Reviews for Hotel Du Mail
Review 1:The hotel is under renovation (Dec. 2015) and the rooms yet to refurbish feel quite old.
Review 2:Clearly the highlight is its location, at walking distance of most historic attractions. The facade of the building is very nice.
Review 3:Spacious very comfortable room with large bathroom , close to centre of town but in a much appreciated quiet setting away from late night noise. Good breakfast and pleasant staff , I will certainly return and have recommended to friends . Thank you
Review 4:This hotel is situated within easy walking distance of the city centre. The hotel itself is housed in a former convent and it has a lot of character. It has secure parking and it served a good French breakfast. The staff were welcoming and helpful, it is quiet at night and the rooms are a good size. All in all a very nice place to stay when visiting Anger.
Review 5:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was very good for seeing all the attractions. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful and the bedroom very clean and comfortable.
Review 6:Nothing negative.
Review 7:Terrific location to walk to historic sites and restaurants. Very helpful staff. Bicycle friendly. Quality and modern renovations throughout. Very clean and excellent bedding and mattress. Petit dejeuner has lots of variety but more expensive than most hotels.
Review 8:No problems
Review 9:Lovely old hotel in part of an old nunnery. A little hard to find down one way streets but very handy for the city centre, with lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Large room and comfortable bed Very friendly receptionists with not too much English, which gave us a chance to try out our rusty school French! Good breakfast in large dining room. Small courtyard car park (7 Euros a night), although they managed to cram in several cars
Review 10:Would have liked air conditioning. Modern bathroom was very small.
Review 11:Staff were wonderful especially as we had no French and they had limited English. This all added to the experience. A great location and a fine continental breakfast.
Review 12:Room was lovely, very large and spotlessly clean. Think it was a disabled room so had a huge bathroom with lots of space. Was in a separate entrance across courtyard but still felt secure. Hotel was 5 minutes walk to city centre and parking a huge bonus.
Review 13:We paid what we thought was a very reasonable price for the hotel. However 11 euros per person was more than a little over the top. On top of that it was 7 euros per night to park the car, then city tax. That was over 100 euros added to our stay overall. There was no bar at the hotel which would have improved things no end. The owners disappeared very early in the evening and you let yourself in when you came back in the evening. So there was not chance of meeting other guests.
Review 14:The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The location was extremely good for seeing the city on foot.
Review 15:Bath with shower attachment, rather than traditional shower unit; may not suit all. But everything else more than makes up for this small lapse.
Review 16:Very friendly and helpful staff. En suite room very clean and comfortable. Good location with secure car park.
Review 17:The bedding was a bit old and tired. Blankets, no doonas. Carpet needed replacing. I think they are in the process of updating the rooms and we were in one of the rooms waiting for updating. There is no lift in the hotel however the staff are more than willing to help with your luggage.
Review 18:The ambience and location. An old convent building very close to the centre and attractions. Clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 19:Nothing bad.
Review 20:The hotel was located a short walking distance from the town centre. Car parking available on site. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although the room was relatively basic, it was clean with all the essentials. Perfect for a nights stay. Really good value for the money.
Review 21:Beds are a bit hard and the pillows are a bit to soft, I needed 3 of them. Strange thing is that you have to handover your car keys when you arrive. They will move your car without permission.
Review 22:The atmosphere of the hotel is great, the staff is very friendly and we had a free upgrade to the superior room. location is perfect, 2 min walk to the city Centre.
Review 23:Internet connection was weak at times
Review 24:In addition to all of the above things such as blankets rather than doona allow guests to adjust bedding to their liking. Breakfast was good & hotel has delightful character whilst being nicely renovated. Staff pleasant & helpful
Review 25:The hotel was being renovating, so it was half new half old, and didn't have elevator, and we had to climb a lot of stair with our luggage
Review 26:The staff was very friendly, the breakfast really good and the location is great, near from the chateau de angers, the cathedral and bars and restaurants
Review 27:WiFi was not working perfectly.
Review 28:We liked the room layout! From the high ceilings and the tasteful wallpapers, to the shutters with remote system, everything was well thought. The bedroom and bathroom are very generously appointed, with lots of space and comfort. We did not try the breakfast, so no opinion about it. Location is central, so walking distance from all local amenities, at the same time it is tucked away in a quiet location! So for me, this equals excellent location.
Review 29:We were directed to a very average restaurant for dinner in the Main Street which had no atmosphere
Review 30:This hotel is centrally placed in Aners with a carming courtyard. The surrounding streets were full of character
Review 31:My husband is a wheelchair user and though the bedroom was groundfloor there was a step up into the hallway where the bedroom was located. A ramp would have helped
Review 32:The bedroom was beautifully decorated and the ensuite faciilties were lovely.
Review 33:Our room was basic and charmless.
Review 34:The hotel was well located within walking distance from the old town. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was bread, croissants, yogurt, juice and coffee.
Review 35:Sheets and blankets - awkward if you're used to duvets. And it could do with some freshening up. No lift in a city hotel isn't good.
Review 36:Everything was just OK with this place. Good for an overnight stop to somewhere else if Angers was has to be it.
Review 37:Lots of stairs to negotiate, complex hotel layout.
Review 38:Comfortable, quiet room; helpful and accommodating staff.
Review 39:Location
Review 40:Bedside lights poor light for reading
Review 41:Position Historic building Staff
Review 42:The hotel is in a nice quiet area but not far from the main town The staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 43:2nd floor no lift lots of luggage , had told shower whilst standing in bath
Review 44:Good position very friendly staff
Review 45:Pleasant and obliging staff, good location with excellent facilities .
Review 46:The hotel has a nice atmosphere
Review 47:The advised restaurant was not good. Staff can have better knowlegde of what to do or where to eat closed to the hotel
Review 48:Calm and in the city center
Review 49:Lots of character plus very comfortable. Helpful, welcoming hosts and staff.
Review 50:Nothing!
Review 51:Beautiful old building with secure parking in a very quiet part of Angers. Staff were excellent, friendly and so helpful.

Review 53:Huge room, good breakfast and great location

Review 57:Wonderful friendly welcome. Beautiful room and massive comfortable bed. Great location
Review 58:nothing
Review 59:charm of the building and comfort of the large room, central location but very quiet
Review 60:Friendly and helpful staff, an excellent city centre location with safe and affordable parking. Breakfast was comprehensive and served with a smile
Review 61:No lift
Review 62:Convenient location Parking Atmosphere
Review 63:Lovely room, excellent central location, the owners couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, very good breakfast.
Review 64:Clean. Good location. Helpful owners. Price.
Review 65:The hotel was on the process of being refurbished. This was not a problem but our room was tired and will be brilliant when refurbished.
Review 66:Lovation. The courtyard and I could park the cR in the city centre
Review 67:Unfortunately when we arrived there had been an electrical breakdown due we suspect to the extensive refurbishment work that we being carried out to the hotel. As promised it was fixed within a couple of hours and did not inconvenience us. Difficult to give a clear judgement on the hotel due to the works. I had stayed at the hotel about 12 years ago and had fond memories of my time there. Once the work is done I am sure it will be lovely once more.
Review 68:The original courtyard setting with typical French shutters, garden furniture etc.
Review 69:Nothing not to like
Review 70:I liked the fact that Monsieur and Madame Duval are running a hotel which they love and of which they are justifiably proud. They and their staff were courteous, friendly, helpful and prepared to help with bookings, advice and arrangements for their guests and nothing seemed too much trouble. The hotel itself is quirky, historic and interesting in a very central but quiet location.
Review 71:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Proximity to the medieval sector and Chateau Angers with the Apocalypse tapestries was our reason for choosing this hotel. We highly recommend
Review 72:No lift to 2nd floor. Steep winding staircase.
Review 73:Good central position. Helpful staff. Nice old building but in need of some updating. En-suite fine.
Review 74:Absolutely perfect! Nice and helpful staff, extremely quiet amidst Angers' historical town center, great breakfast, lovely room, spacious and clean!
Review 75:Just missed having an overhead shower but it's a very minor point
Review 76:Lovely old building, excellent quiet location on the edge of city centre, only 10 minutes walk through shopping district to cathedral and chateau, helpful staff who also organised car parking so you could always get in or out, good breakfast for €10 with quality, quantity and variety, close to a variety of restaurants so all in all a good choice.
Review 77:A screen or curtain round the bath would have made showering easier.
Review 78:Elegant hotel near town centre with parking. Exceptionally pleasant and helpful staff. Great choice of breads and cakes at breakfast.
Review 79:Having to pay for on-site parking.
Review 80:Location in the heart of Angers. On site parking, Great breakfast. Appears to have been a high end hotel at some point but a little threadbare in spots. Large room.
Review 81:There is no lift. We were in a room with a sloping ceiling and as we are both quite tall this was uncomfortable.
Review 82:The room was centrally located and very clean. The parking on site is a bonus. Helpful staff.
Review 83:A little bit shabby in places. No bar. No indoor lounge area.
Review 84:Location was excellent, and the private courtyard was great. Car parking was a bonus. Very secure. Great staff.
Review 85:Very difficult to actually get to the hotel. Lot's of "No right turn" signs looked like we couldn't drive but then eventually saw another car ignore these signs and managed to get there after going around in circles for a while! Having no lift did not bother us but might be a problem for some people.
Review 86:This is a little gem of a hotel just 3 min walk from the centre of Angers. It is set in a beautiful old building with a beautiful private courtyard to park in. Staff were extremely helpful. Room was clean. Excellent location. Would stay there again.
Review 87:The room was drab and bared no resemblance to the photos on bookingsite. The wash basin was cracked and there was mould in the showercubicle. Disappointed.
Review 88:The location is brilliant. Breakfast was good with plenty of variety butat an extra cost of 11 euros per person. Staff very attentive.
Review 89:It seemed at first impossible to gain access to the hotel, because ofthe one-way system, but when we left the car and walked to the hotel, the people there explained that in some roads the system applied toheavy vehicles only. They marked our best route on a map for us, withhelpful comments, and we had no difficulty at all after that.
Review 90:The friendly, cheerful and extremely helpful staff; they did theirutmost to iron out the odd difficulty (see next box). The graceful architecture and pleasant decor. The constant availability of parking in the courtyard - achieved by the owner shuffling guests' cars around himself, so that nobody was inconvenienced. Easy walking distance to the castle, cathedral, museums etc. TV listings in room, + helpful instructions. Good-sized bath, and mini-bar.
Review 91:Excellent breakfast. Parking in yard at back and worked very well. Location close to Jardin du Mail which are superb and also have a very good restaurant.
Review 92:A lovely French, rather than 'chain' hotel, in the centre of this delightful city. Extremely central and within a short walking distance of the main attractions. Extremely helpful and friendly young male receptionist.
Review 93:No proper shower - had to kneel down in the bath to use a handheld shower attachment. Very small toilet.
Review 94:Nice old character building in the centre of Angers. Good on-site parking. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 95:Hotel interior looking tired and top floor rooms not the best.
Review 96:Location plus car parking is great for a city. Angers is a good place for a couple of days.
Review 97:We were welcomed by a very helpful and friendly staff. Limited English didn't prevent us communicating well and feeling very well cared for. It is delightful to stay in old accommodation that has been so tastefully restored in the midst of a wonderful historic city and region.
Review 98:attic room which was not very welcoming. nice decor in reception and hallway but rest of hotel looks very tired
Review 99:location excellent if somewhat difficult to drive to. fantastic breakfast. parking huge advantage if somewhat small when hotel is full
Review 100:Lovely quiet hotel, very close to the centre of Angers, with parking.Absolutely superb breakfast with nice coffee - (not the usual terriblecoffee you get in French hotels). Very nice room, pleasant staff. Woulddefinitely go back.
Review 101:I always have trouble establishing internet connection. It is often slowor simply won't connect. Would love a kettle in the room for making myown tea/coffee as in british & irish hotels...
Review 102:Excellent location, very friendly and personal staff, beautiful, historic building, lovely decoration
Review 103:Very convenient location for exploring Angers. Very quiet - especially for a city location. Secure parking on site, excellent breakfast. helpful staff.
Review 104:No lift but this was only a minor inconvenience.
Review 105:Lovely old building, had a comfort room which was spacious and had a nice bathroom. Very conveniently situated near town centre but secluded and quiet with secure parking. Very friendly helpful staff. Excellent breakfast for the price. Deserves more than its two stars in our opinion.
Review 106:Facilities in the rooms not as comprehensive as they might have been.
Review 107:Great staff, lovely place, beautiful rooms. Good location from which to tour the city on foot.
Review 108:Nothing.
Review 109:The staff was great! They were so kind and friendly that I felt comfortable during my stay at the hotel. As a matter of course, the room was clean and quiet. I really enjoyed my stay.
Review 110:No proper directions provided to get to the hotel and lots of "no entry signs" so that we had to stop at the tourist office to get a map and directions. For a while we had no idea how we would be able to get there due to the number of signs saying no right turn and drove round in circles.
Review 111:Interesting building. Pleasant room with TV that worked (not alll hotels have TV's that actually work!) Nice bathroom. Central location convenient for shopping and seeing the city centre. Very friendly and helpful staff on arrival and during the rest of our stay. We left a bag and coat behind and received an email from the hotel as soon as we arrived back home so that we were aware of the situation and could decide how to deal with it. Top marks for all these things!
Review 112:Although we were travelling as a three we were given one of the smallest rooms - it was big enough - and spacious compared to many city hotel rooms but had an odd layout and very cramped bathroom. Would have been more favourable if it had included breakfast.
Review 113:It was a beautiful old building in a very convenient location
Review 114:We got a special welcome with suggestions for local restaurants andwe're given a map and other information. The town is remarkable withwide boulevards and squares, efficient trams and plentiful shopping andchoice of restaurants. The chateau and 147 metre tapestry is a must(worth getting the audio guide). Breakfast excellent with homemade jamsand range menu choices.
Review 115:If driving to The Hotel Du Mail, the one way system can be a problem.
Review 116:Superb location. Parking available. Well maintained. distinctive period building building. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfy room and a great breakfast.
Review 117:We loved Hotel Du Mail! The location was great for walking all over Angers. Great for shopping, eating, sight-seeing! Our car was parked securely at the hotel. There was a fabulous charm about the place and our room was very comfortable and pretty! I would definitely recommend this hotel to all and hope to return myself one day!
Review 118:I would have preferred to have tea/coffee making faciliies in the room. This is not a complaint just a suggestion.
Review 119:The Du Mail is a small family run hotel, we found the staff to be veryfriendly and helpful. The location was perfect as we were visitingAngers to attend a family wedding, it was close to the venue and allother amenities. We booked breakfast and found this to be exellent valuefor money. The rooms were cleaned and freash towels left daily. This isthe first time my husband an I have visited Angers but would gladlyrecommend the Hotel Du Mail to our friends and would definitely returnourselves..
Review 120:Room was small, bathroom even smaller and very dark. Door stop in the floor on which to stub your toe every time you use the toilet. Toiilet located in what appeared to be a cupboard at some time.
Review 121:Very friendly and helpful staff. Close to the town center, full of charm and character. Lovley view from the window.
Review 122:The staff couldn't have been more friendly, helpful (i.e. recommending a very good restaurant in the evening) helping with maps. Breakfast was delicious. Charmingly positioned right in the centre of the old town. A convent around a courtyard - lovely
Review 123:The hotel is a bit hard to find, since the street is a no turn (but onlyafter many mistakes we found that the sign was only for big cars). Thegps kept orienting to turn but we thought it was not permitted. Thismade us lose a considerable time and stress. I think that it would bevery helpful if the hotel could send an email for the guests with areminder about it (like other hotels did for me).Another very unconfortable thing was the shower, since there was a bath tub in the bathroom but the shower was only at the tub level. The shower could have been fixed higher, so that both a person willing the tub or the shower, could be confortable.
Review 124:Very nice breakfast, free parking, friendly personnel.
The Fine Print
