Reviews for Hotel Calina

Review 1:The walk from cadaques is difficult. A timed shuttle should be available. We took public bus from Barcelona & there were no taxis when we arrived.

Review 2:We loved our stay at Hotel Calina. It's a beautiful quiet inlet at an affordable price.

Review 3:Kitchen closed at 8pm (luckily the Hotel next door was still serving)

Review 4:Helpful staff, nice pool, shaded car parks, cooking facilities, really close to Dali House Museum, but not a lot else.

Review 5:Reception staff-unfriendly. Had to ask for a hairdryer (made to feel guilty for asking ) Notices telling guests houserules-which is not neccesary for the majority of guests ie.Do Not Take Food Out Of Dining Room! Staff policing guests! Most uncomfortable!!

Review 6:Ground floor room with patio-excellent. Swimming pool -excellent. View- fantastic!

Review 7:Walking up the hills after dinner but was well worth it for the awesome view & accommodations.

Review 8:Beautiful location & views. Excellent location for Dali house, took tour early in morning before the crowds came. Delicious breakfast. Staff was very accommodating. Enjoyed wine overlooking the cove.

Review 9:A great place to get away from everything. Right next door to where Salvador Dali lived and worked. Great restaurant just around the corner. Easy to walk in to the Centre of Cadaques.

Review 10:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 11:Very crooked road and difficult to find, but once there it was a wonderful hotel at a beautiful location. The buffet breakfast was very good. The room was large and roomy with a patio, and the bathroom was a good size with plenty of space to put ones things. The pool was large but, u fortunately not heated. The staff was very helpful. It deserves at least 3 stars, if not more.

Review 12:We had a studio room with self catering, it would have been better equipped with a kettle/coffee maker and perhaps an iron, to be fair we were out a lot and didn't ask so perhaps they were available

Review 13:Beautiful location helpful staff

Review 14:Going home. Uncomfortable bed. Limited food offering. No bar services after 10pm ! A bit noisy at times.

Review 15:Without a doubt it's the staff that make Hotel Calina. Yes, the pool area is lovely, the views amazing and very interesting neighbours but each and every member of staff is what Calina is all about. We stayed for 10 days and used it as a base from where we visited Roses, Figures, Girona and once ventured over the border to Banyuls-sur-Mer (should have continued to Perpignan). From Hotel Calina it's a hilly 15 minute walk to Cadaques and often hillier on the way back. Diego from Eco Cabs was a great find. The breakfast is fine and served until 10:30. The Tapas offering which is available until 8pm is limited but adequate to keep hunger at bay until an evening out in Cadaques.

Review 16:The sheets on the bed had a synthetic feel to them. The breakfast coffe was not hot. Buffet style and not well laid out, had to get up all the time to get things as only little plates available

Review 17:Great pool, Helpful staff at front desk. Very well positioned to visit Salvador Dali's house

Review 18:Can't think of one to comment on.

Review 19:The hotel was very close to the beach (although that was not a sandy one) and also to the main visitor attraction in Port Lligat, which is Salvador Dali's house. The views were good, overlooking the sea and hills out the back. We did not get any sense of overcrowded development. It was about a 15 minute walk from the hotel to Cadaques and about 20 minutes back (uphill!).The hotel did not have a full restaurant, but did provide a continental style breakfast in the mornings, which I enjoyed as there was a selection of croissants, breads, small cakes, meats cheese, etc. There was a spacious dining area and plenty of tables to use outside. In the evening a range of tapas was available until about 9 pm. Since most visitors were continental, they only started going out to dinner around 9 pm anyway and usually travelled to Cadaques or further afield if they had transport. The hotel pool was quite large and there was plenty of seating and loungers, so we spent quite a lot of time lying down thinking about what we might do if we got up. Somehow we never did quite get around to using the pool, although it looked very inviting and it was used a lot, though never crowded. The room was spacious for us and comfortable enough and it had air conditioning and a small balcony with a table and two chairs which we used to enjoy a drink or two or snacks. For TV addicts, note that out of 50 or so channels only one (BBC World News) was in English, with a very occasional (one I found in 8 days) film in English. The guests ranged in ages and seemed to come from various parts of Europe and there were couples, families and small groups and whilst we were there, no noisy carryings on at all. We did not have transport, so were limited to walking and that meant only a km or two around the area. We did walk 7 kms to Cape de Cruz one day and arrived just as the last bus back departed - so we had to walk back again - not an easy task in the heat, but as they say ' mad dogs and...

Review 20:Great spot to spend a few days or a week. It was a lovely way to get over jet lag after our overseas flight. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet well-stocked with good variety and the selection of snacks and food available throughout the day (cost extra) was excellent.

Review 21:Even at the height of summer in a very busy area, the hotel was a relaxed, quiet and inspiring place to stay. All staff were friendly and helpful and the pool area wonderful. Port Ligat is beautiful - a short walk from bustling Cadques, seconds from the Dali house and minutes from some reasonably quiet pebble beaches with great snorkeling.

Review 22:I have no complaints or bad experience. Lots of couples with children. The bed was comfortable, wifi was working very well & overall the place is very clean. I don't know what to say about the swimming pool because I didn't have enough time left to use it.

Review 23:Food was terrible, room was almost in the basement and very dark, no view. Staff was not so friendly or helpful. They seem to think they are doing you a favor to let you stay there. Cadeques is wonderful, but overpriced--as is this hotel

Review 24:Gorgeous location!

Review 25:It's a steep walk in Cadaqués itself.

Review 26:Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are light and very clean. The hotel is close to the water and a great little beach cafe in Portllgat

Review 27:It is important to know that the center of cadaques is about 1 KM away from the hotel, half of the way is a steep rise and the other half is a steep way down.

Review 28:The room is very large and also very bright when the sun is up (which is a problem for people who like sleeping in a complete dark). The bed is comfortable and the room is clean. The breakfast is good and there is a lot to choose from.

Review 29:The room was quite small with not enough storage space to stow away our suitcases. We only stayed 4 nights so this wasn't a real issue.

Review 30:Breathtaking location, great pool with plenty of sun loungers, good buffet breakfast, 15 minute steep walk to Cadaques which, again, is beautiful with lots of great places to eat by the sea. Staff very helpful and provide you with a map and tips of places to visit during your stay. Would recommend.

Review 31:The staff is the nicest persons in the world. The hotel has great view (it was very important to me), best location, the rooms are nice and clean. Love it and recommand it very much.

Review 32:The property is impeccable. I loved our balcony overlooking the pool and sea. The central areas of the hotel are very airy and open; I loved the open feeling. The proximity to the Dali home is a real plus, and the walk to the center of town is easily accessed.

Review 33:Staff not particularly helpful; the girl on the desk recommended 2 restaurants which were both closed on the night of our stay!

Review 34:Lovely spot, 15 minutes' walk into the busy town

Review 35:The hotel is 15-20 min walk from centre of Cadaques where all the shops and restaurants are.

Review 36:We liked the location - steps from Casa Dali in Port Lligat, quiet harbor. There is a small fridge in the room. Breakfast is standard European.

Review 37:Little remote from town. Requires hike up and over a pretty sizable hill. Air conditioning in room is only available when they turn on the entire system, which they chose not to do. Had to make due with a pretty noisy fan.

Review 38:A bit of a walk to central Cadaques.

Review 39:Nice, quiet and clean place meeting our travel needs. It's by the Port and next to Salvatore Dali museum. Breakfast was fine. Helpful staff.

Review 40:Very very pour breakfast. Unbelievable unfair for this money. Reception closed after 22. Internet is terrible, almost no connection all 3 days.

Review 41:Great location. Fantastic view. Katy at reception - she is perfect.

Review 42:What's not to like- nice-sized room, balcony with view of bay, clean, comfortable bed, good breakfast- pool which we didn't use (too early in season). Great location by the Dali house museum. Wonderful welcoming staff- Esther and Cathy (spell?)

Review 43:A beautiful setting and location, close walk to the Dali home and village. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Hopefully we will return to Cadaques and a visit to Hotel Calina

Review 44:The bed was not the most comfortable and they could add some fruits and fresh orange juice at the breakfast.

Review 45:Perfect location in the nature, romantic and beautiful hotel, amazing breakfast with salt and sweet, nice team very helpful who has a lot of good tips for you.The hotel has a direct access to a small rocky beach and a beautiful view.

Review 46:This hotel would be 10/10 if they had a restaurant that was open for meals in the evening as I'm sure that they would be excellent. Unfortunately this is not the case and the only option within easy walking distance is the other hotel where prices are very high. However, the two beach bar/restaurants at the front of the hotel are excellent but close at 6pm out of the main season. Tip - eat there midday and take-away a sandwich for later.

Review 47:A charming family run hotel that wants to please. Excellent "staff" and what a welcome. We will definitely visit again.

Review 48:Breakfast a disappointment, despite being served around the pool. Poor stewed coffee and lots of defrosted viennoiserie. Could be much better.

Review 49:Glorious in summer, good parking, good wifi and very welcoming staff..and right by the Dali house in Portilligat. Room small (but clearly stated on booking form) but bathroom very large. Rather tortuous road into town, but you do need a car to get to and from Cadaques.

Review 50:could add kitchen equipment such as kettle and toaster

Review 51:very nice hotel, clean room, modern shower, big swimming pool, beautiful location, walking distance to city center

Review 52:No chair in bedroom and no hooks in bathroom. Bedroom disproportionately small compared to very spacious bathroom.

Review 53:Location, proximity to Cadaqués without the hustle & bustle of the busy bank holiday weekend. Kind staff and everything clean and in good order.

Review 54:I read reviews before coming here and this hotel really is a wonderful place to stay. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The room was lovely, lots of space, very clean and had a fresh nautical theme. It was also a nice surprise that it came with a patio/balcony area. The breakfast was so varied and totally delicious. I'm not sure I've ever seen such a good selection before and everything was good quality. The pool looked amazing but it was too cold at this time of year. You'll have a great time if you stay here. It's a 10-15 minutes walk from town, but it's nice to be so close to coast and see the countryside from your window.

Review 55:Staff were charming - especially at reception. I'd left my passport at a previous hotel and they tracked it down and, as I was leaving early on my last day, they sent a breakfast tray to my room the night before. Very relaxing.

Review 56:A bit of a walk into town. Best to park by the church at the top of the hill and then walk the path/road down into town. Not very far, but steep on the way back.

Review 57:Great staff, great pool, great views and next door to Dali's house. Very reasonably priced and a good breakfast!

Review 58:The breakfast could do with being improved.

Review 59:Hotel was in an amazing location, the setting was unique. The staff were incredibly helpful and the price was good value.

Review 60:Nothing.

Review 61:This is a family run hotel right on the water at Port Lligat, and while it's large, it has the ease and warmth of a holiday home, with people who really care about it. I had intended to visit Salvidor Dali's house - which is literally next door - and thought of venturing into the Cap de Creus national park. The girls who run the place were so helpful in connecting me to the local area that I got more so much more out of my stay than I could possibly have hoped for. They booked tickets to the Dali house for me and showed me the best way to visit the national park - and advised me to eat at the sensational cliff-top Catalan restaurant right at the end - which is still a short (but snaking drive away). All the hotel facilities were lovingly maintained, breakfast buffet (included) is great, and the beautiful swimming pool is large enough for laps. Forget Cadaques (an easy 1km walk away) - this is the place to stay on this part of the Costa Brava. Travelling alone as I was can sometimes be challenging, but my stay here (2 nights) really restored me.

Review 62:Fantastic location on a cove just outside the main tourist area. Easy walk back into the main area. Hotel management could not have been nicer. Just superbly helpful and pleasant. Absolutely wonderful visit.

Review 63:The wi-fi was very weak and overloaded.

Review 64:This was a lovely oasis on the Costa Brava, walking distance to the main village and lovely beaches and literally a few steps from the Dali house. It was clean, beautiful with a lovely pool and excellent, helpful staff.

Review 65:What a sweet hotel! Great staff of adorable English speaking young ladies. Clean, nicely decorated. Beautiful pool. Less than a 3 minute walk to the Dali House Museum. Beautiful place. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 66:The ownership, the staff all did everything and more to ensure a comfortable visit. The hotel was immaculate and facilities complete and beautiful. The view and location were fantastic. We had only three days and could have stayed a month.

Review 67:For people without car a bit steep to walk there from Cadaqués center, fine with car. Bar closes at 10.00 p.m. , time to go to bed.

Review 68:friendly people, nicely located, close to Dali house, quiet. Nice pool.

Review 69:the situation of the hotel cannot be better, just across from the Dali museum, and with direct view of the Mediterranee and the charming tiny port LLIGAT. Our room had a patio with 2 chairs and a coffee table facing the pool, wifi worked very well and breakfast was plentiful.

Review 70:Nothing

Review 71:Localization: 1. right in portligart near Dali house 2. Calm and beatufull place in front of beach 3. Excelent crew to attend the guests 4. good food

Review 72:Not ideal for a one-nigh stay, far from town.

Review 73:The facilities are nice and staff was very helpful. Highly recommended for an extended stay (which was not our case). 1 minute to the Dali house.

Review 74:Our studio apartment with lounge space and small kitchenette - the lovely pool and terraces- the friendly and efficient staff - allocated parking under manicured trees - the location near the beach. We even enjoyed the walk over the hill to Cadaques and back!

Review 75:We couldn't stay longer to enjoy the kayaks and yachts available from the hotel

Review 76:The huge pool was great and so relaxing, close to Salvador Dali's house and Musuem. In fact it's right next door and a must see. Had a very modern family room

Review 77:It would be hard to improve, is it very British to say, we would haveloved tea making facilities in the room.

Review 78:Staff room balcony pool distance from centre of town distance fromDali;s house a really lovely setting.

Review 79:Slow wireless speed

Review 80:Pool Room had all the basics (including well stocked mini bar) Quiet Very friendly and helpful staff - you can tell it's family run

Review 81:- Breakfast and lunch is good but a bit simple - There is a electric golf cart taxi in town, but be aware that a 5 minute trip will cost you 20 euros. - Don't stay here if you have difficulty walking (cane etc.) and want to spend time in the village as well

Review 82:Excellent staff, super friendly, personal. Great location (assuming you are OK with staying in a quiet place a nice walk away from town)

Review 83:nothing, we want to go back!

Review 84:really nothing we did not like. The room, pool, staff, lunch, etc were all superb! The location however, the views and access to Dali's house were what made this really special.

Review 85:The location was excellent and private with ample parking available. The staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for you. We lost count count of the different languages the staff spoke. Our room was immaculate and very romantic. Although the hotel was fully booked it didn't feel crowded. the views from our studio apartment were stunning. The pool was crystal clean and sun lounges ample. We caught the bus from Cadaques and on our return the owner drove us to the bus station in her own car. We will definitely return.

Review 86:Family room rate didn't include children. Paid an extra €60 per night for kids to sleep on a bench sofa. No breakfast included. Very limited utensils. Had to borrow knife and cheese grater from kitchen which had to be returned immediately.

Review 87:Excellent location right next door to Salvador Dali 's house.

Review 88:We enjoyed staying at Hotel Calina so much, we stayed an additional night. The staff took care of us like we were family. The owner himself gave us a ride to town the day we left.

Review 89:Hotel Calina lived up to expectations and more. We had a spacious and very well appointed room for ourselves and our 14 year old son which was very quiet at night. Breakfast was taoas style and well presented with a range of options. The free cappucino was great. Beautiful pool area. The hotel is also perfectly situated across from Dali's house and the beach bar. Will definitely come back.

Review 90:None to comment on

Review 91:Staff were very accommodating ,self contained rooms had just been refurbished brand new appliances ,large pool, free secure parking and close to all the sights

Review 92:All good, not usually a resort fan but this place pretty relaxed.

Review 93:The town itself, friendly staff, position was good, just out of tourist area but close enough. Great views

Review 94:- The only negative was the steep hill at the entrance, perhaps older people might struggle to walk it, but in general the whole area is very hilly so probably not an issue.

Review 95:- Staff were all genuinely happy and helpful all of the time. - Pool was beautiful, always enough loungers, chairs and tables. - Breakfast was delicious. - Rooms were spacious and clean.

Review 96:Staff extremely kind and friendly ready to help and advice about attractions , extremely clean and beatiful location .... What can I say more .... Will go back there as soon as we can !!! With compliments

Review 97:No shower in jr. suite. No hair dryer in suite but it was available upon request. Bed was too hard.

Review 98:Peaceful and convenient location, good food, friendly staff. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 99:Absolutely nothing, it's just a bit far (10 minutes drive) from the bus station, but make sure to ask for a free pick up when you reserve your room and the daughter of the owner comes pick you up

Review 100:Everything about this hotel is more than amazing :D It is a family hotel but the service deserves 5 stars not 2. Ester at the reception was more than amazing, and we felt most welcomed from the first moment we arrived. Rooms are very big, bright and clean, with TV, a portable dryer, and everything you can ever wish for. we had a side sea view room that had a fabulous terrace. The breakfast was delicious and there were plenty of it, they refilled the plates all the time. Camillia from the kitchen has the best welcoming smile and spirit ever. We would recommend this hotel 100% to anyone who visits Cadaques, you'll enjoy it

Review 101:The bed was very uncomfortable and it was loud--I was put next to the maid closet. There was no dinner served and the location was very high an away from town. Pool closed early.

Review 102:There were two very friendly staff members. It was very close to the Dali house and breakfast was nice.

Review 103:Room was very small.

Review 104:The management and staff of hotel. Location-quiet cove a short distance away from city center of Cadaque and steps from Dali house. Openness of public areas. Pool and terrace. Parking at the hotel.

Review 105:Situated way out of the center, very isolated, I guess, a small price to pay for an otherwise very well run hotel.

Review 106:The girls at the office(Ester and her friend, the daughter of owner),fantastic. The pool first class.

Review 107:They told us on reception that we could get a free lift to the centre when we left the hotel. But when we went back to arrange it a different woman was on reception and she booked us a taxi instead, which on arrival in Cadaques charged us 10 euros! I asked the hotel for a refund afterwards as she clearly made a mistake, but no response. This was really dissapointing!!

Review 108:Nice apartments with basic kitchen for preapring simple meals or picnics. The pool was large and nice. Everything was clean. Good location

Review 109:The staff at the reception were extremely friendly and helpful, by far the best aspect of the hotel. We had a room with sea/mountain view. It was worth the extra money. The room was ample and comfortable and had a nice balcony with a small table and a couple of chairs. They have very good parking facilities and you are within walking distance of the centre.

Review 110:Wi-Fi wouldn't connect (authentication problem with old-fashioned WEP encryption) while we were there.

Review 111:Ideally located next to Salvador Dali's house. Very friendly staff, pleasant room, pool and view of the sea. Generous breakfast with lots of interesting items on the buffet.

Review 112:extremely friendly and help full staff

Review 113:Beautiful location on the Mediteranean next to Dali House. Nice walk to town. Very helpful staff.

Review 114:Room was great, location was fantastic.

Review 115:Location , close to Dali hause

Review 116:Poor breakfast, slow wifi

Review 117:Location near to the sea, sea views, free parking, terrasse views, room space

Review 118:There is no hair dyer in the room. The breakfast is quite simple.

Review 119:The Room is very clean.

Review 120:Old bed

Review 121:Great staff

Review 122:Very noise, you can hear noises from all the rooms around you, including the water pipes

Review 123:Pool would be improved by a heater.

Review 124:All the staff were wonderful. Rooms were lovely and exceptionally clean. Top marks.
