Reviews for Parador de Antequera
Review 1:To have information at the hotel we had to scan a symbol which we couldn't do and the reception was not able to help us.
Review 2:It's very pleasant to stay at the hotel and the surrounding is worth to visit.
Review 3:No tea-making facilities !!!! This is sooooooooooooooooo bad for English visitors Poor area to sit and have an aperitif before dinner.
Review 4:Good reception, tranquill public areas.
Review 5:Outside space limited, pool closed, bar very small and not always staffed. Outside of building very unattractive, no views from rooms.
Review 6:Room design and bathrooms good
Review 7:This may seem tough but it is a 4*hotel. Does it rate 10/10 for a 4* hotel? In my opinion, no. 1. The grouting in the shower in my room showed substantial evidence of mould. 2. Although the laundry was done well and to time, replacement laundry bags were not provided. 3. No clear indication of how to obtain service (coffee, etc) on the terrace. 4. Breakfast is pricey. Twice the price of other local hosteleries. Small minded? Pernickety? Perhaps, merits but only 9/10.
Review 8:Like most Paradors it has a good view of surrounding countryside. Virtually everything was satisfactory.
Review 9:Very nice modern hotel. Comfortable bed City 10 mins walk. Large Free car park. Breakfast was excellent with lots of variety and freshly cooked eggs and proper Spanish coffee with hot frothy milk. None of those awful coffee machines that are in nearly all hotels these days. Would def stay again for that reason alone. :-).
Review 10:No balcony. Restaurant lacked ambience - lower lighting and candles would have made such a difference.
Review 11:Excellent staff. Near to town centre. Very good food.
Review 12:General attitude of staff was the least friendly/helpful out of the 7 places we stayed in Andalucía over 2 weeks. Although quality of food at breakfast was good it was served in the restaurant where staff seemed happy to leave tables uncleared/reset for an indefinite time. We, and I watched others, had to set our own tables. It did spoil what is an attractive room having left over food/dirty plates all over.
Review 13:Comfortable room/bed in walking distance of great restaurants in Antequera centre.
Review 14:I felt the hotel was not quite up to usual Parador high standard. It seemed to be lacking atmosphere. In the evening we like to have a drink and some informal dining (eg tapas) so we left the hotel and walked into town each evening as there didn't appear to be a lounge in the hotel.
Review 15:Good location, nice pool, very friendly staff
Review 16:We got a room upgrade for 35 euros which was well worth it. Ended up with a suite comprising lounge with views of pool and mountains huge bedroom and bathroom with double jacuzzi bath.
Review 17:The bathroom was "clean" but you can see that the tiles and edges contain dust and black spots (mold?) as we all have to conquer in our homes. We expected a little more attention for that in a Parador hotel
Review 18:Nice hotel, nice spot, good swimming pool
Review 19:The staff were just a little quite and didn't interact with customers other than the lad who looked after the pool bar. He was on his own for most of the time and hence the service could be slow but he was great
Review 20:The pool and location of the property
Review 21:Honestly, nothing.
Review 22:Everything. Wonderful hotel near to all Antequera has to offer. Beautiful room, pool, coffee shop. Strong WiFi. Really amazing. A great base to explore Ronda, Torcal, Granada, Cordoba, Malaga etc.
Review 23:Beautiful large pool is quite deep (1.4m - 2.4m). Great for swimmers, but less so for young kids who need to be able to stand at the shallow end at least..!
Review 24:Classy, modern hotel. Great location for Antequera old town.
Review 25:Attempting to put up parasols and carrying mattresses by the pool.Cafeteria not open until 3pm.
Review 26:The room, the pool and garden. Easy access to the room.
Review 27:Had a bit of trouble finding it. Road signs could be better placed. You need to take the last exit off the roundabout by the bullring, go up the hill keeping the bus station on your right and then take a left to the Parador.
Review 28:Lovely modern building with large bedrooms and bathrooms. Everything was up to the usual high standard found in the Parador's. Four of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Had a wonderful meal in the restuarant and lots of choice at breakfast. Would stay here again.
Review 29:The staff could have been more proactive in general. For example: regarding the services on offer. Eating at lunchtime, availability of snacks or drinks was unclear. I only found I could have tea served on the terrace on the last day and then I carried outside myself as the staff member seemed unsure as to whether he was allowed to carry it. There are amazing things to see in and around Antequera but we only found out about them through our own research and not the hotel - definitely a missed opp for the local tourist industry.
Review 30:Everything else
Review 31:At times difficult to get drink at bar. Bar area could be so much better.
Review 32:Large room and bathroom. Very modern as newly refurbished with great view of huge rock. Lovely pool.
Review 33:The hotel is a modern building and not the historic type that we have stayed in the past. The evening meal was expensive for what we got and the service was very slow.
Review 34:The location was quiet and was a five minute walk from the bars and restaurants. There was ample parking. The room was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice.
Review 35:We had one lunch in the restaurant, and although the food was very nice, it did lack some atmosphere. It is very big, with a fantastic view, but little atmosphere. The swimming pool was closed as it was April, and there are no other facilities (e.g. gym or sauna). In the room there were no English channels on the TV. I'd taken some DVD's with me so a DVD player would have been nice in order to use the very comfy lounge and two TV's.
Review 36:We upgraded to a suite, which included a lounge and jacuzzi bath, which were both great. Breakfasts were very nice and reception staff and maids were very friendly. Room was quiet, very clean and modern, which made it very relaxing. Fantastic view in the restaurant overlooking the plains. Great location for walking down into lovely Antequerra. The area around Antequerra is really interesting, and a lovely town full of friendly people and lovely food.
Review 37:Not very helpfull staff. Booking asked for a double which we didn't get and when we requested a double at ceckin we were offered a cigarette smoke contaminated room as the only alternative Very quiet, no atmosphere. Took 10 mins to muster a barman to get a drink at the bar.
Review 38:Lovely Hotel
Review 39:Double bed was two singles pushed together with separate duvets Wifi didn't work consistently Would have preferred breakfast to be included for the cost.
Review 40:Location Views Breakfast and views from dining room
Review 41:Careful driving to the Parador as roads are very narrow in places in the town. Our SatNav tried to take us a silly route. Parking is tight outside but good value
Review 42:Brilliant location at the top of the city
Review 43:Found a hair in a bathtube. The free shampoo, bath gel says it is natural, BUT it is full of laureth sulphate, silicons, and other chemicals - it shouldnt be called natural just because it contains no parabens. The baby seat in restaurant is uncomfortable, our baby fell out of it.
Review 44:We loved the silence of the location: it is on the side of the city, no car noise! Room was very big and spacious with a quality linen. Lots of fruits in breakfast and lots of local taste.
Review 45:Information in the room - also I would like to have a drink outside the hotel and with the Swimming Pool not open this proved impossible - so we drank and dined out
Review 46:Location and Staff very nice
Review 47:Hard bed - very uncomfortable for older visitors.VERY late mealtimes. Most UK citizens eat before 9 p.m. and there is absolutely no accommodation for what is a large proportion of the guests. Limited tapas available from the bar which is poorly staffed.
Review 48:The clean functionality of the hotel and lovely position. Good qualitylinen. Excellent room staff.
Review 49:Booked the hotel as a party of 8 and explained on the booking form we were coming to celebrate my 60th birthday, I also told the reception staff that it was my birthday. We met at the bar at 08.00 pm for drinks then went to the hotel restaurant for our meal at about 09.45 pm (very nice meal) left the restaurant at 12.15 am (spending a lot of money in this hotel) went back to the bar for some more drinks only to be told the bar had closed at midnight. After asking the reception staff if they could open the bar we were told the bar is shut and there is nowhere in the hotel to get a drink, so my 60th birthday celebrations ended prematurely soon after. I have never stayed in a 4 or 5 star hotel anywhere in the world were residents could not get served a drink after midnight....especially in Spain. At checkout the following morning I asked at reception to see the manager to complain, and was informed he is not available. I then emailed the company with my complaint, it took them a week to reply to me saying I should have informed them I wanted the bar open after midnight and they would have put on extra staff.....they boast in their adverts about world class service.......what a joke. I emailed them back to say I was not happy with their explanation......I've not heard back from them since. You are only 60 once in your lifetime and it should be a joyous occasion, mine was not.
Review 50:Nice clean modern hotel, good restaurant, close to the centre of town.
Review 51:Provided you don't want any contact with the staff, you will have a wonderful time. They all seemed to melt away when one approached the desk, perhaps not feeling so comfortable with English speakers asking for concierge tips on places to visit? We really enjoyed two local eateries which were highly recommended by travel sites, and both had fabulous local characters operating the establishments.
Review 52:We used Antiquerra as a base for day visits to Ronda and other towns. Antiquerra is not a fascinating town, but is a good site for day visits. The hotel was well located, had a huge amount of parking and had very spacious and well appointed rooms with all creature comforts. All the facilities and equipment worked well.
Review 53:- Out of the way for the town centre - Very quiet and lacked atmosphere
Review 54:- Free Parking - Excellent free wi-fi - Attentive staff - Spacious room and very comfortable bed
Review 55:Nothing.
Review 56:Great location, extremely comfortable and very helpful staff. Very clean. Lovely 5min walk to cafes and shops; easy to find inexpensive place to eat. Will definitely go back. Highly recommend it.
Review 57:My wife is gluten free, bread and cakes were available but all out of date and mouldy. breakfast poor value. cooked only luke-warm.
Review 58:Bright and clean and spacious rooms-
Review 59:Hotel was full the day we were there, but couldn't get a drink until we made a fuss. The staff on reception were excellent. but didn't see any of the others. There was no menu outside the restaurant.
Review 60:Location.
Review 61:Restaurant was overpriced, sterile, and the the staff was unfriendly and seemingly off-put by our presence, even though it was not busy.
Review 62:Everything except for the restaurant.
Review 63:Location is fine for those with a car, but a little difficult without one. Room price very good but meals and extras expensive.
Review 64:Comfortable clean rooms with excellent quality fittings. Nicely designed modern building. Allowed access to room on arrival despite arriving very early and well before normal check-in. Kept pool open in late October (normally closed 30/9) because of unseasonal hot weather.
Review 65:It was 27 Deg in the early evening when we arrived, however the manager had turned off the building's air con as it was Autumn. Turns out the hotel does not have individual air con in rooms, but a system that cools the building. To his credit, the air con was turned on after we complained.
Review 66:Stayed here before, love the friendly town. Good design, large rooms, quiet, clean. Few minutes walk from town, free parking in a generally quiet spot.
Review 67:The restaurant staff was apparently 'season worn out' and did not feel much obliged to act as host to the guests
Review 68:Very nicely located with good views of Antequera and surroundings. Good and comfortable room. Nice pool and sun area.
Review 69:The outdoor seating was limited.
Review 70:The location was excellent within easy distance of the town. Our room was clean and comfy. Eating facilities were adequate.
Review 71:Attitude of bar man appalling. Very rude indeed. Had to walk out.
Review 72:Room very comfortable and well appointed. Great location - 2 minute walk to the city. Reception staff very helpful. Restaurant great.
Review 73:Very poor restaurant service. Very few staff so that at breakfast had to clear a table of dirty crockery to have breakfast. Only 1 waitress in restaurant to clear tables, and all other duties. No bowls, cups etc. Food OK. Very poor management. Similar poor service at dinner and at café. Does NOT deserve 4 star rating.
Review 74:Location and quality of room.
Review 75:Reception staff very friendly and really helpful. Don't believe reviews that say that it's a long way from the town. It isn't a long way, it's less than five minutes from good but cheap restaurants and attractions. Would certainly choose it again.
Review 76:Breakfast / dinner should start earlier (8am / 8pm) especially if you want to go out for the day / evening.
Review 77:Friendly staff, very quiet location good for relaxing, nice pool, nice rooms, reasonable price
Review 78:Nothing
Review 79:We have always liked Paradores and this one in Antequera was very special. Unlike many it is a modern building but very well designed with excellent furnishings. Very friendly staff.
Review 80:We chose this parador because of Antequera's location within 1 to 1-1/2 hours of Granada, Marbella, Sevilla, and Cordoba. We didn't expect that the facility itself would be so luxurious and the the setting would be so beautiful. Also, the restaurant was terrific. We loved our stay there.
Review 81:Great location with a good pool. A quality hotel with very comfortable room and good breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Five minute walk to the main street with cafes and bars, Plenty of free carparking on site.
Review 82:Lunch was very disappointing Restaurant staff seem disinterested No atmospher in restaurant although beautiful view Poor menu and service during lunch Breakfast staffing limited - queue of people waiting for cups to serve coffee
Review 83:Beautiful bedroom Lovely view Helpful reception staff Excellent breakfast choices and quality food
Review 84:one bar area which didnt open until after 1pm and closed approx 11.30 pm.breakfast is extra--15 euro pp per day
Review 85:the location for travellers wishing to visit seville, cordoba and granada is excellent. hotel very clean with beds changed twice in one week. very close to main eating area in antequera---5 minutes at most
Review 86:Only weakness was that whilst food was excellent the main restaurant offered only one set menu the whole week so we ended up using our half board to eat tapas from the bar menu.
Review 87:Just back from a week long holiday stay. Took a hire care from Malaga airport then used this hotel as a base to do day trips to Granada, Cordoba, Seville, Ronda and the El Torcal National Park. The real surprise was how much there was to see and do in Antequera itself (fortress, church, dolmens, town). This modern hotel was spotlessly clean and well maintained with easy parking. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pool & surroundings were a delight to lounge in and the views from here, the bar and the restaurant over the Andalusian plains were stunning. Cloudless days meant the air-con was especially welcome.
Review 88:Staff smoking on duty in the cafeteria and smelling of cigarette smoke in the dining room in the evening. Breakfast disappointing, although there was a good choice of things we did not want. Disappointing evening meal, expensive wine served in average bar type wine glasses.
Review 89:good location for access to Antequera (fully walkable) Very comfortable room Airy atmosphere
Review 90:The whole package was superb. Very friendly and attentive staff, nothing too much trouble. Excellent restaurant, great menu and superb food, thoroughly enjoyed the three day break, will go again.
Review 91:After check in and arriving at the pool area, in it turns out there are tens of people frantically running around, setting up for a (big) wedding party: rearranging furniture, installing sound- and light installations, etc. Pool and bar facilities were usable, but clearly disturbed and certainly not making for a relaxing atmosphere...Thought management should at least have mentioned this at time of check in. During the night the wedding party was noisily roaming the hallways... Non of front desk staff spoke any English - for a hotel of this standard unacceptable. We admittedly arrived late at breakfast, but staff started clearing up buffet swiftly and without warning or asking us if we'd like to have something else. Unfriendly and unprofessional.
Review 92:Modern decorated, spacey and comfortable room and bathroom. Restaurant has amazing views. Professional housekeeping staff.
Review 93:Staff could be friendlier on reception
Review 94:Modern rooms. Complimentary water, fruit and chocolates! Just remember to refresh them!

Review 107:Bar and restaurant closed to early
Review 108:Very quiet hotel. Spacious room. Clean and lovely breakfast
Review 109:A green and cool oasis within easy walk of town centre

Review 120:See above
Review 121:Pool area very nice with great views. Only a 10 minute walk from town with lots of restaurants and bars etc at night.
Review 122:Difficulty to buy a snack mid afternoon.
