Reviews for Berghotel Kockelsberg

Review 1:Lovely location, friendly, helpful staff, excellent breakfast. Enjoyed a beautiful walk through the woods to the town, passing by the animal park. Christmas market was wonderful. A fantastic weekend.

Review 2:The room description on booking.com wasn't accurate. This meant we booked two apartments instead of one , greater expense but still reasonable.

Review 3:We visited this place 4 years ago and this time , the hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Dinner excellent and great forest walks all around. Magical place!

Review 4:Noise at night - probably the heating system. Never book a budget room here: single digit room number means a sleepless night. This rating is only for the cheap first floor rooms! Wifi didn't work on first floor even when standing next to the router. Room is small and dark.

Review 5:Excellent view. Restaurant and breakfast.

Review 6:None

Review 7:Location is good, parking very convenient, staff friendly, good choice of breakfast. Bedroom with a panoramic view of Trier City, would definitely stay here again!

Review 8:Stayed before will stay again, this time in a room overlooking the city. Wifi was great in this room, vs three years ago in a room to the back side. Looking over Trier at night is worth the extra money.

Review 9:A bit far way from centre on a hill top but if walking/hiking no problem then doesn't matter. Taxi cost around 15€.

Review 10:Really relaxing place, amazing breakfast and nice dinner. Surroundings good for hiking. Nice to walk to centre trough forrest. Would go back!

Review 11:Wifi was not working. Some staff members seemed indifferent and not very friendly.

Review 12:The room and view were wonderful, comfortable bed, very spacious room and new en suite bathroom.

Review 13:The pillows were far too soft for me, no support for head and neck.

Review 14:Room was large with seating area, nice decor. Good quality wooden floor.View over Trier. Good food in restaurant.

Review 15:Excellent service, clean and modern facilities, gorgeous view over Trier from the terrace of the restaurant, good location to explore the city if you have a car.

Review 16:Classic German hotel, above the river with an awesome view. Dining inside and out was excellent, and view to the valley from our room was superb. German language was preferred but they understood English, too. Quiet and beautiful!

Review 17:nothing

Review 18:loved everything, we got a great room with a small patio outside which was very cosy during the night. We got wine from the hotel to drink there. Very nice and helpful staff and location is quiet and relaxing. It´s a 45min walk to downtown thru a forrest and then along side a wildlife park :)

Review 19:Great location on a hill with wonderful view of town. The food was very good at both breakfast and evening meal and we would certainly stay there again.

Review 20:No tea/coffee facilities in the room - although able to get refreshments from upstairs in the bar.

Review 21:Very comfortable room and beautiful view from the restaurant. We had evening meal and the food was really nice. Staff were very helpful.

Review 22:Location from town was further than some may want. We walked to and from but definitely not for people who are not in shape.

Review 23:Lovely hotel and great view back to the city and surrounding area. Wonderful restaurant with good selection and reasonable prices. Staff very efficient and cordial. Comfortable rooms with decent wifi.

Review 24:My room wasn't as nice as previous visits. Had the views to Trier from ground level but bathroom was small & difficult to operate in unlike the bathrooms of upstairs rooms we had stayed in previously. Disappointing as we were taking friends around Germany & wanted it to be special on our last couple of days there.

Review 25:The views from the balcony to Trier below. The meals & services available most of the day. Being able to get a cake & coffee or a beer etc.

Review 26:Nothing to complain about.

Review 27:The hotel is located on a hill top with a beautiful view from the restaurant. Gluten free alternatives for breakfast. The staff was very helpful. Free parking.

Review 28:No elevators.

Review 29:The hotel is located on a hilltop outside of Trier overlooking the Moselle river valley. The rooms were clean and the staff was courteous. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant both of which were enjoyable. I would stay here again.

Review 30:Wifi quality was a bit unstable.

Review 31:Very nice view from the restaurant terras. Good quality food too. Very easy to find. Plenty of parking places. Close to centre as well.

Review 32:Fantastic setting looking over Trier. Staff very friendly all spoke English. Secure parking for my motorcycle. Plenty of choice for Evening meal very resonable price good select of wines and beers. Good nights sleep large comfortable bed and room.

Review 33:We loved it! The hotel was well outside of Trier, on a hillside with a panoramic view of the town and the vineyards. We enjoyed Mother's Day dinner and a wonderful breakfast in the dining room with a vista! The English speaking staff was friendly and accommodating in every way possible. The room was clean and quiet - located one flight down on the hillside location.

Review 34:Our room was on third floor with no lift. Up in the roof with not too much room.

Review 35:The view from the hotel terrace. The generous buffet breakfast for 5 Euro. The friendly staff and very friendly resident beagle dog.

Review 36:Friendly staff but the owners need to be more polite Lack of facilities e.g. fridge in the room

Review 37:Breakfast (Excellent value for money) and dinner Location (out of town but relaxing location) Great view onto the hills and the city of Trier

Review 38:"forest view room" was actually a view of the construction project across the parking lot.

Review 39:lovely spot. good service. nice restaurant with beautiful view. clean room. well-situated to visit trier and the nice restaurants on the Mosel.

Review 40:Small thing, it would have been nice if the room would have had a fridge.

Review 41:Beautiful location on top of a hill with a view of Trier, they upgraded us for free upon finding out. Breakfast is 5 euro pp, a bargain for what they offer. We loved it.

Review 42:Construction next door obstructed any view from our room, and some stray equipment laying around the exterior left us in no doubt that it was "off season."

Review 43:The hotel was beautiful and the restaurant obviously a local hangout - good to know the food is that good. The staff was friendly and the resident dog added a bit of charm. The room was comfortable, if a bit small.

Review 44:Unfortunately, the hotel was not able to meet my demand to have a room with a view.

Review 45:Great hotel, staff is very friendly. The restaurant has a astonishing view on the city.

Review 46:Shower was semi-blocked and flooded bathroom floor. Room was a bit dusty and dirty in a few spots.

Review 47:Ambience of staying in a grand old home/castle type place. Comfortable and quiet Good restaurant, very good for dinner Good breakfast Friendly dog Beautiful view over Trier (when it wasn't foggy).

Review 48:Nothing.

Review 49:Our room was spacious and modern, with a view of Trier across the terrace. It was quiet and comfortable and parking was more than ample. Breakfast was excellent!

Review 50:There was nothing not to like

Review 51:From the moment I arrived I was made to feel welcome. It was easy to find and car park was free and at the door step. Traditional food and the terrace had stunning views

Review 52:As is typical of off the beaten path German bed and breakfast places, it did not have an elevator, so we did have to haul our suitcases up the steps. Not much of a problem for us, but may be for an older couple.

Review 53:The location and view was great. We really enjoyed the buffet breakfast. Dinner on the balcony overlooking Trier was special. Great location for hikers. We did not get to the hotel until very late at night, they told us that the staff would not be available and how we should get in. It all went very smoothly and we appreciated the consideration.

Review 54:Lack of minibar.

Review 55:Very friendly staff who made us feel welcome. Beautifull view from the restaurant. Child and pet friendly location. Hotel is located direct near the forest.

Review 56:Very tobacco-centric; non-smoking room, but pervasive tobacco smoke odor in hallways.

Review 57:Rustic location, panoramic view of city, free parking, comfortable bed, ample breakfast choices, friendly staff

Review 58:no bathtub

Review 59:the view was great and the staff, especially Erica, went out of their way to be helpful. Room was comfortable and breakfast for E5 per person was excellent.

Review 60:The small fold-out bed (for the 3rd person) was not so comfortable.

Review 61:The view of the valley overlooked Trier, and the balcony were exceptional, and not expected. The triple room was large and comfortable. I even liked the 1980s decor, that is still in very good condition.

Review 62:no elevator is a ways from downtown so need to use a vehicle for access

Review 63:friendly staff excellent breakfast at a good price beautiful building and view comfortable bed

Review 97:Its difficult withiut a car

Review 98:Location and view and restaurant /breakfast.

Review 99:Very friendly and helpful staff serving very Good food. Its location gave us very safe good parking.

Review 100:Atmosphere of 'welcome'. Food was good; all the staff were attentive and helpful. A place to come back to.

Review 101:No Wi Fi in room Wi Fi only in lobby

Review 102:Excellent breakfast for 5 Euro/person

Review 103:Exceptional breakfast, by far the best on our 3 month European vacation. Quiet rooms.

Review 104:hallway lighting was ominous for people staying below the main level

Review 105:Staff and food was quite good.

Review 106:Great views Great service Great food Great beer 10 out of 10

Review 107:The staff was friendly but geered for the average tourist. My German husband did not need to be adressed in broken English by the Asian waiter, for example. We speak German. It is Germany....

Review 108:Lovely property, quiet at night with paths for walking. The view from the restaurant was amazing, of all of Trier. We really enjoyed the dinner and the wonderful breakfast buffet. All was reasonably priced. Rooms were large enough and baths were above average at this price range.

Review 109:There was abad smell in the bathroom but the staff put some spray to get rid of it which isn't the best way to deal with the issue but there weren't any rooms left so they couldn't put us in another room.

Review 110:Beautiful spot and hotel overlooking the city of Trier. Great buffet breakfast for 5 euros! the best view!

Review 111:It is not a suitable hotel for traveling with babies. There is even no elevator. The bathroom is small, different from the pictures. There even no mini bar in the room as in normal hotels . Hotel to avoid if you do not have a car.

Review 112:The view and the breakfast are nice,

Review 113:After French and Benilux castle-type hotels the furniture looks ugly and cheap. And the sheet was too old. My opinion that castle must have authentic old style furniture and little bit cleaner please.

Review 114:Beautiful view to the city. Good and authentic restaurant. Small but true castle.

Review 115:Stunning view over Trier from both the restaurant and the room. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great value for money and good quality food in restaurant (the breakfast buffet was delicious and cost only 5 euros!) We will definitely stay there again next time we visit Trier.

Review 116:No rubber bathtub mats; rooms in another building appart from the castle; a little chilly in the bedroom, too hot in the breakfast hall

Review 117:View from the breakfast hall; having a suite instead of a room with extra bed, no extra charge

Review 118:wifi speed and reception a bit hit and miss, since one has to pay for it in the rooms. Bed only comfy if you like a very firm mattress.

Review 119:location is very convenient for Trier with great views from the restaurant and safe, free parking Good value breakfast. Our room was very spacious

Review 120:The room was very small so it is only suitable for a short stay. Not aholiday place in case all rooms are the sames as the one we had.Only one electrical socket in the room to charge all our gadgets.

Review 121:Fantastic veiw, great terrace outside our room and in the restaurant, friendly and helpful staff, great food, good value for the money also inthe restaurant.

Review 122:price it is a bit expensive, cause it is very good but not for 100 euro per night including breakfast The first night heater does not work but they made us a special price.

Review 123:staff was really nice. restaurant execellent

Review 124:Meals served for dinner are generous and inexpensive, but a bit too greasy in our opinion. The owner's dog was 'marking his territory' one morning in the breakfast room. I wasn't too bothered by it, but certainly hygiene doesn't seem to be the hotel's priority either.

Review 125:Great location, friendly staff and a good breakfast
