Reviews for BEST WESTERN Hôtel D'Anjou
Review 1:There was an occassional smell coming from the bathroom, like old, dirty pipes. Also breakfast was sufficient but very expensive for what it was.
Review 2:A good location when travelling with a car as well as close enough to walk to restaurants and shops. The hotel has an old world charm to it and the rooms were very comfortable and practical.
Review 3:The place urgently needs redecorating. Worn out wall paper and grubby 'curtains' must date from the '80s.
Review 4:position dead centre of Town couldn't be better. Car park du Mail just across the road too.
Review 5:Not really a quibble, but I wouldn't write home about the room service evening main course.
Review 6:my stay was very restricted for time,so the hotel provided me with taxi transport as and when i needed. The outside temperature was quite cold, so it was a great relief to find my room at a constant 17 degrees.
Review 7:Because Best Western are a large chain, thought they might be able to do more gluten free options for breakfast (I'm a Coeliac) but luckily I took my own cereal and bread.
Review 8:Staff really helpful and looked after our luggage which was being transported as part of our cycle trip. Good cycle storage. Hotel lovely and really appreciated the dressing gowns!
Review 9:We found the staff very friendly and helpful and the hotel has an excellent gourmet restaurant (La Salamandre) with a beautiful décor. It is centrally located with about a 10 minute walk to the station and 10 minutes to the main attractions of Angers
Review 10:People got stuck in the elevator at 3 AM alarm for 1 hour Staff did not manage properly. Staff not empowered to compensate the inconvenience. Breakfast overcrowded no space.
Review 11:The room was tired and in need of a refurb, holes in the wallpaper and some of the skirting was damaged and coming away from the wall.
Review 12:Location was very good and central. The staff were very good, and communication prior to our stay was excellent and professional.
Review 13:Very friendly staff, always ready to help! The room was absolutely gorgeous - I loved the fab door into the rooms!!! Charming and quintessentially French, with a distinct old world feeling! Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Angers!
Review 14:Got the impression they really didn't want us here, the young man who booked us in especially. Probably not looking our best after travelling!
Review 15:Very nice room at a bargain price
Review 16:Car Park was a bit odd and not the easiest to get in and out - that's if I didn't exit the entrance ! Pretty unclear.
Review 17:Arrived late but Night receptionist was excellent. 100m away from a square full of restaurants etc. Easy access to trams and buses
Review 18:Room could have been cleaner Clearer instructions before arriving on parking arrangements & location of nearby car park
Review 19:Welcome at reception & Meal in restaurant & service
Review 20:The air conditioning in our (quite small) room was angled to blow icy air at your neck whilst sleeping
Review 21:Friendly staff, ample parking, good location for exploring the city, standard of décor
Review 22:The breakfast was overpriced and quite dull.
Review 23:The location of this hotel is perfect if you want to explore the centre of Angers. It is in walking distance of the Saturday market and opposite McDonalds. A short walk to the centre of town. The food in the dining room that was open in the evening is outstanding. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly and spoke English and French.
Review 24:Excessive charge of 12 euros for each dog. We travel with two non-moulting dogs throughout France and 12 euros is more than twice what we have paid in every other part of France.
Review 25:Good location on the island in the river with a short walk to town centre with great views.
Review 26:The rooms are not soundproof.
Review 27:Very good location. The ambience is romantic and the rooms look beautiful. The breakfast has plenty of choice. The staff is very helpful.
Review 28:Bus station below our room. The noise of buses idling waiting for passengers woke us early.
Review 29:Very helpful and friendly staff. Original features and French decor.
Review 30:Despite having a confirmed reservation for one of the larger rooms, I was put in a small room at the back of the hotel, down a narrow dark corridor with peeling wallpaper. When I pointed out my reservation to staff, they blamed Booking.com, claiming that Booking.com had not had the authority to make the reservation. I find this claim highly unlikely, but even if the fault was with Booking.com, surely good customer service would demand that the hotel would make at least some effort to accommodate the confirmed reservation, given that the hotel obviously has a contract with Booking.com to make reservations on their behalf.
Review 31:The hotel was in a convenient location in Angers, and had some beautiful Art Nouveau elements in the lobby.
Review 32:Somebody had obviously been smoking in the bedroom - we were very late for a meeting, otherwise we would have changed rooms.
Review 33:Beautiful architecture. Tea and coffee making facilities good as not always found in France. Parking was a bonus.
Review 34:La salle de bain....décoration nulle et robineterie de basse qualité. Le petit déjeuner est correct mais surfacturé !
Review 35:Le personnel est aimable, le lit est super confort. Hotel calme et bien placé. Prix très correct.
Review 36:Not being able to pay my hotel bill with cash since they only had a 20 for change and and I needed more than 20.
Review 37:I had a number of questions and issues since I had never been to Angers before and some were technical. Every staff person at all hours of the day went above and beyond especially Adriana who even had me send my flight check-in details to her personal email address since the hotel one was down. Once she received it, she took care of everything. She was the best!
Review 38:Very comfortable room, clean and nicely furnished. The location is very good, with car parking facilities owned by the hotel, in the centre of Angers, a 10 min walk to the castle and the medieval town.
Review 39:Warm and friendly reception from all staff, very helpful when I had issues with my computer. Trams and buses nearby and range of restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Excellent WIFI. Secure parking very reasonably priced.
Review 40:Access by car is difficult. Breakfasts are good but pricey. The lift is old and small.
Review 41:The staff was friendly. The place, although old, had character and was clean. The room was good size and quite. The bed was firm and comfortable.
Review 42:hotel looks worn, no money being spent on upgrading facilities
Review 43:helpful and friendly staff, location to Angers main shopping area, nice rooms, secure parking
Review 44:I was there in the 1st week of October 2014 and the heating system was not switched on for the whole hotel at that time. It was increadible cold, expesially in the bathroom in the morning. I have got a cold directly at the start of my stay. Great, thank you! The breakfast is too expensive for the region / city.
Review 45:Having to leave after 2 days! Minor blip on arrival, given the wrong room that was not ready; changed within minutes to a much nicer one!
Review 46:Wonderful food and service in the restaurant;don't be put off by the price. Tried the 29 and 39 euro menus, both worth the money! Good atmosphere. Really nice, helpful staff. Excellent bedroom.
Review 47:Breakfast very expensive, but good quality. Only one power socket in the room.. we had to unplug a lamp to use it.
Review 48:Excellent room for the price we paid. Lovely staff.
Review 49:The price of the breakfast The lack of anyone to help with the luggage (apart from the receptionist) The lack of an "unloading" bay
Review 50:The helpfulness of the receptionists The quality of the meal in your restaurant on the second evening
Review 51:We liked everything. Nothing to complain about.
Review 52:Location - perfect for everything. Close to station, about 15 mins walk. Taxi not needed if you don't have much baggage. Close to shops, parks, restaurants. Bedroom - lovely, very clean, comfy bed and lovely bedding. Lovely bathroom, very clean with shower gel/face cloth provided. Didn't try restaurant so can't comment.
Review 53:Nothing
Review 54:Location near to centre of town Great market in square nearby on Saturday Cheap overnight parking in underground car park across the square Lovely restaurants Comfy beds Nice view
Review 55:The parking facility : no direct access to the hotel The breakfast : nothing extraordinary The lift : very narrow
Review 56:The decor says it all: you are in a place full of history At the reception nice manner and a real desire to help you In the bedroom :again the style is impressive - nice furniture - confortable bed - Functional bathroom
Review 57:Evening restaurant not up to expectation. Poor waiter service and expensive for quality of food. Duvet was rather too thick for the time of year and the temperature
Review 58:Reception excellent Car parking facilities very good and secure for cycles too. Good air conditioning and comfortable bed
Review 59:Bathroom rather cramped. Failure to receive guests promptly in the dining room - left waiting in the doorway.
Review 60:Location and secure parking; good evening meal, though rather expensive.
Review 61:To get to the underground parking means either driving around the block, or just backing up a one way street if it happens to be clear. It's only 50 metres behind the hotel, but the entrance door is pretty narrow. Scraping the bottom of the barrel to find any substantive negatives.
Review 62:Hotel location was very good, easy to find, good secure u/g car park. A Grande Dame of a hotel, which is meant as an affectionate compliment! Room excellently equipped with fridge, tea/coffee, lots of storage, twin basins, nice light coloured timber panelling/furniture. Price we paid made this our best value for money on a 12 night, 6 hotel tour of the Loire Valley. We didn't however take breakfast at the hotel because that was a budget busting 15 euros. Perhaps we should have overlooked the price because the room itself was fabulous. Front of House Pascale was just lovely, as of course any hotel Receptionist should be anywhere in the world, but "sometimes" isn't.
Review 63:Breakfast was expensive (17 Euro).
Review 64:State of the facilities was old world and lovely. Quality of theinternet was excellent and location was great - 15 minute walk fromChateau D'Anger. Had coffee/tea in the room.
Review 65:The decor of this hotel is amazing as it is all very elaborate old style French but updated so extremely comfortable(suggest you view pictures on internet site). It makes it unique and not just like walking into any anonymous hotel. We got a good deal so it was great value but the restaurant seemed quite expensive so we ate out as there are plenty of options nearby. The hotel location is central and next to a large park so perfect for sightseeing and there is secure underground car parking on the side street, although the entrance was quite tight.
Review 66:There was not a lot to dislike but am all for constructive criticism so here goes! I don't feel I could wholeheartedly recommend the hotel for anyone disabled. I found the climb over the bath into the shower in our particular room 238 challenging and I'm not even disabled! Perhaps a room with walk in shower if such exists would work better for those of us a little older. In addition the lift was very small could it accommodate a wheelchair I wonder? Our room was a bit small and I would have liked a shelf over the washbasin to put make up hairbrush etc on as anything placed near the basin got splashed. Also and I'm being really picky here the bath towel was a bit small and for a 4* hotel a larger bath sheet size would add for me a touch of luxury. I didn't like being in a room facing the the road and would certainly recommend asking for a room at the back of the hotel because then you can have your window open without having to pull the curtains to avoid being overlooked from people sitting outside the cafés opposite. These are all small details as overall the hotel ticked the really important boxes brilliantly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 67:The location was excellent within easy access of the major places of interest, restaurants and shops. Regards the hotel itself considering our room was overlooking the busy road the soundproofing was truly amazing and this meant we slept really well right from the start. The air conditioning was also very effective and made our stay very comfortable. We liked the complementary bottle of water and the small kettle and supply of milk tea and coffee was a very welcome feature. We found the small fridge very useful for chilling our own drinks and small amounts of food. All the staff were courteous welcoming friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff were discreet polite and quiet so we didn't feel under intense pressure to vacate our room for cleaning as we have in other hotels. The breakfast was delicious, a wonderful buffet with an amazing variety of hot and cold food of high quality and efficient friendly service from the staff making it a pleasurable experience. The bed was very comfortable due to the high quality of the mattress and bedding materials. The pillows were particularly comfortable due to high quality filling.
Review 68:Breakfast was served in a superb historic 1920's interior. Food was plentiful but the buffet lacked hot water and coffee machines and depended on thermos jugs which were inadequate and not checked often enough.
Review 69:We had a comfortable, well equipped and quiet room on the courtyard side of the hotel, booked online at an excellent rate. The reception staff were friendly and helpful as bringing in the luggage up several levels from our car was awkward.
Review 70:There was a large choice of tea which is very good but I would prefer and ordinary tea bag and more of them, personnel choice. Lacking in milk, 2 small milks per day not good, I take 2 in one cup of tea so drinks in room very limited hot drinks.
Review 71:Everything about the hotel, amenities, location was just perfect, the room, bed and bathroom was very clean, toiletries provided were good and the amount given.
Review 72:Hotel needs some renovation, Personal have not enough English language level , some of them do not speak English at all.
Review 73:Good location , nice atmosphere, Good hospitality , Acceptable prices
Review 74:Nothing to claim
Review 75:Everything. Location is really near the historical city center. Hotel has its own parking. Staff was friendly. Hotel is rich decorated inside. There is refrigerator in the room.
Review 76:Tiny elevator a bit spooky. Breakfast room not well overseen, cleaned and food areas not well replenished. When booking we were not advised that dinner reservation was needed- our one evening there and had to eat elsewhere.
