Reviews for La Finca Mercedes
Review 1:Our room looked out over the olive groves, the view was fabulous. Mercedes and Jose Ramon were really wonderful hosts. We enjoyed terrific walks in the mountains through spectacular landscape.
Review 2:The view from the room we had was terrific and the staff were good. We had a pleasant meal on the resurant balcolny with the view. The old castle is worth the climb upto it
Review 3:Nothing!!
Review 4:Welcome, comfort, food, pool, views, staff, food, local area, views, sunsets, lovely staff, Mercedes -amazing lady! Did I mention the great food and views!!
Review 5:For walking in Cazorla we had to drive down (and then back) on some tortuous mountain roads.
Review 6:Mercedes is a free spirit - and brightens up everyone she talks to. We were disappointed on our 2nd evening that Mercedes was away in Cordoba. The grandmother is a character also.
Review 7:The room was a bit dirty when we arrived--one poorly washed glass; an empty candy-bar wrapper left on the seat of the toilet. Nothing terrible, but off-putting nonetheless. There's some noise: mostly from the corridor, when people come in late at night. (Definitely ask for a room at the back of the hotel, so that you're off the road.) But the biggest problem was a ruinous encounter with the AC, entirely the fault of the hotel. We kept the AC on during our first night, and it was great white noise as well as keeping the temp perfect. Naturally, we turned it off all day when we weren't in the room. On the second night, we turned it on again, but it clicked off rather loudly at about midnight--waking us both up. Someone on the hotel staff had come into our room that day and programmed it to go off. (Mercedes confirmed this the next morning when we complained, and after she deprogrammed it, it worked fine again.) But when it went off that night, I couldn't figure out how to reset it, try as I might. The room got too hot, so we opened the door to our small terrace. But noise from barking dogs and nocturnal animals of some kind kept us up, so after a while we closed the door again and broiled. I got 3 hours sleep that night. Worse, opening the door apparently let in the bugs, and the next morning we were covered with bites (this definitely happened during the night, because we were bitten in spots bugs usually don't get to through clothing, and of course we'd kicked the sheets off). So, very thoughtless hotel policy meant to save a few bucks on the AC wrecked what was otherwise a great experience. I'd highly recommend that you master the remote on the AC when you arrive. You might also want to cover up on the terrace in the evenings if it's a time of year when the bugs are out--they're nasty.
Review 8:This is an excellent hotel in many respects (although it has some problems), especially if you intend to use the Parque Natural. The location is great. You have to drive up and over the first range of mountains to get into the center of the Parque (about a half-hour drive), but 1) it's a beautiful drive; and 2) many visitors wouldn't want to locate in the park itself anyway (say, in Arroyo Frio). Development in the park is taudry, and many hotels are plopped right on top of one another. A lot are for package tour groups. If you like to hang with noisy crowds, fine, but if you want to roost in a serene location within striking distance of the Parque, Finca Mercedes is perfect. It's outside of Cazorla, too (which is congested, and difficult to drive through or to find parking), and off by itself on the road to the parque. Views are great. Mercedes is wonderful and very helpful. I especially appreciated her patience with my halting Spanish. In general, the staff was warm and friendly, and the atmosphere (including the tone set by other guests) is relaxed and casually sociable. Breakfasts are simple but excellent, and the restaurant food was surprisingly good. It's rustic fare, but my pork sirloin and my wife's lamb cutlets were very fresh and cooked to perfection. The pool is beautiful--very refreshing after a hike. We loved our peaceful, comfortable mornings and evenings at the hotel--and the convenience of jumping off from there to hike in the parque all day. Don't miss the Rio Borosa trail! The 1.7 kilometre circle around "The Narrows" is also fantastic.
Review 9:Mercedes, the owner is one of the friendliest, most full of life and generous people you will ever meet. I would go there just to stay in her place!
Review 10:Great welcome and very accommodating allowing us to park our motorcycle in their private drive.

Review 22:The friendliness, the pool, the food
Review 23:Could not find anything to complain about.
Review 24:Everyone was very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Room was large and comfortable with a superb view.
Review 25:Friendly staff and decent room with a lovely view. Really good restaurant. The location near Cazorla is perfect if you have a car as it's easy to find and to park.
Review 26:Breakfast wasn't available until 9am which is a little late in a hiking area that gets pretty hot.
Review 27:The hotel has a wonderful terrace with great views over the olive groves. Stunning at sunset. The upper rooms have the same great views. Mercedes is an outstanding host; warm and welcoming. We ate there both nights and the food was good and very reasonably priced. For us it was a welcome break after the huge crowds of Granada... a much more genuine Spanish experience well off the tourist trail.
Review 28:Waitress that served us the first night shouldn't be in Hospitality. Mercedes was great, despite us not speaking any Spanish. I would have loved to have conversed as such a warm, hospitable woman
Review 29:Location and view. Price exceptional. Great food.
Review 30:At the time we visited, the room was cold even after the heating was turned on at our request. The bathroom was small and sparsely fitted with very little space to put/hang things.
Review 31:The views from the balcony were stunning. The food in the restaurant was very good
Review 32:If the sister of the owner resents being in the hotel, then maybe she should let the staff get along and do the job of serving breakfast with a smile, instead of a scowl.
Review 33:Great staff, large rooms, excellent buffet breakfast, pool and children s play area.
Review 34:Absolutely nothing.
Review 35:Just about the most welcoming hotel we have stayed at. A lovely room with the most wonderful view - anything similar in Provence would cost a fortune. Excellent food served in the dining-room or on the terrace (similar view), as you prefer and at excellent prices. Add a charming hostess and a fine location results in a stay that would be hard to better.
Review 36:Refreshing dip in pool then able to sit in the sun on the garden terrace. Meals excellent and bubbly host. Fabulous sunset from the restaurant terrace.
Review 37:Nothing - everything was fine
Review 38:The staff were very friendly, our room was spacious and had a balcony overlooking the valley with a nice view. The food was good.
Review 39:Not all facilities mentioned were available immediately, E.G.toiletries,( available second day), no hairdryer. No cereal forbreakfast, only tostado with tea or coffee, orange juice is extra, belowour expectations for a continental breakfast.
Review 40:Easy access, on main road, room was basic but comfortable. Staff veryfriendly and helpful, panoramic view over Olive groves.
Review 41:nothing not to like.
Review 42:hospitality and Mercedes enthusiasm for the job and guests. Food and service.
