Reviews for Casa Palacio de los Leones

Review 1:Apartment lacked a terrace and had a grubby back yard. Kitchen Spartan with few cooking items and no oven.

Review 2:Close to local market with plenty of fish, meat and fresh veg. Characterful old building with lovely courtyard. Nice roof terrace with sun loungers and good clothes drying area.

Review 3:Everything was perfect, especially the location. Beautiful old building. The guy at the reception desk waited for us although the late check-in. He gave us an useful info about the surroundings. Thank you.

Review 4:Beautiful facility with a lot of history. Well-equipped and spacious apartment had everything one would need for an extended stay. Good dining options nearby.

Review 5:- Washing liquid and a sponge or brush would have been great!

Review 6:- The location was excellent! It could not be closer to the center. The closest bar was 1 meter away from the door and the market hall was at 10 m. The closest supermarket was at 200m, bakery 30 m and restaurant area 500m. - The public parking was at 400 m and it cost 3,95€/whole day. We did not have any difficulties to find a place there in October. - The service at the reception was friendly and helpful. - The room was cute and cosy. Very good for couples, friends and families.

Review 7:A self catering apartment it wasn't ie no kettle, no toaster, no grill, no microwave dishes, insufficient glasses etc so no ability to cook the local produce. Decor of the apartment was worn and dated.

Review 8:Excellent location in the old part of town near a food market with plenty of shops and local activity. The building and access areas have been extensively restored and it has a lift. It could be magnificent.

Review 9:as the apartment was faced to the inside patio it got a little bit noisy during the night(if you have opened windows)

Review 10:everything was just perfect, very spacy apartment, clean, comfortable plus very nice and helpfull guy at the reception

Review 11:not very quiet. You hear everything from the neighbour flat and from the inner yard, since all the windows point there...

Review 12:Very good location, good price.

Review 13:- there are smoking apartments and man can smoke in front of the reception which leaves an unpleasant smell and plenty butts

Review 14:- the apartments are in a 1700 building - very spanish (I loved that)

Review 15:finding car park but that's what you get in a city built for packhorses. kitchen a bit short on cooking stuff

Review 16:location, atmosphere..rooms cleaned/beds made daily. staff super. roof terrace. paid extra for a aptment with window onto street rather than the internal balcony

Review 17:Noisy at night from neighbouring apartments.

Review 18:Right in centre of town, very convenient and friendly staff, great value for money. Can be used as a base for Cadiz ( ferry 10 mins walk and 2.60 euros) but P de SM has also much to offer.

Review 19:No bad experiences.

Review 20:Roomy apartment in an historic building close almost next door to the municipal market and Plaza de Espana. Within walking distance of the major attractions of El Puerto including Bodegas and nightlife centre. Convenient, inexpensive parking nearby. Couldn't be better as a base to explore this beautiful city.

Review 21:WiFi seemed to have some problems when there were a lot of guests in the hotel.

Review 22:Excellent place. The hotel is at the center of the old town, next to wonderful cafes, shops and market hall. The area was very lively during the daytime but very peaceful during the night. The hotel itself was extraordinary. When I entered the hotel, I thought that I had arrived to an extremely beautiful museum. The hotel has been renovated and modernized but many beautiful old features have been kept in the historical building. My apartment was spacious, peaceful and well equipped. There was also fabulous patio on the roof where you could lie or sit in the sun and admire the view over the old town. The staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful. Very clean and well-kept place. I had wonderful time in this hotel.

Review 23:The interior of the accommodation was a little disappointing after having sen the outside..ie furniture shabby and missing light-bulbs

Review 24:The history and well done restoration of the building,it´s location was good and everything was clean

Review 25:A lot of noise from outside in the middle of the night due to the bins being emptied, street washed etc, and we are talking 2.30 am, with binmen shouting at each other ! The restaurant downstairs means there is plenty of noise through the day too, so don't expect a peaceful retreat!Kitchen basic and wifi temperamental .

Review 26:Spacious apartment with balcony windows in a beautiful old building right in the centre of the old town. Roof terrace with drying area and close to all the shops. The furnishings were basic and although we stayed in winter , could imagine it being nice and cool in the summer heat. About 10 min walk to the river .

Review 27:When we arrived, the reception was closed (despite we came during its declared opening hours). So, read carefully the direction to the hotel where they leave the keys. Also the kitchen had washing liquid, but nothing like salt or oil

Review 28:Very nice historic venue, kitchen with whole facilities including washing machine, super-nice terrace with city view, two inner courty-yards with floweres, air-conditioning (which can also be used as heating), very nice city market is nearby and... there's a ferry to Cadiz, which takes 30mins and 2,65 euro!

Review 29:It is hard to drive yr car to the site so ,like many, we parked in the E 3.95 car park 450 m away and walked with luggage to find the Apart. Booking confirmation had stated that reception on Wed. was open 1800 hrs to 2130 hrs. We adjusted our arrival to conform . However doors fully locked no reply to bell . Another guest in similar position . Note on door gave a tel No. but nothing else.Luckily staff from a cafe adjoining made call and established keys were at another hotel another 400 m away . Arrived to find envelopes with keys etc and returned , hauling luggage all the way to enter Apart.Unacceptable. . They could have called , emailed or SMS had they had difficulties but nothing. Why they don't use the cafe within the building , which is staffed 0800 to 2100 for out of hours contact is inexplicable.Once in to Apart. struck by dismal furniture but so what! Worse is dismal decoration . The aparts. all come off central courtyards running to 3 floors so there is little natural light as there are no external windows. Why therefore decorate rooms in ochre and dark brown with dark tiled floors and pathetic lighting? It creates a gloomy atmosphere where at times you were hard pushed to read material .We had no desire to stay, let alone cook and eat in such a depressing surrounding .Then add the noise from courtyard , other rooms, other bathrooms etc .Also note that had you shared the Apart. with others the bedroom door cannot close and the only bathroom comes of the bedroom. OK for best friends during the night but otherwise!!Tried to move rooms to front with natural light windows but equally dismal furniture made this unattractive. The whole point of an apart. is you can live in it as opposed to just sleeping as per an hotel . This place does not make it even at the £30 per night price - other are competitive at this time of yearGreat shame because with some prof. attention this place is potentially great.

Review 30:The location , the exterior renovation. The staff at a personal level . Like almost all the Spaniards we meet they were polite, friendly and helpful. Library , Sun roof in summer ( we assume) , bathroom , size of apart. The unexpected maid service. BTW Puerto de S Maria is entertaining and interesting. Price but see what we did not like!.

Review 31:Furniture is worn out, especially in the kitchen. Dust under beds.

Review 32:Great location in the heart of El Puerto. 30 min by catamaran to Cadiz, 10 min by train to Jerez. Very helpful staff, we asked for a phone charger, they found it for us.

Review 33:Spot-on service and a neat apartment in a stunning historical building... we could not have asked for more! We worried about the later check-in time but they checked us in right when we got there and the gentleman working was friendly and helpful. Also the location is very central. Good kitchen facilities, amenities provided in the bathrooms, hairdryer, etc. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 34:Close to shops and transport and value for money. Felt safe and everything you need within walking distance. Undercover, attended car parking at a reasonable cost (4 Euro per day) close by.

Review 35:The area is a bit noisy in the evening

Review 36:The staff have been really great, they did everything,to make my stay just perfect. Thanks for excellent taking care of me!

Review 37:The property description does not say that it is in a pedestrianised zone which made dropping off luggage very difficult. While parking was only 5 minutes walk away it was difficult to access due to one way system and pedestrianisation. Details of parking should be included. in the property description. Best to park first and then go to apartment!

Review 38:Wonderfully restored palacio right in the centre of town.

Review 39:We had a bit of difficulty finding the address to start with. I had difficulty getting a WiFi connection until one of the receptionists helped me out and pointed out a computer room for use of guests, right at the end of our stay. This information had not been given to us. There were no fire precautions in the room and the safe didn't work. The television did not get CNN or BBC world.

Review 40:We had a spacious apartment even with a washing machine. The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was clean and very central. Next door is a very good cafe-restaurant, El Bocoy, with good coffee and good tapas.

Review 41:Interesting old restored building. Very pleasant helpful staff. Apartment was a little basic but everything we needed was there and it was very clean. Our apartment faced onto a courtyard and so was absolutely silent. Slept very well!

Review 42:The problem is in poor managemen of the hotel. In the two days that we were here: - dead cockroaches in the lamp of the bathroom - two lamps did not work - safe was closed and could not be openend - bathroom door closed unexpectedly and could only be openened by staff - staff did not understand English - batteries of TV had to be changed - motor of fridge made too much noise All simple things that could be prevented by a better quality control.

Review 43:Location is great, the riad like building has been renovated in 2000 and looks really nice. The facilities in the rooms are ok.

Review 44:all facilities, room size and location first class.

Review 45:Neighbours were loud till late at night.

Review 46:Clean and classy place

Review 47:Friendly staff, hostal with character and right in centre of El Puerto

Review 48:Very close to centre of town. Comfortable apartment in a building with an interesting history. Lovely sunroof for sitting/ sunbathing.

Review 49:Fantastic location in a lovely city. Helpful staff. Lovely old house.

Review 50:Booked a two bedroom apartment but when arrived we were told they only had a one bedroom with a sofa bed.

Review 51:Staff and location

Review 52:Old town location.

Review 53:Bedroom felt a bit damp/cold, the lounge had a tiny old TV

Review 54:Beautiful building, helpful staff

Review 55:Great place, right in centre near to all bars and restaurants and shops. Beuatiful historic building, lovely patios. Excellent value for money.

Review 56:Dificult to find in old town. Parking ok for 4 euro/day.

Review 57:Very nice place location aspect of the building. Posible trip to Cadiz by ferry.

Review 58:Room to Street too noisy all day (Cafés, people, garbage collectors, street cleaners).

Review 59:Close distance to supermarket, bakery, fruit market, ...

Review 60:rooms a little tired bed not great (ok)

Review 61:room size, location, style of property (atmospheric), mattress protector

Review 62:The toilet was smelling toasted bread in the morning from the cafe downstairs. The room had a smell itself, but it was clean.

Review 63:The location of the reception is different as the appartments and we needed help to find both.

Review 64:Spacious room

Review 65:Very basic flat.

Review 66:Location.staff.

Review 67:The beds were slightly uncomfortable

Review 68:The staff were lovely and extremely helpful, the location is fantastic

Review 69:Location in the center, at the marketplace, excellent value for money, definitely worth staying longer than one night

Review 70:Facilities were very basic. For example there was just one teaspoon, no kettle and no bowls (for cereal). I realize this may not be a big issue in Spain but not all visitors are Spanish. The biggest problem though was the noise created by an late night party by other guests within the building. Several other guests complained but staff just apologized and shrugged it off.

Review 71:The location is very good. The building is very attractive

Review 72:The guy at the recepion is fantastic! Very friendly and helpful. The city is fantastic, no tourists, just spanish people, little shops, cafes, bars and market. We love Puerto de Santa Maria! We had an apartament for 4 people. It was very nice, big, nice, clean bathroom and kitchen with everything that you will need, if sth isn't there - let know the guy at the recepion :)

Review 73:Needs modernising & decorating. This place could be fabulous. The Wi-Fi is ok but not great. In all this place has a fabulous opportunity to be excellent, but misses the mark.

Review 74:Excellent location, good café/bar.

Review 75:Parking can be a bit complicated in pedestrian district, but fully worthwhile.

Review 76:Great historical building in the middle of town. Plenty of activity at night and in the morning. Only a 15-minute ferry ride from Cadiz, clearly the best option for that visit.

Review 77:It would have been nice if the apartment had a kettle.

Review 78:This was our second stay at this hotel in the centre of town. Excellent location, lots of bars, restaurants and sites in the area. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 79:It is not possible to drive by car (i.e. you should leave car in parking several blocks away). Very thin walls, in case you do not have ear plugs you have to live the same life as your neighbours:) windows overlloking internal yard/staircases - very noisy. Town in small and do not worth more than a half day.

Review 80:Very nice old historical building in the center of the city. Nicely decorated, spacious, comfortable rooms, elevator.

Review 81:The kitchen sink was semi-stuck.

Review 82:Atmosphere of living in such an authentic building, like being in an ancient castle. Our 2-bedroom apartment was well-furnished and quite roomy for the four of us. The balcony in the living room facing a narrow and lively market street was amazing.

Review 83:Our room stank of cigarette smoke, was a non smoking room The rooms are very dark Located in a pedestrian only area

Review 84:Close to many shops and restaurants Nice outside appearance Solarium was great

Review 85:Not enough kitchen basic utensils, bidet in bath room superfluous andshower in bath tub dangerous...slippery when soaping oneself and takesup valuable space. People smoking in entrance hall, smoke goes up andenters apartment via open windows. No windows open on outside apart 2csecond floor.people talking at reception sound travels up to rooms ifwindows open...

Review 86:Location in the village was tops, parking although euro 11 a night wastops and only 50 metres from front door. Restaurant very good el bocoyhowever only one menu everyday for whole week!!!

Review 87:On arriving in the town and using our Sat Nav it took us 2 hours to getto the hotel!!! Every road we were directed onto was either a one wayopposed to us, blocked, or non existent. We finally stopped and walkedwith our cases while I parked in an underground car park some distanceaway. On arriving at the hotel I was told I could have a discount formy7 parking, --- but not the one I parked in!! Not a good experience!

Review 88:A very historic hotel, beautifully appointed inside.

Review 89:Some rain came in during a storm and the check-in hours end at 10 or 11depending on the day. The hotel is on a pedastrian only street and thuswas hard for the gps to find. If we arrived after the end of check in,check in was at another hotel, but no directions or address were postedfor this other hotel.

Review 90:Hotel was very comfortable and had a kitchenette. Chocolcates were inthe room when we arrived.

Review 91:If I had wanted to cook, a few more small cooking knves for food preparation would have been useful. As we were visiting our Grandaughter we spent all mealitimes in tapas bars so it did not matter.

Review 92:This was our first visit to mainland Spain. We loved the old building and it's courtyards, layout, apartment furnishings and location. We had no complaints, it was central and so much to see and do.

Review 93:The restoration of this elegant Andalucian home was superb. The staffis so helpful and friendly and do everything they can to accomadateyou. The rooms are typical of a Spanish home, the atmosphere islovely. If you like to experience the culture of old Spain, this isthe place for you!

Review 94:Paied parking....but not so big problem for us..

Review 95:I like everything about this hotel...not far from a little bit moreexpensive Cadiz, if you have car, no problem...parking not far fromhotel...beautiful hotel, great stuff and facilities. I reccommende!

Review 96:Furnishings in the room a bit dated and my bed in room 2c creaked at the slightest movement.

Review 97:Really pretty character building and the staff were very helpful. Rooms were a good size and very clean. We were given a free voucher for a glass of sherry in the bar next door which was a nice touch.

Review 98:great difficulty in finding the hotel by car because of very narrow streets with a one-way system. best to navigate to nearby underground car park and walk round corner (70 metres) to Hotel. Essential to know the carpark location

Review 99:location - at centre of things and in a pedestrian zone Quiet - no noise at night all daily shopping needs within 80 metres Perfect for a visit to Cadiz

Review 100:Difficult to find and difficult to park The kitchen in our apartment was very basic no toaster no corkscrew and no tin opener The micro wave must be changed as it is dangerous No international channels on T V

Review 101:Conveniently situated in town centre The entrance hall is very impressive the flat was disappointing

Review 102:Friendly , homely , quiet and in the centre of the city.

Review 103:Wifi wasn't good!

Review 104:Very nice for the place...

Review 105:Very friendly service. Very high quality for the price. I used to come back. I would recommend. A nice little town.

Review 106:really nice hotel in the center of the city.

Review 107:all was perfect

Review 108:every thing

Review 109:All! The reconstructed building, the spacious flat, the surrunding, the terrace above the building
