel - nice but some distance from other hotel facilities. Hotel promised free Wifi but this was only available in the main hotel. Can't imagine staying here without a car.

Review 40:Very quiet, spacious, relaxing hotel, in a beautiful setting a few kms outside Garachico. Lovely palm tree courtyard, quiet pleasant pool and patio area, tennis court and access to local beach. No TV was welcome.

Review 41:the room was a little dark and not so nice as we saw at the pictures. the price is high for what you get. the breakfast wasn't so succesfull.

Review 42:the hotel is situated in a really great and special view. the staff were very kind and helpfull. we really liked the paths the hotel created through the banana plantations

Review 43:Poor wifi link only available close to reception, poor internet speed. Given the nature of the location as part of a plantation and the Eco credentials we would have expected local produce and fresh fruit juices to be available. Dinner only available twice per week and was a fixed menu. Not especially good value compared to what was on offer in Garachico.

Review 44:Quiet location. superior rooms good size with terrace.

Review 45:The restaurant only serves dinner twice a week and was more home cooking than restaurant food really. We only ate their once. The town has many really good restaurants though, but you have to take a short drive or taxi ride.

Review 46:Hotel was full of character being on a banana plantation and the staff were really friendly and helpful. It was small, so the facilities were not amazing but was very comfortable for a week. It was quiet which suited us. There was an honesty bar and the drinks were extremely good value!

Review 47:The pillows!

Review 48:The feeling of peace and tranquility throughout the hotel and especially the large patio with different areas of seating. The welcome from all the staff and the thought that had gone into all the extras available at the hotel. Excellent service. Would definitely recommend to people wanting a good centre for touring the whole of Tenerife but particularly the Northern coast.

Review 49:Beautiful location with such a relaxed atmosphere at the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were extremely kind and friendly. A perfect break away from the madding crowd.

Review 50:It would have been nice to stay at the hotel for meals a couple of times, but it seemed that Staff illness was a problem with providing this at the time.

Review 51:A very reasonably priced hotel, relaxing and calm atmosphere, with walks in the banana plantation and near the sea. The honesty bar for all drinks during the stay was good. All the local restaurants we tried were recommended by the hotel and were excellent. First time in Tenerife - cheap petrol, no parking fees we came across, nice people and plenty of dramatic landscape.

Review 52:Being woken up at 0645 each morning by plantation workers No fan or aircon to keep room at a reasonable temp Staff dont really interact with you

Review 53:Plus points.. Price Pool Breakfast Location Ambience Room cleaning Courtyard for relaxing

Review 54:the breakfast was OK

Review 55:a beatiful and peaceful place with atmosphere

Review 56:We loved everything about our stay at El Patio, especially the fresh, warm croissants on Sunday morning!

Review 57:Coffee dreadful!

Review 58:Lovely staff, liked the honesty bar and a very pretty place.

Review 59:Great setting in midst of open banana plantation, beautiful garden and particularly pleasant patio.

Review 60:beautiful garden of banana trees, the felling of true Canary countryside, very nice sea views from the "cove" nearby

Review 61:No wifi in the depandance.

Review 62:The location is lovely. The staff is very kind and helpful. The breakfast is fantastic.

Review 63:Location it's very quiet and you're very closed to many activities. Nice typical place, perfect for many days.

Review 64:One needs a car to get around this area!

Review 65:Everything!

Review 66:The quiet tranquility was exactly what we needed and the staff were always helpful and willing to assist us regardless of how trivial of query was.

Review 67:Bed was very uncomfortable, smell of pesticides everywhere, walls too thin can hear neighbors, breakfast bad, dark, dank place

Review 68:Beautiful hotel and garden, conviently located for Icod and Garanchico (plenty of good restaurants between the two). Very friendly and laid back.

Review 69:Tranquil setting and tea and coffee facilities for guests to use. Buffet breakfast was good. Simple but well cooked dinner excellent value

Review 70:A unique hotel in perfect surroundings

Review 71:occasional shower problem wifi unreliable and in courtyard only

Review 72:Everything

Review 73:Family atmosphere, very helpful staff, the best place I have visited over last several years

Review 74:Nothing particularly

Review 75:Peace and quiet. Walks through the Banana Plantation Local wildlife, especially lizards

Review 76:Vet nice location on a banana plantation, helpful staff!

Review 77:Lack of restaurant for evening meals

Review 78:Peace and Quiet and the setting

Review 79:coffee cleaning

Review 80:grate place

Review 81:Hotel, Ruhe, die sehr schöne Lage

Review 82:FLIES! Thousands of them whenever you left the room, or door open. No TV in room. No in room tea/coffee facilities. Dinner only available twice a week. Difficult to find.

Review 83:Buildings. Location. Dinner (see also what we didn't like).

Review 84:Probably the best small hotel we have ever stayed in - the combination of a relaxed ambience, historic buildings, fabulous gardens and friendly staff. There are good places to eat in Garachico, especially Rugantinos for an authentic Italian vibe, and La Taskita de Eduardo for quality and welcome.

Review 85:Could have been more of a selection/variation at breakfast. Poor wifi signal- only accessible from certain parts of hotel.

Review 86:Lovely personal feel to the hotel. Beautiful gardens. Pool heated. Peaceful.

Review 87:Wonderful location, peaceful atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and gardens, staff welcoming, friendly and helpful, lovely food and lots of choice for breakfast.

Review 88:Stuck in the middle of the monoculture of bananas.

Review 89:Great chilled atmosphere, breakfast,(and dinner but only occasionally available), free use of tennis court pool etc, lovely buildings and immediate surroundings.

Review 90:Without a car you would be stranded. We used taxi s each night to get to the nearest restaurants Food availability in hotel very limited.

Review 91:The gardens The quiet location No telephones or television in the rooms

Review 92:Hotel's directions are confusing. From Tenerife South airport, the drive via Santa Cruz is MUCH easier & quicker than the recomended route via Los Christianos. Pool heating was marginal late Feb.

Review 93:wonderful sense of space; very peaceful. Good restaurants in walking distance, with huge choice 5 mins drive into Garachico

Review 94:Dinner is served only two times a week - Tue and Thu. As we were only staying for three days we managed to got it only once but I must say it was very good. So perhaps a recommendation for the hotel to provide dinner on daily basis...

Review 95:Very nice place, our baby loved the inner garden with 100+ years old palm trees... A lot of flowers, fruit garden, sports areas, pool... not to mention that you are in the middle of working banana plantation and can take a walking tour around on three marked routes - you get map in each room. Good selection of food for breakfast and we found very interesting the honesty system at bar - which is also resulted in very affordable prices of drinks. On our next visit to Tenerife we will for sure visit this hotel again.

Review 96:The quality of the evening meal!

Review 97:The place has character, is well situated and very quiet. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, although did not have a terrace as advertised. The staff are friendly and there is a relaxed, family atmosphere. Breakfast offers a good choice and quantity.

Review 98:We were there in January and the weather was not very good and we found the rooms a little damp. I'm sure this would not be a problem at other times of year,

Review 99:It was an interesting old family estate with lots of character. I really liked the honesty bar system where you could get a cup of tea or a drink of any kind whenever you wanted it. The two set evening meals were also very good value.

Review 100:Quite basic but clean rooms, limited food options except for breakfast which was very good

Review 101:Quiet Location, friendly staff, beautiful common areas and gardens

Review 102:The rustic surroundings, set in peaceful, beautifully mantained courtyards and gardens, surrounded by the family's working banana plantation with views of the dramatic coastline and mountains. The staff were always helpful and informative. You could spend the whole day there, just relaxing in different settings.

Review 103:The New Year's Eve dinner for veggies was far too expensive: we had to pay the same €50 as if we had ordered meat! Quite unfair. The cava was wery low quality, too. Could have been better organised.

Review 104:We loved the place from the very start. Wonderful ancient plantation mansion turned into quiet, charming apartments. Great place to disconnect without TV, phone or wi-fi! As it should be for a real break from all that rat race! Hosts were charming and attentive. Lots of outdoor activities to do. Breakfasts were glorious. Great value for money. The best hotel we've ever been in the whole of the Canary Islands.

Review 105:Nothing--we hope to come back again!

Review 106:The hotel is beautiful, full of history and local lore. One can walk through the banana plantation to the rugged coast, swim in the pool or simply relax in one of the many cozy corners. Full of grace and elegance, Hotel El Patio is quite simply one of the most peaceful and relaxing places I've experienced.

Review 107:Such a lush and beautiful setting that allows you privacy. There are several stunning sitting areas where you can relax and read in the sun or shade. The hotel has much character that adds to the unique stay. The breakfast was quite good. There are many restaurant in the town close by that is less than a 10 drive away. Staff was very welcoming and flexible. They were so nice about making arrangements for special dietary requests at the NYE dinner. We loved our stay!! We were lucky to find this place. It is so personal and a great alternative to a crowded resort.

Review 108:We stayed in the annex, where the rooms have no TVs nor internet. We very much loved that, but to some people it might be discomforting.

Review 109:Very peaceful and quiet place! It was extremely nice to walk every morning through the banana-plantation to get to the very nice breakfast. The little "beach" is nice for some snorkeling. Staff is very nice and helpful: they mostly go unnoticed, but are there when you need them: perfect!

Review 110:We basically loved everything. Extremely helpful staff, wonderful location in the middle of a banana plantation, lovely hotel in a historic rural house, beautiful views over the plantation and sea right from the door step of our room, and tasty breakfast. As a whole, our stay was super relaxing and enjoyable. There were also nice walks around the hotel. As a tip: though we found the location superb, to get there smoothly, you really need a car.

Review 111:The hotel grounds are stunning - a beautiful, palm-filled courtyard, lovely, tranquil gardens and numerous places to sit in sun or shade, including a delightful pool. The whole place is immaculate and incredibly peaceful. And there are bespoke walks through the banana plantations. This was our fifth stay, and we are planning a sixth.

Review 112:Staff was extremely helpful and welcoming Beautiful buildings and location Very well-maintained and organised Fantastic views across the plantation to the seaside and hills Simple and cozy self-service bar

Review 113:Nothing really, although the swimming pool was "bracing", but it was November.

Review 114:Just about everything. The hotel was delightful, the atmosphere peaceful, the banana plantation interesting, the food good and the staff excellent and friendly. We intend to go back next year.

Review 115:Poor access to food unless willing to drive. Advised not to drink tap water, and bottled water charged for. If internet is important to you, you need to note wifi is very limited in cover, although free. The weather in this area of Tenerife is not as favourable as in the south (due to the trade winds).

Review 116:Truly awesome setting. Nice public areas, including a number of lovely outdoor patios, suited to relaxation. Mix of British, German and Spanish couples (young and old) and young families. There are three recommended walks through the plantation, including to a small beach/cove that I really recommend.

Review 117:The wifi was a bit frustrating. Sometimes OK and at other times poor.

Review 118:Sitting beneath the palm trees on comfortable chairs in a lovely garden. The temperature in early November was perfect for me. There was some sunshine but most of the day there is cloud which stops it getting too hot. Walking through the bannana plantation to look at the sea which was wild.

Review 119:It is a wonderful Finca in the middle of a banana plantation. It is very quiet and romantic, just like in the movies. Staff is *very* friendly and helpful!

Review 120:There was no dinner service and it is slightly challenging to get to the main road - daunting at night.

Review 121:The location on a banana plantation is wonderful. It is very quiet and has beautiful gardens and an amazing courtyard (patio). The pool is very nice. This is a place to go for quiet contemplation.

Review 122:We booked a room in the annexe as most of the reviews we read said theywere much nicer. On arrival we were told that the annexe was closed forthe end of the season and we had to have a room in the main building. The room was extremely dark, had no terrace (as the annexe rooms do),and the bed was not comfortable. There was no room safe and a eur 9charge for using a safe in a communal area. Dinner not provided on anynights during our week-long stay - there aren't any decentrestaurants in walking distance, so you either have to drive everyevening for dinner, or take taxis (approx eur 20 round trip toGarachico). Despite other reviews, we found the owners and staff to bequite unapproachable. We detected a real "end of season" feelto the place - pool towels not put out, cushions for the patio chairsnot put out, the "emergency food" fridge virtually empty formost of the week. Breakfasts were pretty ordinary and the coffee washorrid (I found it undrinkable and resorted to instant!). Wecouldn't understand why the curtains were closed every day in thebreakfast room, obscuring the views (the sun wasn't in anyone'seyes or too hot). Felt dark and a bit depressing.

Review 123:Lovely location in the banana plantation, and attractive well-maintainedgardens and courtyard. The hotel is a short drive away from Garachicowhich has lots of really nice (and varied) restaurants. Well stockedhonesty bar for drinks - water, soft drinks, beer, wine etc - and pricesgenerally fine (except for tea and coffee which are very pricey for asachet of instant coffee or a tea bag!). The separate "bar"also runs on an honesty basis - if you want a quiet drink on your own, then it's good, but not if you're after any sort of atmosphere(or even to see another person!). The pool was nice (if very cold). Inshort, this is a good spot for a very quiet break, where you don'tmind driving for lunch and dinner every day - but be aware that it is agood hour from a decent beach and the sunnier side of the island. Itwill suit some people down to the ground, but it's not for everyone- and not somewhere we would consider returning to.

Review 124:You definitely need a car. I would not spend much more then 3 days in the area.

Review 125:The surroundings are amazing (you are in the middle of a banana plantation). Very convenient for a day trip to mount teide and visit a bit the area.
