Reviews for Hotel Donosti
Review 1:We had a wonderful reception, marcia went through everything about the city, best spots to eat, shop, walk. If your on a tight budget for accomodation this is a great spot, as you can blow all your money on food at restaurant Arzak (three star Michelin restaurant, 17th in the world this year, only a quick 150m from the hotel). The hotel is quiet, comfy, and super easy to jump on bus 13 (1.30€) to drop you right in the heart of San Sebastián.
Review 2:Shower was difficult to work out, but staff member came straight away and showed us how to use it, so not a real problem.
Review 3:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Took the time to show us where to go and tell us about things to see, very good recommendations. Room was well equipped and clean, nicely decorated.
Review 4:Being a fairly old, converted house it's quite noisy - whenever anyone arrives, leaves or moves around you hear them. It was expensive compared to the other hotels we stayed in but San Sebastian is a rather expensive city. The parking for motorcycles is right by the entrance and most of the parking area is stones, not hard paving.
Review 5:Helpful, informative staff. Free coffee (in the morning), juice and water in the room. Easy 10 minute bus ride to the city centre. And we really liked the city.
Review 6:One way streets hard to navigate when finding the hotel.
Review 7:Very quiet and a bus trip from the city centre. Good if you have a car. Free parking. Lovely staff.
Review 8:No airconditioning, we did have a device in the room to ensure cooling, but it did not work well really
Review 9:Cosy looking hotel and room Excellent staff Well located for travelers by car and free parking Nearby bus stop to take you to downtown
Review 10:Food is expensive and not great, you are better off walking 5 minutes to a near by local restaurant
Review 11:The view from the terrace was magnificent. Th e place is off the tourist path but take a bus and in 10 minutes you are at the center.
Review 12:We got a room UNDER THE STAIRCASE, on the ground-floor. Got to hotel almost at midnight, after 1200 km driving, exhausted, so didn't paid so much attention - just hoped to sleep long enough. Hahaha! Steps on old staircase at 8 a.m. sounded like hammering our brains. Shelv in bathroom fell off at once, no kidding.
Review 13:Quite stylish mini-hotel, but needs to be improved definitely
Review 14:I know it was peak season but this was just way too expensive for what was offered. The furnishings in the room are extremely cheap and need to be upgraded, all the laminate is peeling off etc etc. the garden area, whilst quite nice is really overrun with weeds. The whole place needs a renovation in particular given the price being charged. Next time we San Sebastián I will avoid July and also plan on booking a little earlier to get something closer in to town and more well maintained.
Review 15:We organized our trip to San Sebastián about a month before we went and being August everything was booked up. I was hesitant to book this hotel as it had mixed reviews but it had a family room and was available so I gave it a go. The staff couldn't be nicer. They helped us with everything we needed and were extremely friendly. The beds were comfortable and the room and bathroom were clean. We also found the hotel to be very quiet, being an old house I guess it was well constructed.
Review 16:The room, tiny and w no place for language, was not clean (hair and dust all over). Even w close windows we could hear the highway traffic.
Review 17:Staff was friendly, even if they did not fix the night lamps issues in the room. Beds comfortable enough considering the old furniture
Review 18:Gabriel and Maria (the evening receptionist) were really helpful and friendly with personal attention. Although a bit of a walk into town, the bus service is excellent-just make sure you remember to note where to get off on the way back.. The hotel itself is characterful and the outside space lovely.
Review 19:to expensive, no cupboard in the room- just a small niche, no place to put the clothes, very small room for three people, moving was not easy
Review 20:hotel nearby to busstop, very nice garden, quiet quarter, no breakfast included, but coffee, tea, sweats, water and juice free, very friendly staff, modern renovated bathrooom
Review 21:Very noisy room under the wooden stairs near the bar Very small bed A bit dated Very expensive for what is essentially a B&B not a hotel- worth €80/night max in my opinion
Review 22:Excellent hydro massage shower Super friendly staff- so helpful and kind Great safe parking, only 10mins to town by bus Nice terrace
Review 23:Perfect location, bus stop around the corner, friendly people. San Sebastián is a Nice city to visit. We enjoyed the friday night in the old city and had an excellent diner at Rampa.
Review 24:Very friendly and helpful staff. Helped us negotiate the local public bus system. Room and hotel was very clean. The bed very comfortable and the shower was great.
Review 25:Nothing.
Review 26:Loved the free parking. Great staff. The location means you will it be kept awake by noise from pubs etc. Very near Arzak the world famous restaurant.
Review 27:It might have been that the bedspread was old but it made the bed not as nice as it could have done. Had a bit of a confusion there on what they offer on booking.com in terms of laundry. Just to clear that up, they send it away for €20. The main owner wasn't there for the majority of the time so I think this impacted the smooth running of the place... To top off our stay we were unlucky enough to have our car window smashed in the hotel car park. The manager tried to make things better and also gave us our nights stay free. It maybe just wasn't a great experience for us as I see others have given it a high rating...
Review 28:So the location of this place is good, just outside the city but a bus every 6mins straight in that took 5mins. They had also tried with the room plus particularly good shower and a few nice touches in the room like free juice. The reception is also rather quirky. Cool cafe opposite the bus station too.
Review 29:The exterior of the building is in need of attention - paint peeling off the walls, weeds, broken flowerpots etc. The interior is smelly, mouldy and dirty. the smell hits you the minute you walk in the door. Our room was small and dark and there was mould growing on the walls beside the windows. There was no wardrobe in the room, just a hanging rain on wheels. There was a small chest of drawers with 1 broken drawer that wouldnt open. The shelf in the bathroom fell down when i put a tube of toothpaste on it. The towels were frayed and had holes in them. The carpet on the stairs was filthy and didnt look like it had been hoovered in a long time. There were a lot of cobwebs in the room and spiders.
Review 30:Unfortunately there wasn't much to like
Review 31:A charming little one star hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, light, comfortable and quiet room. The location was not ideal being about 20 minute bus trip to the centre, but on the upside it was in a quiet and leafy residential area with 2 very frequent bus services only a couple of minutes walk. Would recommend for a short stay.
Review 32:First young man was not very good at his job Bar closing at 21.00 not advised on website Could not serve a hlass of red wine
Review 33:Decor was thoughtfully done with nice finishing touches. Two of the three staff we met spoke English -owner/manager really well. Bed was super comfortable High standard bathroom
Review 34:At the end is a beutiful house changed to an hotel, so when other guest arrived at night or early in the morning there were TOO MUCH NOICE....consider telling the client to be carefull quiet and also the STAFF!!!!
Review 35:One of the rooms was very spacious, the location, free parking, cozy ooms, some with too much....the other one ('cause they made me change) was bigger and better
Review 36:Nada!
Review 37:This hotel is the best we have used in Europe. It offers value for moneywith comfortable stylish rooms in a great location. Our stay was madeeven more special thanks to some fantasticly helpful staff. Many thanksfor all your help Ivan. Safe off street parking is a big plus. Thecombonation of beatiful San Sebaastion and this hotel made it very hardto leave. Highly recommended.
Review 38:The rooms are modern and contain not much more than a bed and acupboard. They are not spacious either, so be aware if you have muchluggage. They don’t have a chair or desk either. There is hardly any sound insulation between the rooms, so you can literally hear what the neighbours are saying (or are doing). DO NOT accept the room next to the front door or on this entry floor. You can hear every guest arriving and leaving, and the receptionist is having an animated conversation with them (even during late or early hours) which is very disturbing. There’s only a portable fan in the room and opening windows is not an option because of the noise of coming/leaving (late) guests and the traffic outside because the main road to San Sebastián is just down the property. The receptionist’s command of the English language is very limited (although it is said that the Spanish learn English at school for many years).
Review 39:The hotel is a classic renovated house with a stylish entree.Free on-site parking.
Review 40:The location is a 10-minute bus ride from town. The staff don't speak much English, so make sure to pack your Spanish phrase-book!
Review 41:We stayed in a funky purple room with love-heart pillows. The place is very clean and comfortable, and the staff are helpful. They do sweet things like leave bottles of water in your room and turn your lights on when you go out. We loved this place!
Review 42:The table and chairs on the balcony need renewing.
Review 43:The welcome was genuine. There has been much care in design and facilities. For a city where parking is difficult free parking was appreciated. Free coffee, tea and little cakes for breakfast was appreciated too. San Sebastian being an expensive town, it is not surprising that the daily rate appear somewhat high.
Review 44:Noise of the elephant in garden, Hungarian violinplayer playing at 4 am.
Review 45:Very nice staff, elephant in garden, cakes for breakfast, Hungarian violin player, the "I once had a romantic affair with a matador" headquarters.
Review 46:Friendly and helpful host. Ample off-street parking. Short walk to bus route to get into town. Great shower. Clean and comfortable with great decor. Free coffee and croissants any time, including breakfast was a bonus.Sat-nav took us to the door, which could have been difficult without it.
Review 47:Easy access to public transport. Big room, with easy access, no stairs to our room which was a welcome change. Very helpful staff who provided excellent recommendations to places of interest and restaurants
Review 48:Staff were cold and unhelpful. 'Free pastries' at breakfast of very poor standard. Asked for a small bit of butter and was told 'it's not free - we charge'. This was at €130+ per night per couple!! Terrace needed a good weed and clean.
Review 49:Our first visit - when staff were a delight. A decent breakfast included and the terrace was 'cared for'.
Review 50:Nothing really all was good
Review 51:The hotel was very nice with very nice staff. ok location a bit of a walk to the seafront and town Great town with lots of very nice tapas bars.
Review 52:Location exceptional for Arzac Restaurant. One minute walk. Free parking a major bonus with very quick bus ride into the centre. Delightful staff. Comfortable bed Excellent Wifi.
Review 53:A little far from town even though very close to a public bus stop; no curtain on the bathroom window
Review 54:Size of the room; free coffee and pastries for breakfast; people at the front desk were helpful providing maps and recommendations
Review 55:No airconditioner, although a small portable air-conditioner did an ok job. Beds not so comfortable, quite far from the center, but easily reachable by bus (and walking is not too bad either).
Review 56:The price is good relative to San Sebastian. Room is big and nice, with a strange hi-tech shower. Complementary drinks came with the room.
Review 57:I think that for the price a full breakfast should be included. I also don't agree with the policy of paying the full amount on arrival.
Review 58:The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean and well-appointed but a bit cramped for three people. The buses to the centre left from just around the corner. Very quiet.
Review 59:Our room smelled like mildew. When I spoke to the gentleman at the desk about this, he didn't seem to appreciate that I had a criticism and brushed me off. I imagine that our room may have had a dampness problem because we were on the lower level and the room was partially below ground level. Nonetheless, it is an issue the management should look into dealing with.
Review 60:The person who greeted us on arrival was very helpful, and gave us good information about transportation and sites to see. We were very close to a bus line that took us right into the city.
Review 61:We happened to arrive on a festival weekend and the room price of the second day was double the one of the first
Review 62:Nice interior design, convenient location, very helpful stuff, free wi-fi
Review 63:As sleeping with windows open, noisy due to (noisy...) guests coming back at night
Review 64:Nice breakfast on terrace, simple but more than enough. Car park on site 10 min drive from town center
Review 65:We just felt that it was over priced. The room was not really a family room and the furniture was very basic.
Review 66:The hotel was charming in design in the communal area and very peaceful. The bus ride to town was very easy.
Review 67:Nothing
Review 68:Boutique type hotel. Very friendly, clean and comfortable. Excellent location for a bus ride to town centre which was easy. Lovely patio to enjoy a free coffee and bun for breakfast. Lovely place
Review 69:Nada

Review 73:Nothing!
Review 74:Very helpful staff when we had trouble with our car.
Review 75:The generosity, patience and help of the owner and Maria were amazing. They did everything to make our stay special and memorable.
Review 76:The bed is simply too small for to (north) European guests. The room in the basement is too humid.
Review 77:The bathroom
Review 78:Wifi was very poor in the upper rooms, this is not a real problem though!
Review 79:Staff were incredible, made our trip even more enjoyable
Review 80:Off ramp and way to hotel confused my poor little gps so I think it cried!
Review 81:Town was amazing
Review 82:Bit complicated, to find the hotel.
Review 83:Hard to find, many one way side streets to negotiate

Review 88:Everything, Coffee and Tea available any time and some cakes at breakfast There was parking The staff were very helpful

Review 90:Windows in room could not be left open safely while sleeping.
Review 91:Location. Cost. Quietness.
Review 92:Rather far out of town
Review 93:Terrace and breakfast included
Review 94:Expensive, limited breakfast not included in price.
Review 95:quality of rooms, parking, price, cleanliness, good bed
Review 96:good staff comfortable room easy access to city by bus
Review 97:Restaurant close 11 and drinks are really expensive (8 E) while there is nothing else around.
Review 98:Boutique hotel located not far from city center.
Review 99:Slightly difficult to find using sat-nav
Review 100:On site easy to use free parking Easy to get to the old quarter Peaceful at night
Review 101:good distance away from the town centre and beach, bus journey required too far to walk.
Review 102:nothing
Review 103:for the price it was ok

Review 106:The host was very helpful. The complimentary 24 hour tea and coffee is a great idea as was the continental breakfast.
Review 107:poor wifi reception very expensive for room only 4 beds crammed into a room for 2

Review 109:very friendly atmosphere and a good / quiet location within bus-range to town. free parking.
Review 110:Location; bed was saggy; no A/C; small room; just not comfortable
Review 111:Location right next to Arzak!! Clean, comfortable room. Perfect stay
Review 112:Easy access to our bedroom downstairs. Plenty of parking. Room very well equipped. Staff extremely helpful & explained about bus routes into town. Free light breakfast.
Review 113:to get to the the city you need to take 10 minutes walk and 20 minutes bus ride
Review 114:very nice hotel - enjoyed talking to the staff and sitting at the terrace
Review 115:A bar fridge in the room would be good & tea & coffee making facilities, otherwise all good & I would definitely recommend this accommodation to others....
Review 116:The staff were very friendly and helpful and even let us put some food in their fridge until we departed. The accommodation was very nice, clean & comfortable & well worth the price. The small hotel bar was opened till 11:00pm & staff were very accommodating.
Review 117:Nothing really to dislike about this hotel perhaps the only criticism would be that the 'inclusive breakfast' could be a bit more extensive other than just a few pastries. Having said that, other options are available for purchase.
Review 118:Extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating staff. Nicely decorated throughout boutique hotel. Situated out of the main town but easily accessible using the frequent public transport service or within 1/2 hr walking. Free parking! Would recommend this hotel.
Review 119:hôtel next to the world famous restaurant Arzac hôtel with easy and free parking nice welcome staff willing to help for visits recommandations, transportation advice...
Review 120:There was nothing that I didn't like
Review 121:The staff was exceptionally helpful, the hotel was quiet, nicely decorated, perfectly located, and provided parking.
Review 122:It's cost is too much, compared to amenities. There is no fan no AC in the room.
Review 123:The location is not in the mid of city but it's not far as well, so we can reach city easily and stay in a quite place
Review 124:we were on the ground floor just off reception and could hear everyone coming and going. Presumably they could hear us too, so not very private.
Review 125:The staff were great and informative. The room was clean an comfortable and there was safe secure parking. It was only a short distance from the centre of Donasti San Sebastian, so great location.
Review 126:Need a better map and instructions to get there. Not easy to find.
Review 127:It was small and intimate and just far enough away from the city center to be accessible by car which can be parked and then use public transit.
